Rate the Unit, Day 29: Caesar

Recommended Posts

Dat Rules

- Ratings are assumed to be on Hard 2 Mode.

- Votes need some explanation regarding their gameplay performance to be counted. If somebody else said what you want to already, quote them explicitly.

+/- ≤1 point extra regarding personality/appearance is encouraged, but no more. If you exercise your bias privileges, please do so explicitly. Also, if your vote is already a 10/10 or greater than 9 and you give a full point of bias, The score may not exceed 10!

- Numerical votes out of 10, or something proportional to it. Make it easy to calculate for my sake.

- Each ranking phase ends from 2100 to 2200 EST. 13th May start the topic again but i am not sure. Do the math if you are in another timezone!

- I will insist you do not use the "Not X" reason on any character, where X is another unit. If you do, your vote will be thrown out.

- "Recruits X" or "takes you to X chapter" arguments are explicitly banned. C'mon, people, this shouldn't need to be a rule. That's not gameplay performance.

- Assume that the character in question is being recruited.

- Similar to the "Recruits X" rule, do not use "He Comes with a Free Ridersbane" as an argument.

- I withhold the privilege to tell you your rating is bogus and demand you revise it if it breaks any of the above. I will not throw out votes anonymously, you will be informed and given a chance to revise.

Kind of my first thoughts when Caesar joined the group.

His stats are pretty underwhelming as a Mercenary. 5 Str, 12 Spd... D Swords. Kind of looks like Ogma, except he had +1 Str and C Swords. His growth are kind of "eh" too. 40% Str and 45% Spd growth. No real reclass options give him an upper hand anywhere either. Fighter raises his Str by 1, but lowers his Spd by 3. Not to mention the wonk-out on durability (+4 HP but -2 Def), the Spd growth dropping (35%), and then -1 Mov. Hunter is even worse. I doubt he would do well as an Armor Knight (2 Spd... probably gets him doubled). Dark Mage sounds cool with his 30% Mag growth, but 0 Mag base is obviously atrocious (well 0 Mag base absolute). He also has a whopping 5 Spd after the reclass change. Mages are so silly with their Spd stat in these games.

Good luck using Caesar if you get him. I guess he could be worse, like in New Mystery of the Emblem where I gave him a 5, but not much really beats him in the "could be worse" department this time.

2.5/10.

Caesar and Radd go shopping and then:

1. Get benched for the rest of the game.

2. Suicide in the arena.

The best use of Caesar is to use him as an example as to why Caeda is supposed to be pronounced as "She-Da" instead of "Kay-Da".

Also, my eye twitches every time I see someone on GameFAQs recommend him as a Dark Mage.

BLEH. 2/10

His growths are good. . .for a class A unit. He'll usually end up okay, if you don't mind shoving a lot of effort into him. Caesar the Yellow Skittle is a Dark Mage, so bite me.

3.5/10 (bias point thrown in for having an awesome personality three years later)

Well, this isn't GameFAQs so no blood vessels bursting in my right eye. Biting fellow humans is not a particular hobby of mine.

Can you enlighten me to his personality change? I can't make heads or tails of Japanese, so my perspective is he went from no personality to a douchebag.

He's not bad as a hunter due do his solid growths all around, and Hunters innate high base strength

otherwise, mediocre at best

4 + 1 bias because when i used to arena abuse one time he had capped stregnth as a merc unpromoted

most ridiculous unit ever.

5/10

So my guess was right, he's a jerk.

Marth lies! Radd and Caesar were never my friends. They were just two unwanted children who forced themselves upon me, so I had them do some shopping errands.

Fucking best Salad ever.

But he's so average that just...argh.

Horace said it. 5/10

Caesar's response is the most rational mercenary one I've seen in the series. Mercenaries don't go hopping sides because the other side was once an ally; they fight to get paid, and they need to have some loyalty behind it, or no one will hire them. Caesar and Radd were not originally hired by Marth; thus, the hesitation to hop ship.

I don't recall anything in any FE game ever being like this, maybe I'm just being forgetfull...

From memory:

FE7 - Guy is "bribed" by Matthew.

FE8 - Joshua. Just. Joshua. Honorable mention to Marisa on Eirika's route.

FE10 - Aran does this. So do various people from PoR in the DB.

Heh. If Caesar was rational, he would be on his knees begging for forgiveness after we rout their boss in a single turn.
