[spoiler=Chapter 7, part 1][spoiler=The map.]fX7bgFf.png

In this map we're going to be fighting Grunia and Dragon (Grunia is the ground troops, Dragon is the air force). Remember Grunia? Two of its cavaliers showed up in Garda to fight us. Grunia is apparently an ally or vassal of Durhua, since its commander here is a general (i.e. sent by Durhua). I have no idea what Dragon is. Since they're fighting alongside Grunia, they're probably in league with Durhua as well. (Dragon = Dragoons.)

gOv0GvP.png

Inventory: silver lance.

I suppose this is the leader of Dragon's force here. Looks intimidating.

yEJkuFJ.png

Inventory: silver sword.

Grunia's commander isn't any less intimidating than Dragon's. Looks an awful lot like Mariones, doesn't he? (Hermine = Harmein.)

tMbYSDG.png

Inventory: iron lance.

(Paola = Palla.)

yfmuep1.png

Inventory: iron lance.

(Katua = Catria.)

pIiQzQK.png

Inventory: iron lance.

These three pegasus knights at the bottom of the screen are characters with identical stats and slightly non-identical portraits. Recruitable? I hope so.

Enemy data:

  • 1 archer, level 3, steel bow (the left one);
  • 1 archer, level 3, bowgun (the right one);
  • 1 mercenary, level 1, steel sword (the left one);
  • 1 mercenary, level 1, iron sword (the right one);
  • 1 thief, level 5, iron sword;
  • 1 dragon knight, level 1, iron lance;
  • 2 pegasus knights, level 3, iron lance;
  • Minerva (she’s the lower of the two dragon knights);
  • 2 armor knights, level 3, javelin;
  • Hermine;
  • Paola;
  • Katua;
  • 1 cleric, level 3, live;
  • Est.

Let's begin!

tK2IezJ.pngjmedS0D.png

A Macedonian knight? Hmm, I suppose the Dragons are the Macedonian air force then.

zwiFNDb.png

Princess? Minerva is the Princess of Macedonia?

Ta935XX.png1iCLGyK.png

your sister's safety.

...Princess Minerva's sister is a hostage of Grunia? So the Kingdom of Macedonia is being forced to fight? Hmm... maybe we should keep Minerva and her squad alive this chapter. I suppose we'll go rescue Macedonia's other princess eventually and they'll join us then. If they're staying put like Hermine is telling them, that shouldn't pose much of a problem.

gdMnbNW.pngY2RhMEK.png

You aren't going to defeat me with any plans.

ywdFbY6.png

Turn 1.

Our team:

UZwbatV.png1dlqW2V.png

See that little icon next to his name? That must be the Fire Emblem.

VNHxdTV.png

Inventory: iron sword, steel sword, knight killer, javelin.

YXhNE92.pngbwwaVBc.png

Marich starts the chapter on a good note.

JCwFkrx.pngU2342er.png

Almost...

ptfclS9.png

gained 1 wlv!

gained 1 speed!

gained 1 luck!

gained 1 HP!

Good, good. 9.4% chance.

TOgZZUV.pngClZzujl.png

Overkill.

yLadJcp.png

By offering stuff that's actually useful. I don't need any of this.

House time.

8bCsFsH.png

she has no choice but to fight.

Yeah, I got that.

fmOFrSJ.png

Already discussed that, sir.

Enemy phase now. The Dragons move out. I thought Minerva had been ordered not to fight us head on? ...What is their strategy?

NVkA6XS.pngco18Mwv.png

I forgot Sheeda got into this guy's range. I don't regret getting her into this guy's range.

TYSoKX9.png

Second turn. I'm going to withdraw into the forests so I'm better prepared for the Dragons' attack (if they attack).

Then at the start of the enemy phase, this happens:

GeESOYO.png

After this, Minerva, Paola, Katua and Est start moving towards the bottom of the map. Once they've reached the end of the screen, they leave the map. Paola, Katua and Est all go directly south, Minerva goes more southwest.

According to my sources the trigger for this event is the start of the second turn's enemy phase.

According to my other sources, attacking Minerva, Katua, Paola or Est results in all misses (both from your characters and from them).

The other Dragons stay though.

vHEtKvI.png74UrmUw.pngcTBMXJP.png

Barts, no.

In the new turn Gordon is going to prove his worth:

Da5ygVJ.pngFcmEkAw.pnguiS3kVu.png

gained 1 wlv!

gained 1 HP!

Gordon, no, that's a bad. 17.6% chance.

DSVPkIX.pngxmx89cy.pngBufHInV.pngEy31lbc.png

gained 1 speed!

gained 1 luck!

gained 1 defense!

That's one person who can make Glac proud. 5.9% chance.

dthpTgU.png

nOcFSJU.png

...I think I took this at the start of the enemy phase.

MSGSSvN.png0Bs6iWW.png

He deals four damage in return.

osyEvX3.pngJmm4S8T.pnghAs0vcq.png

He's on a roll.

jR4ID5G.png

And here's our new turn.

xduUCbO.pngxF6EbK2.png

My man!

V0JLcQs.pngvuswelC.png

Oguma! Bless you.

Julian opens the door with his thief key.

UuKEOSW.pngv5wrBMJ.pngTXoKlIt.png

I thought I'd attack with the iron sword. Because the mercenary has a steel sword, I was hoping Marth's attack speed would be higher. But nope.

WoH2OmT.pnghJkRHTQ.png

7FINDGL.png

New turn. As you can see, most people are already moving towards the castle.

Marth visits the village.

0NgNFqV.pngcwQDb02.png

loyal to Mediuth.

"Solo."

o8uISWu.png

Stone, huh? Fire dragon, huh? How about I give you this Firestone I got?

l7FIZ17.png

I'll remember that for the future.

Banutu = Bantu, and Chiki = Tiki.

6ac457r.png

Inventory: no item.

EZ3qnXI.png

I thought I'd lure out the thief with Navarre, but he doesn't do anything. He doesn't even run away.

GRUYErI.pngAeMgim9.png

jDNLyYn.pngHX8zbgb.png

He really should have though.

5Dir82X.png

Door Key!!

Navarre's inventory is full, so we send it to the storage.

gOip3Rf.png

New turn.

Kain lures out an armor knight. He's going to profit from a forest avoid bonus.

ohB4yIq.pngEpdx5lD.png

The avoid bonus didn't help.

pV6M5AU.png

New turn. Marth and Banutu are lagging behind.

a2AuFrA.pngXAH4RrW.png

Start making use of the forests' avoid bonuses already.

BPwruQG.pngoTvzzeU.png

J3XZ0yf.pngSVNThWz.png

Next time, we take down Hermine.

[spoiler=Chapter 7, part 2]grFspby.png

The first turn of the second part.

OIfGCbw.png7NL6a0M.png

Wendel does a good.

1qTYZae.png0nqK1Oe.png

Marich does a good.

d9S2euI.pngbfbNVRf.png3ImHboL.png

Navarre does a bad. Well, at least he took down Hermine.

basZmR5.png

Hermine has an amazing death quote.

iUyVRBW.png

Silver Sword!!

EP0j39x.png

gained 1 luck!

gained 1 HP!

Disappointing. 14.1% chance.

CicznEB.png0KUr19k.png

When you get an item when your inventory is full, you're prompted with this. We store the silver sword and are still charged that 10 gold.

28RsOVh.pngoIYTox6.png

Kain (?) takes out the cleric.

jFMlqFL.png

New turn again.

NpJF3Mt.png

Marth is slowly making his way towards the castle.

6QQb7Nb.png

Almost there.

And seize!

sYTXnV3.png

Tribe should probably read tribes, since he's about to tell you that there are three Mamkute tribes. Translation, translation.

5RSrqRe.pngkvbroa7.png

Dragon tribe Salamander.

Hey, wasn't that Chiki woman Banutu is looking for the sole survivor of the Narga? I wonder what happened to them...

dzfN9HL.png

the others attacked it.

Alright, go Narga!

HRj2CqH.png

and appear human.

W5SVr4F.png9Ibcov4.png

Durhua.

Well, Durhua already existed, it's a region. What Morodof is saying (but the translation patch isn't carrying over) is that Mediuth established the Durhua Empire.

xjXvwZx.png

Bad Mediuth!

3DLX0Zs.png

shining blade named Falchion.

Hey, the Falchion was mentioned in the opening, like the Fire Emblem.

2SInfcr.pngLg4lwCw.png

The Japanese script calls him Anri I. Details.

zLX2z4P.png

Uh-oh.

j3ES1TS.pngmF4OAVY.png

Well, we already have the Fire Emblem. I'm guessing we should go get the Falchion too, huh?

Well, it all makes more sense now. Mediuth is a badass dragon who is the emperor of the big badass dragon empire Durhua. No wonder Grunia and Medon sided with Durhua, they're probably scared to death. I wonder where we're off to next...

VcDVoGH.png

[spoiler=Death quotes.]We've already seen Hermine's death non-quote above. Now let's take a look at Banutu's death quote.

TsUhl7V.png

[spoiler=Boss battle quotes.]In later Fire Emblems, at the start of the first battle with a boss, the boss usually says something. In FE1, this phenomenon exists as well, except the boss doesn't talk the first time you get a battle with them, they talk the first time they attack you (i.e. on enemy phase). It is therefore possible to skip this altogether. I'll be going back to see what Hermine's battle quote is.

MSQvGS8.png

Now there's something I forgot to do in chapter 6... because Mariones also has a battle quote.

kFswlwX.png

"You seem to have a lot of fun." Wow. And we did indeed take his silver sword. :smug:

[spoiler=Reinforcement information.]If we had taken a little longer to beat the chapter, we would have had to deal with reinforcements. Reinforcements appear on turn 13 and are as follows (all from the forts in the lower part of the map):

  • social knight, lv 3, steel sword (northwestern fort);
  • social knight, lv 3, javelin (eastern fort);
  • social knight, lv 3, iron lance (northern fort);
  • social knight, lv 3, knight killer (southwestern fort).

Marth + 12 characters for this map.

  • 4 horsemen, lv 3, bowgun;
  • 3 armor knights, lv 3, iron lance;
  • Roger (second armor knight from the left);
  • 2 archers, lv 5, bowgun (the ones on the left);
  • 2 archers, lv 3, steel bow (the ones on the right);
  • Canaris.

n6V0ja3.png

Inventory: iron lance.

He looks recruitable. But by whom? Maybe the houses will have something to say about it? Otherwise I'm just going for Marth.

rKaH1xg.png

Inventory: silver lance.

The boss, just a regular armor knight. Canaris = Kannival

Let's begin!

TMqNjAe.png

Oh hey, that's the town with the rare items! That explains the number of armories here.

uwakNXj.png

He means the forts in the north.

iRXmUrP.pngKscEcpg.png

Please help!

yze9cOl.png

And so our first turn starts. Caesar and his colleague are the two mercenaries in Warren. Notice the distance between them and Marth. Caesar must have really shouted that opening conversation...

Let's look at our team!

Inventory: iron sword, rapier, steel sword.

We left Hardin behind. The choice was between him, Oguma, Wendel and Wolf.

YES!

RALLY RADD!

Inventory: iron sword.

Let's look at the shops.

EV5NYuE.png

The two vendors are identical.

MYpajiX.png

The three armories are identical too!

Okay, here's the plan: Oguma gives his iron sword to Caesar and retrieves a silver sword from the storage, Raddy buys a vulnerary and a steel sword, Lena drops her live to buy a live, Marich buys a fire, Wendel gives his freeze to Marich and buys a thunder and a live, Caesar buys a spare iron sword, Kain stores his javelin to buy a silver lance, Wolf retrieves a door key, the rest advances north, visits the houses and then retreats to defend against the enemy assault in a favorable defensive position. Sheeda will then drop her silver lance and buy a new one, and Marth will buy a door key.

B9WTGko.png

Arena. 2b3UvX5.png

GVTE6Na.png

New turn.

Abel visits a house.

NedPPNh.png

Then let's go there and rescue her! Once we're done here, of course.

pZpVxIb.png

Okay, thanks for the info, but... what about Rodger?

zat1UDy.png6r5tzyo.pngxrqZNnQ.pnghgGmKLO.png

Go, Kain!

mhZPT4W.pngpgfhoKZ.png

She's going to drop her live anyway, so she might as well use it.

Enemy phase now.

hj5tEhr.pngJLZCIzK.png

fMlUGHf.pnggrQDcaM.png

Marth has extra avoid from being on a hill. I had him equip his steel sword to be better able to fight the social knights, but didn't expect the horsemen to double him.

dcai2Tl.pngyjR8QwW.png

Zt8JOHJ.pngjJBNDdX.pngfOKJa44.png

MI1htZX.png

Alright, new turn.

cCOzwky.pngs34uw9r.png

...He did his best.

1lGv5k2.png0vUS7xV.png

And leaves the social knight just weak enough for Abel to take him out with one iron sword hit.

iDe9TOX.pngBNpOF8u.png

Excellent. 4.0% chance.

XXaYNCx.png

I hope this formation will protect Sheeda against the horsemen.

New turn. See that one horseman? I'm glad he didn't attack Sheeda.

upJ3P19.pngUBLG0uv.png

We retreat to a choke point and Marth gets his much-needed healing from Wendel's brand new live staff.

uv6qFq3.png6NXLTqX.png9DrqorH.pngDPkduLD.png

[spoiler=Chapter 8-2, part 1]I'm not going to show the whole opening conversation again. Evil Grunians, head for the eastern castle, 2b3UvX5.png, you know the deal.

BGyk40h.png

Well, here we are again. Turn 1.

i8tC5UV.pngLzYFJwo.pngCGL9btz.pngBJWFId2.pngL690uVf.pngQeffXEp.pngj88oFVl.pngAHE2bdb.pngedfoN0R.png

Well, here we are again. 2b3UvX5.png.

1hHYEvt.png

Here's the strategy: Kain is going to choke the point you see there. When things get too dangerous, he retreats behind the point Abel is choking below. Abel will have the support of bow users and magic users helping out with ranged attacks, healers helping out with healing, and Barst, a mercenary or Marth holding out on a nearby mountain (profiting from the avoid bonus). Meanwhile, other people can shop and fight in the arena. But I need to keep an eye out for recruiting Roger, when that time comes.

jqybhxN.png

The enemy is using the brilliant strategy known as "using only half your cavalry." The strategy is to perplex the opponent by employing a tactic that makes no sense.

fA32afv.pngSEI7VI5.pngI12szIw.pngYikkVjP.pngxEkhTp3.png

gained 1 luck!

gained 1 defense!

Marth shows off his worth. 4.7% chance of this level-up pattern.

kznpjlv.png

New turn.

xd72L4L.pngpNHyj0X.png

Wendel shows off his new live staff.

G85nPV8.pngDEq0crr.png1yz1irv.png9SBgJVq.png

Marth does more good things in the arena.

ldpaE07.pngeF3mbPW.png

And here comes the cavalry!

eijgUfh.png

He did 1 damage; forgot to take a screenshot.

dyvQ7WU.pngNZL8e4g.png

D25kHSE.pngm5TnL1g.png

ze8kAHK.png

New turn.

uYhVtvt.pngGLmIBRl.pngSthCUZR.pngjHGEvlX.png

Marth does more good things in the arena.

52F83o1.pngRYI0KoI.png

SL3SjOs.png

Notice how there's a horseman standing next to Kain, instead of that other social knight. The AI is really taking its strategy of trying to perplex me seriously.

j48Ue7D.png

KAIN, NO!

I had you use your steel sword to avoid you losing HP.

xF99ClR.png

Alright, I don't trust this situation. Send in the emergency squad.

KcR6IMH.pngPVRtWj2.png

The emergency squad does a fantastic job. Thanks, Abel.

8GoF3vI.png

gained 1 speed!

gained 1 HP!

That's not such a fantastic job. 15.6% chance.

R2pFuSe.pnguvEBLDc.pngLCzbQII.png

The other half of the emergency squad does something good too.

Now it's time for the enemy to show off their perplexing strategy again.

KaX3XkV.pngOjbUwRG.png

He actually did 1 damage; with his steel sword equipped, Kain is actually doubled by the horsemen now.

elALinB.pngs61pQX2.png

No lucky dodge for him this time.

jaGsY7B.pngWKFB9H8.png

This guy!

xHtZ2l1.pngqxqTANt.png

gained 1 HP!

Wow, that's worse than the one Abel got. 21.5% chance.

oMokmIo.png

Thus a new turn begins...

tHIly0n.pngGN770r1.pngbVoydJf.pngt2AIG4s.pnghTZEi2V.pngERXe1uV.png

Is Marth the new Radd? :0

5.9% chance for this level-up pattern.

QxM83H9.pnguTurPBB.png

Kain and Wolf retreat, and Abel takes over his job as choker of the point, but only because I wanted to kill that social knight. The advancing armor knights will be a problem, and I won't trust the situation without magic backup. Plus, I want Roger.

LNKqAqX.pngit6WJK0.png

Kain gets his much-deserved healing.

nYTIxUI.pngI8skQ8E.png

His job isn't to deal damage, his job is to choke the point.

CZ9cuKH.pngt8PGNwC.png

kc6ZuRu.pngVypoXA5.png

29wnqNC.pngWjXw4E9.png

And he does that job just right.

1g7cKfF.png

New turn again.

MA0eP9t.pngna3Syfg.pnglHKlyqE.png2MHFXIW.pngE6dKOKC.png

i16o8nd.pnguii1PZ8.png

0B26Sg9.pngJKVHAc6.png

Abel retreats to safety and gets his healing. Kain will be choking the point now. At his side are Marich and Gordin with ranged support, and Barts, on a defensive mountain position.

dmFSzZ8.pngbzXRofs.png

The enemy immediately wants to try out just how defensive his mountain position is. The bad news is that the horsemen double him. The good news is that muscular man is too muscular to die.

6NXgVID.pngNsP8HbB.png2ETrRcv.png

Well, didn't that mountain come in handy, huh?

Let's finish those horsemen off next time.

Barts isn't done showing off that he's awesome yet. He has a 5.5% of getting this level-up pattern.

This, on the other hand, is much less awesome.

aGrrzZW.png

Roger thinks Sheeda got hit on the head one too many times.

Best line in the game right there.

vgiOok0.pngCKYLFcU.pngV9zwEd8.pngiujoDOi.pngvtHF0R9.pngWd1PyMG.pngvpgU7lJ.png

Well, would you rather she stay and fight you? She's got an armor killer, you know?

gMZ6HYx.png2631J2z.png29PtZ4A.png

Either Sheeda is a really kind naïve person to go up to an enemy soldier on the battlefield to chat like that or she's really manipulative and is just trying to get people to betray their comrades and come fight for Marth.

t8WnpFo.png

His luck didn't get any better.

ezCZqGw.png

Another turn. Marth's iron sword is almost broken, so he's going to buy a new one. Same for Marich's thunder. Roger is going to buy an iron sword and a steel sword.

k0aAt4a.pngh8slDES.png

Damn, this kid is good.

al3xGPq.pngCpWkYqD.png

Meanwhile, our main force is approaching the northern forts. Abel lures out a social knight.

eH4fWgd.pngE1m08W4.pngiiYHGOn.png

And he does well.

Next time: the battle over the forts.

[spoiler=Chapter 8-2, part 3]sLARmrf.png

I'm back.

sBQBmeW.pngRHNC3xY.png

And so is 2b3UvX5.png

tYzqM6V.png

The heals.

Tb3fgJr.pngYF9NhjD.png2f0EJ1W.pngp3zk2Vk.png

Gordin and Abel team up, and Abel likes showing off his speed.

kWLB6Si.png

gained 1 weaponlevel!

gained 1 HP!

Well then... Abel has a 21.5% chance of getting this level-up.

9DJCT09.png

Battle of the horsemen.

l78bnHs.pngNlA7Ydr.png

Oguma!

p1Pfoer.png

Marth, Roger and Marich head back for the front.

nfy3b0e.pngqw4Pl4W.png9niaK6d.pngZHT1siE.png

2b3UvX5.png

Enemy phase now.

HsJXIlP.pngbQJj2PB.png

The battle of the horsemen is decided.

51bRQJe.png

gained 1 weaponlevel!

gained 1 luck!

gained 1 HP!

Wolf gets stronker. 5.9% chance.

gBVNxKk.pngzLQOvgD.png

And Oguma finishes what he started.

... I think I forgot to take a screenshot for the new turn.

bw7z2mU.png

More heals.

And a new enemy phase. We'll be facing a long string of reinforcements (social knights and horsemen in the west, armor knights in the east) now, it seems.

ewuprqy.pngHQOxc5O.pngj9ihCKg.png

*Applause.*

oEMhoeB.pngjGDJ15z.png

OiauJwB.png

New turn start.

ZA3qZGB.pnghdHY3jU.pngvItWylf.pngvl0Nv2N.png

He does it again.

9uMte2j.png

gained 1 speed!

gained 1 luck!

gained 1 HP!

And he gets a good level-up! Still, it's a bit disappointing to know that he has a 7.4% chance of getting this level-up, but a 9.4% chance of getting the same level-up with defense.

DeFXIGa.png02hEZuE.png

Wolf, no.

7USsBUy.png

This actually wasn't such a good idea, as Julian had to take 10 damage for this, and the social knight's still not dead..

1nUVfGH.pngLdXH6E6.png2qY1ZwK.png

Abel is the new Sheeda.

LcGC3DR.png7se0RP5.png

Oguma fixes Wolf and Julian's mistakes. I don't like how low his HP is getting though.

PhhunZr.pngW0MLx5V.pngsNryyYu.png

Kain and Navarre team up.

w15zXoH.pngnAs5mwR.png

Barts does a bad.

Oc5tCMx.pngv1dvFg5.png

gained 1 luck!

gained 1 defense!

Woohoo, defense! 1.6% chance of getting this level-up (I feel so special now).

P4I8xeV.png

New turn. For some reason, the latest mounted reinforcements stay on their forts.

E8rinjR.png02FIRbn.pngsgHSuIS.png5vKiLTL.pngmCgVjk5.png

gained 1 HP!

Muscular man becomes a lot more muscular. 14.1% chance of getting this level-up too, this guy is a beast. Too bad axes suck.

B2DtRa8.pngbux7qs6.png

No, stop this.

jk4GkKO.pngHCS1y3h.png

Caesar fixes Sheeda's mistake.

NyUKVt6.png

Raddy is awesome in the arena again; I'm getting bored of screencapping it.

aouqIts.png

On the enemy phase, Abel screws up. :/

YWYP8Kr.png

New turn. The cavalry still stays put.

gzletS4.pngUNbdOu8.png

Muscular and dodgy? Good going. To be fair, he is on a mountain.

wA38mho.pngcbiNIMP.png

This is not what you're supposed to do, Wendel.

evghrZ6.png

gained 1 luck!

This is not what you're supposed to do, Wendel.

12.5% chance too. Fortunately he's a bishop, so he can't be bad.

oLaf8mW.png

This was followed by more arena success that I was too lazy to screencap. And Raddy's iron sword broke.

Enemy phase now.

6Oiy4Sb.pngpOp1wW2.png8BLIN4l.png

Really, Marth? That's all? 13.7% chance.

DBIW9IR.pngGAaj0KC.png

Erm... I'm afraid I'll have to restart the chapter again.

YcMBaXS.pnglzbMOy9.png

IGh5Ii7.pngg5nj2rC.pngaMRxJ5o.png

...Or not.

vpEtYZl.png

gained 1 luck!

gained 1 HP!

That's much better. 5.5% chance.

ukujoaC.png

And here's our new turn.

CWlX0aQ.png

New turn, new heal.

Raddy buys a new iron sword for himself and a rapier for Marth. He and Rena start making their way towards the battle. Meanwhile, enemy phase.

sLmNzWL.pngww70Vsf.pngwBmAMMy.pngPFIfYAQ.png

Marth too OP.

NLAokfL.png

A new turn again. The armor knights could have gone for Barts too, but the AI's Marth prioritization is crazy in this game. Either way would have been though; Barts would have dealt less damage, but he would have had a higher avoid chance, due to being on a mountain.

86Hj0xH.png

Heal. Marth takes up a defensive position on the mountain beside Barts.

On enemy phase, Marth kills an armor knight (which I forgot to screencap) and gets this level-up:

1YGDx3p.png

6.3% chance.

uRSI6zT.png

This guy...

OyGBRHg.png

And Roger finally manages to lure out a social knight. The guy does 1 damage to him.

Next time, the battle over the forts continues!

Here we are again.

QiRGmkL.pngFqU5fsT.png

Marich and Barts team up.

QLiSv0P.pngJgUFmIw.png

Barts takes unneeded damage.

s9IesU9.pnggLgEsyd.pngBbE8469.pngdKefv5V.png

Marth shows off his awesomeness.

fJCCt3V.pngGDZ9a32.pngB4RAKSg.png

Wolf takes down the social knight.

y8nmvfH.png1Y7y1Y6.png

New reinforcements on enemy phase. This armor knight heads straight for Marth / his doom.

CgNriXG.png

Marth gets a mediocre level-up (14.1% chance).

lUXXk9Y.pngMMQu3Yg.png

The other armor knights heads for Barts, who continues his unlucky streak.

P7pubPv.pngQkP2LUw.png

Roger does an excellent Barts impression.

SQiDiFx.png

New turn.

zmNUnvk.pnglUqvaMm.png

Marich fixes Barts' mistake.

uL7kujY.pngxXyFpYn.png

Wolf, yes!

rVx0zHT.pngH40Vk5t.png

Gordon, no!

maEs2cW.pngaB2i6o9.png

Luckily we still have Roger.

8nfpBzj.png

Enemy phase now, more reinforcements appear. Marth and Kain prevent the armor knights from spawning, as they keep the eastern forts occupied to heal.

HGApia3.pngQPZxLgO.png

The tides of fortune become reversed.

rClDyqQ.png

A new turn starts again.

fGTSGAF.png

h2nrSFS.png

eIaAQjr.pngz9xcB7G.pnggd9rzRk.png

Roger gets stronker. 7.4% chance of this level-up.

55jzZva.png

Kain leaves his fort to get some quicker healing. This means Marth will face another armor knight on the enemy phase.

7fHuqza.pngvVjrclg.png

Aww.

vn9oDYA.png

pJ3PlGu.pngQ4yXYc6.png

PPKdDZM.pngptVqRxL.pngpnH2LUu.png

Oguma and Gordon display a fine bit of teamwork.

RmybiYj.pngsEGcudX.pngySIPrIu.png

gained 1 defense!

And Marich gets thwompier (7.8% chance at getting this level-up).

aJ7c6tD.png

Julian gets healed, player phase ends and more reinforcements arrive.

au0y88p.pngP5viAQl.png45jPMJ0.png

Yay.

LyOQgv4.png

Wow, attacking Gordon at close range, what a dick.

DS0Rr7E.png

That's what you get for being a dick.

1nhi7ct.png

It's like they're trying to play it smart, but fail.

0aSIBz5.png

A new turn begins.

GAqj1lO.pngErp97be.pngsWruCHG.png

Kain does a Barts.

ipxSqwJ.png04HSDxb.png

gained 1 speed!

That's actually a pretty good level-up. 7.8% chance.

keNnW87.png1QFLoMF.png

Why does everyone keep missing?

5hMUBvU.pngTorZeuD.png

Barts, funnily enough, is the only one who doesn't pull a Barts.

gained 1 wlv!

gained 1 speed!

5.9% chance.

MddjBpE.pngtErsxl1.png

16wPPbQ.png

Here come more reinforcements.

9nRTk7w.pngW62kDVh.png

[spoiler=Chapter 9, part 1]So last time, we tried to start our liberation of Akaneia (I think), but due to all the Grunians and mountains in our parth, we withdrew to Peraty, hoping to find hospitality there.
Peraty's king, Manuu, is rumored to have Mamkute blood. If this is true, he may have sided with Durhua and turn against us.

[spoiler=The map]3-capture_20120505_214_stitch.png

USHipES.png
Inventory: iron sword, steel sword, kill sword, iron sword.
olQyZsZ.png

I originally wasn't planning to bring him in (I would have brought Raddy or Roger instead), but then I decided I want dragon powers on my team.
YKhsEpv.png
Inventory: iron sword, steel sword, iron lance, javelin.
It was either this guy, Raddy or Roger. Hardin's stats are better as of now and he's more mobile than these two competitors.
If you've looked at the map, you'll see that there are two ways to the castle: a long way, around the treasure thing (hall? room? building?), or a short way by opening the door right next to the treasure building. Marth needs to head east to reach the village, and there's a chest and an armory in the east too, so I'm going to split my forces. Our cavalry, air force, Wendel and Marth will be taking the long way around, the rest will take the short way.
Marth visits the village just before the thief does.

Hey, this George guy is a pretty nice fellow.
He also has no right arm. Makes archery a bit difficult, if you ask me.

After some inital success in battle, Abel screws up.
Sheeda visits the house.
0QErkDZ.pngd51tTvt.png
You call that treasure building a castle? Well, anyway, all the more reason to take the long way.

Wow, that devil axe does a lot of damage. Kain does just as much damage in return though.

xTKqrFx.png

Yay!

QnjbXr1.png

gained 1 speed!

gained 1 HP!

Less yay.

Kain takes revenge and gets the devil axe as a reward.

Not bad, Abel, not bad.

Xqyd7G1.png

Muscular man, why hast thou forsaken me?

qwg49Q0.png

+1 skl.

This guy is way underleveld, and then he gets a level-up like this. Oh well, at least strength is nice.

EedIJeE.pngyBSItoe.png

He was off to such a good start, but didn't finish the job. A tragic tale.

d0xW190.png

Like I said, a joke.

Most of the enemies are dead now, but the ones that remain all start to flee. Needless to say, we're chasing them down. Except for Julian; he turns around to get to the treasure building.

hzlyES9.png

+1 wlv, +1 HP.

Well, that's a bummer.

cnhrPVX.png

+1 lck, +1 HP.

Not exactly smashing either.

FNyFv7T.png

Hello from the other side!

Our western force gets to Manuu. Marich weakens him with thunder, and then I send muscular man in with his iron axe to finish the job. I wonder how great of a defense bonus a fire dragon has?

ejipQt2.png

This was supposed to say Barts did three damage. That means fire dragons have a really big defense bonus.

4aY9ifG.png

This was supposed to say Barts dodged.

zZ9ChNY.png

... Disappointing.

Manuu counters on enemy phase, and starts with this:

0x9v8k7.png

Barts survives Manuu's might, and Marich goes in for the kill.

B4LDr2p.png

I am in awe of your might, great Manuu.

0CYvlFU.png

Door key get.

uYbmQ6m.png

+1 wlv, +1 HP.

dkBUSMR.png

Oguma decides to have mercy on the last remaining enemy.

We'll probably be seeing reinforcements from the forts down below sometime soon though. What else would be the point of forts on tiny islands only pirates and fliers can reach?

Uo87wBe.pngD0OyUzB.png

With all the enemies now dead (yes, Oguma's request for mercy on the cleric was denied), Julian nabs some treasure.

Marth heads east to get the dragonslayer; George goes to the armory to get himself a bowgun and Barts a hammer (because his iron axe is nearing the end of its life, so just in case).

Then suddenly, pirates!

4NdsIkC.png

But George doesn't give a fuck.

iErcj49.png

Wolf opens the door and Marth takes the dragonslayer. Now all that's left to do is fend off the pirate reinforcements until Marth gets to the castle.

ICxWNkn.png

These hand axe pirates are still a joke.

rqZ2rop.png

+1 wlv, +1 hp.

mmIdUvV.png

And George still doesn't give a fuck.

2kVB705.png

Still a joke...

See Hardin's low hit though? One advantage these hand axe pirates do have is that they can attack from the sea, either without my units being able to reach them or, when they can reach them, with a big avoid bonus.

JOriulE.png

George still doesn't give a fuck though.

83FsbGS.png

Where have I seen this before?

xwD6S76.png

I don't remember who this was, but I love him.

HrrKssT.png

Ah, a familiar sight.

FyCkE0D.png

You should have thought about your hit rate first, buddy. This guy actually has a hammer, but Oguma is on a mountain.

TiiM9s4.png6h3BBnv.png

To make up for his failure earlier, Julian now compensates with overkill. And so our tragic tale comes to an end... or does it?

72rL1oX.png

It does not, it just gets a new protagonist.

1cdJBG0.png

Not this guy though, he rules.

He gets a blank level-up though.

5MUIZY4.png

All hail Gordon II!

agG8Byn.png

I'm starting to feel like I should show you the instances where Navarre doesn't dodge these guys instead of where he dodges them.

MXXGdTY.png

Like here. (Okay, that's Oguma, but still, that's some bad luck...)

uUEt4U3.png

No one touches Julian though.

gfpieCv.pngadw6CrT.png

Strength and defense, nice.

OZcPa6q.pngayVNCZV.png8kYxHab.pnga67mctS.pngvL6ESjO.png

A fragment from the hall of fame.

FWTBiSU.png

Sheeda, why?

AGxv3KG.pngF3hztpx.png

This guy is starting to get ridiculous.

SSHg5B0.pngHrISlnw.pngY3czZrU.pngvIOMSHG.png

Nothing out of the ordinary here.

ozh55Fw.png

And now the tides are reversed.

Marth is getting close to the castle, but he's not quite there yet. The end must wait for the next update.

[spoiler=Chapter 10]This time we're going to rescue Princess Maria of Macedon.

[spoiler=The map]1-capture_20120511_186_stitch.png

5lvUS0Q.png

Guarding the castle is Zhukov, another manly man.

Here we also have Minerva.

Maria is here in the prison.

It looks pretty straightforward: free Maria, recruit Minerva, defeat Zhukov, seize castle.

This is where we start. Let's take a look at our team.

Inventory: firestone.

Inventory: iron sword, steel sword, iron lance, javelin.

SuNM7tB.png

Inventory: bowgun, steel bow, silver bow.

Wolf and Rena will not be participating in this battle. George is simply a lot stronger than Wolf, and Wendel does everything Rena can do, but he can do it better and he can do more.

Gordon and Oguma head towards the storage; I'm going to try out the goddess icon on Gordon and I'm giving Oguma the dragon killer. Everyone else heads towards the prison.

q9sJWNx.png

The dragon knights and pegasus knights all head east, but, curiously enough, Minerva takes the western route.

The thief heads into the castle to try to steal the treasure. Sheeda goes after him, and Abel and Kain chuck their javelins at him. I'm surprised both their attacks hit. The thief is dead now. As for Kain:

OrpFdQg.pngVTVum2c.png

Good boy.

py5KUhu.png

The Grunian air force is catching up on Oguma and Gordon, who are lagging behind due to their storage visiting. Oguma has a dragon killer and Gordon has bows; they're reinforced by fellow bow user George, so they should have plenty of power.

VaKJhgm.png

Ladies and gentlemen, here we have the hero of the LP.

8ERgLCY.png

Such terrible stats, but still such a hero.

JFgWgGP.png

Unfortunately that's all there is to this level-up.

wpkId3X.png

Get better level-ups please. :(

D46ITyp.png

Meanwhile, our cavalry is already inside the castle/prison.

HLLRftN.pngZyNhJV3.png

Very good, very good.

XFuQIlt.png

Sheeda is still stuck with her base strength of 3, and it shows. This is her damage output with an armor killer. :/

fuDHch0.png

Fight on, brave hero.

AxrciMB.png

Oguma is much less of a brave hero - look at how bad that pegasus knight's hit is and marvel at the fact that Oguma got hit by this 3 times in a row. Anyway, Oguma and his bow buddies proceed to defeat what's left of Grunia's air force.

jJCbo6T.png

The sniper in the castle was quite annoying; he did a ton of damage to Barts, but due to his 14 speed, it was almost impossible to get anyone to double him. Marth ended up finishing the job and sending his silver bow to the storage. I wonder if 7 weapon level is high enough for a silver bow...

6r0HbGP.pngqahiFMo.png

Barts, I thought we were friends. :(

Ul3oA4W.png

Julian goes treasure hunting. Also, Banutu is blocking the entrance to the castle/prison, so Minerva doesn't accidentally go in and get herself killed.

kUxEMTh.png

Excellent translation. The goddess icon increased Gordin's luck. And yes, 7 weapon level turns out to be high enough for a silver bow!

L0qOCx5.png

Another blank level-up for Banutu.

kHjG0fG.png

Marich!

OpJHwBR.pngLBkkER2.png

Kain too fast.

bqPQafU.png02Oklod.png

Eh.

2ZWmSKs.png

Yeah, that's right; I left the right chest unopened so Marth wouldn't have to wait for days until Julian showed up to free Maria.

Marth then talks to Maria.

re44csh.pngGygRSmR.pngISIOeCo.png

Maria get!

jDKqEhl.png

This is probably even worse than Rena.

WcrWpxS.png

Maria.

rm5TVM7.png47LzTad.pngQPOMqUv.pngkEe0DTW.pngkdEZA6z.png3LRU9Fn.png

And that's the second Macedonian princess to join us in this chapter. Her recruitment could have been FE1's equivalent of Xavier/Douglas, but fortunately Minerva is smart enough not to attack us while she's still an enemy. Also, notice how she has a new portrait now.

e0rr81q.png

Minerva's not bad, but any trained pegasus knight would outclass her. By the way, her inventory is enriched with a thunder sword once you recruit her.

While Marth, Maria, Julian and Minerva are still hanging around in the prison, the rest of our army is already in the town, shopping and visiting houses.

This is the house on the right:

GEArLqz.pngpdifMjf.png

This has to be the most blunt old guy in the game.

This is the village on the left:

kjQnqNZ.png

Well, Sheeda's armor killer is running low on uses, so I guess she should get that thunder sword we took from the chest.

fob5r2s.png

I thought we'd not exit the prison from the north to prevent having to fight the hero, but here he comes anyway.

8eZTXmj.png

Oguma, make me proud.

E0lb9Ag.pngWpK9apU.png

Oguma more than redeems himself for getting hit by all those javelins. This is amazing.

ey32eAJ.pngmqf9TuK.png

Speed is nice, I guess?

ImBwqwP.png

Julian finally opens the right chest.

FeaAxj1.png

Our dragon kills the hero. He leaves a hero proof, whatever that may be.

5wOzR1U.png

Reinforcements have arrived! Marth will be fighting them; hopefully from the fort, otherwise from a forest. Minerva is standing ready to aid him, but she won't join him just yet; there's horsemen among our enemies.

Meanwhile...

iOePKA3.png7pztxcg.pngN79h8fI.png

Get rekt, Zhukov.

ffV7KpR.png

This one's also for Gordon.

JyiRGol.png

Marth couldn't make it to the fort, so he'll have to fight from the forest.

uCAdrPu.png

As his opponents barely damage him, he kicks their asses.

n0oyuwu.png

... Speed is nice.

BybA4nX.png

Minerva will have to stay back, as I don't want Marth to leave his forest to face the horsemen. Julian and Maria are fleeing to town (for shopping purposes), as the rest of our army hurries to come to Marth's aid.

vZWG3vh.pngNM4n0xt.png

Typical Marth.

VLk0EoM.png

Typical Marth.

BAq7amC.pngIONFX9K.png

Power!

NH7i2E4.png

With the horsemen gone, Minerva can finally try out her thunder sword.

qJikhoE.png

Go home, Grunia.

HiIliaB.png

This was Gordon.

We defeat the reinforcements and, after a long march, Marth takes the castle.

i38CLYl.png

Yes, some blunt villager just told us about him.

iKWupkW.pnglaZ9mKA.pngJu9fGZd.pngMjnVNDX.png3On2W7J.png3FLbFeh.png

in place of Miroa.

Hmm, I wonder if this conversation will have anything to do with the events of the next chapter?

[spoiler=Some notes on Maria and Minerva]If you free Maria from prison, she'll start moving towards Marth and she'll talk to him when he's in range. Minerva will not attack your units; she'll simply move towards Marth. She'll talk to him after you've recruited Maria. She will not change her behavior even if you attack her or kill Maria. She drops a thunder sword if you kill her.

Some enemies will flee to Maria like to any other cleric to receive healing; however, she won't heal them.

[spoiler=Death Quotes]aQ2DqoJ.png

O2TroXL.png

Note: both Maria and Minerva have no death quotes if you kill them as enemies.

[spoiler=Reinforcements (arrive on turn 16)]

[spoiler=Chapter 11][spoiler=The map]1-capture_20120523_184_stitch.png

EeQ13Al.png

This mamkute here is Shozen. Inventory: firestone.

4RuACJE.png

One of the shooters on the castle is Jake. Inventory: quick rain.

[spoiler=Enemy Data]• 6 mercenaries, lv 3, steel sword;
• 1 mercenary, lv 1, iron sword;
• 1 shooter, lv 3, thunder;
• 1 thief, lv 5, iron sword;
• 1 horseman, lv 3, iron bow;
• 2 pegasus knights, lv 3, javelin;
• Shozen;
• Jake;
• 1 shooter, lv 1, stone;
• 1 sniper, lv 1, bowgun;
• 2 social knights, lv 3, iron lance;
• 1 social knight, lv 5, javelin.

This chapter doesn't look very hard. Go to the town in the lower right corner of the map, defeat the ruffians, visit the village; then, attack the city in the upper left corner of the map, defeat the Grunians, seize the castle.

It'll only get difficult if the city's defendants come charging at us and large numbers of reinforcements show up from the forts.

r60l0MQ.pnguYHfyQw.png

I'm guessing that's the capital or something.

ZnFUqly.pngar0DaFj.png

Let's go!

Here's our team:

Inventory: iron sword, steel sword, iron lance, silver lance.

7MIQz4h.png

Inventory: bowgun, silver bow, steel bow.

The pegasus knights come right at us, but the other Grunians stay within the walls of their city.

2lJrQU5.png

Isn't the AI in FE great, guys?

K40YYqh.png

Unsurprisingly, George and Gordon will be taking care of the pegasus knights.

TJSaXUB.png

+1 weapon level, +1 HP. I wish he'd get strength.

Ckmxcge.png

+1 luck. Typical pegasus knight level.

l895VwZ.png

+1 luck, +1 HP. Level-ups like these are why I appreciate social knights.

ygM7hPe.pnghJY8mPc.png

Julian is apparently a social knight.

ycjoomO.png

+1 luck, +1 HP.

449KGPu.png

Well, now that we've defeated the ruffians, all that's left to do here is visit the village, five shops and a billion houses.

ThFPA7a.png

I didn't know iron swords were considered rare.

Seriously though, are rapiers and silver lances rare? They're pretty readily available in this game.

twuKTbT.pngnXdtutY.png

lY7Fj0n.png

Wasn't the translation patch made by a Dutch person? It shows here.

50NsX8j.png

Hey, wait, you're the lady who always saves the game for me! Oh, and Jake is one of the bosses in this chapter!

iS57fmY.pngSLahKnj.png

"Only talk to girls"; read as: "only talk to Sheeda."

3DPGFRO.png

Oh hey, it's another one of those blunt villagers. I wonder if she's related to last chapter's "But Miroa's dead now" guy.

QThsKOr.pngM34TdZo.png

Don't worry, I only update this LP once every few weeks, so there's plenty of breaks in between the fighting.

0gd9o6l.png

the bow of fire, Partia. The rock piercing lance, Gradius and the legendary sword Miracle.

nh2FKpU.png

+1 speed, +1 luck. Hardin visited the arena.

Marth visits the village:

QfmQki2.png

Oh hey, look, it's a recolor of this chapter's boss (who is apparently King Manuu's identical twin).

aesh00v.png

get out of here!

Zf9HQQv.png1rCgOW0.png

I don't think slaves can just "return home". Especially not child slaves.

5TU9L5f.png8GYeruw.png

See?

W0m11EF.pngdh4yzwi.png

I told you we'd meet her this chapter.

Cw9EaIp.pngWcS1fPd.pnglCKX07D.pngrz7wSOE.pngGiWFmdq.pngFqdFwmY.png

Linda get.

B9QZK9y.png

And she changed into another outfit very quickly.

Inventory: Aura.

Then, after a long and boring march:

LkgRRdr.png

Shooters (better known as ballisticians) are very different in this game than in other FE games. First of all, ballistae have 2 range, not 3-10. To make up for this, shooters have high defense. For reference, Abel's having trouble damaging this one with his silver sword.

n3g7nw6.png

Now that we've attacked the shooter, the other Grunians come to join the battle. It will take a while before we can get into this city.

R0Kybow.png4xgOAlp.png

0LbWA7Z.pngcDcF0Md.png

These two had almost identical level-ups, and they're good ones too.

Manuu - I mean Shozen comes out to attack Barts. Barts dodges his attack, counters and:

BXpK55I.png

Hooray for muscular man!

0URTYNv.png

There's really no other reason for me to do this than BATTLE OF THE DRAGONS!!!

Banutu did 2 damage, Shozen did no damage, then Banutu doubled but missed.

kzW2sQF.png

But Banutu did leave Shozen just weak enough for muscular man to finish what he started.

UW8Ba4o.png

And he takes a power ring! Yay!

7MaxVtf.png

That one social knight dropped his javelin. Pretty cool, I guess?

drLyvld.png

+1 speed, +1 HP.

Come on, Oguma, I believed in you.

cepgR3s.png

I'm waiting for my magic users to catch up because there's no way the others can properly take down two shooters on a castle.

svicoHb.png

Oops, Jake moves, I didn't foresee that. He also has a very interesting pre-battle quote.

Sheeda talks to him.

TrU1y59.pngRkxZW9G.png

"It's dangerous to be here," smug smile.

k4H1zOQ.pngem43knN.png7wma7jT.png

"Anna will stay with you if you fight for your country."

"Alright then, I'll start fighting against my country now."

That's one of way breaking up, I guess.

TyYb2St.png

Nope, I'm not fighting this shooter.

9syMuC9.pngMeZmNkx.pngFxOiRif.pngPF3SJg5.png

Yay, a rescue mission.

[spoiler=Death Quotes]Be4nbDN.png

And Jake doesn't have a death quote.

[spoiler=Chapter 12]This time, we're liberating the palace of Akaneia.

[spoiler=The Map]1-capture_20120601_153_stitch_-_Copy.png

41gBu2F.png

The bishop on the throne is Bozen. He's a bald Mariones in a bishop mantle instead of knight armor. He has a volcannon, which is known as bolganone in the localized FEs.

3YeFByn.png

Generic boss over here is the leader of the SS paladin near the treasure chest; he's occupying an armory. He has a silver lance.

This is actually not the first boss named after a Nazi commander; we fought Canaris in chapter 8.

:(

cjSvWvZ.png2ybbGNi.png

I like how calm and determined Midia is in all this.

RWaF81e.png

Who's Astria?

ndNTUIb.pngzuUogxZ.pngZ2Vn63b.pngVtGlAQg.png

Never give up!

So we've got a bunch of Akaneian soldiers locked up in the prison in the northwest, with a mage and two archers nearby who'll try to kill them. We need to rescue them.

Now, let's look at our team.

3Tc8iaT.png

Jw88Yq6.png

Inventory: firestone, hero proof, pure water, vulnerary.

hmVpyWp.png

Inventory: thunder, live, reblow, M shield.

As you can see, we needed to leave a couple of units behind this time. Abel and Hardin, as duplicate cavaliers, and Oguma, as duplicate mercenary, were the first choices; George was the other, as Gordon already covers our bow usage.

fOSGcku.png

Navarre and Sheeda take on the thieves while the rest rushes to save the prisoners.

Hidpl1A.png

+1 Lck.

Well... he got something.

rHoFfrc.png

The brilliance of the AI. This archer would rather attack Mishelan for no damage than do 2 damage to Midia.

i7s0BpW.png

This was one of the thieves.

032TG0u.pngAAqYssA.png

Sheeda gained strength! :newyears:

xIFqkCJ.png

This was the other thief.

xPab5kM.png

+1 Lck, +1 HP.

Navarre so speedy.

eJTH1s1.pngJNGQ87v.png

Woohoo!

BxKnpqN.png

Time to save the prisoners.

vtoENnF.png

+1 Spd, +1 HP.

Kain is the best.

nXhjr1j.png

"Oh shit, the Altean army is here! Should we attack them? No, wait, I have a better idea! Let's do no damage to the prisoners! Haha, that'll teach 'em!"

h882paS.png

Meanwhile, two mages are creeping on our army's rear. One of them has an elfire, so he's actually quite dangerous.

Blgky38.png

Jake takes his elfire.

daWlhZE.png

Kain, why? :(

zf3q7ke.png

FREEEEEEEEDOOOOOOM

yvGOQqL.png

Everyone goes south (we'll be doing the treasure chests at the end of the chapter). Marich takes up position on a corridor, hoping to lure out the mamkute.

ZFdM7fA.png

WHY DOES THIS HAPPEN

UdxRf8q.png

Oh well, Marich got some more thunder in and then our muscular man finished the job.

A9UNk8A.png

And the mamkute drops a vulnerary too!

sPv0WVM.png

I had Tomth and Midia head to the storage to get themselves an iron sword and an iron lance, respectively. They were just sitting around in storage waiting to be used.

yILJN1t.png

This was supposed to say he dodged. The sniper doubled though. Marich dealt 6 damage and took 11.

2KhI6dl.png

The rapier in action. God bless Marth's OP'ness.

syyOZPC.png

Woop woop.

OGa9ZhA.png

Almost there...

7A8ad9s.png

One of the clerics dropped this.

NuYPNfU.pngPGhV9Vw.png

Strength and defense, awesome. Also, Marth is going to reach max level soon.

YSVV4gT.png

The power of Excalibur!

HZzTQMF.pngR75zpVt.png

+1 Spd, +1 HP.

Marich needed speed, honestly.

bzcz0Sc.png

+1 HP.

... Yeah...

vmC6tr3.pngb3NW9nw.pngIieJ7Op.png

So OP.

Not pictured: Banutu getting an empty level-up.

dgvbbtC.png

It was taking so long that I decided to send Tomth back and just let Midia take both the iron sword and the iron lance.

And now, it's time for Marth to open some chests!

MqgITSQ.pngHVAm3md.png

We interrupt this treasure hunting to bring you: battles.

7fstrRc.png

Banutu was leading our formation, and Himmler and his goons wouldn't attack him. Why? Because they'd do no damage. It's so weird how sometimes the AI makes smart decisions like this and it sometimes makes such idiotic decisions like that archer we saw earlier.

RnZYruc.png

LOOK AT THIS GUY'S DEFENSE

No, seriously, what's wrong with it? For comparison, here's a screenshot from earlier this chapter:

rDS534E.png

Notice how much his defense rose? It's 27 now. He sure didn't get that from his empty level-up. I have no idea what did cause it though!

sk65tCp.pngEMl1TIJ.png

Marich finishes the job with more Excalibur.

cvNvvgx.png

OOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHH

We now return to our scheduled treasure hunting.

LOYydd2.pngmiaJ3d2.pngqvfGwCz.pnghRunFFp.png

We also visited the armory; it sold some pretty nice stuff: iron swords, steel swords, armor killers, rapiers, kill swords, thunder swords and silver swords. Kain and Navarre switched out their old worn-out iron swords for new ones; Mishelan bought himself an iron sword and brought a kill sword, thunder sword and silver sword to storage.

Now it's time to seize.

1UqhRyM.pngjj5Afxy.png

O:

TKkPuEy.png

Dastards.

V26cxCJ.png

I bet!

Now here's to hoping Gordon can actually use it.

[spoiler=Pre-Battle Quotes]M8eQrPl.png

Derp.

Himmler doesn't have a pre-battle quote.

[spoiler=Death Quotes]V4D9swP.png

This is Boa's death quote.

oYE0cJB.pngoqvXhqu.pngSALJ7wB.pngkyuadk2.png

The other death quotes are all generic/non-existant.

[spoiler=Chapter 13]This time, we're, uhhh... What's the story again? Let's get our checklist:

  • defeat the pirates of Garuda - check;
  • relieve Orleans from the Macedonian invasion - check;
  • liberate countries occupied by Durhua and its allies, including our own Aritia and Akaneia - partial check;
  • defeat Mediuth.

So I guess we're going to liberate another country this time.

[spoiler=Map]1-capture_20120608_170_stitch.png

[spoiler=Enemy Data]The northern troop:

2 shooters, lv 1, quick rain;
the central troop:
1 shooter, lv 1, stonehedge;
1 shooter, lv 3, fire;
2 shooters, lv 3, stonehedge;
Astria: silver sword;
1 shooter, lv 1, thunder;
the southern troop:
1 shooter, lv 1, stonehedge;
1 shooter, lv 1, fire;
1 shooter, lv 1, quick rain;
the castle’s forces:

1 shooter, lv 1, quick rain;
2 shooters, lv 1, stonehedge;
1 shooter, lv 1, fire;
1 shooter, lv 1, thunder.

2lPJJFd.png
This hero in the middle is Astria. He has a silver sword.
LQPOY8y.png
Taking care of the castle's defenses is Gigash. He has an elephant (yes, that is the actual name of his weapon in this patch).
mVfBc9I.png
path.
qHaAFvF.png
machines to fight.
NW7i4sx.png
That's a rather odd way to describe it.
2p622Pz.png
The answer is yes, of course.
Turn 1:
M4YkfBZ.png
So here's the deal. As you can see above, the map is divided into three parts. Each part is separated by woodland surrounded by hills. Our army is accordingly divided into three divisions, but we still have some space to rearrange: we start off to the east of a river, where the divide does not yet occur.
Let's take a look at our army first.
Our northern force is comprised of Barts, Wendel, Navarre, Julian and Marich.
fijIWrS.png
Inventory: live, thunder, reblow, M shield.
uu1UnPi.png
Inventory: iron axe, steel axe, hand axe, hammer.
MYAvzkr.png
Inventory: iron sword, kill sword, silver sword, armorslayer.
IsZXcq1.png
Inventory: fire, thunder, freeze, excalibur.
dCoVdN3.png
Inventory: iron sword, thief key, vulnerary, steel sword.
Gordon, Banutu, Kain, Marth, Sheeda and Jake make up our central (main) force.
NepIfSA.png
Inventory: iron bow, bowgun, steel bow, silver bow.
ZQUGa0b.png
Inventory: firestone, hero proof, pure water, vulnerary.
His defense is still borked. I don't think the game is going to fix this at any point.
FOyBQxH.png
Inventory: iron sword, vulnerary, rapier, steel sword.
BaL59OM.png
Inventory: steel sword, iron sword, knight killer, javelin.
dANzwcC.png
Inventory: iron lance, silver lance, thunder sword, vulnerary.
UyUTAvs.png
Inventory: quick rain, elfire.
He nabbed that elfire from some magician in the last chapter.
Our southern force counts only three soldiers: Abel, Midia and Oguma.
ApNUQSo.png
Inventory: iron sword, silver sword, steel sword, javelin.
PKyVDd2.png
Inventory: iron sword, iron lance.
0K3iKSq.png
Inventory: iron sword, dragon killer, kill sword, steel sword.
LhVaWXI.png
Our southern force is the weakest, so it's going to join our central force in its advance. Our northern force is strong enough to advance through the northern part of this map.
Wendel will also be joining our central force because he's our only healer and the enemy is strongest in the center.
Also, I've started using arrows to indicate important movements and attacks, as you can see.
y8FVMLz.png
Now let the battle begin.
Turn 2:
N4Nd5vz.png
Barts decides he can handle this shooter by himself.
rgk4Bul.png9BP5c8P.png
+1 HP.
I love this guy.
6CBXMCW.png
+1 skl, +1 wlv, +1 HP.
Navarre gets stronger!
m4KLvoL.png
+1 skl, +1 lck, +1 HP.
The invincible Marth becoming more invincible.
GMsS2ok.png
Urrrgggggh.
XpoR1Bf.pngNHWwoMa.png
+1 HP.
Kain is turning into a fantastic unit.
hRzHJPM.png
The straight lines indicate direct attacks, the arrows indicate indirect attacks and the X's indicate fallen units.
As you can see, it took a total of 4 (four) units to take down one shooter. Sheeda and Banutu both missed one of their attacks, that's why.
Turn 3:
HNhM1GS.png
Since there's no one of our units in the south, the southern shooters are just spending their time moving towards us... slowly.
The southern thief decides to show up to raid the village. The thief near the castle hasn't moved an inch, even though he's closer to the village. Oh well, that's FE1 AI for you.
The bad thing about this is that the thief is blocking Midia's way to Astria, whom we need to recruit.
DFuklIe.pnguJva6K7.png
Oguma decides to crit this nuisance to death and take a knight killer from him.
Then Midia goes to talk to Astria.
wTGa2Ha.pngSiFGieI.pngbpuglli.pngFXo0Nw8.png
I don't think this conversation plays out any differently if you let most of the hostages die either.
NSqi1wd.png
enemy.
iV60kTW.pngXssc82R.png
Cute. You can stay together on the bench after this chapter.
tANAaik.pngtlgJQ3l.pnggjITFJI.png
Cute? Creepy? Who knows!
BNVqP4a.png
He gains 5 luck and a dragon killer upon recruitment.
UGXyJgU.png
+1 wlv, +1 spd, +1 HP.
Speedy Abel.
MnhvwIN.png?1
Astria and Abel took down the shooter that was standing next to Astria; I forgot to mark that in this screenshot.
Turn 4:
7YRgZRI.png
Marich visits the house in the north.
JqBmAcI.png
With all the shooters gone, Marth heads back to formally save that village.
Turn 5:
I98ImOK.png
In case you're wondering where or what this Dale is, it's supposed to be 'Deil', the castle where Maria was being held. It's a bit of internal inconsistency in this patch.
IjavYs2.pngtT6m0Ki.pngjfkXug2.png
Oh hey, we heard about that just now. Welcome to the club, but I doubt you'll be doing anything this chapter. You're stuck in this forest that you can't get out of.
1MiPP7M.png
All of his bases are either equal to or better than Jake's.
6hwrWrQ.png
Let's see if we can lure those shooters out.
yic6gYI.png
The answer is yes, but only some. Oguma was hit, but Sheeda remains unscathed.
Turn 6:
uPlZ9X8.png
+1 wlv, +1 HP.
Meh.
D8XHiZX.png
+1 lck.
Very meh.
Let's have Astria visit that house down there.
RDUMTQV.png
... This is a country? What country is this, then?
But general Camus
CiwwAYl.png
That's not an answer to my question. :/
PFnA2rj.png
Julian decides to go no-mercy on the cleric.
lHEp1Uy.png
I had Midia move up there over that dead shooter to kill the thief, but she missed him and got doubled instead, despite having a near-100% hit rate.
YPDNdP9.png
My favorite line in the game.
He missed, by the way.
SAEr0y8.png
Turn 7:
ewwF8cf.pngp5SBdfB.pngqH0I6QJ.png
+1 HP.
Julian finished off the thief, takes his knight killer and shows off good results.
2OdKD9F.png
+1 HP.
That's... something...
9kzmvhh.png
All the enemies are dead now, except those three shooters that are still pursuing us. Marth is catching up with the rest to seize the castle. As you can see, it took four people to take down Gigash: Marich with thunder, Wendel with thunder, Oguma with a steel sword and Banutu with his firestone. I could have done it with three though; Oguma did no damage.
2b9opTB.png
Turn 8:
I don't want to waste any more of my good weapons' uses on those shooters' high defense, so I'm just going to have everyone except Beck retreat.
oueJvUD.png
Two of the shooters decided to suicide on Beck. Now that's strategy.
Turn 9:
Let's seize and get this chapter over with.
ZhKJB2Z.png
A-are you hitting on me?
yNv0HCi.png
They will?
OhPuBTG.png
He is the general, so...
ukk5ajq.png
If you say so, friend! \o

[spoiler=Chapter 14]Last time, we met Grunia's Wooden Horse Division en route to Aritia. So this time, it's time to liberate Aritia.

[spoiler=The Map]1-capture_20120616_139_stitch.png

These enemies are all Gra soldiers.

What's Gra?

[spoiler=Enemy Data]

  • 1 armor knight, lv 5, steel sword;

  • 1 armor knight, lv 9, silver lance;

  • 1 cleric, lv 5, relieve;

  • Jiol.

ZYeosHf.png

Inventory: silver sword.

Guarding the throne is Mariones Jiol.

Let's begin!

CbQ2LUL.png

Aritia.

Whoa, plot dump alert.

mabpqvo.png

This is the first time we hear the name of Marth's father (it was already mentioned in chapter 7 in the Japanese version, but didn't get carried over into the translation).

zltegYy.png

of his father hides.

Oh, so this actually isn't Aritia yet? We're in Gra.

Well then, let's kick Gra's ass!

First, let's look at our team.

y6lPqzv.png

Inventory: iron sword, vulnerary, rapier, steel sword.

The hero, the legend.

J2j9CFN.png

Inventory: iron sword, steel sword, knight killer, javelin.

The greatest goon.

eSdXKso.png

Inventory: thunder sword, silver lance, iron lance, vulnerary.

Bad power, great otherwise. Her low power is why she has the thunder sword (which deals magical damage).

NVw6WCe.png

Inventory: thunder, fire, freeze, excalibur.

The mage.

Cg1d4ch.png

Inventory: iron bow, bowgun, steel bow, silver bow.

The archer.

O7UZyWt.png

Inventory: iron sword, kill sword, silver sword, armor killer.

The blademaster.

5R2xs7n.png

Inventory: thunder, live, reblow, M shield.

The healer with fighting power.

FUkLNBa.png

Inventory: bowgun, silver bow, steel bow, vulnerary.

I had an extra slot I needed to fill, so it was either this guy or Hardin. I already have two cavaliers, so...

EtSGZ17.png

Inventory: steel sword, iron sword, silver sword, javelin.

The not-Kain cavalier.

o69EtmL.png

Inventory: steel sword, dragon killer, kill sword, iron sword.

The not-Navarre mercenary.

dOKbDMT.png

Inventory: iron sword, thief key, vulnerary, steel sword.

The thief.

5uzvKEw.png

Inventory: quick rain, elfire.

The tank (literally).

HaDupFM.png

Inventory: hammer, hand axe, steel axe.

Muscular man.

fJTUMg3.png

Inventory: firestone, hero proof, pure water, vulnerary.

The dragon.

Turn 1:

yhcmvRV.png

First, let's visit the houses.

VGzV2bl.pnguYVcmBD.png

Thanks for telling me how to change class.

tqB36RH.png

Hmm, I wonder if we'll be getting a Silver Card this chapter?

eoFjiP5.png

Julian lowers the drawbridge, Barts fights the shooter.

JYvIGqs.png

The armor knights join the fray with their javelins.

That armor knight in the right is the reason why I had Wendel visit that left house.

Turn 2:

E5t0dcL.png

We obliterate the enemy's defenses and start breaking into their castle.

Marth will be heading west for the village. Our ranged force will accompany him to protect him from and kill off the archers in the tower.

IBDF4nT.png

The enemy reacts by throwing a bunch of helpless archers at us and having some armor knight take some thunder hits from Sheeda.

Turn 3:

65jBSVw.png

Oguma would like to challenge Navarre's title of blademaster.

H0lkiHg.png

+1 HP.

But with level-ups like that, he won't succeed.

UkIu7V1.png

Abel shows why Kain is better.

WAAH9eJ.pngURzck3n.png

Typical pegasus knight.

1Nxlw4E.png

Here we are at the end of player phase. If only Abel had killed that archer.

On enemy phase, one of the archers thinks it's a good idea to attack George.

B2QdQnx.png

(Hint: It wasn't.)

jnMX3SE.png

Navarre actually dodged the archer's attack.

Turn 4:

Oe28WL4.pngCXazrYK.png

+1 HP.

I love him.

UmKZSS8.png9QGluaU.png

And Abel redeems himself for missing that archer.

AGU9ElY.png

IxuhBc4.png

Turn 5:

AVcXCOo.png

+1 Skl, +1 HP.

Well, it's... something. He needs all the extra power he can get.

qH43GXR.png

The tower has been cleared, and our army is moving out to do some shopping and clear the throne room.

pP7qkcs.png

On enemy phase, Katua and Paola arrive.

Minerva said they'd join us, so they'll talk to Marth (note: Marth can't talk to them).

m2HlH2N.png

Inventory: kill sword.

mWrIXgd.png

Inventory: silver lance.

Their power is already higher than Sheeda's.

Turn 6:

yJ22Usv.png

Advance.

M4PgRT6.png

Turn 7:

Marth visits the village.

Tr6i9IU.pngGIHju4n.png

but I gave something in return.

That's needlessly vague.

ljNv01K.png

You're being needlessly vague!!!

He gave us a toron tome though; that's nice.

DzPM3Z9.png

But enough of that. There's a throne to be taken!

iBmc8jo.png

Defense-glitched Banutu leads our formation. Julian, in the meantime, is heading towards the treasury with his personal bodyguard Oguma.

On enemy phase, Katua talks to Marth.

GdGjhxC.pngq1A4nBM.png

Thanks, fam.

Paola follows her sister's example.

O485Ljv.png4cqTl0l.pngoyzXaPP.pngYzT1rYL.png

What is she even doing in Grunia in the first place?

agUpK9E.png

If you say so.

Paola gets a dragon killer upon recruitment, by the way.

d2jsMcr.png

The enemy didn't attack. We have to take the fight to them.

Turn 8:

LMwNvNd.pngFpcuTwq.png

+1 Spd, +1 HP.

Kain kills a thief, takes a vulnerary and gains a level.

NRgAe14.png

Abel manages to not kill a thief; Banutu and Sheeda manage to not kill an armor knight.

ORYZoSW.png

The armor knights nearly kill Sheeda, but she's too dodgy.

Meanwhile, Dragoons arrive and are headed for Marth and the White Knights.

Green arrows indicate staff usage.

Turn 9:

brenwa4.png

Kain defeats another thief and takes another vulnerary.

8BP0LSj.png

We defeat the armor knights, the cleric and one of the pegasus knights. Banutu attacks Jiol, but doesn't do much damage.

More pegasus knights arrive on enemy phase. One misses Katua, the other two attack Marth for 1 damage.

ACPgr3t.png

He's level 20 now.

IrhL18A.png

Jiol didn't dare to attack Banutu.

Turn 10:

ZKhNGa2.png

Muscular man uses his hammer, but misses the second attack.

kznOH1m.png

Banutu helps him. Marth heads for the throne and Katua flees for safety while Paola gives them cover.

I'm expecting the pegasus knights to keep coming, so I'm going to form a formation to stop their advance.

On enemy phase, Jiol attacks muscular man.

BxgZmbl.png

Barts is Talisian, sir.

99yba1G.png

hrl1Fma.png

No destroying for you today, sir.

Jiol was quite a threat with his silver sword, but muscular man is too awesome and his hammer too effective.

ssBZm6T.png

+1 HP.

Barts... I thought your level-ups were always good...

Then, on enemy phase...

R18TpAn.png

Please just stop already.

kEaWbgm.png

Not pictured: Oguma going at a sniper, and a sniper going at Oguma.

Turn 11:

oGCybLq.png

Wx8tGtA.png

JaCaYRm.png

Behold my formation of doom.

Good luck not dying to Gordon and George, peggies.

Turn 12:

xcEv2LA.png

It didn't help. :(

kY94hpl.png

Navarre and Kain are better meatshields than Wendel and Paola.

Turn 13:

eo8KeXQ.png

+1 Spd. +1 HP.

But Abel could use some extra exp, so he's taking Navarre's place.

wfhlTUd.png

See? I told you.

hZXGP8S.png

W5VuX16.png

Turn 14:

UnKn1cB.png

+1 HP.

I'd complain, but every little bit helps make Gordon slightly less useless.

qaS9G2X.png

+1 Spd, +1 Lck, +1 HP.

Also, Marich needs exp more than George. And he puts it to good use.

wzYwCWt.png

l9S0Dye.png

+1 Lck, +1 Def.

Kain shows why he's awesome.

2OfmyZ5.png

Turn 15:

KECN9PF.png

Okay, time to end this.

b7Ca6hI.png

Oh, so the Falchion was in Gra? I was wondering where it was.

laz3VGO.png

Uhm... how did you come to this conclusion? Wouldn't it be more logical for Mediuth to have taken it?

Y2Zmjvz.pngB8k7X4q.png

Sure, just don't question it.

Well then, you heard it, folks! Liberating Aritia will have to wait.

[spoiler=Death Quotes]MXSV1JZ.png

wpaHfCb.png

I'm willing to bet Est will have the same death quote once she joins.

[spoiler=Reinforcement Information]

  • Katua and Paola (turn 5).

  • 2 pegasus knights, lv 5, iron lance (turns 8-15).

[spoiler=Chapter 15]Last time, we conquered Gra, in hopes of finding the Falchion there. But it seemed the Falchion had already been taken to Khadein by Garnef.
This time, we're going to Khadein, to get our hands on the divine blade Falchion.

And I guess Wendel asked us to free it from Garnef's tyranny.

[spoiler=The Map]1-capture_20120705_157_stitch.png

[spoiler=Enemy Data]

guarding the bridge:

1 magician, lv 5, fire;

1 magician, lv 7, freeze;

near the treasury:

1 magician, lv 7, thunder;

Garnef;

in the desert (west):

1 magician, lv 7, freeze;

2 clerics, lv 5, relieve;

1 thief, lv 3, iron sword;

1 priest, lv 3, thunder;

2 magicians, lv 5, freeze;

guarding the castle:

1 priest, lv 5, worm;

1 dragon knight, lv 7, javelin;

1 cleric, lv 5, relieve;

in the east:

2 dragon knights, lv 5, javelin;

1 dragon knight, lv 5, javelin;

1 magician, lv 5, fire;

1 magician, lv 3, thunder.

CTwZ1ek.png

Inventory: Maph.

B-Banutu, what happened to you?

Let's begin.

njdzZQW.pngIb8pw3P.pngGi6qzbn.png

themselves.

Everyone has 0 resistance, so that's true.

CAuvXVb.png

Dun dun duuuun...

Turn 1:

evrDiTa.png

And so we begin. Strategy is going to be as follows: first, we're going to take over this little island here, then we're going to head east, kick Garnef's ass, loot his treasury and then we're going to head over to the castle and take it.

Why Garnef is guarding two treasure chests instead of the castle is beyond me.

First, let's look at our team.

I73xirI.png

Inventory: iron sword, vulnerary, rapier, steel sword.

Still level 20.

0XmqPnD.png

Inventory: iron sword, steel sword, knight killer, javelin.

The hero on a horse.

yGLs5jw.png

Inventory: kill sword, armor killer, vulnerary, steel sword.

I had an extra deployment slot left. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

wOQPuzd.png

Inventory: iron sword, thief key, vulnerary, steel sword.

Not quite as underleveled as Katua, but still underleveled.

UpVWheb.png

Inventory: iron sword, kill sword, silver sword, armor killer.

Our swordsman.

kfdnqay.png

Inventory: fire, thunder, freeze, excalibur.

Magic man.

1MwcYHI.png

Inventory: quick rain, elfire.

The tank.

1yfKEu6.png

Inventory: iron sword, dragon killer, kill sword, steel sword.

The not-Navarre.

yrolVvZ.png

Inventory: iron sword, silver sword, steel sword, javelin.

The not-Kain.

COocYHP.png

Inventory: firestone, hero proof, pure water, vulnerary.

Wonky defense dragon.

AE8dQ7R.png

Inventory: iron sword, steel sword, iron lance, silver lance.

I had an extra deployment slot, so why not bring this guy back?

dv8rXZw.png

Inventory: live, fire, reblow, M shield.

UVWClof.png

Inventory: bowgun, silver bow, steel bow, vulnerary.

I'll never get tired of pointing out that George has no right arm.

raWBgVZ.png

Inventory: iron bow, bowgun, steel bow, silver bow.

Just as underleveled as Julian, but way worse at fighting.

9XTvPU7.png

Inventory: iron lance, thunder sword, silver lance, vulnerary.

1Pzj0gI.png

Inventory: hammer, devil axe, hand axe, steel axe.

Muscular man!

Now then, charge!

0pj1eIg.png

+1 Wlv, +1 Spd, +1 HP.

Our charge is off to a good start.

Z4M87gu.png

hXVyijy.png

A magician and two dragon knights are coming to fight us for control over this island, while the thief tries to outrun us to the treasury.

Turn 2:

ecx1f80.png

The magician is no match for Kain, but that's we all can do for now.

v7bdndD.png

The dragon knights, unsurprisingly, prioritize Marth.

Turn 3:

m5S0ZUi.png

George is the best bow user in the entire game.

B7eKcaQ.png

+1 HP.

In spite of this kind of level-up.

K6ZJHqV.png

+1 Lck, +1 HP.

Oguma's strength falls just short of killing a dragon knight with his dragon killer, but at least he gets Lck and HP?

cWoDJ10.png

Meanwhile, Hardin takes out the thief and steals a recover staff from him.

EFyUPjR.png

+1 HP.

And he gets a level-up that shows us why he's only here as an extra.

53pAJLe.png

Here's the results of this turn. The green arrow was Wendel healing Navarre.

DzrfyhI.png

From this turn onward, magicians start appearing in the treasury. They're level 1 magicians with fire though, so they're no real threat by themselves. But as supports for Garnef, they might pose a problem. We still don't know how powerful Maph is exactly.

By the way, I think this is the only instance in FE1 where reinforcements appear on a non-fort tile.

Turn 4:

P9Ep9lP.png

A magician leaves a thunder tome.

MdVMmXh.png

+1 Spd, +1 HP.

Speed is nice.

4gpftBG.pngRQDDCIF.png

Here's another example of why I use Kain over Hardin.

bRMoOWG.png

Kain is in position to lure out Garnef. I made sure Wendel healed him before he moved out (I forgot to draw the arrow though).

kQZfKWd.png1Sjn36n.png

Bring it on.

uN2GP1O.png

Damn, that's some terrible power.

vrFkM32.png

Note: Kain took more damage from the level 1 fire magician than from Garnef.

Jokes aside though, Maph's attack looks pretty high.

Turn 5:

sJU5o89.png

What is this?

U7P2xFF.png

What is this?!

I don't like the looks of this. Can no one attack Garnef?

Okay, new strategy: Marth and Kain are going to run around with Garnef pursuing them until Marth has opened both chests; then they're going to run towards the castle with Garnef pursuing them.

Meanwhile, the rest of the army will clear the desert of enemies, so the way will be open for Marth and Kain once they arrive.

zVo3hqx.png

+1 Spd, +1 HP.

iD8S9Za.png

House, house.

Wendel has an M shield, but I don't think I've actually used it yet.

4WYa6BG.png

It was actually Marich who killed that one magician, not George. My bad.

51g7Icp.png

The Marth prioritization continues.

Turn 6:

IzdANza.png

The plan seems to be working.

qWodSCK.png

Marth keeps dodging Maph, by the way.

For how powerful Maph is, its hit rate is certainly (fortunately) rather low.

e3e5pmH.png

Meanwhile, on the other side of the map...

Turn 7:

Eo3KH7H.png

BZxZW0M.png

+1 Wlv, +1 HP.

... It's something!

VGAgHuE.png

For the record: Gordon killed the magician. Banutu initially tried to kill him, but he missed and nearly got himself killed.

Your glitchy defense won't save you from magic.

Turn 8:

acsGB83.png

DW0LbMH.png

+1 HP.

Katua, if you're underleveled, you shouldn't mimick Gordon.

Meanwhile, let's visit that other house.

ybq7XUB.png

Intelligent Systems presents:

Fire Emblem: Return of the Meme.

UJkwI3k.png

it.

Well, this would have been nice to know before going out and fighting Garnef.

2LiOrSn.png

I'm sure I killed a priest and at least 1 magician here, but I forgot who killed who.

dLi4SJ3.png

George lures out and crits a dragon knight.

D8fRsqp.png

Meanwhile, Garnef decides it's a better idea to trap Marth in the treasury than to attack Kain.

... He got me there. I'm going to try to lure him out with Kain. That's my only hope.

Turn 9:

q1hPknR.png

Battle of the dragons!

I love how this looks. Small dragon vs. big dragon.

KLDgeXr.png

Meanwhile, George just keeps critting.

9wQvfzH.png

+1 HP.

Your amazing crits redeem all your terrible level-ups.

TG4Witr.png

5D9b3mL.png5yXazVd.png

And with that, Garnef is off. Why? No one will ever know. He is invincible, so he could have completely annihilated the Altean army here, take the Aura and the Parthia for himself, but no... he leaves.

Not that I'm complaining; at least this solves my situation.

... Also, what is Tebe?

SSsAeYs.png

Turn 10:

CyJlsrh.png

And so begins our long march...

Q5SVHDN.png

Katua kills a cleric.

Tg56Rpv.png

Oh hey, Marth and Kain get some company.

Turn 11:

ONf8G2t.png

+1 Wlv, +1 HP.

Kain is going to hit the level cap soon.

Also, that magician on the castle has worm... I have no idea how powerful that is, so I should be careful about attacking and I should probably use a powerful weapon, like Excali--

ybOsazm.png

Yes, like Excalibur.

eW4vLfm.png

+1 Spd, +1 HP.

More speed is always good.

uySHjM3.png

oPUv1jJ.png

Turn 12:

xST3aof.png

+1 HP.

wK5UufY.png

Marth and Kain are going at the dragon knight with their steel swords. The dragon knight has 17 defense.

This will take a while.

0Ho1EFI.png

Turn 13:

lNuX3AU.png

Marth needs to heal.

cBreF1j.png

Turn 14:

ra8RhW0.png

And Kain kills the dragon knight.

I'm going to save you all the long boring march and fastforward a little lot.

PUhE1Qq.png

qo9VCIk.png

I love Gotoh's theme. In my opinion, it's one of the few tracks that's better in FE1 than in FE3.

Gr4Ig0K.png7CBozb2.png

stole Maph from me and vanished.

sDlRHu9.png

Durhua can't defeat him.

All this time we've been led to believe that Durhua is in control of the league of evil, but it appears that Garnef could overthrow Durhua and seize control whenever he wants.

This is a nice little plot twist. Durhua is still the big bad, as it has been since the very beginning, but Garnef's position of power introduces a new dynamic to the league of evil.

y1oVi1E.pngKgmjXt8.png

So there is a way to defeat Garnef. Well then, let's go find the Star Orb and the Light Orb!

[spoiler=Reinforcements]

[spoiler=Chapter 16, part 1]Last time, we took a detour to Khadein in hopes of getting the Falchion. However, Garnef is invincible with his Maph spell, so we'll have to get the Star Orb and Light Orb to forge Starlight Explosion: the only spell that can break through Maph's barrier.

But our expedition to Khadein was a detour. We were actually en route to Aritia. So I guess that's where we're gonna go first.

[spoiler=The Map]1-capture_20120708_144_stitch.png

Inventory: kill sword.

The boss.

K0fauxM.png

Inventory: iron sword.

Some guy.

Let's begin.

Crbcnkf.png

No, this is Patrick.

GOqai11.pngMXh5LXC.pngf9P3kdz.png

Thay day.

YFZm79u.png89ClfkH.png

That's the spirit!

7gO3Tgj.png

And so we begin.

Let's look at the team.

mQAGTEU.png

Inventory: bowgun, silver bow, steel bow, vulnerary.

iIvfc0X.png

Inventory: iron sword, silver sword, steel sword, javelin.

eBlZAsl.png

H8oy3cc.png

Inventory: iron lance, thunder sword, silver sword, vulnerary.

eupOjLg.png

Inventory: hammer, devil axe, hand axe, steel axe.

Let's head for the villages first, before the thief gets there. We visit a house along the way.

A7ZoUpY.png

Yes, that's where I'm headed.

vJeyQzl.pnga6FgaPy.pngZGB3sCt.png

visit one of them.

Well, isn't that great.

I guess I'll pick Alan because of his movement.

epk0UNP.png

Barts and Banutu have been carefully positioned to lure out the dragon knights.

VmOgnm8.png

Good boy.

RjuywqT.png

The plan half worked. No one wants to attack Banutu with his 27 defense.

Barts got some damage in on that dragon knight, but it was all undone by that cleric with the reserve staff: a staff that heals all enemies on the map.

wZsBmc4.png

Aww yes, this is gonna be good. Just look at that attack bar.

wPAotJX.png

... He missed. With a hit rate like this, he missed.

8Cm4A6S.png

Well, at least he almost did the job.

cjWCJr7.png

Barts did the rest and is now going to lure out the other two dragon knights.

Sheeda, way ahead of the rest of our army, will try to protect at least the western village from the thief.

TdPFmjX.pngNPh7ov3.png

+1 Def.

And he keeps being awesome.

FYcN3tl.png

So here's our situation now. The dragon knights are positioned just right to get their asses kicked by a combination of Gordon, George, Jake and Marich.

ZLYUqre.png

If only Gordon would hit.

UnHG7D5.png

Ah yes, a level-up.

tm1ydO1.png

The dracos are dead. Sheeda flies off to protect the western village, but it seems the eastern village is going to be destroyed.

Oh well.

67rMgW2.png

... Or you could run away. Lovely AI this game has.

HOLaWlL.png

Since the villages are under no threat, we continue our advance. We have cavalry coming to meet us up ahead, and I don't think that island with all the forts is just there for us to heal our wounded. I'm going to get some men on the bridges to prepare for the inevitable wave of reinforcements.

HrYF98Y.png

And there comes the cavalry. There's a paladin not far behind them.

The real threat here is that one of them has a knight killer. As our infantry is still too far behind to join the fray, that is very bad.

Let's recruit that paladin first.

5c42T33.pngFnMYyoL.png

between this and the other village.

xhpST5l.png

gates.

IKjD5pA.png

Inventory: knight killer, silver sword.

Kain has 7 more power, and he's not even promoted yet. Kain and Abel are both generally better than this guy. But his knight killer (and silver sword) will come in handy for the rest of this chapter, especially for the upcoming cavalry battle.

zxVuRZl.png

Speaking of, Sheeda critted the knight killer guy, then killed him on her second attack. :newyears:

That's our biggest worry out of the way.

T4TsZ74.png

Meanwhile, Alan shows us why I prefer Kain and Abel over him.

Cc4HaTy.png

+1 Spd, +1 Lck, +1 HP.

Good man.

wkSoj1B.png

WHOA NO CRITTING JULIAN IS NOT ALLOWED

0fH0mr1.png

And here's our situation now. Oguma and Navarre are guarding the bridges. We have a paladin and social knight up ahead to deal with, and there's a few horsemen not far behind them.

1mBkc4c.pngJ7A1f0Y.png

What a man.

lq6zVNa.png

+1 Spd, +1 Lck, +1 HP.

And so, Kain reaches maximum level. We have a knight crest in storage, which means that we can promote him.

7IO4cSY.png

We advance to meet the horsemen. Oguma and Navarre aren't exactly great defensive units, so they've been replaced by Marth and Barts. I'll replace Marth with Banutu later.

Thus concludes part 1 of our quest to liberate Aritia.

  • 3 weeks later...

[spoiler=Chapter 16, part 2]Last time, we started our liberation of Aritia. Now it is time for Marth to fulfill his quest to free his homeland.

l49EWTK.png

If it's up to Kain, that'll be an easy task.

LRcf8Ip.png

Our cavalry is far ahead of the rest of our army (except for Navarre/Oguma, he's pretty close behind).

The Kain wall is going to hold off the horsemen, while our less strong units stand ready to strike.

MdO5v4s.png

Meanwhile, our bridge guards are now in position for when the inevitable reinforcements start showing up from the forts on the island.

Jake is lagging behind, so I may just use him in fighting the reinforcements.

One horseman misses Kain, the other does no damage.

OyV100p.png

+1 Wlv, +1 Def.

Strength and defense? o:

Are you sure you're Sheeda?

glytBYs.png

The infantry is starting to catch up and the horsemen squad is nearly defeated.

This means it's time to visit the town soon.

First, let's visit this lone house over here.

SGYwjsX.png

Wait, he's a prisoner? Then why does he have an iron sword?

Letting prisoners bear weapons is not a good idea, Grunia.

SO0KcQq.png

Yes, he's a great dancer.

aZGRtCL.png

While we're here, why don't we let some people take a chance at the arena?

Results:

ZEO2dMt.png

+1 Spd, +1 HP.

sU9GVTP.png

+1 Lck, +1 Def.

JUDOi4t.png

And here's our reinforcements! Let's go!

K0T7Aea.png

Barts killed a social knight or two, the horseman just walked up to Banutu. Nothing special.

aHhI5C4.png

Time for the Jake to shine.

Meanwhile, in the town:

EpzAYUq.png

+1 Mov.

"Huh, why does Kain only get +1 Mov as promotion gains?"

You see, promotion gains work differently in FE1 than they do in most FE games.

In most FE games, promotion gains are determined by comparing the unpromoted class's base stats to the promoted class's base stats.

Promotion gains = promoted class's base stats - unpromoted class's base stats.

So, for example, if a social knight's base HP is 16, and a paladin's base HP is 22, then a social knight will get +6 HP when promoting to paladin.

In FE1, promotion gains are determined by comparing the character's current stats to the promoted class's base stats.

Promotion gains = promoted class's base stats - character's current stats.

So, for example, if Kain's current HP is 20, and a paladin's base HP is 22, then Kain will get +2 HP when promoting to paladin.

If, however, Kain's current HP is 30, and a paladin's base HP is 22, then Kain will get no HP when promoting to paladin.

In our situation here, all of Kain's stats as a level 20 social knight were higher than the paladin's base stats, except his Mov, so he only gained +1 Mov.

/end essay

5w70dxW.pngArMWPRA.png

I decided to give George the Partia, but... apparently 12 weapon level isn't high enough to wield it. Oops.

Meanwhile, house visiting:

TIcOfE2.pngaDWetVQ.png

That's an unusual way of putting it, but sure.

kERwTdj.pngrTR86uX.png

Thanks, ma'am.

j7JBNv6.pngZJS5vlx.png

So Ellis was taken away by Garnef, huh? All the more reason to go defeat him.

Meanwhile:

Imw1pey.png

+1 HP.

vyniIuq.png

I'm done in this town. Marth, Julian and Marich are going to set Chainy free, while the rest is going to take over the central island.

Meanwhile still:

bNwHM23.png

+1 Spd.

Well, speed is nice.

CNjB4sT.png

+1 HP.

Thus a hero reaches his peak.

And that's the end of this fight. The reinforcements stopped coming after two turns.

Their numbers were few and disappointing, given how many forts there were on that island.

DihEest.png

+1 HP.

This young hero still has much to grow.

W03t2OC.png

Prison break!

oMTPndd.pngDYe5g8Q.png

Meanwhile, Abel kills bos and gets a dragon shield!

a0UkSm8.png

+1 HP.

AmMGoJn.png

+1 Skl, +1 HP.

B5SaOMd.png

Chainy comes and talks to Marth (note: it is also possible to have Marth talk to Chainy).

Usqw1z6.pngxVzwsOn.png0nT4ltd.png

You can transform into anyone, huh? That sounds like a useful ability.

gcXg8kP.png

The weird thing is that Chainy comes up to us and joins us, and then this prison ward decides to attack Marth for a bit of damage instead of going after the much weaker Chainy.

Oh, FE1 AI, you so silly.

vzNAJDZ.png

Anyway, Marich kills the guy and takes a hero crest from him.

Then it's time to seize.

kJBqMbm.pngktzIdXl.png

:newyears:

zF41uxp.png

He means "many foes".

hanaCKP.png

Yes, let's go!

Next time, that is.

[spoiler=Reinforcement Info]

Turn 10:

  • 2 armor knights, lv 5, iron lance;
  • 1 social knight, lv 5, steel sword;
  • 1 social knight, lv 5, iron lance;
  • 1 horseman, lv 5, steel bow.

Turn 11:

  • The turn 10 reinforcements that have already been killed are replenished. (So for example, if you killed 1 armor knight and the horseman, 1 armor knight and a horseman will show up on turn 11.)

I'm not all too sure about the turn 11 reinforcements, but I think this is how it works.

It also seems like the horseman only appears if all the horsemen from the central island have already been killed.

[spoiler=The Two Villages]What happens if you visit the other village after already having visited one?

iWFeP5M.png

Now let's look at Samson's recruitment text.

teMT6xn.pngx8ea1jL.png

and the other village. After seeing you enter this village, they've surely closed their gates.

I didn't bother screenshotting the last part, since it's exactly the same as what Alan says if you recruit him.

[spoiler=Chapter 17]Last time, we finally liberated Marth's homeland, Aritia. Or, well, not quite. Durhua still holds Aritia Castle. So let's drive them out and complete the liberation of Aritia!

[spoiler=The map]3-capture_20120715_332_stitch.png

58Vs0yl.png

The mamkute in front of the door, guarding the throne, is called Moses. He will be our boss for this battle.

Inventory: demonstone.

Let's begin!

qjFtGfr.png

Yes.

aub9w7H.png

The Basilisk is the tribe of the demon dragons, for those of you who don't remember.

3jK8Llw.pngrFj1yBO.png

Okay.

nZ7Wsxu.png

And so we begin. Let's review our team first.

DhyJvmv.png

Inventory: iron sword, rapier, vulnerary, steel sword.

The lord.

Inventory: iron sword, dragon killer, kill sword, steel sword.

BXkxXVa.png

Inventory: steel bow, Partia, silver bow, vulnerary.

OIbQqhb.png

Inventory: iron sword.

I don't remember why I didn't get him any weapons in the last chapter.

9VWVy4d.png

Inventory: iron sword, dragon killer, silver sword.

lLeQCQn.png

Inventory: iron sword, steel sword, iron lance, silver lance.

WprGw1F.png

Most of our army heads west for the treasury, but Marich and Gordon head east to get rid of those clerics.

z7bonEZ.png

+1 HP.

Marich defeated the sniper.

qWmYwGp.png

Aaaand my plan has been foiled. I should have seen that coming.

Oh well, if Gordon and Marich can't fight the clerics, I'll have them rejoin the others.

SnbifvF.png

+1 HP.

Yay.

WkmBPyi.png

One of the thieves drops a door key.

PtIsnwd.png

+1 Spd, +1 HP.

More yay.

854zdjR.png

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

yKsaK1K.png

+1 Wlv, +1 Spd, +1 HP.

This is why I love Kain.

6LkGQ0p.png

+1 Spd, +1 Lck.

Pretty nice.

BZ8c9jl.png

Marth starts opening chests.

CV8L2xj.pngKHAFU0U.png

wmwaKrN.png

+1 Lck.

While Marth is busy opening chests, the rest is busy assaulting the throne room. Navarre opens the offensive with a rather underwhelming level-up.

He could use the extra power though.

KEyIzrm.png

+1 Spd, +1 Lck, +1 HP.

That's more like it.

8Gy9tHW.pngh93Q1V8.pngQNjctDj.png

So much loot.

The worm is dropped by the bishop.

ScbqOp1.png

And here we encounter the demon dragon's gimmick: magic attacks are sealed. That's right; if you thought you'd bypass dragonstones' huge defense bonuses by using magic, you won't have any success.

I guess I'll have Kain, Chainy in Kain form, George and Banutu do the job then.

The rest will be moving out to defeat the clerics.

CBfONUB.png

Reinforcements have started to arrive.

0Mx7X86.png

Oops. If even George can't damage Moses with a silver bow...

cJn6Zx6.png

HzBEZoE.png

Moses says something before he attacks one of your units for the first time.

LiLZbqA.png

Okay, so an iron sword is apparently not strong enough.

E86NLdj.png

With Kain being occupied doing no damage, it's Abel's time to shine in the fight against the reinforcements, which still keep arriving every turn.

2b2ZDnA.png

And this is Kain's damage output with a steel sword. Guess I'll need a dragon killer then.

Oguma! Astria! Get over here!

y7OZ0e0.png

GORDON OOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

xFrRSW4.png

+1 HP.

He barely deals any damage, but at least he got a good level-up out of it. His speed is capped now.

zMB0XgM.pngrrYMQJ6.png

Barts is too awesome. None of the reinforcements can even damage him.

JXdZXaR.png

+1 Spd, +1 Lck, +1 HP.

Nice going, Abel.

8WMo2dt.png

And here we have Oguma's damage output with a dragon killer.

This is going to be a long boss fight.

gqSEZSQ.png

+1 Skl, +1 HP.

Navarre gets some much-needed strength.

vQS4b6q.png

Formation. Barts is going to act as a meatshield. He isn't taking any damage anyway.

Oh, and guess how much damage Banutu did to Moses? 0.

uJflc3c.png

People have been dodging pretty well so far, but Astria takes a big hit.

Much bigger than the ones he's dealing.

1Qm0QPf.png

But in the end, Oguma saves the day. Well done.

xj2eT42.png

And we get more loot.

PsIwbc8.png

+1 Spd, +1 HP.

And Oguma gets a nice little level from it.

N6yfZpR.png

A little while later, and Kain has joined the fight against the reinforcements (yes, new ones are still arriving every turn).

z4FxbAU.png

A door leading nowhere? Seems suspicious, so I had Julian open it.

Also, I'm going to try to fight my way through the reinforcements to the clerics. I have a feeling they may be carrying more loot...

bDAZXJT.png

Kain, the only-slightly-less-thwompy-than-Barts-guy.

yWD7kDb.png

+1 HP.

W-where did your good level-ups go?

ok0bV9a.png

Formation. Barts is still leading the charge, with slightly-less-thwompy-than-Barts-guy and borky defense Banutu close behind.

rzIdmHC.png

GORDOOOOOOOOOON

I6BRSyC.png

+1 HP.

You're a funny dude, Gordon.

UMvL8jz.png

I think this is his fifth empty level-up in a row.

WHVLBpt.png

#YOLO

It's not like anyone can damage Banutu anyway.

oprp3zC.png

GORDOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON

YoqHtCv.png

Let's go! My formation is ready.

0vLuQza.png

Meh.

0iOLyd1.png

+1 Lck.

Meher.

But he has a high enough weapon level to use Partia now!

Apparently you need 13 weapon level to wield it.

fWDV8Q0.png

+1 Skl, +1 Lck, +1 HP.

Julian doing good things.

9EZJgfq.png

GORDOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON

mCSjmKg.png

+1 Spd, +1 Lck.

SPEED

HE GAINED SPEED

:newyears::newyears::newyears::newyears::newyears::newyears::newyears:

OTfVEE6.pngy7YBnUT.pngxq7NRHJ.png

Cleric on the right drops a reserve, and Marich gets an amazing level-up.

Xunn37A.png

OGUMAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

DTEWzF3.png

And Hardin finishes what Oguma started. The cleric on the left drops a member card.

Hmm, I wonder if there's a secret shop anywhere in this map? Maybe there's one behind that door leading nowhere?

AtHkNjh.png

Everyone's heading back while Barts and Banutu hold off the never-ending reinforcements. George is there too, but he's probably going to have to retreat soon as well, given that his defense isn't very high.

YjvO6t3.png

+1 HP.

But he's gonna get a bad level-up first.

Actually, since Barts' hammer just broke, I want to withdraw him so he can get a new hammer from the storage.

I'll have Marth take his place. Marth's defense is just as high as Kain's, but Marth has more HP and he has a vulnerary.

aPKLUvi.png

I do not regret my decision.

Marth's critical animations look so awesome, by the way.

4HlIUi7.png

Javelinman gets another bad level-up.

sJMfm4g.png

+1 Spd, +1 HP.

Nice.

7rA2lva.png

He still crits like a boss. Keep up the good work, Kain.

Or Chainy in Kain form, I forgot who this was. It doesn't matter anyway, since they're exact copies (only with different weapons).

aOgIT35.png

New formation: Kain, Chainy in Kain form and Banutu hold the line. I want to move Marth back to the throne so he can seize it the moment Barts gets his new hammer.

IYahA93.png

Nothing out of the ordinary for Banutu.

J2xUhUP.png

+1 HP.

Sigh, I really wish he'd get strength or defense just once.

jbMtALF.png

+1 HP.

STRENGTH

Thank you, Kain.

oJ1rNOf.png

Okay, I've had enough of these reinforcements. I'm blocking the entrance.

6yvvTAB.png

There.

C7zUFWW.pngm8XD1t0.pngjuL9K0N.png

And so, Prince Marth has fulfilled the liberation of his homeland at last. He is cheered on by his citizens, who are finally free from the Durhuan-Grunian yoke. An important part of the story has come to an end.

To-do list:

☒ free Talis from pirates;
☒ defeat the pirates;
☒ lift the siege of Orleans;
☒ free the Macedonian princesses;
☒ liberate Akaneia;
☒ defeat Gra;
☒ liberate Aritia;
☐ defeat Macedon;
☐ defeat Grunia;
☐ find the Star Orb and the Light Orb;
☐ get Starlight from Gato;
☐ defeat Garnef and get Falchion;
☐ defeat Mediuth and Durhua.
PS: The secret shop sold torons, worms, M shields, reblows and thief keys. None of the items was interesting enough to buy.
The reblow and the thief key would be interesting, but I still have one of either in storage.
[spoiler=Reinforcement info]
Turns 9-50:
  • 1 armor knight, lv 3, steel sword;
  • 1 social knight, lv 5, javelin;
  • 1 horseman, lv 7, steel bow.
