regitkrahs
perhaps someone can help me: I am trying to find cheat codes and passwords in roms. I cannot find complete lists of cheats for games so I thought that I would try to find the codes in roms. I am having trouble figuring out what to look for. Exempli causa: snes Brett Hull Hockey '95 accepts passwords but there is not a strategy guide for this game. I want to know if there are secret passwords and cheats. I have found that there is a 'Team Radical' cheat that enables a Radical Entertainment team. How do I find this code or cheat? plus, I found some blatantly obvious passwords but I cannot figure out what they do to alter the game. is there anyone here that is able to help me or steer me to a password/cheat-code hacking tutorial or forum? Thanks you for reading and have a good day...
shadowofchaos
You're talking about passwords built into the game to enable "cheats" that the creators put in themselves in the game. The usual things we have here are altering the game file itself (ROM hacking) or in game memory (RAM hacking, like Gameshark/Codebreaker codes). I don't think we'll be able to help you with built in passcodes. Best place to look would be Google, Gamefaqs, the wiki of the game you're playing, etc.
Celice
If they're unused, a few tips from here might help you. If you already have a password, but can't find the others, I have a tutorial with some examples on how to find the rest of the codes. Where did you find your passwords from? If you're sure they're valid, you could crack open your rom and search for the password themselves, and see if the unknown ones are stored near there.
