  1. So, I was going through my Pathfinder basic book and the way they handle the whole magic classes using weapons thing and they do it pretty well in my opinion. Aside from the cleric, which for some reason is actually super good at fighting (I guess because most of their offensive spells are statuses or only work on undead enemies) most magic classes start out with something only slightly srtronger than punches, like clubs or kitchen knives, and have to learn to use actual weapons. You see, the way they do weapon profeciency is that they have kind of a weapon rank system, but for all weapons, so combat based classes get to use better weapons much earlier and therefore can spend their "level up points" on other, more interesting abilities. So you could be a badass sorcerer with a massive sword but can only cast arcane missiles once per day, a mage that can freeze an entire army by sneezing but deals a litlle over 1% of the opponents health with each stab of their knife, or anywhere in between. So I was thinking that maybe I could have some sortof "training point" system which you could spend in leveling up your stats, your weapon ranks or learning new spells. If skills will fit into that (or if they even work the same as in FE) I'll have to decide later. What do you people think?
  2. I had this crazy idea of translating fire emblems mechanics into a tabletop RPG, but I'm having trouble. I want to make classes more unique so you wouldn't pick a troubadour over a cleric just because they have a horse, for example. Also, healing classes like the ones I just mentioned would need to be able to use weapons, and so would magic-only classes, like mages. ALSO, I can't decide if I should use the japanese classes or their counterparts in earlier games. I know that that's a lot, but any help is welcome, including stuff I didn't mention here, like if I should use the "X spells a day" system or if I should use tomes with limited uses, or even nerf magic at the cost of them having infinite uses. I'll do updates when I come to any decisions or stumble upon other important problems.
