  1. The Falchion of Valentia is effectively a twin of the Archanean Falchion. It was carved out of a Fang from Naga, not expressly by naga herself as far as I know, so perhaps by duma or Mila. im kind of late to this party but I have cold hard evidence the darksphere comes from Naga- Tiki says the power of the five gems are fragments of Naga's own power. "Yes, there are five of them—Argent, Sable, Gules, Azure, and Vert. Each holds a portion of Naga's power. When mounted upon the Emblem, they allow one to perform the Awakening."
  2. That can technically be true once Hector promotes to Great Lord, you know.
  3. The BK actually reminds me mechanically and in terms of his role of Gharnef. The game made no effort to hide Gharnef was technically Medeus's underling; albeit an underling later revealed to be planning to stab Medeus in the back at the first optimal chance, but an underling nonetheless. It said as much in the Prologue, and Gharnef fights under the Dolhrian Empire's standard much as King What's-His Face-Go-Die-For-Me-Camus-Then-I'll-Surrender-and-Cower-Like-a-Cuck and Michalis do. Gharnef shows up halfway through the game completely invincible to quite literally chase your units around and terrorize you. BK does much the same; he shows up halfway through the game, fully invincible, to chase your units to the boats and terrorize you. You also need a hot shit weapon, Starlight and Ragnell respectively, to hurt them. Hardin has some shades of this with the same invincibility gimmick, but it's not made obvious until later on that he's being manipulated by/working with Gharnef. Similarly, And maybe somewhat humorously, Sephrain is said up front to be loyal to Ashera as most of Begnion is. The twist isn't that he's loyal to ashera, but that Ashera is antagonistic at all- FE9 and most of FE10 build her up as Tellius's Naga or Mila, even going as far as to rename Goddess Statues to Ashera Statues, and then you end up having to shove a sword in her throat. Fates also makes it pretty painfully obvious Garon is being controlled/manipulated by Anankos unless you're one of those mainstream people that did Birthright first. So I think the Black Knight certainly counts as the "major villain" of FE9, and to a mild extent FE10 as well- at least from the Greil Mercenaries' POV
  4. Est and Minerva have a support conversation in FE12 that mentions the Angel Ring and outright confirms from Minerva's own mouth that Est has been telling her stories of Valentia. its possible Est didn't, but I can't imagine she wouldn't mention the tiny detail of the entire continent being unified by Alm and Celica. So at minimum, Minerva seems to know of Alm and Celica for 99% certain. Or at the very LEAST, Minerva knows about Celica.
  5. M Night Shamalan's "You thought it was your former friend who was the problem but it's actually the evil wizard back from the dead" Super Turbo Edition, HD Remix. Featuring Malice from the BS Fire Emblem series.
  6. That's sort of ironically the problem here- Sorcerer is a class, but it isn't at all the classes of Merric and Arlen; thus it's severely out of place For the record: the Japanese name of the chapter is 魔道士二人 , while the Japanese name of mages is 魔導士 . Meanwhile, Sorcerers are ソーサラー . If it hasnt been changed already in a more recent version or something, it probably should be Two Mages- at any rate, definitely not "sorcerers".
  7. Is a name chart still gonna be made so we can keep up with everything from Echoes like Ladyblade and Anew? As well as Mamorthod Desert, Falchion name, etc? Gra's Sun Sets and other things? Or is it going to be added to the OP without being a separate thing? edit: confirmation of Mamorthod's name also, this is a suggestion, but Chapter 10 should probably be changed from "Two Sorcerers" to "Two Mages", seeing as how Sorcerer is an actual class in 11 and 12, and neither Merric or Arlen are in the Sorcerer line without reclassing (and there's only one plot critical sorcerer, Gharnef, so it has a lack of Two Sorcerers to refer to) edit: to be fair here there's also Etzel, but why in the name of Naga would they be mentioned in the same sentence in that particular chapter?
  8. Actually someone did the math up a few posts earlier; Celica was 7 when she went to Ram and 10 when Slayde drove her out. So she and Alm were together for 3 years, not "one month".
  9. Oh I can go on. Chrom and Sumia's dialogue was changed from actual meaningful conversation into one giant joke about pies. Walhart's support convos with Morgan got completely butchered to make Walhart into an asshole when he flat out isn't in the Japanese version, Henry got his entire character changed to start making jokes when he was just a sort of aloof character in the Japanese version, certain places like Tellius got insinuated to be outrealms when they're just flat out across the ocean in the Japanese version (this is big because it's one of the central sources of continuity), they completely removed an entire silent option for the avatar which resulted in Chrom getting less overall dialogue than the Japanese version, Lissa is supposedly alive in the future when she's 100% dead in the original text, which manages to cause a continuity issue because later on her being dead is a major plot point, there's even a few memes tucked into support convos that were hopelessly dated even when Awakening first released.... I could go on and on and on but id rather not have a wall of text, and the major issues Fates gets called out for all get ticked off by Awakening's localization, yet people don't seem to actually acknowledge that fact.
  10. Naesala the "evil swan king", "Exalted" Falchion, the "Exalts", and the "evil swans" who burned down serenes forest all say hi. Sounds more like you need to learn your lore and find out how badly they fucked Awakening up, particularly when it comes to Tellius stuff. Character names mean jack all when the plot is fucked. Treehouse is guilty of the same shit so don't construe it like that. One example is how they removed the confirmation that Corrin reincarnates into Kris and Robin and made it into subtext. Same shit, different assholes, that's all it is.
  11. To be fair I thought this would be whining about boat maps because I was half asleep. in other words I thought this would be a conversation about literal ships at first
  12. That's a laugh. 8-4 being faithful localizers. thats such a good joke I spat out my water
  13. Uh actually in SoV Grima is marked in the same way as Duma, as a "god" unit. Guess what's effective against god units while Lucina's parallel Falchion is not in echoes? if you guessed Marth's Falchion, congratulations you get an energy drop. Lucina's parallel Falchion similarly is unable to finish off Grima in Awakening, just as it is unable to finish off Grima in Echoes. YET, both alm and Marth's Falchions DURING the Marth era are two of the only weapons to be able to kill/defeat Grima. What does that tell you?
  14. So Saber X Genny is the new Seliph X Julia basically? to the guy above Edit: I just realized Tatiana's sole existence is to basically be a home wrecker, ruin Camus X Nyna, and fulfill the curse. She has literally no other reason to be a character and that fact just dawned on me. Its absolutely heart wrenching with the implication of what happens after FE12. Zeke X Tatiana is like looking at something you know is going to only end in pain and tears and Camus is probably going to really really regret this after FE12. And for some reason I am ok with this.
  15. The game is worth it by all accounts. as for the DLC, I can vouch for at least lost altars, Rise of the Deliverance, and Cipher Companions. Lost Altars adds skills and increases the stat caps as well as Alm's overclass being a particularly important connection to Awakening, Rise of the Deliverance adds Memory Prisms and Support Conversations to the main story; Fernand is also a playable unit in the maps added, and cipher Companions adds 4 new units total to the maingame chapters who all have full compatibility with support convos and full voice acting. Einherjar these are not, they're more akin to anna from Fates. Gold and silver marks are absolute hell to grind without the grinding maps though, and more importantly, Undaunted Heroes gives you the starsphere; not the same starsphere that's currently broken over in Archanea but hey that's a different topic. you can use this Valentian starsphere to increase the growth rates of any unit by 30% across the board. This kind of power can basically fix even Nomah if you wanted, and is a very VERY potent item indeed to have whenever you're grinding. At that rate, id strongly advise just getting the season pass since you can shave a few dollars off compared to buying the last 3 packs and the other two later. if you insist on not getting the "season pass" (which honestly is identical to the map packs of Fates and Awakening), then get Losf Altars, Rise of the Deliverance, and Cipher Companions. Nonetheless, Silver/Gold Marks and particularly the Starsphere are good incentive to actually get the grinding maps as well and at that rate you might as well get the season pass, which I feel is worth every single penny. on that note, I also want to direct you to the Alm and Celica amiibo 2 pack; it has some of the more interesting uses of the amiibo and I can see why in the US NoA only released them in a bundle; they work in tandem. The dungeons the amiibo unlock are also a slightly less reliable but more cost effective way to grind marks if you just want to get the three packs on their own, and we all sort of know the amiibo are gonna be used in either warriors, FE16, or both anyway so might as well get them now. tl;dr, Season pass is worth every penny and I'd advise getting the amiibo 2 pack of Alm and Celica on top of that, but you can do without the season pass and just get LA, RotD, and CC in a pinch without missing out on too much (aside from the amiibo stuff and eventual stat porting to the future FE games like with wolf link in Breath of the Wild). The only fully useless DLC pack I feel is Fledgling Warriors which doesn't hand out the starsphere itself, but it helps you get Silver Marks and the starsphere shards you need to complete the starsphere quest and if you get 4 of them you might as well at that point I feel.
  16. Literally the ingame text of the Japanese Awakening and the titles of Falchion's forms. The starting Falchion is known as the sealed Falchion ( 封剣ファルシオン , Sealed Blade Falchion) and the final Falchion bears the same title and just about the same stats as it does during Marth's era ( 神剣ファルシオン , Divine Blade Falchion). Marth's Falchion is referred to as such in both 3, 11, 12, 13, 14, and 15. This is just case number 45 where 8-4 manage to shit the bed with the localization on some level with continuity because the Japanese version is pretty damn explicit about this. It's power from Marth's era is called "sealed", and I really really shouldn't have to explain the ingame context of it literally taking the same name it had under Marth's hand again once it undergoes the Awakening. Also note Falchion's FULL power level is harnessed by Marth in FE11 and the fully realized Binding Shield does not a damn thing to Falchion. we can observe this in both gameplay and dialogue. The shield's integrity having anything to do with the sword's power in at the very least Marth's era is something we can observe to be fiction just by looking at FE11. The simpler explaination is that they just used the sword and shield to seal Grima in the table and uh oh, Falchion lost its power like all the other regalia did since then; we gotta go fix that so we can take care of Grima again.
  17. I do want to say that yes, it is confirmed Falchion lost power between FE12's ending and Awakening. The Falchion is even said to be "the Sealed Sword, Falchion" and that it's power is gone from it in the Japanese version, but 8-4 being 8-4, you can bet your ass they'd fuck that up. the japansese version literally says Exalted Falchion is the same level of power that Marth had- that's why Marth's era Falchion is localized as Exalted Falchion in Echoes. Exalted is a very very confusing and bad localization thing that 8-4 really should be slapped for doing but I digress; it's Japanese name was "Divine Blade Falchion", same title you see thrown around in Shadow Dragon and Shin Monsho HOWEVER, even with this in mind it's also possible the Blessing faded in much the same way as the Book of Naga and needed to merely be reenergized after all this time. In fact, I think that's the far simpler explaination is that Falchion joined the likes of Ragnell and the Naga Tome in losing it's potency with age, and the Awakening ritual literally awakens it once more.
  18. I explained where it was localized in my post. The chapter title appears in FE11 and it was localized as such.
  19. The term Exalted has nothing to do with the Exalt; it's induced by the localization because, to be blunt, 8-4 is shit and they wanted to make an immature pun about "Exalt". Either that, or they're implying exalts are named after the sword, but both Alm and Seliph are called exalts- meaning the first Exalt wasn't the first ever Exalt by any means at all in truth. It is, Indeed, called the Exalted Falchion by Echoes's localization, and it had the same term in Japanese. did anyone stop to consider maybe this has nothing at all to do with power and maybe more to do with the Naga tome being a much more suitable tool to deal with a dragon spirit stuck in a black magic tool than a sword? and the "Fell Dragon" magic is literally called EVIL dragon magic in the Japanese version; Fell Dragon is the localized form of evil dragon from Awakening onward
  20. @RedEyedDrake as an item in 11/12, it's just Falchion. It's referred to as shinken/Exalted Falchion by the text, it itself is not in 11/12. It is, however, called shinken/Divine blade Falchion as an item in FE15, which is what prompted the change and confirms Marth's Falchion was "Exalted". It was also shinken in Fates's Japanese version but was translated as just Falchion, as opposed to being Exalted Falchion as in Echoes. Alm's Falchion is just Falchion, the dialogue gives it an entirely different epithet- the Kingsfang Falchion, or the Divine Dragon King's Fang. The item itself for Alm is just Falchion, like with the item in 11/12. Shinken is dialogue only prior to 13, then 13 made it an item name to specify Marth's Falchion which was relocalized as Exalted. The fact that Marth's Falchion was localized as Exalted in Echoes is the ONLY reason this is even on the table; otherwise it would not even come into consideration, and it should not entirely override "divine blade", because we are still beholden to consistency with 11. Archanea being a Holy Kingdom is something else entirely unless Echoes actually called it a Halidom in the localization? And yes, when it is referred to as a "Divine Blade" in Shadow Dragon, shinken is used. That is officially speaking the original localization of the term before Awakening's localization changed it to Exalted Falchion. And to keep in line with shadow Dragon, it should be used at best interchangeably, with preference given to "Divine Blade" like in 11, but Exalted Falchion being used once or twice in reference instead. Not the entire thing being flipped to Exalted which would somewhat contradict Shadow Dragon if done for every example and not a select few. I should also mention divine blade is not capitalized in FE11's dialogue in spite of my autocorrect trying to tell you otherwise, the epithet is lowercase @joesteve1914 ALSO, the star shards may possibly be localized as Astral Shards in Echoes's Undaunted Heroes dlc. So that's another thing to keep in mind, but we won't know for sure until the DLC launches. @VincentASM wait... Katarina's Tome... it wouldn't happen to have the same kanji as Katarina's Book from Awakening would it? As in it could literally be a reference in name to the item?
  21. This patch has been quiet for over a month. When can we expect a Link arena text fix and/or numbers patch compatibility?
  22. Actually, both Alm and Seliph are known as "Holy Kings" which is literally what's localized as Exalts. So the term far predates Awakening chronologically the distinction Awakening makes is a fictitious one; the intention was the OPPOSITE in the Japanese version; the title of Chrom's Falchion was literally indicative that it was the SAME Blade and power level as Marth once had after the Awakening, again as noted in the etymology section, and the Awakening ritual had nothing at all to do with the first holy king. 8-4 was just being your garden variety brain dead translator and decided "durrrrrrrr lets equate the word "divine" to "Exalted". Analyzing the intent, yes, it was "Exalted" prior to Awakening, the name just had not a god damn thing to do with the first Exalt, and that's more because 8-4 is being kind of brain dead here and it was originally the Divine Blade Falchion in awakening's Japanese version, as it is in Shadow Dragon and Shin Monsho. Echoes corrects this somewhat by referring to the Archanean version as Exalted. us not calling it Exalted won't change anything because Echoes already went and called the pre Awakening Falchion the Exalted Falchion, so there's literally no point because it's already done by Echoes, which firmly establishes the Marth era Falchion as being the Exalted Falchion- localization only, as the terms were always the same in Japan and thus no confusion arose. tl;dr, 8-4 are bad localizers when it comes to continuity and wanted to make a shitty pun, which is what causes some confusion. Echoes outright calls the Marth era Falchion the Exalted Falchion, so we know for a fact the English relocalized title has nothing to do with the First Exalt canonically. the proper title is 神剣ファルシオン in 11/12, which is the same title the fully awakened Falchion Bears in Awakening's Japanese version- localized as "Divine Blade Falchion" in the English version of Shadow Dragon. It is, in fact, a proper epithet, same as "Blade of Light". In 11/12, this is TEXT ONLY, just like "Blade of Light", and SHOULD NOT be applied to the item name; like the Angel Ring, this is dialogue only stuff here
  23. That's probably what the title is rendered as by the original localization team and they just didn't pick up on it; it's kanji for the title is 神剣ファルシオン and I'm like 99% certain that that's what was used in those instances since it translates literally to "divine sword Falchion". In other words, I think you're staring right at the title just translated differently by the original team. Double check to make sure if you want, I'm pretty sure that's your ticket though. Just thought you ought to know. https://fireemblemwiki.org/wiki/Exalted_Falchion so there's your title at any rate I'm like 99% sure, I mulled this over with someone who had access to an FE3 text dump who if I remember right confirmed this is what they translated as "divine sword Falchion" like you're looking at. I'll have to double check if Blade or Sowrd is used in the FE11 localization, but it's definitely the same term Edit: yes, FE11 localized the term as divine BLADE. (Example 1: Cain: “My condolences sire. The king died valiantly on the fields of Gra. The traitors took from him the divine blade Falchion and gave no quarter to those of our soldiers who remained…”) The initial team just got it wrong/didn't think the title was significant at the time. So all of them should at LEAST be changed to Divine Blade, and you should consider referencing Exalted Falchion since it's the same term as shown by the etymology section of the above link. and also because that's what Marth's Falchion's moniker is localized as in smash and now more importantly Echoes. tl;dr the uses of "Divine sword Falchion" is, in fact, the epithet and the original fan translation team didn't pick up on that fact, so it should at least be changed to "Blade" and you should consider the Exalted thing on account of Echoes. I should clarify the epithet was a dialogue only thing- until Awakening used it to distinguish its ultimate form and the Marth Amiibos used it likewise, which made it really important suddenly, and then 8-4 decided to relocalize it as Exalted Falchion because why not.
