1. Not all cardinals transformed, there are a few human cardinals during Silver Snow the final battle, all of them regardless if transformed, had minor crests.

2. There is no instance in the game someone changed their crest size in any circumstance, especially making crest smaller, so we can assume they were minor crest to begin with.

3. Aelfric, a cardinal can be viewed both as allied and enemy human prior to final battle in DLC, he had minor crests.

Touche. I forgot about Aelfric and didn't realize the White Beasts still had their crests. Though this does give rise to the rather ponderous question as to why Jearlt has a major one when all the people in the same situation as him have minor ones. Maybe it's because they did it ceremonial while his blood transfusion was to treat a life threatening injury and thus he literally got a more major amount of blood compared to a minor amount. And also why the hell only some of the cardinals transform instead of all of them. It'd make the most sense if the white beasts had major crests and thus that's why they transformed while the human cardinals had minor crests.
