I dunno, I enjoyed Blazing Sword's story. And to a minor extent, the Path of Radiant and Radiant Dawn duology's story was enjoyable. Gameplay is what matters most for Fire Emblem, imo I dunno, I enjoyed Blazing Sword's story. And to a minor extent, the Path of Radiant and Radiant Dawn duology's story was enjoyable. All of Micaiah's arcs in those games could go suck a dick, though... For me, gameplay is all that matters I mean, I've played blazing sword over 50 times and skipped the story in all but one of them :V If the game has a good story, bonus points for it, if it doesn't, I don't care. However there's always the chance someone incompetent gets the throne, in which case there's seriously nothing anybody can do to stop a collapse. On the other hand, a monarch should also be responsible for educating his/her heir, since more often than not it's usually their own offspring. In this case it falls more on human responsibility than the system itself. A problem inherent in all systems, the human factor. So it's not just a monarchy problem.
