  1. You know, I have to agree with you. I think Garon is the one more at fault than Xander is. The former is just so stupidly, blatantly evil. If only Garon was written better, I would like to think the backlash against Xander would not have been so great. Garon is just too...over the top? That being said I definitely agree with what Ottservia said here, as well. This is why I think Xander isn't stupid or cowardly as many other people claim.
  2. I mean I'm personally so-so on Fates' localization; Treehouse certainly did change a lot, much more than necessary. Some changes I actually was in favor of, but what they did to the likes of Rhajat and definitely Xander are changes I am most certainly not a fan of.
  3. https://pastebin.com/xvDXm5eV Here is their Support from when people were translating the Japanese supports. The A Support is where Xander said he is now able to stand up to his father, but such a line is not present here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o8_rHbDXcSE At about 1:40 is Xander's dialogue. Now what he says even here may still be described as a threat, but I feel like it doesn't come off quite as...explicit? But sure, maybe it's my bias talking there. There used to be a really good tumblr post detailing just how much Xander was changed, but unfortunately it no longer exists.
  4. Not to mention that the whole "two Xanders" thing is a result of localization making changes to his character, both inside of supports and out; he never said he's "wise enough to stand up to his father" in the Japanese version of his support with Corrin, nor did he make the heavy implication that he'd personally harm Corrin himself should what they said about Garon turned out to be a lie. For as much criticism and backlash the localization gets, I find it strange how people are unaware that Xander was heavily affected by it, as well.
  5. I don't know if every game I'm about to be listed can be considered to be "critically acclaimed", but here we go: Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia: It looks great. It sounds great. But my praise ends there. I found it boring to play. Cantors were really annoying to deal with, and swamp and desert maps were a total slog. Sure, movement was always limited in these types of maps in previous and future Fire Emblem games, but not to this extent. Overall I did not have fun while playing this game, and if I'm not having fun with a game, then not even a good story can save it. ...speaking of the story, I cannot say many good things about it, anyway. In fact, I would say it irritated me. I hated how perfect Alm was, and how only Celica was allowed to make mistakes. Alm's mission and how much he accomplished massively overshadowed what Celica did, and in the end it kind of felt like it was more of Alm's game and not Alm and Celica's game. Pokemon Heartgold: ...maybe it's because I played Pokemon White first, but battles took so long in this game I felt; battle speed was so slow. That and from what I remember, level scaling was rather poor? So by the end of the game, I found it difficult to level up my Pokemon to a decent level. I don't know, I just found this game to be rather boring. Tales of Vesperia: While I don't dislike this game necessarily, I was let down by it. It was hyped up to be one of the best Tales of games ever made, but I personally didn't find that here. I enjoyed the gameplay enough, it was about as good as Tales of Abyss (one of my favorite Tales of games, personally). It is also the prettiest Tales of games in my opinion, or at least one of the prettiest. But the story never really went anywhere, and the final arc felt rather tacked on. I really liked Yuri, but Estelle annoyed me with how indecisive she was. Over all I enjoyed the game and I can see myself playing it again in the future, but I don't think it's the best.
  6. Oh boy. That'd have to be Xander from Conquest for me. Definitely. People complain about how much of a coward he apparently is, but I genuinely think so many of them don't understand the position he's in. He's not a coward, he's a victim of abuse. His father is a man who wouldn't hesitate to kill his own children should they directly disobey. He doesn't want to admit his father may very well be gone; he's in denial. He thinks that if he and his siblings were to do as his father says, if Nohr wins the war, then he will go back to the stern yet loving father he once was. Which, I honestly don't think is such a far-fetched belief. Like, look. Maybe I'm being biased af since he's one of my favorite Fire Emblem characters. Sure. But it always rubs me the wrong way when people just boil him down to being an "idiot" or a "spineless coward".
  7. Personally I would say Fire Emblem is close to a JRPG. I mean it pretty much is, just a different "type" of one. That being said, I do still think that the female lords aren't treated as fairly for my liking. Or, rather, the male lords are written to be much too perfect. That being said AGAIN, I still do genuinely like the female lords, and I wish some of the male lords were written to be as flawed as them (biggest offenders being Ephraim and Alm). This, however, I would definitely agree with!
  8. Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition. What can I really say except that it is just as fun as it was on the Wii, except it is better as a whole thanks to the QoL changes. Expert Mode is great to use, as it allows the player to complete the game's many sidequests without becoming overleveled. Better yet is that you can de-level and level up again whenever you want. Even though this is my ~3rd time playing the game, I still have a lot of fun with it, especially when it comes to just running around its large, open world.
  9. Couldn't agree more. I really did not have fun with Echoes much at all. People say that its story is good, but I really don't think it is. It's infuriating how awful Celica is treated when compared to Alm. It's honestly my least favorite Fire Emblem game.
  10. Shadows of Valentia has amazing voice acting, music, and character designs/art style. Corrin is a really annoying character. The Hoshido bias in Fates is incredibly annoying. ...However, Conquest has some really great maps and gameplay. Three Houses, thanks to the unskippable first half, becomes kind of a slog to play through after the first play through.
  11. Female, because I'm a female and I like playing as my own gender in video games.
  12. I rather like Leo x Charlotte. While their C-A supports aren't spectacular, I very much like their S Support. I also enjoy Camilla x Odin. Odin is his usual odd self in this one, and Camilla does seem initially put off by how he acts. But she wears the name he gave to her armor with pride, and she's overall pretty nice to him (unlike Corrin). Corrin is only ever brought up once in this Support, and that's only to say "hey, I mentioned the armor's name to them". Also, what she says to him at the end of their A Support is just really sweet: " Before you go, Odin, let me say this: the world is a more joyful place with you in it. And don't hesitate to come tell me your troubles. You will always have my ear."
  13. It's strange, really. While there is more stuff in Fates that angers me more than Three Houses, I still overall prefer the former. I dislike both CQ Corrin AND BR Corrin. I hate how Camilla is treated. I hate the fanservice-y armor. I hate that Nohr is so obviously evil, Hoshido so obviously good. (But what I hate about Fates the most is the RNG. I swear, it is rigged in the enemy's favor...) But...well, while Three Houses doesn't have a character I hate as much as some of the ones in Fates? Overall--as a whole--I prefer the characters of Fates, even if they aren't as "grounded" as a lot of the ones in Three Houses. I still love the Nohr siblings more than anyone in the latter game, for example. And while the first part of Three Houses still has a fairly, fairly similar story no matter which House you decide to pick, the story in Fates changes as soon as the paths split. I also prefer the concept of Fates--do you side with the people who raised you, even though you might be on the wrong side morally? Or do you decide to defend an innocent country, even if it means turning your blade on your loved ones? ...whereas Three Houses is simply just kind of...pick the students you want to teach. I would also say that Fates has the better gameplay...or at least Conquest. I think everyone's said it before, but that one in particular has some of the best maps in the series (even though some could be quite...unfair in difficulty). I would also say that Fates has the better replayability, due to the pairing and various seals. I also much prefer the music in Fates. I really can't remember that many music tracks in Three Houses, whereas Fates has stuff like You of the Dark/Light, Pray to the Dark, Dusk Falls, and much more. And I love just how absolutely...dream-like Past Below and Woleb Tsap sound. ...so, yeah. There's my two cents. Or three.
  14. The one where Corrin was acting all shy and nervous and awkward around his 12-year-old sister. (I'm talking about Corrin x Elise.)
  15. I like F!Byleth's personally but I wish M!Byleth was showing off more of his chest, too. Maybe that's a bit weird to say, but if F!Byleth has to show off some of hers, why not M!Byleth as well?
