B_E_P_I_S_M_A_N
So you have this continent named Elibe. On that continent you have a country, ruled by two people named Elbert and Elena. Together, they have a son named Eliwood. So Eliwood goes out on his own, decides to have a family. He has a son. And what does he name his son? Roy. Like seriously wtf
MisfitMiju
Now that I think about it couldn't he have been named Elroy with Roy being his preferred name

Also I am of the headcanon that Roy's name is Elroy and he just prefers to be called Roy.

And actually, that makes more sense, but canonically speaking, it makes Eliwood seem a little "out there," if you know what I mean.
Paper Jam
My headcanon is that Roy is named after Roland.
ping
Why not both? Elroyland is a beautiful name for a boy. :D
DestructionDragon360
I think the writers just didn't think about it when they wrote up Eliwood's parents. Giving them all El- names was probably just a throwaway decision
Paper Jam
There's certainly no connection between Elibe and the nobility of Pherae. In the Japanese version, the continent is called Ereb.
