Ryo
Does anyone have a theory on what the "If" could symbolize/indicate? It's definitely a strange name for a game. Like "Awakening", there must be a meaning behind it too, or several meanings. What do you think? Could it be referring to the fact that you can make "big choices that affect the world"? Or something else?
Klokinator
>The trailer said "Fire Emblem: Working Title" >L95 pointed out the title was also Fire Emblem If >Therefore If means Working Title FE7if is FE7 Working Title. Gasp. Edited January 15, 2015 by Klokinator

lancerusso
Could it be referring to the fact that you can make "big choices that affect the world"? Or something else? Pretty much what I figured. It sounds like they'll really focus on lots of alternate endings, the way Iwata was emphasising the impact of decisions- and it seems like it won't just be a multiple choice text option like: 'What do you do with Ned Stark? ' >Behead >Pardon but rather things like the different paths we get in FE6 for visiting a different village. Maybe even hopefully, lots of hidden pathways through the game. Book of Ereshkigal
It comes from "what if ____" so it either implies choices or alternate universes.
Loki Laufeyson
Its because of the amount of choices the narrative will give players, or so the trailer and news say. So i guess "If" means "what if you chose this?" etc. I think its clever in its simplicity. The English title will likely not be If, but something like Fire Emblem: Reconciliation or some junk. Book of Ereshkigal
I really like the jp title(Though I understand why it would confuse people). I do hope they come up with something good for the english one.
Dragoncat
I think it's a lame title tbh...
shadowofchaos
JP title is jp. They likely don't have it in the way you guys are speculating. Just look at Persona the Ultimate Ultra Suplex Hold.
Sentacotus
Who knows. It could be like shadowofchaos said and its just one of those Japanese things. But it could also be alluding to the choices as in "what if" scenarios.
Baldrick
It's short for "if this game doesn't sell as well as Awakening did the series will be discontinued"
Celice
It's short for "if this game doesn't sell as well as Awakening did the series will be discontinued" "Please understand."
Alex95
Didn't Shin Megami Tensei name a game "If..."? Possible referance to crossover, maybe? HOPEFULLY?!
Book of Ereshkigal
Yes, the SMT series has a game with that title.
LuxSpes
Didn't Shin Megami Tensei name a game "If..."? Possible referance to crossover, maybe? HOPEFULLY?! I'd find it if they made straight out reference to a spin-off crossover game in a main series game. Though it would be nice to have some news concerning that game. And I saw some people joking that IF is for 'Important Feet'
Nobody
The first thing I thought of when I saw the if in the title was SMT if, but I think that's just a coincidence
