  1. Random thought: do y'all think the next TT could be Sacred Stones-themed? We had Valter and the Sacred World come out of nowhere, and they had to back-to-back Echoes banners so I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility.

On CYL proper though: if the story is that Lucina et. al. are joining the Order of Heroes or something (and I bet you there will be a story chapter / paralouge to accompany the units), what if they're given out for free, like with the Askrians at the beginning of the game? Probably a long shot, but hey, it's nice to dream. I want them to be something more than alt artworks; other 'n that, I'd be happy to spend some orbs (I only have base Lucina and I didn't pull Ike during Hero Fest).

  2. Kliff: My favorite Ram villager, actually. While everyone else seems to be sociable and on good terms with the rest of the Village People (barring Faye, partially), Kliff seems distant and antisocial in comparison. His Support with Tobin delves into this, but I'd LOVE to see more about this side of him; plus, since he can be recruited on Celica's route, he could have had a really interesting set of Supports. Factoid of the day: apparently he had feelings for Silque in the Gaiden novelization but he was killed by Desaix before he could act on them.

Python: Interesting for me mainly because of his Support with Clive: the leader of the Deliverance STILL wants to keep the nobility/commoner distinction. Not that Python is Communist or anything, but it seems like an interesting critique the protagonists' side.

Mae: Fav mage. Not much else to say.

Grieth: Eh. He had his role as an arc villain and demonstrating the state of Zofia but unimportant in the grand scheme of things.

  3. Tobin: Not necessarily my favorite Ram villager (that's probably Kliff or Gray) but I'll admit he's endearing, especially his friendship with Gray and his inferiority complex to Alm (tell me IS, why can't they have a Support?).

Conrad: Admittedly didn't use him at first because I didn't see a reason to use a cavalier on swamps. I also don't know what exactly he adds to the story; epilepsyduck was kinda right about his negative impact on the story. Granted, I don't think he *ruins* the story on his own, but not my favorite character.

Slayde: Not my favorite, but he does his job as an asshole minor villain well.

  4. On the "influence" question I always thought Magvel takes as much queues from Biblical (the demons/monsters, Rausten being a theocracy, the names of Jehannan characters like Joshua and Ismaire) and Norse (essentially all the Sacred Twin weapons and the tragic nature of Lyon's possession) mythology/culture than Eastern Europe, but those connection are definitely cool.

So, Rex... what route are you going to play?

  5. I've just come out of a conversation with another SoV fan and they raised an interesting point: that Faye could be read as a sort of deconstruction of the "anime" style of character writing employed by Awakening and especially Fates, specifically with the main character-worship done by the likes of Camilla and Hinoka. The idea is that while in Fates that behavior is treated as normal it's perceived as abnormal by the SoV cast vis-a-vis Faye, especially in her A Support with Alm, which IIRC implied that it could be a result of dealing with the trauma of going to war.

Now, I'm not saying that the Fates/Awakening casts were all cookie-cutter or were completely devoid of deeper substance or that the same thing is true for Faye, just that it's a way of adding metatextual weight to Faye's character. Personally I don't buy it because Faye never seems to grow out of that crush towards Alm nor is there being a moment in her Supports where she's called out on (at least on the surface) being ONLY being concerned with Alm. I just want to know: what do you think?

  6. So I think the consensus is that SoV's greatest strength is its character writing and voice acting... which just leaves me confused why the supports are so limited, especially excluding DLC-exclusive ones. So, I wanted to know what people thought were interesting supports that the game didn't have. For my money I think a Lukas/Lutheier support would be really interesting, given their contrasting personalities and the fact that they both have somewhat dysfunctional relationships with their siblings.

  7. My bet for a summoning banner is that there will be 2, 1 for Ephraim's army and one for Eirika's. If that's the case then I think we'll see Duessel, Knoll, and Myrrh (Ephraim) and Innes, Saleh, and Joshua (Eirika).

Lyon HAS TO BE a GHB though, or I'll riot.

Side question, does anyone think a particular voice actor would be good for a particular character? For instance, I'd love to see Kaji Tang voice Innes.

I'm not sure how much people realize, since I seem to be bringing it up a bunch recently, but Fire Emblem JUST did this. Echoes is heavily Grecoroman inspired. The architecture and art is distinctly ancient Greece, and the core of the conflict sets up two of the more common ancient Roman themes(Conquering empires versus extreme hedonism). The Baron overclass is a mixture of a Greek Hoplite and Roman Centurian, for crying out loud.

Thing is, this stuff all props up the general Fire Emblem aesthetic and themes that the series will likely never stray far away from. I hate to break it to you, but we'll never see "Fire Emblem's take on Thermopylae", because that's not something Fire Emblem has ever done. Fire Emblem, at most, takes heavily from European/Eurasian cultures(And sometimes far eastern), like Jugdral taking a lot from Northern Europe, Echoes taking a lot from Ancient Greece/Rome, and Hoshido taking a bunch from Japan and other East Asian cultures, and stuff like that, while never really mentioning anything that has happened in real life Scandinavia/Greece/Rome/Japan. At the very most you'll get loose references to the mythologies of those cultures.

And in each of those cases, even with Hoshido, if the names weren't classes like "Oni Savage" or "Onmyo", or the characters weren't named "Sakura" or "Takumi", you likely wouldn't even think Hoshido is that much more Japanese than most other Fire Emblem settings. The FURTHEST we've gone were the Sacae, who are deliberately propped up as having a very distinct culture within Elibe, and most people still don't know what culture Sacae is supposed to be a real world parallel to.

Now that you mention it I feel kind of stupid for not noticing the Classical stuff in Echoes. And yeah, there's always that bit of flavor added to the various countries; I guess I just want it to be a bit more overt like Sacae and Hoshido. Thanks for the explanation.

  9. I think it's telling that a lot of people want something different from the standard late medieval-European setting FE usually goes for. Not that that type of setting is inherently BAD, just that moving beyond it would open new possibilities for the franchise.

My personal preference is to move it to Ancient Greece. The political situation is very different from the standard fair (multiple city-states loosely linked by culture and religion vs a collection of kingdoms that all seem internally homogeneous) and there's more than enough history of the region to have a basis for the narrative. The Persian Wars, for instance, synch up with FE's typical "empire invades a kingdom" set-up; plus it'd be pretty fun to have FE takes on the Battles of Thermopylae and Salamis.

  10. I actually would like to see a villainous Lord, like a noble from the antagonist faction, especially if they do an Ike-style main character. Sorta like Berkut, only they may end up being recruitable / be more sympathetic (depending on your opinion of Berkut).

For a noble-born protag I agree that they should be female and have some uniqueness to them, i.e. a bow user or a dragon rider. Other than that, I think people have already said what I want from the new main character.

  11. Well, now that we've worked out the general future of the series, I'm going to take a bet and predict stuff specifically about FE15...

...namely that it'll be an FE6 remake either as a New 3DS / 3DS XL exclusive OR a (semi)launch title for the NX.

Just a disclaimer, I am not privy to what IS's plans are, so take all of this with a grain of salt.

Now, I see a remake being likely for the simple reason that Fates, at least in my eyes was less "three versions" and more "three games with different stories and radically different gameplay styles." Regardless, IS put a lot of work into the game, and I think they might want to rest a bit before coming up with a new story again. As for FE6? Mostly just that Roy returned as a DLC fighter in Sm4sh, and the fact his game was never localized. As for the system... I do think we're unlikely to have much more new (regular) 3DS games, but depending on the launch date for the NX, it could either come out as either a launch title for, or close to, it at least. The New 3DS / 3DS XL is just what I think they'll do barring an NX opportunity.

  12. Can you really ONLY get this item once, and no more times after that?

What I mean is, can you only get this in one file.... and ONLY one file?

    Sorry if it's too confusing....

No. Granted, I have not gotten the game myself, but I think it's set up so as to make them available once per playthrough -- ie you can get it once per Avatar.

  13. The amiibos don't give you the reclass items, just so you know. You only get the Vanguard class via the Vanguard's Dawn DLC.

Marth, Ike, Robin, and Lucina are all just bonus units that come in DLC classes without the need for the corresponding DLC.

    Oh! Thanks for the info.

  14. If I had to get any one amiibo, it'd probably be Ike, since I like the Vanguard class, and the "Encounter with Awakening" DLC means you can reclass unites into Great Lords and Lodestars, so getting Marth or Lucina amiibo's seems redundant.

  15. If they ever did a show, I'd think it would either be an original plot or a massive, series-wide cross over featuring characters from all the games, since adapting the games cold could lead to bit of lockout from new viewers ("Who's this Sigurd guy, anyways?")
