What do you think of him, as a character? When I was younger, I was a huge fan of the series. But I never went very in-depth on the characters and story...

I wasn't a big old school gamer, so based on my current experiences with him- all the sonic wii games and such- definitely NOT a fan. I've heard good things about his old school appearances

I like the classic 2D Sonic games. As a character, I love his Sonic Colors, Generations and Lost World incarnations. I never really liked his adventure personality that much.

But to be honest, Eggman is my favourite character in the entire series.

I was a big fan

Then fandom and subpar games happened

Exactly this. Both the story and characters are, in comparison to genres where those two aspects actually matter, awful. On the adress of Sonic as a character, he's a "surfer dude" stereotype as seen by the Japanese. Which is often either hilarious (Lost World, Colors) or awkward (pretty much every other Sonic game with a story).

Haha, that cutscene 4 is funny. XD

I've never played a Sonic game, but I do know Sonic and his gang from the TV show Sonic X, which I kinda liked. That's where I first saw them, in fact. I hadn't known they were oirignally from video games, I thought they were just TV show characters. XD

Sonic's an okay guy though, there's nothing really to hate about him. I remember Tails being really smart and inventing stuff. Amy was always gaga over Sonic. Knuckles was a bit of a hot head. I also remember seeing Cream the rabbit and her Chao friend Cheese. I also saw Rouge the bat in that show.

I would try a Sonic game, but he moves so fast and I'm never good in really fast gameplay. I also heard that like classic Mario, there's time limits on each level, but they're less lenient in Sonic. Errg.

I used to super like him, and I still admire his cheesily exaggerated free spirit thing. I agree though, Eggman is still the best.

Actually more lenient, I'd think. You have about ten minutes to clear each stage, and with how fast Sonic goes, you tend to do it in only three. The only times it's a problem is during some of the more complex stages...and I guess every game has like, one of those.

I guess if you're not good with fast things though, you'll still have some trouble.

Ten minutes is enough until you reach the inescapable barrel room in Carnival Night Zone.

I've always liked Sonic's classic design (I really dig the animation in the Sonic CD intro and the OVA) and his attitude is played out well enough to make for a fun character. I have no idea what he's like now though, haven't played a new Sonic game in ages.

Yeah, I think that even now that I am more grown up, I can appreciate the more childish details about it. It's kind of the beauty, about it...should replay the games.

I think the issue with time in sonic is that sometimes you get stuck in places and have trouble progressing, but don't necessarily die. Like the casino stages. In Mario, at least in the 2d platformers, if you don't make it past an obstacle, you have probably died.

Someday I want to play Sonic and the Black Knight.

I'm still a pretty big Sonic fan, both Classic and Modern. Despite my age, I grew up playing Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and Sonic Adventure so I've come to appreciate both sides to him. I can't say I'm digging his Boom look though.
