The Fire Emblem Retrospective needs your help.

Recommended Posts

So recently, my friend ran into some computer troubles and lost a lot of footage for FE7 he needed for the retrospective. This is one of the reasons why it's taking so long for the next part. So I'm hear to ask for save files for the Japanese and English version of the game. There's no way I can help him with so many modes in a timely fashion even with cheats. He needs footage for Japanese version Hector Hard Mode and some Japanese Eliwood Normal Mode (just before fight with Nergal would be fine). For the English version, saves for the Hector Hard Mode and Eliwood Hard Mode. I guess for the English footage, he needs as many chapters as he can get for the sake of grabbing footage. It doesn't matter if you cheat like crazy or whatever, he just needs saves to play the chapter and grab whatever he needs. You will be credited for the contribution.

If you have saves, just post them here and list what chapters, version, and game mode its on so I can keep track of what else is needed.

This save has a Lyn Hard Mode Chapter 10 file, and a Hector Normal mode Suspended file from the begining of the dragon battle.

It's in English, appearantly characters' stats are maxed out and can reach an infinate level number. Don't attack the dragon with Matthew wielding an axe, it'll crash the game. I made this file a long time ago, so there could be other unexpected "surprises".

Will a save of the final chapter, during the battle preparations, work or does it have to be right before you're about to attack Nergal on the map?

BTW, battery saves are compatible between all versions, so if you use a English save state, then make a battery save, you can load this battery save when playing the Japanese version.

If you go ahead with this, it might be a good idea to do it BEFORE starting a chapter, so the game will load the chapter for the correct version (as you might know, in the English version, only one door opens per turn in the final chapter, whereas its 2 doors per 2 turns in the Japanese version).

Yeah saves at the beginning of the map during preparation and stuff will be fine.

And I didn't know the saves are compatible that way. What about the stats? Will they have the proper stats when loading between the different versions? It would definitely make it easier. Before, I was in charge of playing the Japanese version, but since he lost the footage, I'd have to restart and I don't have the time.

I think everything should function normally, so your characters should have the correct stats. I've swapped around battery saves all the time and haven't run into any issues (I'm too lazy to play FE7 in Japanese, so if I need to check something I just use an English save).

However, I get the feeling that if you swap saves when you're in the middle of a chapter, things could go wrong, so that's why I'd recommend doing it before starting (also be sure to deactivate the other version's codes, if you're using any).

Same here actually.

So anyways, I know the addresses to change the game modes mid chapter, will that work?

I'll go and see where the byte difference is between normal and hard mode as well.

0x202BC13

In the memory, that address contains the current mode of the game.

Lyn Mode = 0x01

Eliwood Mode = 0x02

Hector Mode = 0x03

So just go on memory viewer to change it. So pretty much, on the save screen change it so that the events loaded will be Hector's.

I also don't know if it'll affect events mid-chapter.

Also have him mention the Beta CGs

Edit: If you still need Chapter 19xx save, I have one and I attached it to the post. I had savestates so I don't remember whose save this was... I'm assuming Normal Mode.

It's Ninian's and Nils's backstory... and it's me. Give me a break.

Any particular chapters needed for the hard modes?

Or do just need a save with them unlocked?

Just shove in whatever you have. Mainly we still need to end chapters so if you can provide it for Eliwood and Hector hard mode, that would be great.

Oh yeah, something with all supports unlocked would also be appreciated. For this save, it doesn't matter what mode or anything. I guess he needs quick access to conversations.

Attached.

If the .sav file doesn't work, in VBA, go to "File", "Import", and "Gameshark Snapshot" and use the other file.

Also, did that address work for you for changing game modes? You should try it out on the save screen and see if the color changes on the save itself.

Unfortunately, neither of us knows how to hack. But might not be too hard with instructions.

So just go on memory viewer to change it. So pretty much, on the save screen change it so that the events loaded will be Hector's.

I also don't know if it'll affect events mid-chapter.

Here's a step by step on how to do it.

Find "Memory Viewer" on VBA.

(Note: You might have a different version than me, so it might just be directly under "Tools" for you)

For the purposes of showing the change, I'm gonna change the mode on a save screen. (Might also be a good idea when loading the chapter before, so that it loads the right chapter with the right events)

0x202BC13

In the memory, that address contains the current mode of the game.

Lyn Mode = 0x01

Eliwood Mode = 0x02

Hector Mode = 0x03

So type in 0202BC13 on the blank space next to the "Go!".

The values for it are above.

So it's currently in Hector Mode because it's "03" right now.

So if we leave it alone...

And just save.

Result as expected.

HOWEVER. Just go and click on the value and type "02" on your keyboard.

Viola!

BUT THAT'S NOT ALL!

Call right now and you get!

Here you go. It works for me, so hopefully, it works for you guys.

Also, it still says zero for the number of downloads for that save that I have the supports on.
