Why "flame" instead of "fire"?

Why is it every time there's a group/faction/etc based on the fire element, the game uses "flame" instead? The "flame" tribe of Hoshido and now the kingdom of "flame" in Heroes. There is no "gale tribe" or "kingdom of frost", they use the basic name for the element, not a related term.

It can't be because of confusion with the series title, because there are tomes just called "fire".

Because the Fire Nation will attack otherwise.

I'll accept that lol.

@Glaceon Mage Then by that logic, there should also be "gale tribe" and "kingdom of frost", both are fancier "cooler" sounding names.

Maybe to you, but IS finds Wind Tribe and Ice Tribe cooler!

Really, it's just a name in a video game, I don't think it means all that much.

If the Flame Tribe was the Fire Tribe, I imagine a lot of people would be anticipating they'd have something to do with the Fire Emblem. But they don't, so to avoid potential confusion they went with Flame instead.

Fire tomes are a different story because the game conveys right away that Fire spells are generic and have nothing to do with the story at all, except for in Genealogy, where surprise surprise, Fire magic is associated with the kingdom that has the Fire Emblem.

You have to admit though, it'd be cool neat if the flame tribe had the Fire Emblem of Fateslandia. It'd have to be changed from a sword (iirc) to something else like a medal/badge/etc, but yeah. Rinkah could've been raised to guard it or inherit it or something. Nohr could be invading not just for shits and giggles, but to get their hands on it. Maybe it has the power to summon Anankos, and Garon has heard that Anankos will give him power or immortality or something if he summons him. Meanwhile the flame tribe don't know this, and just think it's a shiny treasure that fell into their hands long ago, although they sense there's something more to it. Idk, just about anything would be better than what Fates' story actually is.

But how do they convey that fire spells are generic? Some people might think fire tomes have story importance, maybe if they're new to the series. But that's interesting about Genealogy. Are fire tomes only available in that kingdom or on the characters from it? Gives the Sigurd barbecue more significance I guess?

Because you can just buy an infinite supply of Fire spells in most games, and Elfire tomes are also generic ranked tomes. You'll find them in random chests and carried by faceless enemies. They make it very clear that they're not special pretty much from their earliest appearances.

Fire tomes are generally wieldable by any mage in Genealogy, but people with Fala blood have innate talent with Fire magic. To top this off, only somebody with major Fala blood can wield the legendary Fire spell, Falaflame. And the descendents of Fala reside in Velthomer, with their family crest being the Fire Emblem. You can't say "Fire" in that game without immediately jumping to the descendents of Fala, who also identify themselves with the Fire Emblem.
