I'm thinking about selling half my Pokémon games

No this isn't a thread to post my eBay listings.

A little over 2 years ago, I thought it would be cool if I bought every main series Pokémon game which I already accomplished. I even bought both Sun and Moon. Still haven't got Ultra Moon but I do have Ultra Sun and I'm currently playing through that.

Anyways, I recently started asking myself why I even own half of these games if I never/rarely play them? I already beat Sapphire, why have Ruby? I already beat HeartGold, why have SoulSilver? (plus that game is worth $50 woohoo). Hell half of my Game Boy Pokémon games don't even hold a save so I might as well sell them to someone and have them replace the batteries. I figured now would be a good time to weed out the games from my collection that I don't play anymore starting with Pokémon. I need the extra space and I'm not hurting for cash but extra money never hurts lol.

If I were you, i would keep one version of each story, or enough games to trade within each generation so that you can get golum and such, whichever is greater. So I might sell the folowing:

Gen 1: sell Red or blue.

Gen 3: sell Gold or silver (whichever one can't hold saves. Fair warning, because replacing GSC's batteries is around 15$, you can't get much for cart with a dead save battery.

Gen 3: the complicating factor here is the fact that the gen one remakes can't trade with RSE untill the storey is almost 100% complete, so you can't use it to evolve graveler or something int the main storey. As such, you may want to keep both games. Sell ruby and saphire. (because any traiding to emerald to evolve during a run can be done from a compleated FR/LG)

Gen 4: Sell both diamond and pearl, as well as either HG or SS.

Gen 5: Sell either White 2 and black, or black 2 and white (to maximise the pokemon you can get. This is also the only time when the "Enhanced edition" plays so differently that you really want to keep the origional

Gen 6: Sell X or Y, and Omaga rubie or alpha saphire.

Gen 7: (assuming you bought all four) Sell sun and moon, or sun and ultra moon, or moon and ultra sun.

Only reason I can really think of to keep a version of each game is because you want to catch 'em all!

But yeah, if you don't really care about that you might as well sell half of the games. Even if you do care you can sell some of them really.

Some people really want a complete collection for its own sake. THis is why "Stadium events" for the NES can cost thousands of dollars despite being literaly the same game as "World Class track meet", which is a $5 game. Because they are tecnecaly different games (even if the code is almost identical), they are both required for a complete NES collection, and stadium events is much rarer (as most copies were pulled for rebranding as world class track meet.)

If you don't care about catching all pokemon, you should sell one of the versions. If you don't feel like playing a generation at all, you should sell all of them. I'm a videogame fan, and I have fond memories with the games, but I find myself playing less and less, so I'm considering selling most of my old games, Pokemon included
