I decided to not let the woman out of my sight for a moment, which turned out to be the best solution. There's a lot of pretty dark quest in this game. Now I feel bad =/ Yeah, if you tell her to stay with you while you watch the security footage instead of letting her go take a shower, the parasite doesn't hatch and she survives.
