Anacybele
Because not every Jagen is terrible like you say. Titania, Seth, and Frederick are all very good when work is put into them. I've also heard that some are even better in the harder difficulties. Edited March 27, 2013 by Anacybele
Excellen Browning
As a general rule, you don't need very great stats to be good in endgame, if you're used correctly. And if your stats allow you to beast everything but endgame, then you're a very good unit indeed.
Jedi
most jeigans are high tiers even though they have low growth rates and bad endgame stats, why? Because their use in the early game weighs them out, and as Ana said some are viable for the entire game. Marcus, Seth and Titania are such examples as is Oifaye. I've heard the same with Fredrick even though I haven't played fe13 yet.

Frederick DOES require more work than normal because of 1. his low base stats, and 2. reclassing and eventually gaining not much exp per battle, but he can still end up great because of his excellent growths. He has a guaranteed HP increase every level up and his strength and defense are like 60-65%. His speed growth is even good for his class. He's basically a fast tank. Baldrick
They tend to have less competition as well. You only get one Jeigan, and if you don't use him, you will suffer a loss of efficiency. Whereas most units you can bench and focus on others instead, and not really be affected.
Constable Reggie
Frederick will never double even semi-oftenly without a speed partner (and even then he won't be lategame), so I'm not sure how he's a fast tank.
Ema Skye
Endgame is not the entire game. Jeigans are best at the beginning of the game, where everyone else is at their worst, more or less.

Dude, his speed growth is 50%. That's more than decent for a Great Knight. And he doubles some things just fine for me without his wife, my Avatar by his side. And I'm talking about the recent chapters I've done too, not Risen challenges. But yeah, he's not going to double EVERYTHING, true.
MacLovin
Jeigans are always useful, unlike the Ests, and they're among your best units for a chunk of the game. Even fe6 Marcus can be turned into the purple taxicab in fe6 lategame. fe3 Arran can take the orbs for some boosts. the rest of them are ridiculous so there's no need to describe them. Anacybele
10 base speed. At 20/1. Reclassing can get him the levels he needs to make that redundant. I'm deciding to reclass him back to Cavalier or something myself once he hits level 20 so he's more on par with my other Great Knights later when I re-promote him. Even when I can grind to death against Risen? We'll see. It's time for me to get cracking and turn Frederick into the great knight that he can be. Pun intended. Constable Reggie
Grinding against Risen would work I suppose, but if we're doing that, we may as well not be using Fred at all (he takes too long to train) and just grind everyone else to be super powerhouses in a fourth of the time. Galenforcer
Jeigans are really useful to experts. They can really pull people out of the fire on the harder difficulties and end up pretty decent for the whole game. Newer games have recently been raising the stat bar for enemy units, making the Jeigan character more needed for good clearing. On the topic of Frederick, he's pretty good on some regard. He's pretty useable on Hard for the whole game, only not being able to double much but makes a good double partner. Lunatic... well, you need him to survive. Well, I plan for my Endgame team to be majorly composed of Great Knights and Bow Knights, one of which must be Freddy because I'm a Frederick fangirl, 'kay? Loki Laufeyson
Frederick will never double even semi-oftenly without a speed partner (and even then he won't be lategame), so I'm not sure how he's a fast tank. Speedwings happen a lot due to wandering Annas. So Froderick can be tweaked slightly. And really, his doubling isnt that much of an issue anyway because as long as he can take a hit, hes cool. However i noticed reclassing doesnt work well with this guy. D: Anyway, why are Jeigans thought of as awesome? Harder modes are kind to them and really mean to your other guys for a good portion of the game(s). Normal/easy modes, Jeigans are far from necessary other than utility. Hard modes say "hey Jeigan, help me clear this chapter without my guys dying." And they stay pretty good for most of the game. In the case of Seth and Titania, those guys have decent growths anyway. Plus a lot of peeps like these guys cuz they help keep turn counts low. Edited March 27, 2013 by Virion
unlimitedisme
Jeigans can be pretty useful. Just make sure they don't suck up exp. >_> availability is top priority for me especially trying to get through hard mode. I just can't make it through without the Jeigan/Oifaye. JSND Alter Dragon Boner
Give Silver Lance to Sheeda Send Jeigan to the Western side of the map and have him weaken all 4 of the pirates Now send in Cain and Abel, and Marth Watch as the Pirates suicide themselves on Marth Now, Marth solo the game with Hardin. Jagen for Top Tier plz Also last i checked the only Jeigan that is actually on higher tier are like.... Oifaye, Shanan, Dagda, Finn, Marcus, Seth, Titania, and Jagen himself. I don't know about the others, but Marcus is pretty much the only reason i can stand against HHM Cog
Dark Sage
Well Harken's pretty amazing in Cog w/Pure Water. Dem Hand Axes and bases.
JSND Alter Dragon Boner
There is also Pent, Prissy and Serra with Restore, which is pretty handy And speaking of Jeigans The Pope is like one of the best character in original and i thought he is considered a Magical Jeigan.... shadykid
the GBA games are full of WTF prepromotes seriously, between Percival, FE7 Marcus, Harken, Seth, Duessel, and others....dang they're good why are we talking about later prepromotes though, those aren't Jeigans
sunshineYON
Jeigans are not necessary, but required for higher difficulties, and that's what the tier lists are based on. I recently finished FE13 Lunatic, and I'm 90% sure you can't beat it if you don't use Frederick. They also help LTC runs a lot, as do most prepromotes. That said, they're pretty boring and lackluster if you don't play for turns. Boring because you don't get to promote them and watch them grow, which is one of the reasons i got into FE. It is so rewarding to see units like Nino turn from terribleness to soloing beasts.
MacLovin
If a unit can solo it's game or be the main powerhouse for the majority of the game then it's good. fe7 Marcus was what allows me to do HHM. And this happens-http://gyazo.com/88d841c65e4eedf2bc1189ed84e0183c
