Bluedoom
So basically windows 7 hates me. IE7 is the only web browser that works on my comp, all the others act like I have no connection, all torrent downloaders have the same problem too. I also can't install some mmorpgs because my comp acts like I don't have a connection. Same problem with skype. The funniest thing is everything works in safe mode. I've been trying to mess with my firewall settings, but I've seen no progress. Oh, and my connection's wireles. So, halp? D:
eclipse
Ping something. See if it goes through. Also, try to update your compy (sheesh, use IE9 at least). Dunno if this is a virus or not, but it sure doesn't sound good!

Dunno if this is a virus or not, but it sure doesn't sound good! A few months ago someone else told me it could be a virus. Well, I did scan the comp, and I didn't find any viruses. So, eh nah. Guess not. Perhaps I need to do some updating though, and mess around with the firewall. *sigh*
eclipse
What'd you use to scan the compy with?
Bluedoom
...Norton. Why do I get a feeling that's the cause for my problem? >.<
eclipse
Norton isn't what I'd use to scan, IMO. . .try uninstalling it, and see if things work better.
TheEnd
First off, try disabling your firewall and see if your other programs start recognizing your connection. If they do, that means your firewall is blocking everything else, so you'll need to fiddle with its settings.
Bluedoom
http://windows7forum...s-programs.html http://www.sevenforu...n-internet.html Yeah, above two links sum u my problem. So far the only solution I've learnt is reinstalling windows. :| EDIT: Turned it off, not working. :|
eclipse
Okay, now uninstall it? And get the Norton Removal Tool to get rid of all other bits of it?
TheEnd
If your internet works just fine in safe mode, then that's because it isn't loading the configuration or software that's blocking your connection. Do you remember since when you've been having that problem?
eclipse
IIRC, Norton isn't booted in Safe Mode, so that's why I suggested getting rid of it entirely. There's other free AV programs out there, and I think they complain a lot less.

Do you remember since when you've been having that problem? dunno really. I got this comp about 2 years ago, and first tested firefox and skype on it about 4-5 months after its purchase. Also Norton uninstalled. Still not working.
Celice
How are you connecting to the internet. Do you have any secondary devices, like a wifi card or usb device? Are you directly connected through an ethernet cord? Did you get the computer new, or was Win7 installed over an older installation? If it wasn't brandnew, in all honesty, I'd just suggest you reformat and reinstall. If you don't have an extra harddrive or place to put your files, you could partition a separate section of your harddrive, move files there, then wipe the original partition and install fresh, then move your stuff back and partition the new half, then join them together again. Hrm.. I dont think I have any other secondary devices. I'm connected wireless to router. Does speedtest show anything else so I could find out? :S Nah the comp was new and win7 installed. eclipse
Hmmmm. . . 1. Right-click on Computer (alternately, find the thing in the Start menu). 2. Click Manage. 3. Click Event Logs. 4. Click System. Notice anything weird during those times that the programs were throwing errors?
Bluedoom
What exactly would be weird? I'm not good at finding out stuff.
eclipse
Errors besides "The following service failed to load at boot time: cdrom". You're looking for errors related to your network, whether they be DHCP errors, stuff regarding IP addresses, apps that use the Internet failing, etc.
Bluedoom
So I found a list of errors which have occured over the past year and... I think I found the culprit. :| Your computer was not assigned an address from the network (by the DHCP Server) for the Network Card with network address 0x701A0434320C. The following error occurred: 0x79. Your computer will continue to try and obtain an address on its own from the network address
eclipse
1. Find the error number (should be listed somewhere in the window). 2. Punch it in here. It's a start~!
