I was doing so well on my best run, but the Deathgoyle got a ONE PERCENT CRITICAL on Garcia (I have proof I can put on Youtube if I felt like it). I will put my team that I am using, and this is on hard. Stealing exp theory is bad, dead theory. Best and easiest way to beat phantom ship is giving Duessel few handaxes, Seth few javelins and putting everyone else in safe position. Promoting Franz to Paladin, Cormag to WK (or promoting Tana to WK, if you have enough whips), Garcia to Hero (if you have chest) will help you really really much.
