  1. Considering the fact that they're supposed to be inheriting skills and whatnot, yeah it sounds pretty silly from a gameplay perspective. It is when tumblr invades your fanbase. Get used to it.
  2. Butler's melee range doubling animation is pretty hilarious/amazing when it doesn't kill. They turn into a helicopter.
  3. Walking on eggshells here and I mean none of this as "taking a shot" at anyone, but I'm just surprised nobody has seen anything like this before and considers it to be this appalling. The Japanese industry isn't anywhere near as influenced by "social justice" as the Western side is. We're not talking about BioWare here. At any rate, it will without a doubt be changed and I can't say I'll care much because I already own the JP version, I just won't support the localization. If you're really still that concerned, you can write a letter to Treehouse or something.
  4. There are numerous things that are traumatic and can ruin ones life, such as murder. Why is one acceptable in fiction and the other is not? It quite clearly wasn't rape though, so what is this even about if you're not just projecting? Once again, she accepted the proposal. Nothing was forced and we have no reason to believe the drug does anything other than cause her to see males as females unless I've missed something.
  5. Just people taking fictional characters way too seriously to the point of being "outraged", par for the course in the West. If you want something resembling a logical explanation, the closest thing I can think of is it "triggers" them to think about a situation even vaguely similar to being drugged and raped (since rape is a super hot button topic lately) despite the fact that she's not being mind controlled or doing anything beyond ingestion of the drug against her will. She still accepts his proposal, she agrees to remain faithful. As for somehow being offended by the "before marriage, I can’t thoughtlessly touch a woman’s body" thing, I have no idea. It's simply the belief of the character in this particular path. Kamui still has a character of his/her own. They're not meant to be a 100% self-insert, there is no silent protagonist option this time.
  6. Easy mode has existed in plenty of localized titles and it has always been very true to its name. It may as well have been the same thing. I'm sure the great marketing had plenty to do with it, but the way so many talk about the characters and "shipping" it's pretty obvious a fair chunk of them were lured in by formal "marriage" being tacked onto the support system. That in itself was "fanservice". I'm also really not blaming anything. I've been with the series for over a decade now and have no problem with the way things have gone. The only new thing I can't stand is the now /very/ Westernized fanbase calling for things they don't like to be removed or drastically changed, absolutely zero grasp of how little the Japanese industry cares. Bitter veterans proclaiming the series dead are nothing compared to people who actively try to strip the game of content it already features, especially when that content is optional. The party food analogy mentioned earlier was perfect. Just please stick to tearing apart Western devs for not walking on eggshells, they seem pretty willing in their attempts to satisfy the insatiable. I've already given up on that side of the industry.
  7. Fanservice is largely what sold Awakening. You know why the tumblr crowd latched onto the game so hard? It's not because they suddenly started enjoying the concept of SRPGs, it's because the game had a very expansive feature that caters specifically to their "shipping" obsession. Are you seriously confused as to why people don't like you for crying to have completely optional content removed from a game that already has it? The only thing "forced" on you is Camilla in cutscenes. Ideally the game would be rated "Mature" and if you cannot handle seeing some fairly mild sexual themes in a game of that rating, then you probably aren't of age (be it physically or mentally) to be playing it in the first place. Shaming someone over liking sexually suggestive content is pretty low, I'd be fighting just the same if you were somehow offended by the existence of Pheonix Mode, another entirely optional feature that you don't have to experience if you don't want to. Lobbying to have largely optional content removed simply because you don't enjoy it is extremely petty, fans will always speak out against those pushing for this type of thing.
  8. 8-4 burned us pretty bad, I'm not expecting much better from Treehouse. NoA's been embracing violence more, but I can't see them doing the same for such blatant sexuality so soon. If it somehow gets here intact, I'll gladly buy all of the routes a second time. If not, oh well, I already own the game in its real form and have no real need to buy half of a game I already own in full.
  9. No, but they do get brushed off by society as a whole because trying to claim that a professional artist's work is objectively bad is pretty laughable. They've presumably attended schools of the same prestige as you have, what right do you have to proclaim that everybody needs to think a certain way about a particular piece of theirs? I'm not here to debate with an art major about how art is apparently objective now, I have no interest in derailing the thread when it's clear we won't come to an agreement. Saying that "there is no excuse" for something you don't personally like seems pretty shitty to me, that's all I'm saying. You'd think IS murdered their family. I specifically said that I have no problem with someone disliking the designs, I personally hate Fighter myself. I'm just not going to start a petition over it.
  10. You're allowed to dislike them (I never said you weren't, so very defensive) and you're even allowed to say that art is somehow objectively "terribly constructed", just as I'm allowed to say that's bullshit. As "someone with professional experience in character design" you of all people should know that art is subjective. I'm not going to cower at the sight of someone swinging their "authority" on the subject at me, sorry.
  11. I'd love to know what kind of Japanese games you've been playing. We are talking modern here, right? Semantics aside, this is the route Awakening went down and it's also the one that easily gave them the most success they've ever seen. I'm not arguing against anyone voicing their dislike of the designs, I'm just surprised you didn't see this coming. The game will more than likely be butchered upon localization anyway to get the T rating, you'll have the family friendly game you desire and anyone who has a problem with supporting censorship will have sprung for the JP copy (as I have) if they hadn't already.
  12. /feg/ has always been great. It's the only thing I use the site for anymore after the owner lost his mind and replaced his entire mod team with some rather unlikeable individuals.
  13. Welcome to anime indeed. I have to laugh at the people saying that "there's no excuse for this", as if the designers have done something objectively wrong or committed some heinous crime by painting their vision exactly the way they wanted it to look. I get that tumblr latched onto Awakening pretty hardcore, but you're laying on the manufactured outrage a little thick.
  14. No, that's pretty much exactly what you're saying. You want more pandering to your particular lifestyle, yet want options that pander to a crowd you're not a part of removed. I've seen people saying that this "redeems the game for them", like they weren't going to buy it, but this minute little detail that spans a few minutes worth of conversations between characters is making them purchase now. That's also how the media is acting, celebrating it as a "victory for the LGBT community", as if places like tumblr complaining about the lack of it in Awakening had actually shaped the decision at all. It's a Japanese series that recently went the blatant fanservice route, naturally it's going to include yuri and yaoi at some point. That's also why the gay characters in question are "sadistic" or twisted, stuff like that is pretty fetishized in entertainment mediums aimed at otaku. Very little discussion from "professionals" surrounding the game up until the last 12 hours before release when gay marriage was revealed, then all of the sudden dozens of articles simultaneously posted celebrating (while bemoaning the "lack of options" because simply being satisfied with their supposed victory is too sensible) and continue to do so now. I'm bisexual, I'm far from a "bigot", but I really dislike the fact that the game will probably be remembered the most as "the one that included gay marriage" rather than "the one that fixed just about everything wrong with Awakening, had one of the best soundtracks in the series, returned actual online multiplayer", etc.
