  1. Well crap. The following meant to go up last week, but it never got submitted for whatever reason. Thank god for autosave, I guess. Still, I should've checked to see if it posted. Sorry again for the silence!

Now, that of course leaves me with some questions.

    1. Did I actually have 4.0? Well I loaded up a chapter save instead of a bookmark one and saw that all of the shop dialogue was now translated, so I figured it must be 4.0, at least in some fashion (though a few menu options were now in Japanese instead of the English they were before, but only a small couple) So I figured I probably had 4.0
    2. Does it have something to do with the DLC .cia files? I'm not quite sure how I'd go about verifying this.
    3. Does it have something to do with how I loaded up the saved bookmark of the last turn of chapter 14, and maybe the post-chapter dialoge was still 'saved'? A way to maybe test this would be to load a chapter save instead, and maybe do a random mission before doing chapter 14. I don't want to do this chapter all over again if I don't have to since it took me a while but I will if this doesn't lead anywhere. EDIT: Tried this, didn't work.

I responded to your DM on Twitter, but I'll answer your questions here for others, as well.

    1. Unfortunately, because Invisible Kingdom is only available as downloadable content, re-patching the main game won't update the content in IK. The only dialogue files content present in Invisible Kingdom are story-relevant, with more generic lines like shop greetings and menus are pulled from the updated base game.
    2. That's precisely the reason. In order to use the current patch with Invisible Kingdom, you'll need to update the DLC content itself, which involves dumping as a .cia, modifying its contents, and rebuilding. The process is a bit different compared to regular games, and we don't offer any way of automating it at the moment, but if you were able to install it with a 3.1 patch, then it shouldn't be too difficult to find the means to install the 4.0 patch, as well. Alternatively, there's an NTR plugin floating around that lets you simply toss the patch files into a folder on your SD card and load them at runtime. This method works for DLC, as well.
    3. The chapter 14 bug was caused by a typo in the dialogue, so your save wouldn't affect anything. Sorry I couldn't respond before you restarted the chapter! :(:

    Hello, Team If!
Today, I'm here to report a possible Bug.

People have reported that when using the v4.0 patch, the game will crash during Invisible Kingdom Chapter 9. It happens right before the gang gets tricked into beating up the wind tribe villagers. Skipping the scene & installing the update doesn't work either.

Apparently, this issue doesn't arise if using a US 3DS (it crashes on a JP 3DS & EUR n3DS). It would be great someone can reply to this, thanks.

Thanks for letting us know! That's interesting, especially if it's a bug that only affects non-NA consoles. I couldn't tell you what the problem is right now, but I'll add it to the issues list and see what we can do. Could you let me know what gender you were playing, as well?

Edit: Since it appears that this bug is possible on a NA 3DS as well, it'll be easier to test for it. But if some people get it while others don't, which sounds like the case from what I've heard, it makes me wonder if the issue stems from our files or something else entirely. If you've experienced the bug or have any more information about it, please leave a comment on our open issue page. If the information you provide helps us find and fix the problem, we'll add your name to the credits list. Thank you!

  2. Can someone explain, in simple terms, how to make it work with a digital copy of the game?

With the tool mentioned on our patching guide, it's actually pretty easy to dump a digital copy of the game. The problem is that there's no straightforward way to dump it into the format required by the patcher.

Truthfully, the patcher program we use is rather outdated; it requires a .3ds backup and Xorpads to decrypt it, but there are much simpler ways to do it these days. For the time being, I would listen to luyairis' suggestion, or look into creating/modifying .cia backups and try applying the patch manually. In the future, we plan to expand the patcher to include more formats.

  3. Sorry about the silence; the holidays had me all over the place and unable to respond to anything very quickly. Everything should be back to normal now, though.

If you'd like to let us know about an issue with the translation, we're actually making use of the issue tracker provided with the Github repo. You can find that here. If you'd like to contact us about anything else, I do usually respond to PMs pretty quickly, but you can also e-mail me directly at shadysheikah(at)gmail.com. If you'd like to avoid me and contact the team as a whole, we also have a lesser-known e-mail, askteamif(at)gmail.com, but the response time won't be nearly as fast. I'll update the OP with this information, as well.

Regarding Discord, like shadowofchaos said, we have a server set up to communicate with each other, but it's only for team members at the moment. If that ever changes, I'll definitely let you guys know.

Edit: Ninja'd by the wise old man :Athos:

  4. Can you tell me how to apply translation or delocalization patches to DLC routes? please~

I've seen a few of you guys ask this, and we should've had a tutorial ready to explain how to get the DLC working. To get Invisible Kingdom to work, you'll need to enable language emulation on your firmware. We just added a guide on how to do that over on our wiki.

Note that the guide is only if you're playing this on a CFW. We're going to get a HANS tutorial up as soon as we can for those having trouble getting it to work. For the time-being, while it's written specifically for the content restoration patch, this lighthearted tutorial should set you in the right direction.

Hi, I tried this, but I still can't get it to work even tho the undub patch is working? is there any specific guide I can use on how to patch the EU version of fire emblem fates with your fan translation patch with homebrew?

If you're using the EU version of the game, things are a bit different. Check out this post and see if it helps:

    http://serenesforest.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=60728&page=50#entry4401509

Also, just a heads up, but the repository has moved to a new account. That doesn't mean much, though, since the previous links will redirect to the new location automatically. The OP has been updated with the new links.

  5. Thanks! I have a few more questions about the Japanese Fire Emblem If Special Edition:

    1. Is the Invisible Kingdom path already on the cartridge or does it come with a free DLC code?

    2. If I bypass region blocking using Homebrew Channel, will the store I access be the Japanese or USA eshop? If its the English one, will all the DLC I buy be in English?

    3. Can I use HANS to ignore region locking? Important, because in order to apply the translation properly I'd have to use HANS, but as far as I know ignoring region locking is a separate option.

    4. Lastly, do you guys plan on translating the Japanese-only DLC?

    Thanks again awesome work :Soldier:

EDIT: A silly question: is it Anya and Byakuya or does that translate to Nohr and Hoshido, I was unsure of what its called in Japan

    1. Invisible Kingdom is DLC only, sorry. You won't be able to download it from the eShop if you have a US 3DS, but I'm sure there are other ways to find it.
    2. Even if you bypass the region lock, you're still stuck with the American eShop. Unfortunately, you won't be able to download Japanese content in that manner.
    3. You should be able to! I haven't used HANS, myself, but I'm almost positive it has the option.
    4. There's a good chance of it, but we wouldn't start until the main game was close to finished.
    5. Anya and Byakuya, the names of the two kingdoms in the Japanese version, translate to dark night and white night, respectively. We use the localized Nohr and Hoshido throughout the game, mostly because that's how the original group was referring to them before we took over.

Thats wierd because the my castle menus when you press start were completely translated in the last patch. Also I can't seem to find any of the files you mentioned from the last patch.

...Actually, this is a screw up on my end. I completely missed a file when assembling the patch called "MyCastle.bin.lz", which contains the text for My Castle's interface. I just pushed it to the GitHub repo; you can download it from there. Alternatively, the file in the 3.0 patch has exactly the same data. Sorry about that!

  6. Hey will this work with the USA version? Just because I much prefer a direct translation not localization garbage

It can, but you'll have to refer to the content restoration project, which you can find over here: http://serenesforest.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=60728

Basically, when you download the fanslation package from that thread, you'll want to replace the rom folder with the one from our release on GitHub. Then, inside the m folder, create a new folder called @E and dump every file that's not in A, B, or C into that folder. There shouldn't be any files floating around in m; just A, B, C, and @E. Then follow the content restoration tutorial.

    What DLC stuff is translated?

There are actually some translated text files lying around for Recollection of Foam, Paradise Scramble, and Invisible History from before we took over the project. They were never released due to irresolvable text skipping issues, and we haven't had the opportunity to look over them. I don't want to take focus away from supports at the moment, but if there's enough interest from you guys, we could put it up on the repo with a huge disclaimer.

Can you tell me how to apply translation or delocalization patches to DLC routes? please~

If I recall correctly, it's a pretty simple process, but I haven't done it myself in a long while and the team member who knows more about it is offline at the moment. Sorry I don't know more, but I'll come back later today with an answer, I promise!

Edit: Ninja'd. Thanks shadowofchaos for the help!

When I patched my rom and installed it some of the my castle menus got detranslated. Is this normal?

We only included in the patch files that were completely translated. There were a few files that were partially translated, such as the Forge and some of the Armory and Hot Spring lines. We're working on finishing those soon, but if you want the previous lines back, you can use the files from the last patch and copy them over into this patch's m folder. Their filenames are 下画面セリフ_武器屋道具屋.bin.lz, 死亡.bin.lz, and 店番_牢屋.bin.lz. Sorry about that.

  7. Sorry for the wait, guys! As of a few minutes ago, Patch release 4.0 is up and ready to download. Link is in the OP.

Do the repository files contain the exact same files as the 4.0 patch will or are they lacking content from the patch?

With this last commit, everything in the repo is exactly what's in 4.0. We plan to update the repo on a more regular basis, so it should only ever be on par or ahead of the latest patch from here on out.

  9. Hey, just want to let you guys know that we're on-track to release this Wednesday for sure. We're working right now on getting everything wrapped up and ready to go for the new patch.

With the release of the patch this Wednesday, progress will be as follows:

    • All story chapters (Hoshido, Nohr, Invisible Kingdom) at 100%
    • Skinship lines for every character at 100% (subtitles for text-less lines, like confessions isn't currently possible)
    • First-generation supports (excluding children) by gender:
      • Female/female supports at 100%
      • Male/female supports at 55%
      • Male/male supports at 37%
    • Second-generation supports at 4%.
    • My Castle and misc. lines at 45%

I also promised a few screenshots of some of the new content. Starting with a minor cosmetic change, we decided to drop the official "Fates" logo and go with our own version of the "If" logo instead.

    [spoiler=New Logo]

Some of the Skinship lines were done before we took over, but here's a look at some of the new supports we've done recently.

Last, but not least, we have a few screens of the new supports we've been working on

Edit: Patch release isn't quite live yet, but the new thread and GitHub page are! Head over here to continue discussion: http://serenesforest.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=67613

  10. Hey guys. Deepest apologies, but we're going to have to push back the release a week. We weren't expecting Thanksgiving weekend to hit us as hard as it did, and there's still a lot of last-minute polish that needs to get done.

We're shooting for December 7, now. I'll edit my last post to clear up any confusion. To make up for the delay, I'll post some screenshots of the new content later this week.

  11. New release incoming!

We know it's been a while since the last patch release, and we're sorry about that. But that's going to change really soon, because...

The new patch is dropping on November 30 December 7! (See post down below)

Over the last several months, we've been hard at work adding support, Skinship, and My Castle Lines, as well as revising the story chapters to fix mistakes and give them an extra layer of polish. We're not there just yet; we haven't started on the child supports, and we still have a good chunk of first-generation support files to go. That said, we believe there's enough new and improved content to warrant a new release.

Here's what's going to be in the new patch:

    • Revised story text for all three storylines, with reported errors and other mistakes fixed and sentence flow overall improved.
    • All Skinship lines for every character translated. Skinship lines without accompanied text aren't able to be translated at the moment, unfortunately.
    • Translations for roughly half the first-generation supports. All female/female, over half the male/female, and only a few of the male/male supports are currently complete.
    • Translations for 50% of the My Castle lines. Important and substantial lines are complete, while more generic shop-related dialogue is not.

We're going to be changing up our distribution method, too.

We realize it's been more than seven months since the last release. That's not going to happen anymore. Starting with this upcoming patch, we're going to place our releases on GitHub and update the repository with the most recent translations on a monthly basis. We'll still assemble a complete release package every few months, but for those who want files as soon as they're ready, they'll be there for you to download and use. We'll make use of GitHub's Wiki feature to provide detailed installation instructions, and we invite you to use the issue tracker for any mistakes you may find in the text.

When the new patch hits on the 30th 7th, we'll start a new thread with all the information and links to the GitHub repository and release. Unfortunately, we can't update the current thread's OP anymore, now that Cellenseres is no longer an active member of the team. I'll update this post with the link when the thread is made, as well.

Also, our team welcomes anyone looking to lend a hand. If you'd like to help out, please don't hesitate to send me a PM. All you need is a firm grasp of the English language. If you can translate Japanese to English, even better!

Finally, a huge thank you to everyone who has stuck around for so long. We couldn't keep going without your support! If you have any questions or comments about the upcoming patch, please let us know.

Edit: New thread is live! Continue discussion here.

  12. Sorry for the dead link. You can download the patch release from this alternate link here. Regarding how to use it, please refer to EldinTokuro's guide to using the patch with HANS. It's written for the restoration patch, but the process is identical.

Since it's been a while, I'll give you guys an update on our latest progress:

    • Live2D lines are almost done! All of the females have been translated, and only a few males remain. Once those are done, it shouldn't take more than a few days to edit and proofread them.
    • My Castle lines are progressing, but for the time being, we're leaving them on the back burner to focus on supports.
    • Speaking of supports, we're giving our full attention to the first generation of characters. Female-female supports are almost done, male-female supports (the majority of supports) are about halfway finished, and male-male are progressing at a slow-but-steady pace.
    • After first-generation supports are complete, we'll start working on the child supports right away.

Sorry it's taking so long for a new release! We want at least the first-generation supports to be finished before we release something new, and we're doing everything we can to get it out to you guys as quickly as possible. Thanks to everyone for sticking around for so long!

And as a reminder, if you'd like to join the team and lend a hand, just shoot me a PM! We're always open to extra help, and if you're proficient in Japanese or have a firm grasp of English grammar, we'd love to have you. :D:

  13. Really sorry to intrude with a stupid question. I did download the patch for Conquest and Birthright, but I have no idea the status of Invisible Kingdom or if a translation patch even exists in the first place. Can you tell me what you know?

Also, my Japanese is intermediate enough to play the game raw and translate for my own personal use, but I am kind of reluctant to volunteer myself into this translation project... if you could tell me how it works, I could consider helping. Thank you!

Invisible Kingdom is already translated in patch 3.0, although as others have pointed out, there's an error in our translation of chapter 14 that causes the game to crash. There's a fix for that on page 103.

As far as helping with translation goes, just hit me up with a PM and we can talk in more detail about it :):

I'm honestly just wondering, but since a lot of the supports are translated (I'm thinking of this list), couldn't you guys use that instead of re-translating them from scratch?

We actually are using that list as a resource for our supports. The problem with many of these translations, however, is that they don't always stick closely to the original text and often include mistakes. While they help us get the supports done faster, we still need to check each translation for accuracy, which takes time.

Ok. I've had a question for quite some time and I just remembered I wanted to ask it here.

I've not bought FE Fates because of what they did with the game. But soon I'm going to start an intensive Japanese course in Japan, so I might be able to play the original game.

So what I want to know is that if I can update my 3DS to the most current firmware and still use the region free patch. I'm currently using the 10.3.0-28E firmware.

And would the region free patch also allow me to buy and play Japanese DLCs? And playing online? Would I be able to play my region's (European) games both offline and online without any problems too? If I recall correctly, new games force you to update your firmware, so that's also why I'm asking the first question in the first place.

    Thank you in advance :Roy:

Don't update your firmware! It's possible to use the patch with just access to the Homebrew Launcher, but I recommend downgrading your firmware and setting up CFW. Take a look at the guide linked in the OP for more information.

Unfortunately, you can only buy DLC for the region you bought your 3DS. There are ways to get the Japanese DLC, but without a Japanese 3DS, you'd need a CFW to do so.

  14. I posted the file that fixes the Cyrus bug a couple posts back, but if you didn't see it, here's the link to the file. In the patch files, just go to the rom -> m -> C directory and replace the file that's already there with this new one. After that, re-patch your game and the bug should be fixed.

As for what was causing the issue, a character of code was accidentally deleted when the English text was inserted. The game would reach that point in the conversation, see that unfinished chunk of code, and simply not know what to do with it. The new file adds the character back in, and everything should run fine now.

ALSO: Just a reminder that we're still looking for extra hands! If you know Japanese or have a firm grasp of the English language, shoot me a PM! :D:

  15. Well, I don't know japanese, so I don't know wether I can be of all that great help, but I'd be willing to proofread and playtest the translation (Currently only for White night Kingdom though)

Also, where do I report mistakes / Typos / Textskips / untranslated Lines /other Weird Stuff?

And Of course, because I didn't express my gratitude yet, thank you very much for your continued work and the effort to give this game the translation it deserves.

I hope I can be of use.

We actually have a bug sheet! I thought there was a link to it on the OP, but I'm not seeing it anymore. Here it is, just make a suggestion on the document and we'll add and investigate it.

Also, if you're willing to read through support conversations for a few hours each week, shoot me a PM.

The download link seems to be down. I'm kind of worried and i'm looking forward to downloading this. Is there any way it could be re-uploaded?

That's strange. I'll let Cellenseres know. In the meantime, here's a backup link.

Edit: Ninja'd by Merik. Thanks, man!

Edit #2: The previous error log is going down soon, please use this one instead. Changed the link up there, as well.

  16. Do you happen to remember on what page that discussion was in?

I don't happen to recall which page it was on, sadly. It's possible to update your CIA with the latest translations if you have NTR installed, though. I'm not sure if I'm allowed to mention the specific website where you can find it, but there's a layeredfs plugin floating around that makes updating your CIA as simple as placing a folder with the translated files on your SD card's root. thedude28 would probably know how to explain it better than I do.

Glad to hear that, so we only have to wait for a new release or something?

It'll be included in the next patch, but if you're stuck and need the fix to progress, here's the updated version of the file that was causing the issue. Just replace the existing file in the m > C directory and re-patch. Feel free to contact me if you need help.

Has the feeding glitch been fixed?

    Where the food is invisible.

Apologies for my ignorance, but this is the first I've heard of it. Does this glitch happen specifically with the patch applied? Not yet, but we're looking into it.

Has their been any recent progress?

There has been some progress, yes, but not enough to warrant a new patch just yet.

Which brings me to something else.

    We need your help!

I mentioned in my last post that we were getting over a slump we suffered back in May. Unfortunately, I underestimated the toll it took on our team. When we took over translation duties, we had about a dozen members working on the patch. However, a good chunk of the crew is gone due to inactivity or real life rearing its ugly head, and there isn't enough of us left to get through the remaining work in a timely manner. The fact of the matter is that if we want to release a new patch anytime soon, we need more people.

Specifically, we're looking for translators and editors. If you know Japanese or have a strong grasp of the English language, please contact me as soon as possible!

To clarify, we'll continue working on this project no matter what, but it'll be slow going until we can boost the size of our team. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Regardless, thank you so much to everyone who's stuck with us for this long. Despite what may have been said in the past, you are the reason this project continues to exist.

  17. Sorry, I'm not the most knowledgeable when it comes to how the patch itself works; we still rely on the remaining members of Division I to pack it. I think it was discussed earlier in the thread, however.

Very glad to hear that the translation is still in progress. Thumbs up to everyone involved in this project, I'm enjoying every bit of the current patch. One question: in which order will the remainder of the game be translated? Untranslated Support conversations perhaps or something else?(I'm guessing DLC has less priority because that's very difficult to patch).

Division I translated a fair amount of first-generation support conversations before it got handed to us, and we've been going through and proofreading them as well. The majority of the Live2D lines have been translated and edited, but still need to be tested in-game to make sure everything fits correctly. At the moment, our focus is on translating the My Castle-related stuff, and then finishing the support conversations once we're done with that. Can't say much about the DLC content right now. :(:

  18. Hey everyone. I'm the head of Team If's Division II, the group working on finishing the translation for the remainder of the game. My apologies for the lack of communication.

We're still working on translating and editing the rest of the game. There was a lull in progress in May due to many of us having to deal with finals, but now that June has arrived, things are starting to pick up again. I can't give an estimate for when we'll get the next patch out, but I'll try to keep you guys updated with our progress.

If you have any questions or comments about the translation, please let me know. :D:
