  1. I've been asking that exact question in the restoration patch thread (there's some overlap in the teams of the two patches), most recently in this post. Kind of trying to push for them admitting they've lost interest (no negative connotation intended - it's 100% understandable if that's the case) and open sourcing their progress so far, so that other parts of the community can finish what's left.
  2. Cool, glad to know someone else shares that sentiment. Trying to empathize with them: announcing that they're "truly ready to call it quits" can be a tough thing to do. However, I hope they understand that the community would prefer that they give up the reins rather than cling onto the project long after losing interest. People seem to be pretty understanding and appreciative here. I won't press any farther though - it's not really my place since I'm not an active member of Serenes Forest / Team If.
  3. That's absolutely understandable, and I wouldn't even consider complaining about it. But are they willing to open source their progress? Even just throw a .zip dump onto some file hosting service and let other people figure it out, if they don't want to set up open source infrastructure?
  4. So if you choose the fanslation option, you get no subtitled cutscenes? Ouch. I'm guessing the option does exist for the US version, then (i.e. restoration patch)? At a halt? Are they open to passing it on to new people, then? I suspect a little publicity would go a long way, if word were spread that the project is well underway but needs a bit more translation to reach 100%. Because there are probably plenty of people like me who assume there is currently a group working on it - hopefully some of whom know enough Japanese to help translate.
  5. A few questions about restoration vs. fanslation patch - I apologize if these have been asked elsewhere, I read the topic post of both patch threads. I briefly checked out the first ~20 minutes of the fanslation, and couldn't find an option for subtitles in pre-rendered cutscenes. Was I just missing something? Will any (patched) version of the game allow for subtitled cutscenes with Japanese audio? Also, is the fanslation patch likely to be "deprecated" in favour of the restoration patch? I've noticed there is a lot of overlap between the restoration patch team and the translation patch team. Finally, I'm a third-year computer science student with quite a bit of free time this term, so I'd be happy to offer some programming help if either team needs it. I read something along the lines of supports requiring hundreds of files to be compressed individually, which sounds like it could potentially be automated.
