Speed or supports; How important is it to finish chapters ASAP?

I've read a bit on this game, and several times now I've seen people mention how important it is to keep turn order to a minimum, to beat chapters fast as possible. Why is this? What's so important about winning fast?

I usually wait a LOT to build up supports, and since I hear supports are vital in this game for survival, beating the game fast seems a contradiction.IF anyone could clear this up, I would most appreciate it.

People just like to beat the game fast because they like to beat the game fast. The same reason people will speedrun Silent Hill 2 in 47 minutes or replay Mario levels until they perfect every single manoeuvre. It's just something that we do. Also, you get a get shiny S rank if you play the game right, which is always nice.

Supports are far from "vital" since even in hard mode enemies will become a pushover after the early game comes to a close, and that's where supports will start becoming effective. That being said, if you want supports and a low turn count, the trick is to move your characters throughout the chapter in a way that will both increase your support points and move at the fastest speed possible. For instance, you might move Lance, Alan and Roy or Rutger, Dieck and Clarine around in a little group so that they build supports.

Supports are far from necessary, but if you can get them in a short amount of turns/take the time to get them, they're generally pretty helpful.

It has basically no direct impact on gameplay, aside from some instances where reinforcing enemy units will arrive once a certain number of turns have passed in some chapters. [you may simply perceive that to mean free experience, though, so that might not even be a bad thing for your purposes. It makes for interesting player-driven competition and experimentation to shoot for the lowest possible turncount in a chapter, though.

If you just want to see all the conversation content you can get out of the game, feel free to lounge around in a chapter as long as you want, you won't usually be punished for it.

As far as I know, the only important reason you should endeavor to finish chapters fast (only certain chapters, mind you; not all) is because of the gaiden chapters that give you access to the Divine Weapons, which usually require you to finish a chapter within a certain amount of turns and keep certain people alive; not only are the weapons the best and most effective dragon slayers, if you do not have ALL of the Divine Weapons in your possession and intact (not broken) you will not be able to access the last few secret chapters in the game and the true final boss.

Otherwise, people do it for low turn count runs and avoiding annoying enemy reinforcement waves.

Well, beating the game fast takes less amount of your irl time.

In theory; in practice, LTCers take far longer to complete their LTC runs than any ordinary player would take to complete a normal run.

But it was worth it! Really, in the end, LTC is more about giving yourself a challenge than it is saving time. Efficiency, on the other hand, there's a case for...but a lot of peoples' efficient runs are like "Efficient EXCEPT FOR THESE TWO UNITS I'D GIVE ALL OF THE BIAS FOR" so take that as you will.

By this logic, not playing the game takes even less time.

Just play however you feel like, really.

Now if you're trying to fit in supports relative to the ingame ranks, FE6 is fairly lenient since it gives you roughly 20 turns per chapter to keep your A rank in Tactics (630 total). You'll mostly want those with a +2 or better for an A rank, but some +1 are worth considering like Rutger-Dieck.

Yah that's me. I never bothered with supports really in Sacred Stones, but if they came up while I was playing I'd do them. I'm pretty sure the only supports I actually ended up getting some level of were Eirika and Ephraim and Forde and Kyle.

Some supports are very fast making. Lilina and Roy need only be next to each other for a turn. Instant C. Alan and Lance only need 45 turns together to reach A rank. So, you can still do some supports going quickly.

Also, the game rewards you with a nice little bragging list for your rank at the end of the game. Tactics is turns taken.

Also, what TAS are you talking about?
