I came back from Godzilla vs. Kong and it was pretty good! I'll have to rewatch it to form a more concrete opinion, but here are scattered thoughts for now (spoilers obviously): I could probably think of more things to say, but I'm a bit tired at the moment. The point is that Bowser vs. Donkey Kong is a good movie and you should see it at some point.

It's a shame that Unit-03 was possessed and destroyed immediately after it activated, though I'm not sure how much of a help it would've been against the remaining Angels. Cool, it would also be neat if Godzilla fought another one of his inspirations, King Kong... wait a minute.

By some strange sorcery, it's been a day since Pyra and Mythra's figures went up again and they're still taking preorders. Have they finally found the stock to match demand? I'm still not sure if I'll end up buying them though, maybe I'll just get one or settle for their amiibo instead. Or maybe I can wait and see if they'll make a Coffee with Milk figure? Hmm... In other news, I'm finally seeing Deimos Sauros vs. Territorial Rotbart today. Hooray! Does everyone in this thread already know what happens? It reminds me of the episode of Evangelion where everyone knows who Unit-03's pilot is except Shinji...

Well I did get a bunch of Frozen merchandise a few years ago, which is basically the same thing right? Anna and Elsa are basically anime girls anyway. Unless I make several bad investments and get thousands of dollars into debt, I think I should be fine. Even if something does happen, I can cancel my order whenever so it's not too big of an issue.

I have done it. After some deliberation, I sold my soul to the anime gods by preordering the latest release of Pyra and Mythra's figures. Though they're not releasing until February 2023, so I have that amount of time to explain it to my parents and I can cancel it whenever I want (you don't get charged until your order ships). May the Architect have mercy on my soul...

I'm not complaining or anything, I just wasn't expecting to see myself there. I was busy during the Hunger Games discussion so I wouldn't be able to sign up anyway, but I appreciate that I was included. I'm not sure if I'll get higher than third next time, but we'll have to see.

I don't even remember signing up, but I think placing third is pretty good. Shrimpy should've thought twice about trying to have Claude kill me and killing Armagon before I came after him. Only dysentery could claim my life because no man was strong enough to kill me.

Oh no, the curse of Eva is spreading! Thank you, but actually I have a few cousins once removed already. It's getting a bit hard to keep track of how many there are at this point. I plan to rewatch K:SI and KotM before I see GvK, but I realize that now GvK will be there on HBO Max, mocking me for not seeing it immediately, as I'm trying to watch its predecessors. I should be able so see it by Saturday at least. (And though I obviously don't want to know any spoiler details, I would like to know beforehand if GvK has a post-credits scene... not that it really matters, since I can just rewatch it on HBO Max if I miss it in theaters.)

My cousin had a baby today, so the group text with the rest of my cousins was just like the ending of Neon Genesis Evangelion Except there was no penguin. I'll wait for the dub to come out, whenever that is. The anime trilogy didn't take too long to be released in English so it probably won't be too long of a wait. Waiting for the English release of the last Evangelion movie will certainly be longer in any case.

How topical, considering that Big Chungus was added to Death Road to Canada recently as Elmer Fudd’s Stand. Maybe we’re in a Chungus renaissance? I want to see Godzilla vs. Kong in theaters first, but I’ll be too busy to see it tomorrow. Hopefully I’ll find a theater that isn’t full when I’m free to see it.

Not even remotely (nor are Gamera and Ultraman), I was using it as an example of how cinematic universes can be done poorly by including references without much subtlety to set up something for later. I was mainly thinking of Batman v Superman and how it had teases for the rest of the Justice League without giving them their own movies, and I used other kaiju things for comparisons sake. Plus, Eva being part of the MonsterVerse would mean we'd get a live-action Evangelion movie, which would destroy the universe.

Having rewatched Godzilla 2014 the other day, I forgot just how long it takes for Godzilla to show up. The build up to when he actually does show up is great (build up is something G14 does well, since it's inspired by older horror movies like Jaws and Alien), and it's fun when he gets proper screentime. Contrary to popular opinion, I didn't mind the "skip the airport battle" thing too much since we get a proper fight later. Though the fact that Godzilla mostly doesn't factor into the humans' plan to defeat the MUTOs until the end makes G14 feel more like a disaster movie featuring Godzilla than a Godzilla movie (contrast KotM, where Godzilla is important to the plot even when he isn't onscreen). That isn't to say I don't like G14, it's still an enjoyable watch. Thinking about it more, I appreciate that the MonsterVerse is one of the few times a "cinematic universe" was done properly, though the fact that it only revolves around two popular characters probably makes it easier develop. Can you imagine if KotM had teases for Gamera, Ultraman, and an Evangelion that were completely shoehorned in? Hmm, maybe it could work if it was executed well...

They invited Pac-Man?! That cherry chasing dot muncher isn't even part of this series! From what I've heard, the quest to get Pac-Man's card makes Ursula's quest look fast and easy. Good luck! Relatedly, I don't know if you found it but the first game had a reference to KOS-MOS.

They made a toy of the main villain of Guilty Gear? No, wait, he's "That Man", not "that guy". I didn't know about the "King Kong" thing, but I suppose they can keep the spirit of my idea even if they don't actually call him King Kong. I assumed the unidentified city battle was also in Hong Kong, but we'll see what happens. I don't think this has been shared here yet so here's a more detailed explanation on why Rex isn't playable in Smash. It seems Sakurai's original idea didn't include Mythra, so something good came out of the final result even if Rex was left out (and he's happy for them anyway).

They're just following in their big half-sister's footsteps of being more promoted than the main character of their game. Since I promised it earlier, here are my updated Godzilla vs. Kong predictions. It shouldn't include any details that weren't in the the trailer (though it does mention "that guy" who technically does appear in the trailer).

I think saying that Daisy “starred” in Super Mario Land is a bit generous, don’t you think? Unless you’re talking about Super Mario Run... And Godzilla vs. Kong is officially only two weeks away, hooray! Maybe I’ll share revised predictions later.

If Armagon is Godzilla, do I get to be Mothra? Or Rodan, whatever fits. King Ghidorah never dressed as a waifu werewolf for Halloween, so you can’t quite compare him to Grima yet.

For those interested, it seems Pyra's GoodSmile figure is back in stock for the time being--though it'll probably be out soon so get it while you can. EDIT: Nevermind, it's out of stock now... though at least they'll get amiibo now that they're in Smash Bros.

Sakurai said during the Pyra/Mythra presentation (and the subsequent Famitsu column) that there are only two characters left, so probably not since he would know by now if there's going to be more.

Since Godzilla is being promoted as the big bad monster corrupting everything, either there's a twist where "King Ghidorah is really behind everything" or (more likely) he'll get a tease at the end of the last episode and he'll be saved for a future season. King Ghidorah was only a good guy in GMK because Anguirus and Varan weren't marketable enough, and since he's best known as Godzilla's nemesis I don't think we'll get a heroic Ghidorah again. Speaking of, I'm glad that Singular Point is giving lesser known monsters some attention. If/when Ghidorah does show up in SP, I wouldn't mind if they went really out-there with his concept. The MonsterVerse has the peak "traditional" Ghidorah so it'd be interesting for something new next time. On the topic of Smash, one thing I realized is that Pyra and Mythra dodged a bullet by not being the last character. The last character will inevitably get flak for not being *insert popular request here* no matter who they are, so I'm glad they avoided that baggage. I considered beforehand that XC2 might be saved for the last character if it got one (like Byleth), but Pyra and Mythra were announced now so that wasn't an issue.

It's nice to see more returning monsters, and I like the more "out-there" monster designs since they aren't constrained by live action. Besides Manda and Hedorah being confirmed, there seems to be various Kamacuras/Kumonga/Gigan/Megalon looking insects. Could there be some fusion/mutation going on? It's also worth noting that all the kaiju so far appear to be from the Showa era.

You need to have data for Persona 5 Strikers and Ghosts 'n Goblins Resurrection to get those spirits at the moment, but they'll be available for everyone else later. I'd guess that CP10 would be released in June around E3 time, but I don't think E3 is happening this year so they could be announced earlier. Generally there's only been a gap of two to three months between DLC characters, so I expect the last character to be released in September at latest. There are only two characters left so I don't think we'll get both of them announced at once.

The official reason is that her proportions are too different from Villager's, but I think the actual reason is that she's too marketable to "just" be an echo. I doubt many people would've complained if she was an echo in any case. Since I assume you watched the Japanese versions... did you ever see the scenes where Godzilla and Anguirus talk?
