Is buying games in the hope that the next game will be something you actually want a good use of your money?

Depends on the situation. In the case of a popular game series taking on a new genre of gameplay for a spinoff, not buying the game sends a message that this is not a desired direction for the series to go in. I would love an FE fighter, so I would prefer to buy the game to say "Yes, this is a direction you should go in, developers," then criticize it loudly and hope other people do the same so a sequel fighter could be done better.

  2. If there's a healer in the game, I'm probably maining them. Elise, L'Arachel, Maribelle, Brady, Elincia, Forrest, and Adean/ Aideen/ Edain are some of my favorite characters in the franchise.

Mages are second priority. Odin's at the top of the list, but Nyx, Celica, Miriel, Sanaki, Lilina, Cecilia, Nimue, and Pent are pretty high up there as well. Never Micaiah, though. I despise her (sorry, Micaiah fans).

Archers that aren't Takumi, Manaketes that aren't Nowi, Laguz that aren't Lyre, Dancers, and Pegasus Knights will definitely get the old college try to see if I enjoy playing them. Also any female Cavaliers that make it in, i.e. Sully or Mathilda. And a lot of other female fighter-types, come to think of it... I'd definitely play the hell out of Charlotte, for example.

And of course, any of the many hot husbandos who may not fit my playstyle but who I will need to take out for a test drive anyway. Y'know. As you do.

  3. I adore Conquest. Everything about it. I can hardly stomach playing Revelation and I will never play Birthright again, but Conquest is outstanding.

There are aspects of other FE games I like better--Genealogy of the Holy War has a lot of my favorite ideas, Binding Blade has a lot of my favorite characters, Path of Radiance might have my favorite storyline--but as a total package, I think Conquest might be my overall favorite FE ever.

  4. Ophelia's Blossoming Mind. "Equip more books, become stronger." There is basically nothing that fits me better.

I suppose if I was to suddenly become an FEFates unit and needed an original personal skill, though, then "Fairy's Gift: CRIT +3 for every staff equipped" would work as well. Equip a bunch of staffs, get better at killing people. Yeeees >:3

  5. It still doesn't solve a lot of her early problems though. She still has to work out of E Clubs, and the times where she isn't behind also usually happen to be times when she's hard to use (see: C5 where she's WTD on every enemy, C8 where she's slowed by sand) which makes getting past E even more of a pain, especially before Hinata joins and largely beats her at her niche.

If you're still planning to use her after Hinata joins, the club becomes more relevant, but she still seems to require some focus in C4 (where Kaze wants levels so he can help in C5), C6 (where she can, as pointed out, nab Camilla and Leo with some setup) and C7 to even be really usable.

I did specify "people who intend to use Rinkah."

I'm not saying Ryoma's Practice-club makes her a god or anything. It just seems like a tool that might help get around one of her more prominent weaknesses. If you're putting the effort into Rinkah anyway, it's good to know that grinding her that one Axe rank can (operative word here being "can," not "does") bump her MT from 5 to 16 instead of just from 5 to 6.

  6. Allowing visitor shenanigans opens up a new bag of issues, though.

I think it's still worth discussing. It doesn't have to be taken into consideration for a tier list or anything, but people who intend to use Rinkah should still be informed that the option is there if they can take advantage of it (assuming it's worth taking advantage of, perhaps by going Blacksmith for the +7 base SKL). At least, that's my opinion.

  7. Her problem lies more in her low offense since clubs kinda suck as a Weapon, she's got E rank with no time to build it, and her strength could use some help. Her speed isn't an issue either but eh. It's nice to take hits, but even nicer if you can kill what hit you, y'know?

I don't know how rare it is, but if you can get a Ryoma's Practice-club, that has 16 MT and is only D-Rank. Downsides are crap accuracy and -5 SPD, but Rinkah has great SKL and SPD, so she might be able to make do anyway. And of course, if she hits A-Rank, the Warrior Club has her name written all over it.

  8. Sounds good. There are like 0 effective damage enemies in Hosh anyway so dual weakness doesn't matter. The only thing I wonder is how Avatar is operating pre-Dark Knight. Are you gonna switch to Dark Mage to build tome rank? But that could offset strength. Will you stay as a Prince to keep working on swords rank/build strength? Seems good since Avatar will have a good Str and Mag growth, but then you'll enter Dark Knight with E tomes.

To be fair, Nohr Prince/ss has +15% STR growth, and Dark Mage has +10%. You probably wouldn't offset your STR very much at all.

  9. She'll want Luna, because it will be annoying to have her snipe Mag users without Breaking Sky do anything. She will have to marry to Silas to get the skill. Plus, this resolves her bad offensive issues. She should only pair with Silas and no one else. Plus Diamond Strike and Aegis that she can get all in one go. But...Holy Bowman is all she should ever be, period! She can possibly get Luna by mid-game!

I mean, yeah, Luna would be fine, but I don't see why Silas is needed for Setsuna when she can Buddy Hana. Astra ought to work just as well as Luna for killing mages and Flowing Strike should dovetail nicely with her high SPD. Hana could also get Setsuna Line of Death; since I would think you'd be trying to keep Setsuna out of enemy attack range anyway (perhaps with the Expert Yumi's 3 range?) that might be a nice boost to her offense too. Luna WOULD work better on something like a General, but even with Luna is Setsuna likely to kill a General? (Genuine question, I don't know if she is or not.)

  10. Regarding luninareph, the "advantages" you gave to adventurer!odin were pretty pitiful. So he has slightly better magic, that still hardly justifies going through the trouble to make him an adventurer. You get plenty of staff wielders throughout the game (Elise, Felicia, Jacob, Asyura, Izana). I doubt you need one more. But feel free to try it if you want, but don't expect most others to bother. As it is, most people that use him will likely use him within one of his 2 base lines, assuming they bother to use him at all. I want him on the samurai line because of the nostalgia for sword hand. I can't get that satisfaction from adventurer.

Then don't do it. I'm not trying to force people to do anything they don't want to do. I'm simply exploring options.

  11. It's not the worst idea, having Odin as an Adventurer which takes advantage of his hybrid stats while fixing his massive Speed problem not to mention the Shining Bow being much stronger than most tomes and Bows being strong, period, but being at Ch. 26 Nohr and having only two units married, I'd say the viability of even getting Odin into the Adventurer class is a bit of a problem. >.> Admittedly, I didn't plan for supports until Ch. 10, but the prospect of getting him into Outlaw by Lv. 10 or even Lv. 15 so he can start fixing his Speed problem while working on his Bow rank seems...difficult in that light.

If you want an Odin that doesn't suck, I'd say he's better off as a Samurai -> Trueblade. If you've got 2500G to spare early on, you can make him reclass the very second he joins and work on his Speed + Sword rank, quickly picking up Flowing Strike and Vantage along the way while putting the Dark Mage's Bind to good use. As a Trueblade, Swordfaire will mostly offset the Magic loss from not going Adventurer. Won't really miss staff use as you have enough healers as-is. You'll also get to take greater advantage of his high Skill and Luck.

If you're really bent on using him as an Adventurer, you can try Samurai -> Adventurer, but that's a lot of re-classing and screws with weapon ranks.

Just...whatever you do, if you intend to use him, keep him out of Dark Mage. I speak from experience with a Lv. 15 Sorcerer Odin. >.>

Hmm... that's entirely possible. I thought if you started working on Odin x Zero support right away, you'd be able to reclass quite quickly--I believe it's even a "fast" support?--but in the non-grinding Nohr, it might still take more time than I'm expecting.

  12. Then you should say nothing rather than post Mighty Bow/Shining Bow again and again.

Tempting, but I like the sound of my own voice too much.

If your going to go to the trouble to use him, why not reclass over to trueblade/weapon master? Thats at least somewht unique for Nohr. Why bother with adventurer when Zero does that better anyways?

There are a few reasons to consider the option.

    1) In comparison to Zero, Odin will have equal STR and better MAG. Zero will have more SPD, but if both are Adventurers we're talking 2-4 points more SPD, not the staggering 8-SPD difference between Dark Mage!Odin and Outlaw!Zero. Odin also has waaay more SKL and LUC. So any enemy both would double, Odin will do equal or more damage with a better chance to crit.

    2) More MAG means Odin will use staffs better than Zero as well.

    3) Odin's offensive growths are shaky. Trueblade has +10% STR growth and +5% MAG growth. Adventurer has +5% STR and +15% MAG. Ergo he has a slightly better chance of gaining offensive stats in Adventurer.

    4) Seeing as Odin's offensive stats are shaky, bonus damage versus fliers via bows gives him a boost he won't get by using swords. Also, bows have higher MT than comparative swords (i.e. Bronze Sword = 4 MT while Bronze Bow = 6 MT).

    5) If Odin's offense turns out poorly in Trueblade, he's screwed. If his offense turns out poorly in Adventurer, he can still staffbot. And if you want to use Jakob or Elise as offensive units, you may need more staff-users to take their place, which Odin can fill.

    6) Odin has bad SPD and RES. Both Trueblade and Adventurer have +20% SPD, but Adventurer has +20% RES and Trueblade only has +10%.

    7) Trueblade's Pair Up bonuses are +5 SPD and +3 LUC. Adventurer's are +4 SPD, +2 RES, and +1 MOV. You may prefer the MOV depending on what you're doing with Odin and/or his spouse.

  13. If the only thing you want a Adventurer to do is combat, Adventurer!Zero is even worse than Sorcerer!Odin or Trueblade!Odin unless he is shooting fliers.

But you are less interested in "Adventurer!Odin < Adventurer!Zero".

To be good units, Adventurers should do something else.

Yes, I did intend on using the staff-wielding, anti-flying class to use staffs and shoot fliers. I figured that was obvious enough that I didn't need to say it in the original post.
