  1. Are you mainly referring to how nobody wants badly written LGBT characters, or LGBT characters in general? If it's the latter: What thread have you been reading - and apparently moderating? One look at the poll disproves that entire sentence; so does any actual reading through the topic.
  2. To be 5000% clear: By "LGBT Characters" I mean characters who are treated & written like human beings, who just happen to like their same gender or both genders instead of the other gender. I do not mean "flamboyant" men or "man hating" women. (Ugh, Valkyria Chronicles, why...) I also don't want the cast to be brimming with pride. I just want LGBT minorities represented in the cast. While I share the worries about the quality of the writers at IS, I have hope that the new writer they've been touting does a better job, and by extension, LGBT characters would be handled responsibly.
  3. First Paragraph: That's what I mean by the last bolded line in my previous post. We want well rounded characters who happen to be LGBT. That doesn't need to be their entirety, and in a perfect world, it wouldn't be. Second Paragraph: I wish I could have explained it so concisely - thank you very much for that. That would be perfect.
  4. I'd be fine with 3-4 LGBT characters. I'd be fine with 1 character. As long as there's representation and selection for LGBT players, it's a step in the right direction, and one that Nintendo has promised it would make. With 1 Gay, 1 Lesbian, and 1 or 2 Bisexual characters - just like Valkyria Chronicles, oddly enough (1 of each) - it'd have the options open to the player, while not locking out more than 1 character romance per gender. It would also remain realistic according to current statistics. Would THAT be an admirable compromise? (It's certainly better than the Dragon Age option...) Thing is, I'm not wanting LGBT character just for them to show up, say "I'm Gay!" then leave. No. I'm saying I want them because straight players have gotten nothing but good characters and canon supports. Why can LGBT players not get a few good characters who they can identify with just as well? This goes for skin color and other features too (as long as it works with the setting.) Legend of Korra of all things used this well, having people from all skin tones and even one woman with no arms as a major character. I'm not saying "Fire Emblem: If" needs to go that far, but would it be so bad if there were 1 Gay, 1 Lesbian, and 1 or 2 Bisexual characters on the roster? It's a feature we want for some of the characters; NOT all we want the characters to be.
  5. I was originally thinking 3 - 6, it that balances things out more. Either way, only 2-3 would be locked out from the player in any one playthrough. Lesbians and Bi would work for Women and be, Gays and Bi would work for Men. Only Lesbians would be locked out for Men and only Gays would be locked out for women. Meaning max 2 - 3 in a single playthrough. I always disliked the way they handled Tharja's character. I got very excited when I saw the supports were the same, but crashed right back to earth when I saw that for some reason, the 'less natural' femalexfemale route couldn't end in an S. There is a bit of a dilemma there, but I hardly think it would be as noticeable as you are stating. Depending on gender, only 2-3 would be locked out from romance in any one playthrough. That's less than LGBT players have been locked out of in the history of the series and in games in general. That first sentence is - quite frankly - extremely rude and immature. And Regardless, it's not meant to support my position. I'm happy with the outcome, but I don't need any additional support from a random internet poll to know that all love is equal, regardless of gender. I'm simply happy more people know that than the opposite here in Serenes Forest. Regarding the rest of your post, I want them to treat the characters with respect first and foremost, but even if the writing for everyone is bad - like I've seen some people arguing it is in Awakening and such - I'd want them to include LGBT minorities, as it's the right thing to do. Even if they're written as badly as all the straight characters. It would mean a lot to have them included.
  6. Responding to the bolded points: What? No, seriously, what? How can you support them in real life, yet not support devs creating a well written gay character like Dorian? Also, Social Justice is not a slang term, and it's definitely not an insult. It has the word justice in the term because it's meant to be just that: Just. If you haven't already noticed, it's leaking into the rest of the world too, real life and fiction. As long as it's well written and not rude or for comedic purposes only, why would you not support it if you 'support real' gays and lesbians?
  7. Ahahaha - Nishiki/10. 100% Correct. If there do end up being LGBT characters in the game, there's no reason they shouldn't be as well written or better than any of the other supports. No no no no no no no please no. There's a reason that "Queerbaiting" is a term. (See "Free!", "Hibike! Euphonium", "Madoka Magica", and more.) Like listed in the first post, and explained in a later one: having an equal mix of 6-9 Lesbian, Gay, and Bisexual characters would be more than enough to be inclusive while not outright filling the cast with bisexuals or "blocked" romances. (Characters who players may want to romance, but are unable to due to a mismatch in gender/orientation. Ex. Lesbian Nyx and Male MU.) Hence why I did not include any middle option. Too often is this the case. Nope, nobody needs to be offended - religious reasons or otherwise, it's not your life. Nobody is making you change your sexuality. (Not that that's even possible.) +1. Oh. Oh no. But seriously - to respond to your second sentence, that's why gay marriage was just made legal in Ireland and is being made legal in more and more of the world. So these lovely, real relationships can lead to marriage just like any straight relationship can. Making everyone bisexual would be pandering at best, and extremely insensitive at worst. Assuming a roster of around 30-35 characters, having 6-9 of them being a mix of Lesbian, Gay, and Bisexual would be inclusive, respectful, and realistic, while also avoiding the issue of blocked romances. (Which, may I point out, has been happening to LGBT players since forever.) That's because of the children. That won't be an issue that time, and can't be used as an excuse this time/ Very well said. I'm rather shocked that the "No." votes are above 10% - just goes to show, there still are people who think that way. Hopefully this changes as it becomes more and more legal and normal. A+, very well said. I don't mind Polygon. They're pretty okay, in my book. Thank you, Admin. I agree with this entirely. The best example of this would be Severa and Kjelle. Severa is all but foaming at the mouth with the slightest peak of Kjelle's body, but they brush it off as comedy. It's very immature and offputting. It's pretty much agreed on that having everyone be bisexual would be a bad idea. See my 6-9 rule above.
  8. Holy cow. I did not expect this to hit 7 pages before I finished work tonight. I'll go through and multiquote some of you instead of adding another page of just responses. Glad to see that we're 83% to 17% in favor of LGBT supports in a FE game though, I'm happy that Serene's Forest is so inclusive.
  9. This is the common consensus, and one that I agree with. In this sense, I hope they handle it more like Dragon Age Inquisition and less like Valkyria Chronicles. (I'm looking at you Jann.)
  10. This. Also, I'm not getting my hopes up either, but Nintendo did promise they'd be more inclusive, so there's a sliver of a chance. Mmmmmm Rinka.
  11. I perfectly understand what being neutral means - I find you saying that to be rather insulting. Regardless, if it doesn't effect a person, being neutral is a fine option. It does nothing for either side. The only thing that bothers me is that far too often, being neutral could be synonymous with choosing the side of the oppressor/default, rather than actually being neutral and not supporting anyone.
  12. My point came across wrong, I apologize. What I meant is that even if it doesn't affect you, you should support it because it will mean a lot for people who do want it. If it doesn't bother you, then why stop it from reaching people who want it?
  13. That's my exact stance on this. I loved having a Lesbian, Bisexual Male, and Gay character in Valkyria Chronicles. Seeing something similar in "Fire Emblem: If" would be a great thing.
  14. Of course it's not. Thing is though, it's advances like this that can make games exponentially better for LGBT players. Imagine if you were limited to gay relationships in Awakening, even though you may be as straight as can be? It's not very fun. Whether it's your main focus or a nice little extra, it's a positive feature. This applies to anything. People shouldn't whine or rage about any feature too much, really. This wouldn't be any different from the weapon durability being removed or similar "rage-inducing" change. I've updated the poll to include "wouldn't mind"/"would mind" text, and changed the "love" text to "like" for the first option. Just like you, I want it to be portrayed properly, which is why I outlined how that would wok best in the first post.
  15. Then you'd be fine with it. I've updated the polls to include "would mind"/"wouldn't mind" in their wording. You don't have to be LGBT to support it being implemented in a game. I wouldn't have anything less.
  16. I think this goes without saying. Then you'd be fine with it then. I'm not saying that every character needs to be some rarely-heard-of minority orientation or identity. I'm just saying that having 1 or 2 Lesbian, 1 or 2 Gay, and 1 or 2 Bisexual characters would be a very welcome inclusion. 3 - 6 LGBT characters will hardly ruin the game for straight players, and will do wonders for LGBT players.
  17. Punny title intended. I'm not sorry. I'd like to know what the general consensus is among those here on Serenes Forest regarding this issue. Regarding the poll, I have not included an "Undecided Option" as it serves little purpose for a question like this. You're either fine with the inclusion or against it. If you're fine with it, please vote yes, If you are not, please vote no. For clarification, the generally agreed on implementation of LGBT characters in if would be the following:
  18. Oh I know - but it's odd that such a "conservative" nation as Japan and such a conservative company as Nintendo would however indirectly, choose that image as the one to represent the unveiling of the feature in If. (A regular frienship, straight romance, or similar would be fine - nobody was expecting a furiously blushing Elise x Nyx combo.)
  19. "What If" sounds so... so... so... SO silly... I think "If" is short and to the point, it sounds cleaner, and works better for trailers too. Then again Nintendo has proven again and again that they're horrible at naming things.
  20. You may be a lord in this game, but you're also an Avatar, and in being the Avatar, you get access to all character supports, just like in Awakening. However, IF they include LGBT characters, some romances need to be locked out depending on the gender of the Avatar/MU. For example, a lesbian Nyx wouldn't enter a romance with a male MU, just like a Gay Harold wouldn't enter a romance with a female MU. By doing things this way, they respect the sexuality of the player by allowing them to choose their gender and fall for characters of the same gender - but they also respect the entire worldwide LGBT spectrum by acknowledging them and not automatically making everyone romanceable. Doing so would erase the LG and T, skipping right to a very pandering B. Then again, I may just be getting my hopes up and despite their promises, Nintendo could f*ck up again. Only time will tell. (Though I do wonder why they used Nyx and Elise in their Hubba Tester image recently - with blushes no less...)
  21. "My Castle" is an updated and expanded version of the Barracks from Awakening, and works the same way while also incorporating and streamlining shops and resource gathering. I think it's very smart, it's not pandering.
  22. This is such a pointless topic. Nothing wrong, it's a visual trick because of the fabric used around her bust area. Can people stop looking for things to nitpick about? There's more important things to worry about that some issue that only 1 person can seemingly see.
  23. I agree with the possibility that the heart symbols mean that choosing that character will start a support conversation. (or provide the option to) Rather than having to go into its own menu to select someone to have a support conversation with. It would do a lot to streamline the menus in the game if they indeed combine support convos with My Castle. Outside of that, I also really want LGBT characters in the game. The Avatar can be bisexual if the player chooses (or until they choose), but other characters will have set identities and orientations, so if you choose a male MU, you may not be able to romance some females or vice versa. You'd still be able to support with them, but it wouldn't go as far as romance/marriage. I think this would be the best option. It leaves things up to the player while still being inclusive and respectful.
