Prancingazel
I have begun work on a Fire Emblem 7 hack which I have currently finished about three chapters of. It takes place in the world of Feer^Han, in which there are two large islands to the north and south, and an untamed coast divided from the rest of the mysterious continent through desert and ice. In the middle of these three places is the patrons seat, an island city state which was the center of magic and learning during a mysterious magical cataclysm that took place five hundred years ago. It had a long history of civil war and violence, but eventually, forty years ago it went to the towns of the three islands on the brink of destruction and helped them survive. However, fifteen years ago political turmoil within their city forced the majority of them to withdraw their aid. Now, the daughter of the acting leader of the patrons is in the city of Mitorial, the largest city of the northern continent. Her faction is attempting to set up a secondary capital in case the civil war in the patrons seat goes the wrong way, and beleive that Mitorial is the place. However, signs lead her to beleive that the engimatic enemies, the cultists, of a long past civil war in the cultists seat may be trying to upset this attempt. In attempt to fix it and mantain political autonomy, she sends mercenaries to break out Inras, a man exiled for moral deviance in the theocracy Mitorial is. Inras embarks on an oddesy throughout the divided world, both hunting and being hunted by an engimatic enemy trying to destroy the frail political balance of this divided, mistrusting world. I will release a demo patch as soon as I have a few chapters that I'm happy with. I'm new to hacking, so I would be obliged if anyone would be willing to help me with anything, and I will recognize any help in my game.
Parrhesia
I have begun work on a Fire Emblem 7 hack which I have currently finished about three chapters of. ... Any screens? Or proof? Anything? It takes place in the world of Feer^Han I didn't think FE HAD ^s. I will release a demo patch as soon as I have a few chapters that I'm happy with. I'm new to hacking, so I would be obliged if anyone would be willing to help me with anything, and I will recognize any help in my game. Look, you should present what you've done so far to show us what we're actually contributing to. Almost all hacks that don't start with proof of work DIE INSTANTLY because NOBODY CARES. It's harsh, but damn is it true.
Prancingazel
Don't worry about the harshness, I understand. Thanks for telling me that the ^ symbol won't work, I'll have to find something else to take it's place. Although I agree that screenshots would tend to be a good idea, this is more of a plea for help than an advertisement, and I would feel a bit embarresed posting screenshots consisting entirely of existing sprites and portraits, although if you want me to post anyways I'd be happy if you asked. Celice
I didn't think FE HAD ^s. That doesn't mean they can't be added and used :/

Thor Odinson
Perhaps a simple apostrophe could take its place. It's pretty conventional to use them as well. ^... I've probably only seen in mathematical syntax.
CT075
You could, in theory, make the ^ symbol work with some kerjiggering with the graphics, but it's probably a lot more trouble than it's worth.
Celice
Can Feeditor handle "^"s? Unless the editor is stupidly close-minded, it should work based on what the game has for data, not for what the editor expects of the data.

The Blind Archer
^... I've probably only seen in mathematical syntax. Clearly this means the primary language in this project is Mathenese.
deranger
Clearly this means the primary language in this project is Mathenese. Well it is a ROM hack
Celice
Essentially what I was asking was can the ROM handle "^"s Do you understand how the text works in the game, and how its corresponding graphics work in the game? You can either edit an existing symbol that's never used or is otherwise worthless to become the '^' or add in the symbol entirely. It's not a very complex thing to do :)
Ryrumeli
Yup, he could just say replace a letter such as say "J" with a ^, and whenever he wrote "J" in FEditor the screen would show a "^". Since the text data in FE only matches the format our PCs use due to the simplistic fact they too used a ASCII table to define the value of each letter. Obviously I wouldn't recommend actually replacing "J", but there ought to be a spare letter you could use. I believe FE8 at least had letters like à , á, and other accented letters, which could be in turn replaced by a symbol like "^" with very little loss. And don't be ashamed of showing screenshots, regardless of the position in the evolution of your hack. :) We are all hackers, and/or we understand the difficulty that is hacking an FE rom, so be sure I am honest when I say that we will understand all the pain you went trough to learn and do what you did already. And you should be proud of it already. And having any issues, we will all be more than happy to either provide you help to the specifics of your doubts, or point you to a topic or tutorial we believe answers with a good depth your question at hand. So no need not to feel comfortable with showing something, this is pretty much like a medieval guild of craft, we are but friends linked due to a skill and interest in common. ;)
Prancingazel
I've decided to switch instead to making a hack called Ashes of the High Tower, which takes placer in the same fictional universe albeit seventy years before Seeds of Darkness, so I intend to return to the old one. Anwyays, I've decided so that you judge the game on it's merits alone and not how it looks instead of screenshots I will just release a demo patch of the prolouge of the game, which I am currently working on. Prancingazel
I have decided to suspend the hack until I have a better understanding of hacking as a whole.
zahlman
That doesn't mean they can't be added and used :/ It would be complicated, because the existing table used for Huffman symbol lookup doesn't necessarily have a symbol assigned for ^. I would just use ', honestly.
Celice
Are peeps still circumventing the Huffman? Granted I haven't paid attention to the more recent hacking in detail, but a couple years ago it was more fashionable to just bypass the compression altogether. Or something to that effect. I have decided to suspend the hack until I have a better understanding of hacking as a whole. There's three main parts to a hobby like this: 1) Understand any technical explanations so that you can begin to learn things you are unfamiliar with 2) Begin to play with the games so that you can gain a better, more reactive understanding of how editing a game and modifying existing code actually works. 3) Somewhere along the way, "click" certain tricks and methods of editing. This is usually a natural step once you've come to understand (on your end) how things work. You can begin applying theory to actual editing and get some interesting results. So I guess I'm trying to say waiting 'til you understand something better isn't exactly a less-preferred thing, but constantly playing around with games tends to make understanding the process a bit simpler and more fun through way of application and engagement :)
Rapier
Clearly this means the primary language in this project is Mathenese. Awesome, I ddn't know my languane was Mathenese because I use ^ outside of math. Except it isn't awesome, because I hate math. D: Well, not so much. Now seriously, it's always nice to introduce new things, and he's the first person in the world I saw using ^ in names instead of ' or -. I hope he manages to learn enough about ROMhacking to accomplish his hack.
CT075
*stuff that sounds butthurt* A) That was a joke, no need to get so defensive. B) It could mean that he wants the name to be a single integer/character value that represents the result of an XOR operation being performed on the character strings 'Feer' and 'Han'; that is the number 149 or the character '?' (which, in hindsight, is hilarious) C) Did I mention he was joking?
