Not to mention PCB's Stage 4 feels so much longer than many others to me, and is definitely longer than the other stages in its own game at least. The difficulty spike is real. So yeah, they usually kill beginners, and I would be amazed if you actually managed to make it to the Prismrivers without much experience with Touhou in general. Good job on making it to Stage 4!
