  1. If you're doing Birthright, I'd definitely go +Spd since there are hardly any enemy units that have Wary Fighter, at least on Hard Mode anyway; I'm not sure about Lunatic.

This is true outside of pvp, castle battles, and dlc. Unfortunately, I have yet to do my lunatic runs so I can't shed any more light on that lol.

  2. I agree on the lost potential. I think there should have been a way to get special equipment or items from capturing key units. Of course, if that unit shows up in the story later, they can't be sitting in your jail. How about getting ransom money by capturing and returning prisoners?

Yeah, that would have worked too. I was thinking that if someone reappears in another map that you'd go to check your prison in that chapter and they'd have escaped lol.

  3. I've always been a +Spd guy myself, but this game is doing a good job of steering me away from it. Weapons that can't double regardless of your speed, Wary Fighter, and the currently unidentified change to the RNG that makes dodging/hitting things when you really need to less reliable than it has been are all examples of ways this game is telling me to stop going +spd. :(

  4. I personally wouldn't recommend doing a +mag build for birthright. Unless I somehow missed it, there was no Levin Sword in Birthright (although there are flame shurikens, bolt axe, and bolt naginata). I also feel that Nohr Noble benefits from a +mag build far more than a Hoshidan Noble, but that might just be my fondness for self-sustain talking (instead of every other unit having a healing staff). It should still work, but I don't think it's as good.

There shouldn't be any problem at all with a +mag build for Revelations though (I haven't done it yet myself, but I find it hard to believe there wouldn't be a Levin Sword in that).

As far as a +mag Hero build... hmm... actually that could work in Birthright depending on how quickly you get C axe mastery, thanks to the bolt axe (and we get Grandmaster/Ignis from next week's DLC if you are willing to drop money on that, or already have). Probably wouldn't want to go any kind of crit build since magic weapons can't crit. If I come up with any other ideas for skills I'll come back and post, but don't expect me to help choose a bane lol. I'm terrible at choosing banes.

  5. - This might be broken, but I wish there was a "Take action, then move option" as well as "Move first, then action."

Yeah I wish we got Canto back too...

This would be pretty absurd. These are not mercenaries with flexible loyalty and morality (unless you're Kaze), these are ROYAL retainers, people who have sworn their loyalty to their lord and will even die for them. It would strain credibility if they could be convinced to betray everything they know for you. All the cabbages in the world and Camilla's tits wouldn't be enough to buy their loyalty.

I'm not saying that ALL of the retainers should be capturable, but imagine capturing Saizo in Conquest and having to have Kaze specifically persuade him multiple times. I could see that happening, especially with what happens in Conquest 17(?) (Den of Betrayal). Or Arthur, I could see there being some way to get him to eventually see your choice as being just. Maybe even successfully persuading them doesn't recruit them, but they give you their named weapon or a stat-booster etc. and then you release them with some kind of mutual understanding that each will fight for what they believe in. There's just soooo much lost potential in the prison.

  6. Yeah 21B was the lava one with stoneborns. When my friend got to that chapter and started asking me about it I just told him to look at it till he figured it out. Took him maybe ~70 seconds to figure it out. I didn't even know what the DVs would do if you got it wrong till I went back for a ruffian challenge lol.

Also, Conquest's Ice Tribe map was really nice (I believe it was 8C?). I liked it for similar reasons that I like 12B. Using the DV there is completely optional, and it can either do almost nothing or it could save someone's hide depending on how you use it. It's simple, but it works well with the map's other gimmick (racing enemies to villages before a large number of enemies vomit out).

  7. I've finished Birthright, but I'm only on ch18 Conquest, and yet to start Revelations.

With that in mind, I'm surprised no one has mentioned Birthright 12 (xander in the opera house).

You have the option to play the map in 2 and a half different ways. Technically you can ignore the DV alltogether by pairing Corrin with a flyer (but that's no fun). If you're one of the cool kids that is willing to actually play the map instead of using above strat then you can choose to either use the DV asap or save it till you're ready rush corrin to the exit. The sooner you use the DV, the faster Xander comes to wreck your booty lol (because he can then cut across the ice as well).

Conquest 10 gives a similar "oh sh!t" feeling with its DV, but I think it could have been much better if Takumi was running around hitting 1-use DVs to dry the water and you could run around filling it back up. Who doesn't like a nice wet game of tug'o war with a pineapple head?

My least favorite is probably an odd choice for an odd reason. Birthright 21 because it's an insult to my intelligence and does nearly nothing for the map if you just take the time to look at things. No offense to whoever made the thread, but I got my best laugh of the year when I saw a thread here asking if the DV effects were random.

  8. First off, so many of these are so great that I don't want to spend 10 hours commenting on how amazing each one is.

Secondly, I have a bunch of ideas, but I guess I'll start with a FF reference: Dragoon

    Dragoon fefates-icon-lance.png S

    Max Stats:

    Hp: 60 Str: 35 Mag: 26 Skl: 28 Spd: 34 Lck: 27 Def: 29 Res: 30 Mov: 6

    Base Stats:

    Hp: 20 Str: 10 Mag: 0 Skl: 7 Spd: 9 Lck: 1 Def: 7 Res: 7 Mov: 6

    Growth Rates:

    Hp: 20 Str: 15 Mag: 0 Skl: 10 Spd: 15 Lck: 5 Def: 10 Res: 10

    Pair-up Stats:

    +3 Str +3 Spd +Acrobat effect

    Skills:

Lv1: Acrobat (traverses all terrain equally)

Lv10: Jump (Jump command attacks with 1-3 range for all Lances/Naginatas. Follow-up attacks cannot be made, and user gains avo -10 for 1 turn.)

Lv25: Blood of the Dragon (This unit gains stat bonuses/detriments from carried dragonstones, but only the first in the inventory.)

Lv35: Wyrmsbane (Wyrmsbane command consumes dragonstone to make next attack deal bonus damage to dragon enemies.)

  9. Still Odin, Selena, Laslow spoilers

They actually do react to Robin and Lucina but only if they face off against them in their Hero Battles. All it does is confirm that the Robin and Lucina they've spoken to are not the ones they know.

I just realized that I confused myself in a very silly way. I haven't even done my hero battles in Conquest lol. Of course they didn't react to Lucina/Robin during my Birthright playthrough, they aren't playable in Birthright! ;P Although, it would've been really really cool if they had said something when I was using Lucina/Robin against them in Birthright.

  10. My Castle would have been perfect for reimplementing base conversations from PoR and RD. People really seem to underestimate how much those short little skits flushed out the characters and story.

We're still having trouble getting good critical/skill animations since the jump to portable 3D. Fates is much better than awakening in this regard, but the animations still lack the impact seen in FEs 6-10.

There's no reward for maxing your bond with your S rank partner... it just resets the meter... like wut?

    Odin, Selena, Laslow Spoiler

The supports do a fantastic job at hinting that they're actually the same people from awakening, and the Before Awakening DLC flat-out confirms this, but there is no reaction whatsoever to Robin and Lucina einherjars. I know they're einherjars, but still...

By the time I finish Ghostly Gold to get money for Eternal Seals several more of my characters have leveled up enough that I then need more money to buy eternal seals for them as well, and it just repeats from there.

I know there are still other things that bother me, but I can't remember any that haven't already been said off the top of my head.

EDIT: Just remembered another. Birthright gives absolutely no explanation about the Outrealms. They're just kinda there as magical hyperbolic time chambers for kids.

  12. Expect the best, prepare for the worst. Just because Roy's an FE character doesn't mean he'll be compatible with Fates. Corrin is getting an Amiibo, but I doubt he'll be compatible either.

"Expect the best, prepare for the worst." All of my feelings towards IS as a whole summed up right here lol.

As for the Corrin amiibo, they could have it compatible without recruiting a character. I could see getting a dragon mask accessory, and/or getting a dragon herb instead of einherjar for beating a team of corrin + royals.

Though, like I said, I'm intentionally indulging in wishful thinking here lol.

  13. Just remembered a really nitpicky nitpick I have with the UI.

First, the bonus damage weapons have their icons to show what kinds of units they deal bonus damage to, but they didn't use those icons anywhere on the unit summary to tell the player which classes/characters fall under those categories. It doesn't really affect me, since I'm experienced enough to know by heart, but I can imagine how confused a new or intermediate player could be trying to figure it out through trial and error.

  14. Oh yeah, the other thing that bothers me about the prison system. Why do the weapons disappear when you capture someone?! (Outside of the obvious reason that it would make enemy-exclusive weapons available to the players and mess with game balance)

I've always felt that the characters in FE would (usually) leave a fallen enemy's weapon with their grave as a token of battlefield respect, but if you capture someone that logic doesn't apply. Furthermore, they already have unequipable weapons programmed into the games through the amiibo data. So they could have easily made it so that any balance breaking weapons you might get through capturing somebody would be locked onto the character they were captured on.

  15. I'll agree that I may be keeping my hopes up more than I possibly should because I want to believe it'll come eventually, but I don't think it'd be better as DLC.

Amiibos have been extremely successful as nintendo's newest cash crop and money is exactly what would get the developers/artists/etc. to come back and make new content.

Again, it's mainly that I want to believe (partially because I'm getting it anyway lol). Especially with Japan's 2nd wave of DLC coming out right now. It's not hard to imagine them releasing an update with the new DLC.

  16. You can get around Counter and Countermagic by using bows, hand axes, javelins, any ranged melee weapon. Counter only activates if you're directly next to the person and Countermagic only triggers if you use magic. It's a pretty big weakness to an annoying set of skills.

Except they nerfed the crap out of 1-2 range weapons that aren't named shuriken, further justifying the brokenness of ninjas.

I mean seriously, why do katanas give +1 Spd and -1Def/Res while shuriken give +2 Spd with no defense drop?!

  17. The corpse of my Conquest!Camilla still rotting on the floor of the Rainbow Sage's temple from her encounter with Azama begs to differ. Between that and that other skill which inflicts half-damage dealt when he doesn't have a weapon caused her strike to OHKO her. (damned bastard dastard... :squeezedtangerine: ) Unless I'm missing something, that sucker of a skill definately triggers upon initiating combat with a unit that has that skill equipped.

I mean if the counter user initiates, and that's kinda my point, that the skill alone kills people when the user doesn't even have a weapon equipped.

I don't understand why they made such a gigantic jump with counter in the first place. In PoR and RD it was a chance to deal 1/2 damage received, and then in awakening they make it always deal full damage back. It's silly.

  18. Just expect nothing.

    And rejoice if it does.

I still expect it to become compatible at a later date. Just because I find it hard to believe that they would make some of the fire emblem amiibos compatible and not others. Also, it's not like Roy's amiibo will be compatible with a vanilla copy of smash either lol.

  19. Oh man, this thread is just what I needed. I'm gonna have fun with this!

I can understand (not agree with) nerfing javelin/hand axes/spears/etc. but seriously, why does this game taunt us by making actually good, enemy exclusive 1-2 range weapons?!

I can understand (somewhat agree with) making all dlc and castle battles except boo camp not giving exp in Conquest, but can we at least get weapon mastery for heaven's sake?!

Kagero and Camilla's busts magically turn into pancakes if you make them great lords.

Counter didn't get nerfed (I know it won't activate if you initiate anymore, but it would have been much better if they just made it deal 1/2 damage instead).

Fell Brand to become a Grandmaster that we get next week is male only...

    Selena's laugh.

IS still hasn't figured out how to make recruiting people realistic/fun (look at Nyx: "You have no friends? We can be your friends." "Hmm, OK.") and we still recruit (nearly) everyone with MU.

We can't capture retainers. Seriously, this would have made the prison system so cool! They could even only decide to join you if a certain character persuaded them.

    World map view sucks.

I feel like the weapon triangle would have made more sense if it was: (sword/hidden) > (axe/magic) > (lance/bow) > repeat.

The hidden weapons are mostly slashing weapons like swords, magic theoretically takes a certain degree of time to cast, making it similar to slow/heavy axes, and I've always thought of lances trumping swords because of their reach which would make bows' place in the weapon triangle very similar.

I guess that's all I can think of for now, but I can guarantee I'll think of more later.

  20. Fancy Footwork does stack with Rally Strength and Speed

Hmmmmm... interesting. Glad I went back and changed "I know" to "I'm pretty sure" before I posted lol.

In that case, Rally Speed comes from Falcon Knight (pegasus) and Rally Strength comes from Berserker (fighter).
