  1. This would be very fun, but there would be an issue as most Lord units use swords. I assume throwing in fan favorites would compensate. This game should be properly made, however, with a lot of cinematics, one-on-one duels, and epic sequences. Yeah, one-on-one duels. It would be really awesome if there was a slight integration which made one-on-ones more involved then just staring and hoping for RNG, like button sequences to set off abilities or the like. Final Fantasy did this amazingly two times, Dissidia, and Record Keeper, neither of which are turn-based but still are great games, draw some inspiration from there.

Also, if you are a real person, I apologize, but be aware that you, PranksterDragon, have made a grand total of one topic, so you look like either Nintendo, or a joke I am only posting this because Nintendo recently took interest in Midnight Sun, so I assume they are monitoring this site, and hopefully will take note of this. *cough*

  2. Not really. I know a lot more about copyright law in regards to books and music, but essentially they can make a case that the patch is violating their "intellectual copyright" of the Fire Emblem series, kind of like the lawsuit that Emblem Saga got into (which was renamed to TearRing Saga, but still got sued regardless). It doesn't actually matter whether or not a court of law will uphold of it or not, so long as the argument exists, people will take the massive company of Nintendo of America over some hacker (no insult to you, that's just how they view it). Yes, we all know what the situation really is, but they don't really care. YouTube has been experiencing this kind of Fair Use abuse by big companies for years now. I am surprised that they didn't send you a "cease and desist" order.

As to why they're doing it, it's because more FE fan games means less fan desire to obtain other ones, like the GBA games through the eShop, or Fates, or the upcoming mobile game.

  3. Cool, can do @havoc, though to have him just pop in for one turn then leave with one bow use left, it's kinda weird that when you find him again several chapters later he still has that one shot, and also for the player to notice that he has one shot he'd have to exist on the map for at least a turn but then it's possible an enemy will attack him and he'll use his one shot then later he gets it back?

does the critical boost only affect him or both units?

Don't know how the maps work, but I envisioned he shows up too far away for enemies to hit, possibly not even for an enemy phase to occur, but if it makes sense to give him a full bow, than reduce that to single shot in his recruitment chapter, than do it. I didn't think about the crit boost working that way, but game theory usually assumes an even playing field, so his boost would affect his opponent as well. He might want a bit of extra LCK than, to keep him from being a complete liability

And, as long as I am posting, for final battle quotes:

Havoc: Life has no prize for runner-up! Let's go!

Fenix: ...Only I can escape death.

  4. Here's Havoc, the sniper!

    post-14069-0-43219700-1461009821_thumb.png

    Affinity: Wind / Class: Sniper

Bio: A smooth talking left-handed archer who prattles about "game theory."

Personal Skill: Zero Sum: If Havoc can kill his opponent with a critical, crit+10, turning the fight into a zero-sum game. One winner. One corpse.

Havoc favors SPD and SKL over DEF and STR. Highest stat is SKL.

Level-up quotes : Low: “Zemo is laughing at me right now”, Mid: “I cut, I choose!”, High: “Not even an irrationalist can stop me!”

Death Quote: "Game ... over ..."

I think it’d be cool if he shows up on an early level (non recruitable) and on a later level.

Early level, Havoc appear on Turn 2: Havoc’s inventory is a single Silver Bow with 1 shot left.

Havoc: This is unfortunate. So many enemies, and only one shot. I’m afraid this isn’t looking to be zero-sum. (Havoc leaves)

    Recruitment level: Same inventory

Pre-Battle: Havoc: This is ... unfortunate. I need another bow before this snaps.

    Recruitment:

Main: ... Do I remember you from somewhere?

Havoc: Of course! I’m Havoc the Trickshot, at your service. Ordinarily, I'd gladly join you for a small financial fee, however I seem to be running dreadfully low on weapons.

(If Main is carrying a bow)

Havoc: Ah! Perhaps ... that is a bow you're carrying? I do say, you can't use that so that is of a minimum use to you, however being that I'm in a slight predicament, that bow happens to a maximum use for me. Could I ... have it?

    Main: I guess …

Havoc: Tell you what! I'll help you win this fight. Why, I'll even do it left handed!

Post-Battle: Havoc: While I do enjoy zero-sum games, I feel that this partnership has reached an end. I'll find you again if I can find some conceivable benefit.

Main: Are you going to need that?

Havoc: Ah, you want your bow back? Then how do you expect me to... Fine. I'll join you, but keep me well supplied with bows!

    Main: Um …

  5. So, Fenix is done!

For a personal skill, I'd like "Don't Fear the Reaper" - avoid % increased as life is lost.

    Working on Havok now.

Level Up (if this is actually a thing.) :

1-2 - "Death is catching up ... this isn't good."

3-4 - "I'll die at this rate. Must do better."

5-6 - "Another one bites the dust ... but not me."

7-8 - "Death is the debt I'm never paying!"

    post-14069-0-11464000-1460138959.png

  6. Uh, what's Havok...?

Sounds good, though, yeah I always appreciate when mugs are supplied--even getting out of having to recolor and format frames is nice. Also, preference for Musashi's stats?t to the game as a whole than characters)

Sorry, I switched his name to Havok halfway. Musashi is after Miyamoto Musashi (greatest SamuraI ever), Havok is after Nick "Havok" Parker (C&C Renegade).

I was thinking level 1 Sniper, low Str, Def; high Skl, Spd. Stats themselves would depend on whether he's a crutch character, extra sniper, or core character. Think Shinnon vs Louise.

  7. This may be a good time for me to learn spriting, than. Here's another character.

    Name: Musashi

    Class: Sniper

(Musashi begins the map a single Silver Bow with 1 shot left)

Pre-Battle: Havok: This is ... unfortunate. I need another bow before this snaps.

    Recruitment:

    Main: ...

Havok: Ordinarily, I'd gladly join you for a small financial fee, however I seem to be running dreadfully low on weapons.

(If Main is carrying a bow)

Havok: Ah! Perhaps ... that is a bow you're carrying? I do say, you can't use that so that is of a minimum use to you, however being that I'm in a slight predicament, that bow happens to a maximum use for me. Could I ... have it?

    Main: ...

Havok: Of course I'll help. I'll even do it left handed!

Post-Battle: Havok: While I do enjoy zero-sum games, I feel that this partnership has reached an end. I'll find you again if I can find some conceivable benefit.

    Main: ...

Havok: Your bow back? Then how do you expect me to... Fine. I'll join you, but keep me well supplied with bows!

Bio: A smooth talking left-handed archer who prattles about "zero-sum."

  8. Fenix sounds cool, a neat take on a thief. Got a mug?

Also, just pointing this out, while I expected this to happen, 6 out of 8 characters so far use either swords or dark magic--7/8 if you count backstories, and the only one who doesn't is a boss! Swords and dark magic are cool, I'm totally fine with adding more, but if people have some more variety in classes, that's cool too! (anything from any of the GBA FEs is fair game, even modified takes on them)

Give Fenix an axe or a lance, then. I think people would enjoy playing an axe thief. And, while my literary skills are quite excellent I have yet to learn how to hack, so unfortunately, no mugs. I do envision him with a skull mask, though. Possibly worn like a baseball cap.

  9. Name: Fenix

    Class: Thief

Bio: Thief who wants to steal death itself

Recruitment Dialogue: (The "..." represents main character remarks)

Fenix: I've noticed you're careful. You take care not to lose any allied soldiers.

    ...

Fenix: You're scared of Death. That's okay. I'm not scared, though. I'm jealous.

    ...

Fenix: Death is the greatest thief to have ever lived, did you know? No one can stop him. I'll help you, if you help me.

    ...

Aseir: One day, I'm going to steal Death. These fools... They can't stop him. But you ... you're a bit better at stopping him. I'll join you, for the time being.

Death Quote: So Death ... is the better of the two of us.

If you want, I can also give you a game-theory based Swordmaster.

  10. I've just recently heard of / played Raidiant Historia. Amazing game,, with a better time travel mechanic then Majora's Mask

The unsung hero of RTS games is Command and Conquer Red Alert 2: Yuri's Revenge. I have never seen this game mentioned or brought up anywhere online, outside of C&C, and everyone there focuses on Tiberium 3 or Generals.

C&C RA2: Yuri's Revenge is not like it's successor in the insanity factor, but is a solid tactical strategy game nonetheless. With mind control.

RA3 too, for that matter. You'd think a RTS where you shrink ray enemy tank to run them over, has a anime girl as a commando, uses genetically engineered bears, and time travel would have more notoriety, but no...

  11. As a veteran of FFT, (refering to Tactics, not Advance titles) i'd say thus: the main playable character are Ramza, Agrias, and Mustadio. Sure there's Alicia and Lavin (and Radd), as well as later game recruits like Rapha, Marach, TG Cid, Meliadoul, Beowulf, Reis. Plus the easter eggs from other games (Balthier, Cloud, Luso). Aside from that, your 24 man (+ monster) is generics!

Fire Emblem, you're recruiting allies non stop over the game, not once per level set. Every character has a name, and a reason, whereas Tactics you just drop into the mercenary guild and hire a generic. Who you don't care if they die.

  12. And thank you for your kind offer. I'm afraid we won't need any extra help for the supports though. Despite the huge amount of work required, the plan is to keep the writer bias to the minimum, and there's some concrete risk of having different writing styles and different characterisation if the writers are many. I'd like to write all of them just with Ashley (after all these years he knows the characters even better than me, probably, haha) but should we fail in our attempt, I'll sure ask for your help

I actually take your position on this one. Dividing characters among multiple authors is sketchy at best. Still, thought I'd offer. Least I could do for such a great hack.

  13. "Go with Faratrass to Midbar"

I actually just got that reference. Alfred, your ability to use obscure references is amazing. Are there supports? I haven't checked via turngrind (my play style is horrible for supports to naturally crop up), because if there are, I'd definitely grind for them. If there aren't yet, I readily lend my typing hands to the cause, I'm actually quite a good fantasy writer. I can't write fanfic though, so don't expect to see anything from me there.

  14. the principle reason was over slavery, with other reasons flowered over that. don't play yourself into thinking it was otherwise.

Life is not that simple. Don't pretend it is.

@blah the Prussian: I feel like we aren't talking to each other. Obviously, the South did not have a legal right to secede. Guess what? Neither did America when they wrote the Constitution which overthrew the Article of Confederation. The Articles of Confederation explicitly required an unanimous vote, which the Constitution did not have. I am saying that the South had a moral right to secede, because (land-wise) they represented half of America, and were rendered powerless. Also, the slaves definitely would have a moral right to revolt against their masters. I never said anything against that.

In terms of my position on voting - sidetracked. But there's a clear difference between telling someone "No." and telling someone "We have free education. Pass economics, American History, and politics at high-school level and we'd love for you to vote."

  15. right

so you agree that secession was a mistake

Now is when I go "What? I'm saying the exact opposite" and then you go "Ha, but by your own logic, you agreed that seceding is bad! QED!"

    Did I?

I think people who don't have a firm grasp of economics, and politics should not have a say in how the country is run, because quite frankly, those kinds of people don't have a clue as to what would actually be good for America, and care more about what would be good for them.

No, I don't see it. Yes, people seceded to keep slaves which was definitely selfish and immoral but the principle reason is because Abraham Lincoln got elected without the Southern vote. The South was looking after the South! Unless you're a communist who believe that the more populous North should have full control over the South, you cannot deny the South was acting in the interests of the South. The thirteen colonies did the same, they just happened to get lucky.

If you see this, please read my earlier comment, because I've added several additional comments.

  16. More will be posted, but for now, I'd like to address a point.

I am not defending slavery nor exonerating it. I am not trying to justify it by claiming the North was in the wrong too, so two wrongs make a right. What I am saying i that the North did not have a moral high ground on which to criticize the South. I will not argue that there were certain people who made up a fraction of slave-owners that abused their slaves which is unquestionably evil and wrong, and from a moral standpoint deserved to be stopped.

@Sane Young Dog Man: Morality of 3/5 Compromise. I fail to see your point. Even with the weight, the South lost, so there is not an argument to be made. As for Southern rights? Well, America is a democracy. It should not be possible for the North to impose a president without some Southern consent. It really boils down to the principle of the matter which is the South felt they were kicked out of a so-called democracy. I do not believe there is justification required aside from that.

@blah the Prussian: Ah, Congress. The horribly bloated bureaucratic origination ... that also requires the majority. Incidentally, while I'm not opposed to slaves voting per se, I am opposed to voting in general. By which I mean the general populous voting. Not that I believe in the one percent, I think people who don't have a firm grasp of economics, and politics should not have a say in how the country is run, because quite frankly, those kinds of people don't have a clue as to what would actually be good for America, and care more about what would be good for them. This is getting seriously sidetracked though. Regarding your point on Vicksburg, I will concede, however.

Rebels from a lawful government, well, now we get into some deliciously gray areas. Yes, seceding is unlawful, however an invasion of a foreign country is also unlawful. Most importantly, how else does the South respond to a loss of all their power? The right of a democratic government to rule only comes about through the protection and consent of it's citizens, so when the citizens feel that they are not getting protection, or giving consent, then it could be argued they have a moral obligation to rebel. I will not argue that, however, I have enough on my plate.

@Hylian Air Force: In regards to your statement about the Civil War (War of Northern Aggression), your points are excellent. I will not disagree with your slavery points either. You had an intelligent comment, and you made it. Thank you. My response to that is at the beginning of my post.

And no one answered my question, by the way...
