  1. Would Soleil make a good Nohr Noble?

A matter of opinion (and the parent). Soleil's most lacking stat is HP and her SKL and SPD are also "not fantastic", but her STR is absurd. Her MAG, however is nonexistant. If you want to make her as good as you can (not restricted to a Nohr Noble), make either a +HP or +SPD Femui to cover her weaknesses, marry to Laslow as soon as you can, buy Aptitude for her from someone's castle and go to town (ideally level as a Hero for as long as you can - the class growths help cover her weaknesses).

As mentioned though, Soleil literally has 0 base MAG growth - even a +MAG Corrin would only raise it to 25, so it's best to forget about her using any magic at all and focus on her physical side. As such, she's probably not a good Nohr Noble, as she can't very well make use of Tomes or Dragonstones (both running off her crummy MAG stat). She's going to use swords pretty well, though. Still, I'd say that you'd be better off leaving her as a Hero or making her a Swordmaster in that case.

  2. Holy Hell, I completely forgot about the A+ supports. Thanks for reminding me of that - I'll just have to wait until I get Rhajat (which will take a while). But yes, in my last playthrough, I had Odin x Nyx and Ophelia was already a murder machine there - as far as I'm aware, Elise's MAG and SPD growths are even higher than Nyx's. Her SKL growth is what worries me, but I guess I can use a Secret Book or two.

  3. I see, thank you.

For the Avatar's personal skill, does it matter if the supporting unit is paired up or not? I can't tell if they need to be paired up or adjacent for the avatar's skill to work. Also, does only the avatar get the benefit? As in, does it not work the other way around?

The Avatar needs to be THE supporting unit in order for the skill to take affect. I'm not entirely sure how you think the skill works, but the skill grants the bonuses to the unit the Avatar is supporting, not the Avatar him/herself.

In addition, yes, it does work in both cases - when the units are adjacent and when they are paired up, as long as the Avatar is the "backline" unit.

I've got a question myself - do the effects of multiple units with the Inspiration skill stack? In other words, if I put three units with Inspiration in a 2-tile range of each other, would each of them have +4 damage dealt/-4 damage received?

  4. I second that.

It's an incredibly good pairing, and the pair-up bonus from Sakura and the Onmyoji class compliment Leo quite well.

To be honest, the only people Elise should marry are Odin, Niles and maybe Jakob. And that's a big maybe.

Any other pairing with her is pretty bad.

And if you want a magic user with good physical defense, try Sakura or Hayato.

The problem is, I'm inclined to marry Odin with Orochi, so Ophelia (my favourite caster, next to Elise) can have Tomefaire for extra nuke potential. Of course, I'm worried about her SPD in that case - the other possibilities for Odin are Nyx and Elise, as far as I'm concerned. Nyx is what I did in my Conquest run, but looking at stat spreads and skillsets, Orochi and Elise would both be superior choices. Problem is, Elise is going to hurt Ophelia's SKL, and as Niles is basically the only other option for Elise... I don't know, I just don't think Elise!Nina is particularly good. It feels like a waste of her phenomenal MAG and SPD. But if I go Odin x Elise, Ophelia can't have Tomefaire... I think about the question of Odin x Orochi vs Odin x Elise more than I should.

  5. I mean, gameplay-wise, I am perfectly happy. Azura makes a wonderful Sniper and once I've ground a few Bow ranks for her, she'll probably be nearly as deadly as Takumi.

However, their S-rank support... Wow. I don't claim to have seen all support conversations in the game yet, but this must easily rank among the very worst. Their C through A-rank were fine, but once they get to the S-rank, they've suddenly always loved each other and were just hiding their feelings.

It's jarring how wildly the writing quality of the supports varies, especially because I was doing Mozu x Laslow at the same time, which was plausible and freaking adorable throughout.

  6. Hey OP.

Leo can support Onmyoji Sakura in this route.

    You should do that.

Already doing so; they're at rank B now. Still conflicted about it, though - in the end, it might leave Elise out of viable marriage partners. (Yes, Elise can't marry Leo, but Leo x Sakura creates a chain reaction where I run out of good husbands for the Nohrian casters.)

Leo is generally good with dealing with magic units because of his high Res and Brynhildr's effect. So while he isn't as strong as the other royals, he's still useful.

I have to say, though. Dark Flier Leo is a good idea. Haven't thought of that until it was mentioned in this thread.

Sad thing is, Hana or Saizo are far better as mage killers than him - as most magic users have high RES and low DEF, physical units are usually better at killing them. I'll give Dark Flier Leo a try, but as things are right now, it doesn't look like he'll have a place on my main team.

  7. Another way to fix up his speed is to make him a Swordmaster for a couple levels through A+ support with Odin. Lets you pick up vantage too, which is nice.

Elise is by far the easiest of the Nohr royals to win with. Good mix of magical and physical attackers, a tanky unit, and the freeze staff does work

Good to know, I'll give Elise a try.

Turn him into a Dark Flier, set him up with nice skills like Astra, Flowing Strike, Bowbreaker, Galeforce and Heartseeker. This will turn him into your personal assassin who can move deep into enemy territory, take out whoever and then quickly fly away. Also he will laugh at archers.

Dark Flier Leo does sound like a good idea, but what's "Flowing Strike"? I looked through the skill lists and couldn't find it...

Leo's prf tome is really good and he starts out with decent stats (lesser chance of being rng screwed as a prepromote). He'll never nuke like Rhajat, Ophelia, Elise, or the Avatar but he can take hits unlike most of them. With Horse Spirit and Nosferatu he can comfortably target res, heal himself, and tank. What he needs to ORKO enemies reliably is either a speed pairup and/or a reclass (Sorcerer or Dark Flier). He makes a really good defensive magical pairup himself for magical spouses too so it's a win-win if you have him with say, Witch Sakura.

Leo's niche isn't that he's the best magical/physical attacker or tank but that he can perform multiple roles reliably at once which is something many units cannot do.

Yes, but I feel as if Leo's multirole capacity is his weakness at the same time. He deals okay damage, but not enough to oneshot; He has good SPD but not enough to reliably avoid or double; He has decent defenses, but not enough to tank at a chokepoint, and so on.

In a world of specialists, the jack-of-all-trades is just plain overshadowed at every turn. But as mentioned above, Dark Flier Leo sounds like a good way to cover his weaknesses.

  8. Well, you could put him into a sourcerer for a few levels so he can better level his magic or you give him some good skills from his wife's class.

I'm planning to get him together with Sakura (mostly so Forrest is actually good) - this'll give him access to Onmyoji, which is the best thing I can think of (Tomefaire). But even despite that... I went through the numbers and even if he gets RNG blessed, it's unlikely that he'll ever have the sheer destructive power Elise and Ophelia have. Sure, his lower offensive power is supposed to be offset by his better survivability, but... by late game, it's just not enough to survive anything significant anymore.

It just feels like he suffers from "master of none" syndrome.

  9. So, I'm on Revelation, and I'm wondering... what should I do with Leo? Sure, his growths are really good on paper, but in practice... he just feels weak. Sure, he has a unique weapon, great bases, and all-around good stats, but in the average case, all of my heavy hitters (Hana, Ryoma, Corrin, Takumi) are far better at taking out priority targets, as Leo's SPD is that tiny little bit too low to double things properly.

His SKL is that tiny bit too low to reliably hit things with any degree of AVO.

His defenses are that tiny bit too low to serve as a tank.

No matter which way I look at it, he's outclassed - by Hana, Ryoma, Xander and Takumi as physical damage dealers, Ophelia, Nyx, Elise and his own son Forrest as magical damage dealers and by Benny, Hinoka and Shiro as a tank. So my question is... is there some way to avoid benching him? Because really, I don't see any use for him at all, and the only thing he seems to have over any other relevant unit is his unique Tome.

  10. Pretty much everything about a Swordmaster, and Snipers, specifically female Snipers. What I love the most about female Snipers is that little arrow twirl they do at the start of combat. It's a small thing, but it's really cool - and male Snipers don't do it for some reason (shame on you, Takumi).

I think Adventurers do it too, but I'm not sure - I think I saw it on Nina.

  11. Would love to join in on this, but my units may be a little too far along for the game to still present a reasonable challenge. My avatar is currently level 20 + 15...

    If you want to have a look anyway: 09314 - 74590 - 79143 - 23197 (EU)

EDIT: Also have to add that it's not easy seize (yet). I'll fix that when I'm home from work. Still, my avatar is currently in grind mode, so just have a look at stats and stuff for now.

  12. Well, the time came to save Shiro the Suicidal... not having any Rescue staves, I need to do it the old-fashioned way. I actually managed to get there just in time via a series of very risky maneouvres that, among others, left Azura exposed to a Master Ninja for one turn... had Sakura not been two tiles away with her Personal Skill, she would've bit the dust then and there. From there, it's mostly smooth sailing - I talk to Shiro, place him under Xander's protection until I can get him somewhere safe on the map. Cleanup of the west side is going well enough, just a Sniper and a Master Ninja left on the other side of a few desert tiles - no problem, I send Takumi to oneshot the Ninja, the Sniper doesn't have enough damage to kill him anyway.

    Takumi had 38 health.

The Sniper had 14 damage, a 70% chance to hit and a 5% chance to crit. Guess what happened...

  13. It depends on your definition of a "good pairing", but here's my input...

Sakura x Saizo: The benefits from this are Sakura getting access to Ninja, Saizo getting access to Monk and has the effect of slanting Asugi in more of a magical direction. Personally, I'm not that big a fan of this one. Sure, Sakura makes a decent Ninja thanks to her all-around awesome growths, but her personal skill and default class pool cement her as a backline support, and Saizo, like basically everyone, appreciates getting skills like Renewal and Countermagic from the Monk line... but really, there are better options, such as Saizo x Hana, which will turn Asugi into a freaking cannon thanks to being passed her insane STR and SPD growths - only drawback is that Saizo doesn't get any extra classes out of this, as he already has access to Swordmaster by default. Hana, being the glass cannon that she is, might appreciate being Sealed into a Ninja, though.

Oboro x Subaki: This one is actually fairly decent. Caeldori will be fairly tanky thanks to Oboro's good growths, and having access to the Spear Fighter line is always nice for Rend Heaven, Quixotic, Lancefaire and the Seal skills. Oboro gets access to the Sky Knight line, which is... okay. Personally, I think it's mostly good for Amaterasu. Subaki gets access to Spear Fighter, which looks good at first glance, but keep in mind that he has only 5% base RES growth... His default class, Sky Knight, bumps this up by 20%, leaving it in the range of "almost acceptable" with a bit of RNG blessing, but if you make him a Spear Fighter, he is going to suffer from a mere 10% total RES growth, which is... bad. So keep that in mind. Other than that, I think it's a nice pairing!

Takumi x Azura: I'm going for this one myself, and I quite like it. Takumi likes having Darting Blow from the Sky Knight line to help out with his mediocre SPD. On the other hand, Azura makes an excellent Sniper thanks to her sky-high STR, SKL and SPD, and her son Shigure is a similar case.

Hinoka x Silas: Not entirely sure about this one. I never use Silas, so I have no idea how he should best be handled. Still, Sky Knight doesn't seem like it gives him anything worthwhile except maaaayyyyybe Darting Blow, even though he should have good SPD already. Hinoka might make a decent Paladin, however. She makes a good mother for Sophie, though - dragging down her SKL and SPD growths only slightly while giving her defenses that little push they need.

Hana x Hinata: Really not sure about this one. At least on paper, it looks okay - Hana gets some nice skills from the Oni Savage line, such as Death Blow and Lancebreaker, but on Hinata's side, the Monk line is not fitting at all for him, aside maybe from the Great Master's Renewal and Basara's Rend Heaven... but those skills are just great all-around anyway. Hisame with Hana as his mother is going to be a death machine, though - as long as he doesn't get RNG-screwed on his growths.

Hayato x Orochi: Hayato gets the Apothecary line (Replicate!) while Orochi gets Oni Savage (Death Blow). Other than that, this marriage doesn't really open any paths for either of them - the effects on Rhajat are notable, though. Normally, Rhajat has insane MAG and SPD at the cost of nonexistent SKL. Orochi is basically the same, except with SPD and SKL reversed - so an Orochi!Rhajat will have crazy MAG with decent SPD and SKL. She's not going to outspeed anyone anytime soon, but she will at least be able to hit things. An alternative to Orochi would be Mozu - sure, it's going to drag Rhajat's MAG down a little, but hey, Aptitude!

+SPD/-LCK Corrin x Kaden: This is really going to bump up Selkie's stats overall, so... go for it! Though I don't know what your Avatar's Talent is - Selkie is basically tailor-made to be a Ninja or Swordmaster with her stat spread, though.

Mozu x Kaze: Mozu makes a great Ninja with her high SPD and SKL, and it does bump up Midori's stats across the board. Go for it!

Ryoma x Kagero: NINJA RYOMA okay, sorry, had to. Anyway, Kagero doesn't really benefit from the Swordmaster reclassing, sadly - her best reclassing option, in my opinion, is Sniper because it really helps her low SKL. Ryoma as a Ninja would be funny, though. Kagero!Shiro does have a disadvantage in that his tankiness is dragged down slightly, but his STR really goes up as a result.

Azama x Felicia: Buddhist Butler. Hey, why not? Not the best fit for Azama, as he has phenomenal STR, HP and DEF, actually making him more well-suited to a frontline combatant, but it's funny as heck. Felicia meanwhile gets Shrine Maiden out of the deal, which is... pretty okay, actually. Mitama might get hurt, though - Felicia as a mother really brings down her stats across the board, so if you want to use her a lot, I'd personally recommend Oboro - doing so hurts her MAG a lot, but she will have really good stats across the rest of the board as a result. Or Kagero!

Jakob x Setsuna/Rinkah: Neither Setsuna nor Rinkah can really do anything with Maid, though Rinkah in a maid outfit is HILARIOUS. Oni Savage doesn't suit Jakob very well either, but with his decent STR, SKL and SPD, he might actually make a decent Sniper!

  14. Xander/Hinoka is solid. Still gives Xander speed, which is what he wants anyway. Darting blow + speed pairup combo should get get Xander to start doubling. If he still doesn't hit doubling thresholds in paladin, there's always A+ Ryoma for Swordmaster.

Since it looks like you're set on Azura/Takumi, I recommend putting Takumi into Kinshi for at least 1 level, because that gives Takumi Darting Blow, which fixes any speed issues he may have. He can still Fuujin snipe people in it anyway. I like his stats better in Sniper and he does have psedoflight in BR, but Kinshi might be more useful in RV terrain.

I'll probably make Xander a Lodestar for a couple of levels, too - Speedtaker is glorious on him. But it's nice to have confirmation that Xander x Hinoka is worthwhile.

As for Azura x Takumi, it's primarily because I can't think of a better pairing. The closest competitor is Azura x Kaze, but that one depends a lot on whether I can find someone else appropriate for Takumi, and on whom I want to give Ninja to.

I'm also a little worried about what to do with Odin and by extension, Elise. If I marry Odin x Orochi, I don't really have anyone else to marry her to... She can't S-support Hayato, so the only worthwhile marriage I can think of is to Niles, which would make Nina into a Shining Bow abuser, but this isn't quite optimal. I call this the "Magic Marriage Problem". If I take my current constellation of marriages and I marry Odin x Orochi, the following will ensue:

    - Leo x Sakura OR Leo x Nyx to give Forrest decent stats;

    - Sakura x Azama or Sakura x Hayato if Leo x Nyx is done (and I don't like either of those pairings for Sakura);

...which leaves Niles as the only real option for Elise.

On the other hand, if I marry Odin x Nyx:

    - Leo x Sakura is pretty much locked in this case

    - Orochi x Azama or Orochi x Hayato (which is pretty much for completeness's sake; I don't use any of these characters, or their children)

    - Elise is again left with Niles

If I marry Odin x Elise:

    - Leo x Sakura or Leo x Nyx is possible

    - If I marry Leo x Sakura, I can marry Hayato x Nyx

...So basically, if I don't marry Odin x Elise, Elise's phenomenal MAG and SPD growths don't get passed on to any worthwhile children, but this also means that I miss out on the fantastic Tomefaire for Ophelia... I'm really not sure how to resolve this.

  15. Pity, because Laslow/Selena gives Laslow a class he doesn't mind, and Selena her Ninja class.

    Anyway. . .I'd do:

    - Azura/Takumi (since Azura wants nothing to do with the front lines, and Bowfaire on a Kinshi Knight is also funny)

    - Kaze/Effie (this is surprisingly effective on both of them, but if you REALLY want that wife pool you mentioned, go with Kaze/Peri, because I have other plans for Hana)

    - Xander/Charlotte (Siegbert gets 'zerker access, and his skill works best in the back)

    - Leo/Sakura (it also gives Forrest access to another tome/staff class)

    - Benny/Rinkah (Rinkah is fine with being an armored unit, and Ignatius with Death Blow is funny; Beruka works if you really REALLY want a pure tank)

    - Odin/Orochi (Ophelia's Speed is irrelevant if she nukes enemies in one hit)

    - Laslow/Hana (yes, Soliel makes a good swordmaster, though I adore her as a ninja).

Thanks for your input. Here are my comments:

Azura x Takumi: Probably the one I'll go for. I will likely just give both Azura and Shigure Amaterasu + Bowfaire/Quick Draw/Aggressor for really big damages with good backline support.

Kaze x Effie: I don't use Kaze in this playthrough, as he has been completely outclassed by Saizo in every possible way. I didn't originally intend to use Effie, but Ninja Effie sounds interesting, so I might go for that if I don't do Laslow x Effie.

Xander x Charlotte: I don't intend to use Siegbert or Charlotte, so this pairing doesn't interest me much. The reason I intend to go for Xander x Hinoka is to get Xander Sky Knight access for Amaterasu - I like having that on as many units as possible.

Leo x Sakura: This looks like the one I'll go for. Tomefaire is just really good, plus I just like pairing up the royals...

Benny x Rinkah: I don't use Rinkah (or Ignatius), but having Counter on Benny would be nice. Rinkah vs Beruka is mostly a question of whether I want Counter or Savage Blow/Trample more.

Odin x Orochi: You do have a point. Tomefaire is also very appealing...

Laslow x Hana: Since Hana got mostly RNG-screwed in this run, going Hero might succeed in making her slightly less glassy. It also turns Soleil into a glass cannon much like her mother... I'll have to see how this one holds up vs Laslow x Effie.

Somewhat off-topic: Saizo was blessed by the RNG gods to the point that I'm wondering why I even still use any other units. He could probably solo most levels with just a healer backing him up. I'll likely not take that many ninjas along at this point; probably just Soleil, if at all.

  16. So far, I've finalized Saizo x Femui and Subaki x Selena. Caeldori is looking pretty good so far, and Asugi has hilariously absurd SPD as the result of Femui having +SPD. I'm currently in the process of grinding Ryoma x Camilla as well, so that takes a few possible pairings out of the equation. Having given it all a little more thought, the following pairings are still on the table:

Azura x Takumi: As mentioned in the first post, Azura and Shigure might make good Snipers.

Azura x Kaze: They also might make good Ninjas.

Kaze x Hana: Given how incredibly outclassed Hana is in terms of damage output in this run (Femui has been blessed by the RNG this time), turning her into a Ninja is looking more and more appealing for its added safety...

Kaze x Peri: Still on the table but unlikely, given that I don't see myself using Peri at the moment.

Xander x Hinoka: Currently the only pairing I consider worthwhile on Xander. Or does anyone have a better suggestion?

Leo x Nyx: Adventurer Forrest sounds cool for Shining Bow shenanigans.

Leo x Sakura: Gets Forrest access to Onmyoji and with it, Tomefaire.

Benny x Beruka: What I originally used and still consider viable... mostly. But it's probably time to experiment.

Benny x Rinkah: Gets Benny access to Counter, which is nice, considering that his entire purpose is standing on a chokepoint and soaking up damage...

Benny x Oboro: Given that Benny's primary weapon is a lance, Lancefaire will be nice to have - as will some of the Seal skills.

Odin x Nyx: It worked out very well on my Conquest run, but if I marry Nyx to Leo for Adventurer Forrest shenanigans...

Odin x Orochi: Ophelia gets access to Tomefaire this way, but her SPD takes a nasty hit as a result.

Odin x Elise: Gives Ophelia plenty of MAG and SPD, but her defenses are bombed...

Laslow x Charlotte: I'm mostly worried about Soleil's DEF and RES growths in this case.

Laslow x Effie: So far the one I'm considering the most.

Laslow x Hana: For when I figure that Soleil might make a good Swordmaster.

  17. Not really. Her role is more like the last two Avatars. a friend and ally of the Lord that has nearly as much importance to the plot

This pretty much summed it up.

Both Azura and Robin are very close friends of their respective leader, and both have a deep, significant connection to the game's antagonist, even if it isn't immediately apparent.

  18. Personally, I enjoyed seeing Inigo, Owain and Severa again - especially seeing how they've gone through some character development since Awakening. I've yet to play Hidden Truths (still one week until it's released here in Europe), so I don't know the exact explanation for how they got there yet. No spoilers, please!

However, I felt like the second gen trio (Caeldori, Rhajat, Asugi) was rather weak by comparison. There's not even any explanation for why they happen to look almost exactly like their Awakening equivalents. I do use Caeldori a lot because I happen to love Cordelia and she makes an amazing Swordmaster... but I'm not a fan of the other two.

As for whether Fates children should return in the next FE... probably not. I feel like the Fates children overall have far less charm than the Awakening children do - the only one I really like is Ophelia, because she's hilarious (especially whenever her and her father are in the same room together). Shigure and Shiro are also pretty cool, but they're fairly one-note.

I'd be open to the idea of a direct sequel, however (a la Path of Radiance -> Radiant Dawn). Of course, that would be a problem for IS, given the multiple stories thing...

  19. This just in: Chapter 16 on Revelation (the one with the flame wall stuff). Most of the stage goes alright, with a couple close calls at the beginning... then after having killed every enemy on the map bar the boss, I decide to have Saizo attack him. Boss has a 51% chance to hit, 17% chance to crit with 17 base damage. Saizo has 32 HP, so I go for it... Naturally, the boss crits and Saizo dies. L + R + Start.

What annoys me the most isn't really that it happened - I need to be prepared for RNG screwage, after all - but that it decided to happen right there at the end.
