Tell him that you don't know the basic battle mechanics in Xenoblade Chronicles. in XC, whenever you move within range of an enemy, you will perfrom an auto attack every so often, I forget the exact amount of time. During battle, at any time, you can select these moves called arts, which will do more damage and can have various effects, like doing more damage when hitting from behind, bufffing you etc... arts have a cool down time, so you can't just spam arts all the time (not that you would do that with seven in particular), and you can have eight different art equipped at a time.
