If I remember correctly, 616 is the actual number, 666 is a mistake that arose in copying manuscripts over 100 years after the first recording of 616. Actually, it matters to me quite a bit. As you can see in my signature, I have a doctoral degree in canon law. My specialty being interpretation of early documents, I view complete precision when dealing with the ancient Greek manuscripts that are the earliest sources of the Book of Revelations as very important.
