  1. So, uh... had this huge thing typed out, nearly finished, and poof. So, that's a thing. I will not be retyping it (I'm mobile atm) but will do a short rundown. I chose Revenant Knight for practicality, Strategist for best (healing for Lunatic,) and Great Knight for my preference. Clearly GK is kinda, uh, not something Leo should ever class into, which is why I like it. Looove putting characters into classes they don't belong. I think he'd do well because Bolt Axe, Levin Sword, A rank Lances with great strength growth. Decent resistance with great defense and mobility. By no means great or optimal, but fun and doable.

HAHAHA, I love it XD I also enjoy classing units into classes they're not supposed to be: in my games, you will definitely become a mage unless you are a small, pretty, fragile little girl, in which case you will become a ravening axe-wielding berserker and cut everything to death. I hope you rewrite your giant post about Leo-as-Great-Knight sometime, I'd love to see it :)

If The Nosforatu tome returns then by far Sorcerer is the best choice for him, which should allow him to hit harder and more often than a dark knight version.

Nosferatu does return, but you are aware of how hard they hit it with the nerf bat, right? It can't double attack, it can't crit, and it reduces your AVO by 20. (All of which combined still manages just to bring it down to "the same level as everything else," which kinda goes to show how broken it used to be.) By all means Leo is a great candidate to use it, since he actually has okay HP and DEF and doesn't rely on evade-tanking to stay alive, but it's not the be-all end-all anymore considering how hard its offensive power got cut.

  2. Well, there are a couple different ways to look at it.

On the one hand, Leo in no way needs Revenant Knight. He has everything he needs in his base classes and Dark Knight is basically ideal for him. The skills are good, but Leo can easily get enough useful skills out of his default classes to fill his slots. So there's no real need to go Revenant Knight.

On the other hand, if you did really want to go Revenant Knight, Belka's not the worst choice for Foleo's mother. She'll increase his SKL--one of the stats he has trouble with--and she actually has some MAG growth to pass down, unlike some candidates. She doesn't penalize his max MAG and she gives him some good help with DEF, which he greatly appreciates, and she'll also pass Revenant Knight to him, which is nifty. (More Deadly Breath!)

Of course, on the first hand again, Leo already hits Foleo's max SPD by -2 and Belka decreases it by another -2. It's true that -4 max SPD is a pretty big disadvantage.

But to counter by returning to the second hand, FEFates seems more lenient about SPD than possibly any previous FE game. For one thing, Foleo doesn't need to worry about SPD if he's serving a Battle Command/ Rally/ Staffbot support role. It also makes little difference if he's glued to somebody else as a support unit. There's also Defensive Formation, which he can easily get by buddying to Ignis. Furthermore, there are spells like Odin's Black-tome and Rainbow Sage's Ink Painting that are very powerful but prevent double attacks, period, so Foleo's SPD is irrelevant for wielding them. SKL, however, is important to make sure that one hit connects, and Belka helps Foleo out with that. So that's good.

So, if getting Revenant Knight on Leo is important to you, then you can rest assured that Belka!Foleo is not going to be crippled in terms of usefulness. However, Leo doesn't need it, so you might prefer having Foleo get stats from Felicia or Nyx instead. You can go either way; both seem viable. At least, I think they do.

  3. I think it's pretty difficult to argue any class is better for Leo than Dark Knight, and I did vote for Dark Knight for most of the answers, but I'd like to make a secondary case for Revenant Knight. So I'm going to argue for Revenant Knight even though I voted for Dark Knight, if that makes sense.

Due to his personal tome, you really want to keep Leo as something that can use tomes. He has crazy MAG, but he also has pretty good STR, so if you're not using him in a hybrid class you feel like you're wasting him. His "weaknesses," such as they are, are 25% STR, 35% SKL, and 30% DEF. So ideally, here, we're looking for something that will cover his SKL and DEF while still giving him access to Tomes.

Enter Revenant Knight. At the penalty of slightly lowered max stats across the board, you get 15% STR and MAG and 10% SKL and DEF to pull up Leo's growths where he needs them, as well as an A-rank physical weapon. Admittedly, it's axes and not swords, so Leo will have to build the rank on them--impractical in a non-grinding Nohr playthrough--and it also comes with only a B in Tomes instead of an A. However, Brynhildr is E-rank and Leo doesn't really need any other Tome, so the B-Tomes isn't too crushing, and as compensation Leo gets flight, which is a powerful tool.

Again, I do think Dark Knight is probably better overall. But Revenant Knight looks like a solid secondary option worth considering.

  4. So... I don't have the game yet, so I can't say for sure, but I would like to tentatively suggest that you're looking at Hinata wrong. I say this mostly because you suggest his SPD can be fixed, which seems unlikely to impossible unless somebody seduces the RNG into consenting to it. But that is, I think, the point. Hinata is supposed to be doubled, because he's intended to be a tanky counter character.

My theory is, Hinata has Oni Savage as his second class set because he's intended to pick up Counter from Shura to supplement his passive. If you Parallel Seal him into an Oni Savage immediately upon recruitment, he'll have 75% HP growth and 65% DEF growth, which is nuts for Hoshido; promote him into a Blacksmith for 75% HP and 60% DEF, then dip into Shura later to pick up Counter and even more DEF if needed. Buddy him to Subaki for Eastern Heart (also, Mirror Strike is good when he needs to take out a mage) and MAYBE pick up Strength Seal/ Line of Death/ Swordfaire from Samurai promotions if you want (he has crap SKL as well as SPD, so Astra is probably not worth the effort since it'll rarely proc). End as Shura for more DEF or Blacksmith for more HP and swords. You now have a self-healing Countering tank who increases his damage after he's been beaten up enough to proc his passive, which will happen pretty easily because people will double him, which just speeds them closer to death.

As I say, I don't know how viable this is in practice. Maybe the designers did just seriously undertune him by mistake. But I think that was what they were going for, and the logic seems sound. It definitely seems better than trying to fix Hinata's godawful 15% SPD growth.

  5. I find that while I like MORE units on the Hoshido side, I am much fiercer in my love of the fewer units I like on the Nohr side.

    Hoshido:

    1. Rinkah

    2. Asama

    3. Setsuna

    4. Takumi

    5. Nishiki

    6. Yukimura

    7. Kanna

    8. Shinonome

    9. Kisaragi

    10. Mitama

    Nohr:

    1. Elise

    2. Jakob

    3. Effie

    4. Odin

    5. Zero

    6. Nyx

    7. Camilla

    8. Belka

    9. Flannel

    10. Foleo

Also, Mikoto (who is not playable yet but whom I hope will be) and Draj (who is Capture-only and therefore I'm not sure where to put her).

  6. Favorite Character(s) Shared? Jakob! F!Kamui, Silas, Kaze, Anna, and maybe Felicia and Azura, we'll see.

Favorite Nohrians? Elise! Effie, Odin, Zero, Nyx, Camilla, Belka, Flannel, Flora.

Favorite Hoshidans? Mikoto! Rinkah, Sakura, Hana, Subaki, Asama, Setsuna, Hinata, Takumi, Nishiki, Ryoma, Yukimura.

Favorite Kids? Foleo, Mitama, and Kisaragi! Kanna, Dia, Sophie, Midoriko, Shinonome, Grey, Siegbert, Velour, Lutz, Ophelia.

Favorite Captures? Draj! Also Nacht, Banba, and MAYBE Senou and Daichi.

Favorite All-Round? Elise, for sure :)

  7. Saizou: Orochi. Saizou and Grey have insane MAG growth and I just love the idea of making them a family of Exorcists.

Tsukuyomi: Orochi again. Shara REALLY wants Orochi for her mother to boost that awful SKL and keep her MAG high. (Second choice: Oboro.)

Kaze: Effie. She makes Midoriko a beast.

Subaki: Setsuna. She counters Subaki's low SPD and RES, and her lower offensive stats can be compensated for by Matoi's passive.

Jakob: Nyx. I like a magical Dia/Deere, for one thing. For another, they're two of my favorite characters, and I like to pair up characters I like so I can have them Battle Couple it up together :3

  8. Felicia has poor STR and SKL, which in my opinion makes most of her class options shaky at best. Felicia's Ice Tray is a great weapon, but it's not terribly strong and until you find it Felicia's stuck with a bunch of physical kunai working off her poor STR. Simultaneously, however, she can't just go Sorcerer or Strategist easily because of her bad SKL, which Maid can fix... but then you return to the weapon problem.

IMO the best class for Felicia is Exorcist. It has 20% MAG and 10% SKL (no bonus DEF growth, sadly, but Felicia's pretty fragile in most classes anyway) and, obviously, magical weapons for her to use with abandon, as well as retaining her Staff levels and utility. Felicia has great LUC, so she can get good bonus EXP out of Fortune, and Rally Magic fits in nicely with her staff prowess yet fragile defenses. Tomefaire, of course, is obvious. Particularly if she can run through Strategist at some point, Exorcist!Felicia is a great support unit, with Rally Magic/Resistance, Battle Command, and Demoiselle on top of solid MAG and great staff usage.

On Nohr I think Felicia's best option is Strategist. It's not as ideal as Exorcist, but Felicia can gain several levels in Maid during the early part of the game and simply hold off on Second Sealing until Maid's +15% SKL has fixed her SKL problems somewhat. Strategist heavily emphasizes Felicia's strengths at the cost of leaving her weaknesses very prominent, but it gives her tomes and staffs, so she can safely sit behind everybody else with Rally Res, Battle Command, Demoiselle, and staffs and play the part of an uber-support unit who can at least take a potent potshot when safe and/or necessary.

(I still like her best as a Maid, though. Felicia is just such a Maid, it's hard to envision her sincerely being anything else.)

  9. I would say based on everything about Arthur, he was meant to be a Berserker. He is supposed to be the unit that is likely to be crit... but he will definitely crit you. Now this isn't a very good strategy IN GAME, but it is quite useful in PvP.

Based on his personality, I should think he's intended more to be a Hero. Which, incidentally, gives him one fewer base point of SPD than Berserker with the same growth, as well as three more base points of LUC with a 5% growth bonus. It also doesn't reduce his natural CRIT EVA the way Berserker does, plus it gives him more DEF to help soften crits when they appear (as they will, because... Arthur).

If I wasn't going Hero, I would think I'd rather Great Knight him than Berserker him. Give him Sol and Aegis and Diamond Strike, focus on SKL and DEF, and see if you can get tanky enough that critical hits aren't much of a concern, then park him near key points of your assault so your other units can take advantage of his passive. I admit I'm not sure if that's actually better than Berserker!Arthur... but I'm pretty sure Hero!Arthur is preferable to either. At least, that's my opinion.

  10. Flannel has TERRIBLE SKL by base, growth, and class growth, but he has Fighter as his secondary class tree, so if you spend some time as Fighter -> Hero, he should get enough SKL to put that crazy STR to good use. Hero and Garou both fix his SPD, so while he has a low growth he shouldn't lag too far behind there, but he'll always be vulnerable to magic. At least he has a lot of HP to weather enemy mages with.

  11. I don't think there's any better class for him on Hoshido than Great Knight. He has it by default, he doesn't need to build new weapon skill, he retains his mount, and he gets 60% HP and DEF, which is great for Hoshido and makes him one of your few reliable tanking options. Nohr doesn't need him in that role quite as badly, so my gut reaction is Paladin to pull up his RES, but Xander is going to come in as a Paladin already, and unless you don't mind using multiple Paladins (which I don't, actually, I love Paladin) it's probably not where you want to send Silas.

An unorthodox option that seems like it has potential is Puppeteer Silas. It has comparable stat caps to Paladin, better RES growth, a lot of SKL for Luna, and pretty good weapon selection. Of course it has the heavy disadvantage of Silas needing to build weapon levels on the non-grinding Nohr, but the nice thing is, Silas can use the low-level support bows and kunai (i.e. Fruit Knife, Violin Bow, Hard Bread, Prayer Candle, etc.) and reap some nice support or utility benefits while still holding a pretty steady tanking position and adding in Luna procs for nice bonus damage despite lower weapon MT. Since he'll be tanky-ish, Copycat Puppet also works well, giving you the ability to double your tanking with a unit that can protect its shared health pool better than some.

  12. Grey has pretty ridiculous MAG. Between Saizou's 45% MAG and Grey's 50%, even a mother with 0% MAG to pass down herself results in a Grey with 32% MAG growth, which is higher than Asama, Oboro, or Azura. I kinda want to marry Saizou to Orochi too, just so I can make Saizou and Grey Exorcists for the hell of it XD

  13. Matoi at least has her personal skill to help compensate for bad bases or growths. If any kid is going to be shafted on stats, Matoi is one of the best choices since she can spin it to her advantage.

I'm a little torn on Tsubaki + Line of Death. On the one hand, he wants to try and evade-tank anyway, so he'd hopefully be avoiding Line of Death's downside most of the time. And it would definitely help pick up his offense if he can't double. But on the other hand, if he's SPD-screwed and isn't doubling, he's also got lower AVO, meaning he's more likely to get hit. So there's a fine SPD-based line between "where Line of Death is useful" and "where Line of Death is hurting more than it's helping." On the other hand, if you're deciding to just keep him out of the action as a Golden Kite and let him just pinpoint-bomb single units on the ally turn and stay out of harm's way on the enemy turn, then Line of Death is perfect. On the other other hand, though, Hoshido has a lot of very fragile units, so giving Tsubaki the ability to be one of your tanks may be more useful than making him yet another fragile bomber.

In my eyes, the "ideal" Tsubaki has stacked all the AVO he can, but also has the HP and DEF to eat a hit or two when his AVO fails him and then pick himself back up the next turn after being healed. So to me, Line of Death doesn't quite fit with what I think he should do. My ideal Tsubaki setup would probably be Flowing Strike, Vantage, Eastern Heart, Mirror Strike, and either Astra or Sol, depending on path and availability... I think.

  14. In Invisible Kingdom he can also either A+ Zero or Romance Nyx I believe and both have access to Dark Mage, Tsubaki can spend some time as Sorcerer for Vengeance in the case he has HP shaved off him. He can make a good support unit too with Sun God AND possible staff utility not to mention access to Strength seal from Weapon Master. He also has Eastern Heart from Pegasus Knight to help keep his HP at full.

IIRC Buddy Seals only give you access to your A+ Support's base class, so A+ing Zero would get Tsubaki Outlaw, not Dark Mage. Anyway, I wouldn't recommend Vengeance. Tsubaki wants to avoid getting hit at all costs, and if he does get hit, he needs to get healed ASAP, so his entire design revolves around minimizing the use for Vengeance. Sol and Eastern Heart would be much preferable IMO.

However, if Tsubaki can indeed A+ Zero, then he could become an Adventurer, giving him bows, staffs, and +20% SPD/RES growth all at the same time. That would be pretty nifty.

You know what, other than having to build up weapon ranks, Subaki x Luna could make Subaki a fairly tanky Hero… he has Swordfaire access (although depending on practicalities you might not pull out too many level 15 promoted skills in one file), which in principle can be transferred over to Hero.

Hero has HP and SKL growths that complement his bases…. it also has SPD growths, which could help his speed at least stink less than it already does….

And he could combine potentially (as another option) Flowing Strike + Perfectionist + Axebreaker to really mess up enemy axe users… and Sol would actually help restore Perfectionist at times…. and Luna could likewise use a Flowing Strike + Axebreaker + Swordfaire combo if she wanted to…

IMO Tsubaki makes a better Trueblade than Hero. He already has good HP and DEF; what he needs is more SPD and RES, or, more specifically, more AVO and RES. Trueblade has better SPD, offers base AVO, and gives RES instead of DEF growth.

Still, yes, he would become pretty tanky against physicals as a Hero, I think, and there's only a 5% SPD growth difference between Hero and Trueblade (although the free +10 AVO is hard to replace). And Sol definitely compliments Perfectionist beautifully, considering Tsubaki's SKL.

  15. I think it's also worth mentioning that Tsubaki has a good skill growth and cap that everyone just seems to be ignoring.

Very true, which is useful with Astra, which can help to pull up his offense if his SPD is failing and he can't double, which is another good reason to go Trueblade for at least a few levels. I don't think he has natural access to any other skills his SKL is useful for, but if you marry him to Luna on the Invisible Kingdom path and Marriage Seal him Sol, he'll be able to heal himself if he gets hit, which would be GREAT. Aegis or Pavise from F!Kamui would be cool options as well, or Basara's Breaking Sky.

  16. Yeah, I'm going to have an excellent time calculating exact levels to switch up on Fixed mode to make sure Odin has adequate Mag, Speed, Def, Str and still ends up with the right skills and class. Like I'm shooting for a tanky-ish Revenant Knight with Vantage/Sol [Lazwald A+]/Deadly Breath/Overbearing/Vengeance. Possibly Bowbreaker instead of Deadly Breath.

Oooh, seems like fun :D I might have to try that too, I like the sound of that.
