Sånıc Bÿm
Hey everyone, In case you're wondering why I'm posting this in FftF instead of General Gaming, it's because this is highly speculative, like "What have you been smoking?" levels of speculative. Like a lot of you, I've been wondering what the NX could be. Nintendo has said that the NX will be a "new way to play." But what could they mean? They've said that it won't be like the Wii or Wii U. People have been saying that the NX will be a handheld/console hybrid, but doesn't the Wii U already have off TV play or whatever it's called? And can you even take the handheld component of the NX outside of the house? It's rumored to be as powerful as the vanilla Xbox One at the very least, so it would probably be too expensive to put the main computing components in the handheld component. And if the main computing components are in the console component instead, if you want the handheld component to function outside of the house, there would need to be some sort of Internet streaming between the handheld and console components, and unless you can find a WiFi hot spot everywhere you play, your wireless company's LTE data plan would get eaten up very quickly. No, I think this "new way to play" might be something different entirely. I think that Nintendo will take the "Super Mario Maker" concept over 9000 steps further, and make every NX a "Net Yaroze." The Net Yaroze was a consumer devkit for Sony's PS1. So what I mean by making every NX a "Net Yaroze" is that, ordinary consumers can program games for the NX, and unlike the Net Yaroze, which required a separate computer to do the actual programming, the NX might even let you program games using the NX itself without requiring a PC. With Sony and Microsoft seeming to focus more on offering "polished" gaming experiences, Nintendo can differentiate itself by taking a more "down and dirty," "hands on," and "under the hood" approach and dig deep into the iceberg that Minecraft and Super Mario Maker have only scratched the surface of. Minecraft's pretty popular, right? If Nintendo takes the Minecraft concept over 9000 steps further, then Mario can finally have his revenge on Steve: Also, notice that the acronym for Net Yaroze would be "NY." NX. NY. Coincidence? Only if you don't believe in the Illuminati (or Half-Life 3...).
