  1. then what is the hole in the blade?

they could have made it a bit ,more consistant with the other two designs, really compare the designs and tell me how the hole in the blade came to be if it wasn't reforged?

    FE 3 http://img1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20100919035335/fireemblem/images/4/4a/Falchion_%28TCG%29.jpg

    FE 12 http://img4.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20110517201418/fireemblem/images/8/82/NewMysteryEvt_04.png

    FE 13 http://img4.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20140219101352/fireemblem/images/a/a4/Falchion_%28FE13_Artwork%29.png

That hole comes from the hilt, notice the jewel's missing, not the blade itself. Besides, in game designs are hardly higher tier than in game dialogue.

  2. I have no problem with optional content. What I have a problem with is it being introduced with timing that has no respect for the mandatory part of the game, when it could have just as easily been put somewhere better.

There really is no better time for something that's optional and always available throughout the entire game, after a certain point. If it were mandatory, I would see the point, but as is, it hardly even matters in the grand scheme that matters even less.

  3. It's probably Lyon. Awakening is badly lacking in the villain department, SS's story was nothing special but Lyon stood out in it as one of the best villains in the series. Especially if you've played through both Eirika and Ephraim's routes.

Useless gray circles aren't a problem. Problems start when the game opens up a flashy new paralogue that has absolutely nothing to do with the main plot while Chrom and co. are supposed to be fleeing for their lives from Plegia. It's bad enough to be able to put off fleeing from Plegia to trash some bandits in the far reaches of Ferox, but the game actually encourages you to do it by putting a Paralogue right there. If this were Blazing Sword where paralogues are only accessible at one point and if you miss them, they can't be redone, would it make any sense at all to have Eliwood take a break from looking for his father on Valor to go hunt bandits in Etruria without any acknowledgement of the rest of the story? SS had the decency to disable the map when there was something going on that can't be ignored, such as an ambush by Valter.

Optional content is by definition optional. Criticizing a game for something that is not in its parameters to make you do is again, a criticism of yourself. The game doesn't say, "Recruit Donnel now mofo or I'mmaendyou," it doesn't even tell you Donnel is there. It doesn't tell you what kind of unit he is, it's just a green circle with a name, which will not catch your eye more than the red one it clearly points out for you to go to next. Paralogues are your choice, and the only person who makes you go to them, is yourself. If the option to do things beside the main story infuriates you so, then well....I really don't even know what to say.

  4. I'd again like to point out this game wasn't made for you. It was made with the idea in mind to be a cash grab. Second, I don't know where this idea of Awakening pushing the story to the side came from, except for the fact that almost literally every FE game does this. Teenagers conquering the world may have been innovative at one time. But not so much now. Hundreds of these exist now. There are exceptions of course, as with anything, but for the most part, FE is a game series with horrible cliched stories with interesting characters and gameplay.

Second, being able to grind is not a criticism I usually accept for any product because the game doesn't force you to do it. That's a choice you made on your own, knowing full well what you were doing. Blame yourself. That's a criticism of you. If you think a game should tell you not to do something because you lack the strength to not use the riekling boxes, or even worse, the dlc you purchased seperately, twice knowing what it does, I really don't know what to say.

    Third

Even if there weren't a crapton of continuity errors and unexplained things it'd still be weak because the main story takes a backseat to the supports, and the free-roaming map encourages this distraction even further.

Again, that's how FE has been for the most part. That is a series, not an Awakening problem. As for the free-roaming map, it's hardly free-roaming. How exactly are the useless, gray circles distracting you from the active, red ones? You're making a much bigger deal out of something that means pretty much nothing in the grand scheme.

That being said, I'm not happy with some of ways, most of the ways, Awakening turned out, not because it ruined a series of flawless, peerless, strategy games with concise and concrete storytelling, that "makes me want to cry," but because FE is a good example of NIntendo product stagnation.

  5. That feeling when you're given more backstory on ancient Macedon or ancient Grust (which only partially relevent to the main story) than you're given on present day Ylisse or Regna Ferox.

Trutru, they could have given the story more explanation, but then again, the story isn't worth knowing to begin with. This is Fanservice the Game: DLC on a Beach, doe.

  6. But really?, you think none of the fire emblem games have better story or writing than awakening?... I know fire emblem doesen't have groundbreaking stories, but objectivly speaking (like looking at story, progression, pacing, character etc.), I can tell you this isn't a high point for the series, heck, shadow dragon got some things better (like the pacing and progression of the story).

To the contrary, I think Awakening's story is cliche, convoluted, with more holes than swiss cheese, which is an apt description considering how cheesy the lines in it are, with some characters that I flat out hate, *cough*I am your father* cough. That being said, most, because I said most, or the story's for the other FE games are pretty much just as awful, to me. As for the writing, that has certainly improved if anything. Time has gone on, the team is more experienced. The quality of writing however, has little to do with the quality of the story once presentation is done. Scrap it down to concepts, as I do anyway. FE: A follows the standard FE formula of teenagers-&-mid-twenties save the world with Dragons in the background. The passing of the story doesn't change the fact that the story from a lot of previous FE games are awful, I love them regardless, but still. I like the story of Sacred Stones and GotHW much more, even if the latter made me scratch my head a little with it's lolpassing and concepts, but when it came to writing, it's nothing I'd give the Neustadt.

That being said, I don't play FE for the story.

  7. Why should we then not pay atention to it and just call it one of the best fe games? I'm think I can hope for an fe game with at least as good writing as the series tend to have.

(If you have said this allready, sorry, I kinda just glimpsed at the last page)

I'm not even going to pretend that any FE title had good writing. Story? Eh, I for one think no, but many will disagree with me. I find that few of them have stories that I would look at more than once. Characters? Sure. FE has had strong characters, many stronger than the ones in Awakening. Writing? No. No, no, no, no. The writing has always been passable at best.

  8. Yes, that orb is Naga's time portal back to the past. Most of the Risen in the current timeline came from the original one, yes. Also, keep in mind that not only did other portals open in different places, but some even opened up in different times, as evidenced by Laurent's C-Support with his father. This means that Risen could be appearing in Ylisse, Plagia, and Valm for much of the foreseeable future. Risen can also be created with dark magic, so there's that too, but as I said, most came from the future.
