Tino
I've gotten fairly addicted to the good old NES games lately. I'd like to know if anybody can recommend me any good games to play. Thanks in advance ;)
Judge Judy
How about the legend of zelda nes game? Or Super Mario Bros. Edited November 16, 2008 by Luxord
Tino
I should've mentioned, but of course I already know about Super Mario Bros. and Zelda, and they're great games. But I wanted to know which NES games aside of the incredibly popular titles (Mario, Zelda, Megaman, etc.) are good games to play.
Starwolf_UK
*blows the Celice whistle* (seriously, that is the member to talk to) I would say that Just Breed might be worth looking into. It is a mix of a traditional JRPG and a Stratagy RPG. I've never really liked 8bit and the size of the NES catalogue scares me (it is at least 1500 games...) it took me a week to audit the MegaDrive catalogue down to 375 titles most of which should be worth playing...the time consumed have kept me doing the same with the SNES
Nightmare
The three Castlevania games are pretty superb (if you don't mind some of the quirks). Great music, excellent platforming, etc. There's also Konami Wai Wai World, another side-scroller gem. Two other games I'd recommend are Uninvited and Shadowgate if you're into point-and-click adventures. The former is horror while the latter is fantasy. A personal favourite of mine would be Phantom Fighter. I'm not sure if you'll like it, but I love that game. It's basically you going through cities and into buildings, fighting "Kyonshi"s as a master of kung-fu. That's all I can think of, off the top of my head. Fruitloop Multipuck
Various Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest/Warrior games, but there are superior versions not on NES Ninja Gaiden series Mother 1/Earthbound Zero Battletoads Crystalis (GBC version is inferior) Totally Rad (More for the awesomeness than the actual gameplay) StarTropics Ghosts 'n Goblins (Just...try not to rip your hair out) Kirby's Adventure
Ike-Mike
And while it is far from being a good game, get Cheetahmen II just to see why the Japanese made a meme out of it.
Celice
Here's an old list I made up a few months back. I haven't played my NES in a few months, but Just Breed definitely deserves to be on this list, as do some others I got into playing. [E] = European[J] = Japanese [!] = Good [!!!] = Must play *all games U.S. if not specified* NES 8 Eyes (Castlevania ripoff) Batman Returns (some of the more detailed graphics on the NES) Battletoads (one of the most complex games, coding-wise) Biohazard (pirate homebrew, but a complete recreation of Resident Evil 1 on the NES. If you can get it to boot, try it). Bugs Bunny's Crazy Castle [!] Chip'n'Dale Rescue Rangers Darkwing Duck [!!!] Deadly Tower (one of the worst games on the NES D:) Destiny of an Emperor [!!!] Destiny of an Emperor 2 [J] (makes sure you get the best patch) Dragon Quest [!] Dragon Quest II [!] Dragon Quest III [!] Dragon Quest IV [!] Duck Tales [!] Duck Tales 2 [!] Mother Famicom Wars Faxanadu [!!!] (get it NOW) Final Fantasy Final Fantasy II Final Fantasy III [!] Final Fantasy V (pirate homebrew--not too shabby) The Flintstones [!] Itadaki Street - Watashi no Mise ni Yottette [!] Kid Icarus [!!!] Kid Niki - Radical Ninja Kirby's Adventure Little Nemo - Dream Master Megaman Megaman 2 Megaman 3 Megaman 4 Megaman 5 Megaman 6 Metroid Punch-Out!! Atlantis no Nazo [J] [!!!] (best.game.evar) Nuts & Milk [J] Q-Bert River City Ransom The Rocketeer [!] Solstice Spiritual Warfare [!!!] (better than the original Zelda, if you can deal with the Bible crap spewed over it) Splatter House - Wanpaku Graffiti [J] Star Tropics [!] Star Tropics 2 - Zoda's Revenge (or something( Super Dodge Ball Super Mario Bros. Super Mario Bros. 2 Super Mario Bros. 2 [J] Super Mario Bros. 3 [!] Super Mario World (another nice pirate to check out) Sweet Home [J] [!] The Addams Family The Little Mermaid [!!!] Ultima - Exodus Ultima - Quest of the Avatar Uncharted Waters Wario's Woods Where's Waldo Zelda Zelda II *blows the Celice whistle* (seriously, that is the member to talk to) I also made a list sometime ago about some good hacks for various systems, NES included. I could scrounge that up, if someone wants ^^ Edited November 16, 2008 by Celice

Celice
Here's my old recommend list, with SNES, GBA, and some other systems included. As for hacks: What are some hacks you guys have enjoyed? I was just making a list for somewhere else, which spurred the idea to make this thread For me: Castlevania: Orchestra of DespairCastlevania: Chorus of Mysteries Dragoon X Omega Final Fantasy Epica Final Fantasy ++ Final Fantasy ++ - World of Chaos Dragoon X Omega II Mario Runner The Jehovah's Witnesses Rockman 2000 Megaman in the Mushroom Kingdom Byte's Adventure Rockman Exile Rockman Exhaust Rockman no Constancy Rockman 2 MIN Rockman Dues Ex Machina Enemy Lifebar (what? It's nifty :P ) Metrod Deluxe Metroid: Wart's Invasion Mario + Toad Recca - Pure Strange Mario Bros. (oh how has history turned) Luigi's Chronicles (anything by Googie is good ;) ) Toad's Adventure Super Mario Remix Mario's Moon Adventure Super Loco Spoof! Justin and Friends Mario Evolution Kirby's Adventure 2 SMB - Mario in Zebes XXXX Mario In Time Is Ticking The Pixel Kingdom Super Catholic Bros. Mario in: Some Usual Day Mario's Adventure (you will play it. now) Super Mario Bros. Chaos Control Super Wario Bros. Super Loco Spoof! 2 Mario Chronicles Green Dizzy Zelda Challenge: Outlands (Challenge... it'd be great if they didn't die off...) Time Crises: Fall of the Moon Super Mario Adventures Valis ++ Adventure of Error (for laughs really[/url] Zelda II - Part 2 Zelda II - Part 3 Unfortunately, I'm missing a ton of great hacks still. frantik's Super Mario Unlimited is one of the more captivating hacks I've seen in a while (lot's of nice ASM features thrown in). And here's some great Japanese hacks for Super Mario Bros. I never got around to playing. Hopefully the Yoshi's Island hack is in there, as is the Metroid hack (yes, you play Metriod-style Mario. As in, explore new areas after getting items Metroid). Worth mentioning outside of NES... Zelda: Parallel Worlds is a great hack with a lot of investment, but a lot of the dungeon designs are lacking. VIP Mario and Brutal Mario are hacks everyone needs to play. Maybe more will come to me later :/ Utilize this list guys.

Celice
Metal Storm looks to be a fun game, though haven't the chance to play it yet. It looks to be a side-scrollin' action game, with proportions of gravity thrown in for fun: your character has the opportunity to flip from the floor to the roof at will. If no roof is above you, you'll teleport from the top of the screen to the bottom until you hit a solid object. Worth a try if you're looking for something new. .Guerrilla War looks also to be a mix of Contra and Metal Gear in terms of presentation. Shooting, and all that. Superbus
I can definitely recommend Little Nemo: The Dream Master. It's a Capcom game from the time when almost everything they did from Mega Man to their Disney games turned to gold, and whenever anyone asks me to recommend an underappreciated NES game, I reach for that one. General Spoon
Zelda II: The Adventure of Link. Its the best Zelda game ever. Thank you for allowing me to decide for you.
