  1. EDIT: Don't double post. No, it does not have english subtitles for the movies. This statement needs to go in the first post, because it's been repeated a lot of times, and I'm sure the others here are tired of sounding like a cracked record... Why no english subs? We can decode the Nintendo format used to play the video, but since it's a special format that will take time to reverse engineer, we can't encode to that format as of yet. If you want English subbed cutscenes, YouTube has truckloads of them. Go watch them. As soon as the movie format can be freely decoded/encoded, I'm sure we'll see people modding the cutscenes. Until then, just chill and enjoy the japanese pure voice acting, rather than it getting replaced for a dub that really breaks the mood. EDIT 2: Wrong. I have a copy of the Nohr version, and it works fine. You're likely patching it wrong, or the ROMFS Decrypter/Dumper you're using is not respecting the UTF-8 filenames (ie. the Kanji in some of the folders get mangled to #### characters).
  2. Localization from the original Japanese names and all the censoring kills it for me. Why change a nice sounding female name to one that's just a run-of-the-mill western one? The Japanese versions of Fire Emblem show off more cleavage on the ladies in game than the non-Japanese versions. I bet Camilla will get her boobies covered up, and other "revealing" clothes on other characters will get censored too. I will say I'll be happily playing the JPN release with English patch via HANS. I have a question though. With the game's text boxes, what determines what is put at various points in the text? Is it like "%charName %weaponName rank has increased" where '%charName' > Avatar's name and '%weapon' > Weapon you are using? This is before the game actually parses it, so I'm talking about when you are editing the texts before packing it into the ROM. I work with Linux, and I know there's functions that will substitute various placeholders for proper text. On the topic of censors... Something that occurred to me is that if we wanted to uncensor the western release, we'd need to dump and extract both versions of the game, then find the models that are used by the characters and replace them with the japanese versions. I can't quite remember but I know some people uncensored another game like that, it was 3D model file swaps. Disabled or removed features of the game would be unable to be unlocked or brought back in, as that would require code editing.
  3. Patch has been working well. I'm up to Chapter 6 and apart from some minor errors already pointed out, it's been running smoothly. I know this is not related to the patch, but the carts you use determine what story lines you get right? Because I have the Nohr version and it says "You'll need to purchase the Hoshido storyline from the eShop after Chapter 6". Kinda hard to decide who my Avatar's family is... There's no "All-in-one" edition that has both story lines, is there? (What is that Special Edition anyway?)
  4. Sorry to bump, but got it working. It was indeed failing to load the Character Creator due to the filesystem naming issues. Thanks for the help!
  5. Hmmm.... the only thing I did use was Asia81's AIO Extracting and Rebuilding kit on Windows 8.1. EDIT: Haha! If you're using that kit, it makes all the files with the Japanese Kanji names (Shift-JIS or UTF-8?) like #####1 and such. Maybe I should try rebuilding the package using the ROMFS Extractor and ROMFS Builder only, instead of letting the AIO tool extract the ROMFS by itself. HANS does kick the console into JPN region mode though. And fun fact: if you try to press HOME while the game is running, it'll hard lockup. I think it's likely because the HOME Menu has no bindings for JPN region, and thus the 3DS just hits an exception.
  6. Hey guys, just thought I'd chime in. I've got a homebrew enabled N3DS XL running 10.3 and I've successfully patched my copy of the Japanese "Black Kingdom" using HANS to redirect the ROMFS to the SD Card. However, after following a tutorial on page 25 or 29 that's written by someone who I've forgotten their name, I get a black screen after selecting "Casual" as my play type. Is this known? I did search here and find that you have to shift or delete some files to stop the game from crashing, but I'm not sure. This is what works: Checking Save Data prompt Nintendo / Intelligent Systems Presents intro video Title screen (logo is correctly changed to Fire Emblem Fates, not the japanese version) Start New Game menu Select difficulty menu Select game style menu After that, the screen goes black, and the console hardlocks. Have to manually power it off. Kinda bummed, but does anyone know what the cause is? I've done the steps required, including trimming the 0x1000 Length off the ROMFS as per the patch guide. I using BrowserHax and HANS (as stated before). Cheers!
