  1. Simply put, what's your stance on breaking or unbreaking weapons in FE? My take is that most weapons should be breakable. However, there should be exceptions. In my ideal system, there would be Bronze weapons (and equivalent tomes) that every character joins your side with, and you get a new one added to your convoy for free each time someone joins if they don't have one in their inventory. They would be very weak, very heavy (making doubling less likely) and cannot get critical hits, but would be useful to finish off/weaken enemies. Also, the Lord/Avatar unit would have an unbreaking Prf. weapon. The Lord's could perhaps be their starting Rapier, which gets stronger at plot-relevant moments, and the Avatar's is somewhere between a Silver and Steel Sword in effectiveness.
  2. I was playing Path of Radiance and I'd noticed, I liked using Rolf a lot more than I thought I would. Maybe RNG blessed me but even so, he's faring pretty well in fights, and absolutely mopped the floor with the chapter 12 Heron Laguz. The results screen even showed him as MVP two or three times, on maps with no flying enemies. This got me thinking, who do people think the best Gordin is and why?
  3. I'm sure this thread has come up before, I probably made one a long time ago, but if you could create your own Fire Emblem game, what would it be like? Mine would be on Switch and go as follows: A minor nobleman warrior goes off with his retainers (including your Avatar) to inspect a large fort. The fort has been taken over by a bordering nation's army, and it seems they're preparing for an unannounced invasion. There's a fight of course, and this then leads to an all-out war, with the Lord and his forces acting as the main source of intel and a surgical strike unit, as they're the ones who have the best account of what's going on by their border. Only occasionally would they foray into larger battles (where similar to the Three Houses, you can see other fighters on the map in these fights). The missions are structured to where your character can do pretty much any of them, a sort of Breath of the Emblem if you will. Want to go and liberate a village? You can! Clear a bandit hideout? That too. Eventually you're tasked with joining in a large battle to aid in the defeat the general of the enemy army. As it turns out, the other faction's invasion has not yet truly begun. The war thus far was buying them time as they sought allies from other nations to aid them in the war. If they can get enough of those allies, the heroes' faction will surely lose. From there, the stakes become higher because the enemy side is trying to make allies and prepare a large enough force to overwhelm your character's nation. More local concerns like banditry would start to come up due to the chaos of war diverting warriors away from acting as a police force, but your can't always address them because of how the enemy army (armies, perhaps, if you dillydally enough) are pushing into your nation, and your characters have to help drive them back or risk enemy forces overwhelming the countryside, taking over towns and possibly even recruiting potential party members so you don't have access to them. Basically the fights are tactical as ever, you have to be strategic as you move about the world map and tackle objectives. Logistics, while simplified, would be an issue as well due to the return of breaking weapons, and there could be a price deducted from inventory however often as you move about to represent the cost of food and the like. Healing would also be an issue. Battles that aren't part of the main story don't heal you after the fight, and you instead heal by resting at towns or in the overworld. The overworld has a chance of spawning a negative effect or ambush, but is cheap. Towns cost more money for healing but haven't got the negative effects. Supports would be done in camps and towns. As for the Avatar, I would include a plethora of options. As for their personality, you may decide on dialogue boxes, and your main role in the story is to be a player's eye into the world. It's like Mad Max Fury Road, Furiosa is the hero, but Max is still a major character and is the one we view the story through. For customization, there would be skin tone, clothes/armor, facial features, hair, eye color, voice, height, sex, weapons (a Primary you can get an S rank in and a secondary you can only get up to a B rank in), and your strength and weakness. Speaking of weapons, while most would break, every character (except healers) would come with an unbreaking default weapon. For most characters, this would be a Bronze weapon or equivalent tome, but for the Avatar and Lord, they have Prf. weapons that're a bit stronger. The triangle would be the same as the GBA games. Skills would return, and units would have personal skills. Pair Up, I'm unsure about, personally, but I'd see no real harm in allowing it. I'd have Rescue be thing all units can do like in the GBA games, though. With all that said, I hope my concept is interesting, and I want to see what everyone else's are like.
  4. Something I just realized I hadn't thought of, what Skills could the Lords all get? Like combat skills. Maybe Sol for Lyn, Luna for Hector, and Aether for Eliwood? Also I'd give Mark Ignis. Obviously, these would be rather late game skills only gained after Class Change, but I realize that while the Lord usually gets Aether, there's three Lords so that could maybe give the chance for different skills.
  5. I'm fine with a fairly traditional Lord I suppose (swords, infantry, nobleman, blue hair, the like) but I wouldn't mind seeing one that's perhaps a bit stubborn and it leads to bad things happening. He's charismatic and strong and he knows it, but he's also inexperienced and it takes a hard-learned lesson to get him to realize it.
  6. I want to see romance, but maybe not for everyone. Kids, I'm unsure about. Avatars, I like them, but I'd like them to be somewhere between Kris and Robin. Maybe they can be like Max from Mad Max Fury Road, where Furiosa is the protagonist and Max is the viewpoint character.
  7. Ah. Will the skills have new animations? I always like seeing custom animations.
  8. How'd the sounds/music come out so clear? Also, are combat skills like Astra, Sol, Luna, or Adept coming in the future?
  9. Gryphon Riders could be made into a more balanced base class, maybe with a slight emphasis on Speed and the Falcon Knight can use Bows. Wyvern Riders would use Axes, Pegasus Knights use Spears, and that would leave the Gryphon Rider with Swords. I'd want both Rouges and Assassins, maybe Rouges having the option to use Bows, or having some sort of class ability to make Sword attacks at range like in Fe7x Immortal Sword. I'd want Summoners to return, hopefully well-balanced now, as well.
  10. I want to see other weapons from the series done in this style, like the Falchion (not the Men at Arms one), Yato, Ragnell, that sort of thing.
  11. I was wondering if there any tutorials on how to make a decent looking map, things like how to make roads, where to place villages, how to make grass look different, things like that. I found a tutorial on how to make mountains and while the pictures are small, it's quite helpful. Do you know of any similar tutorials? Whenever I look for FE mapmaking tutorials it includes things like how to edit the map into a game, but I'm not making a romhack, I'm just making some maps for DnD. To give you an idea of how amateurish my map is, I've posted a picture of my first map in the spoiler below.
  12. I'm sure there's a million threads like these but I don't want to necropost so here goes my attempt at making a thread like this. What if, say, FE made another remake, possibly on Switch, but this time for Fe6 and 7? While I made a wishlist thread a bit ago and I'd like to expand some of my ideas to fit with the Elibe duology. Firstly (and I suppose this is fairly obvious), I'd like to see Fe6 and 7 on the same cart, and for 6 to be the second generation of Fe7. Mark should still be playable I think. Why? Well, while he could be removed, I've asked friends about Avatar units and they seem to agree that Avatars are either good, or not a dealbreaker. Now, I wouldn't want the plot warping itself to accommodate Mark, but actual lines, the ability to fight, and maybe the ability to support with people, would be good in my book. He's a powerful and relevant character but in the plot, he's just another unit, and doesn't fill the role of Lyn, Hector, Eliwood, or Roy. Mark can have a kid because eh, why not? It's not like they'd be fighting the same war. Speaking of units, I want all units to be at least somewhat usable. For example, Wendy's bad join time and low bases cripple her versus Barst and Borz. What if her level was higher, for example? And of course, Roy should get a buff to his stats all around, especially his growths. Maybe also give him a promotion item earlier so he doesn't become useless for half the game too? I can't think of many plot/setting changes I'd want to see, but I think Lyn could somehow effect Fe6. On a related note to her, I'd give the player the option to start a new game with Lyn, Eliwood, or Hector, and also allow tutorial prompts to show up, or not. Fe6 can be started without having played Fe7 first, but no skills/stats will be inherited for units. This is all I have for no, I hope this thread sparks a lively discussion.
  13. I can't see the photos. Do I need to have a Photobucket account?
  14. I tried using it but I didn't know how to make the map into a .PNG or .JPEG. I tried putting it into Tiled but I think my file directory was wrong or something, I couldn't upload the map I'd generated. I also looked in the References part of the forums and downloaded the folder of GBA maps but I can't open them either. Is there a way around this? EDIT: As for how to make roads meander, is there a good tutorial anywhere on how to do this? Same goes for rivers, cave tiles, mountains, anything like that? I look up tutorials but it always tells me things about hex editing too, but I'm not looking to Romhack, at least not right now, all I need to know is making the map itself.
  15. So I'm trying to make some maps, but I put this in general rather than fan projects simply because I don't intend on making them for hacks or anything (although if I get decent and I put them up, chances are good that I'll let you use them). I just started an I'm needing a bit of help. Specifically, I need help fitting tiles together in a way that looks decent, and this goes double for mountain tiles, which I have zero clue how to fit together in a decent-looking way. Additionally, when trying to scale up the yellow cave tileset from Fe6, it didn't scale properly when i tried to scale it to 2240. Finally, below's my first incomplete, awful attempt at making a map, what may be done to make it better? If any moderators need to move this thread I understand, and any help on this topic would be appreciated.
