  1. Larcei, Ulster, Creidne, and Dalvin are all pretty underwhelming. Statistically Larcei and Ulster are better than Ayra and the subs and much more practical for general use. However because all I use the kids for is weakening enemies for other units to kill, the subs are actually preferable since they don't end up accidentally killing things. I'll give all 4 of them a 3/10.

  2. I'd prefer if subs were a separate rating from the non-subs although you could maybe post them both in the same update. As for the kids, most of them don't significantly change in use between fathers unless you really screwed up your pairings so I'd say it's fine to have no special conditions and just rate them on general use.

Similarly Larcei is pretty much unscrewable since she's Ayra++ in all situations and Ayra's one major issue isn't exactly fixable with a dad (lack of horse). Ulster will have to deal with magic dad screwing up stats, if he is unfortunate enough to get one, but Larcei just kinda can't get fucked up. She'd be decent at the worst.

On the flip side, a magic dad can give him a magic niche and help him make use of his +3 magic on promotion. Larcei is the one who gets the short end of the stick having both a poor strength and poor magic growth.

One could say that LTC is an unfair measure for Levin, but when you start giving him the luxury of more turns to get into position, you might as well give Ardan enemy reinforcements to grind on!

LTC is unfair for Levin since he can't even pick up Forseti. I think there should be some slack for picking up items that you have no reason not to pick up other than it costing turns like Lex's hero axe.

  5. My problem with Gaiden maps is they are such a chore to play without a warp user and especially Celica's maps where you have to exploit the revive mechanic in order to get a warp user. The other thing I find very annoying about maps is all the terrain which makes it incredibly annoying to deal with enemies because of all the avoid they are given. I normally don't mind terrain but in Gaiden the bonuses are very high and you already don't have the best hit rates and you have almost no way of countering it outside of a very low chance of getting the moonlight lance. 1-5 is particularly frustrating because getting the enemies off the terrain feels like such a huge chore especially for that archer since he has such a long range, he'll never feel the need to move off it. Gaiden maps are decent but I don't think any of them are really exceptional displays of good map design and most of them have a lot of wasted space.

Is that really the case? I looked at your tables on reddit yesterday and iirc you said there they weren't taking into account Rescue, so the C4 and 5 TCs wouldn't have been accurate. And doesn't Azel have to pair with Aideen for the min TCs anyway?

The Claude pairing saves about 2-3 turns to Azel when you compare the gen 2 saves to the gen 1 saves so those numbers are accurate to what you would be looking at(Though it might be a turn off cause I think a 13 turn of CH5 is possible.) Some of the pairings are very borderline and not that viable to do in LTC. In particular it's extremely difficult to pair Lachesis and Brigid in the same run unless Brigid is paired with Midir and Lachesis is paired with someone in the Azel Jealousy group because they share Jealousy lists. Tailto unfortunately only pairs with Claude in time and since Claude is taken she's not getting paired.

  7. If he misses then you aren't getting the low turn count so it's a reset. He has a 33% hit chance which is fine since the rest of the map is a breeze and actually reliable. Valkyrie staff is on Lester in LTC so no revives gen 2. I suppose you could let her die and not revive her if all you care about is turns but I don't see much of a point to it. If you aren't going for the Low Turn count I don't see much of a reason not to pick up Julia and just win the game normally. Hel mage strats are super cheesy and I doubt many people care for it outside of low turning.

Edit: Actually it is theoretically possible to 1 round Julius with Faval charge procs so I suppose you could try that as a last resort if he does miss. Though the odds of that happening are slim to none.

  8. Nah he won't attack anyone else because they should be too far away or dead. The most reliable way I have found to complete the map is to 2 turn Freege castle and then 3 turn Belhalla(You can't 2 turn it because Leif and Laylea are too far away). This gives you enough time to bait away/kill everyone and keep your team safe. The Hel mage will likely not attack Julius the first turn he's berserked because there are other targets but once those targets are out of reach he goes for Julius.

Doing the Sleep strategy would actually put Altenna at a significant chance of Death. Fee can get away with it because Fee can equip the Earth sword(Although it's still not ideal) but Altenna's magic is terrible.

Besides, penalising Altenna for the turns cost to recruit her seems off to me, especially since nobody's been penalising various second gen chars for the fact you have to spend extra turns to get their parents paired up to recruit them. Altenna is there every run regardless of how fast you did Gen 1. (or if they have I missed that!)

I'm not penalizing her for having a recruit cost but saying she's good in LTC is ridiculous. Also the only kids it cost turns to create are Arthur and Tinny which would cost you 3 extra turns to have Tailto paired with Azel, Altenna costs you 4.

There's a glitch in the game, where Status Swords have a 100% chance of afflicting anyone with more than 30 RES.  So in addition to Berserking the Hel Mage, you can ALSO put Julius to Sleep.  Do that, and the Hel Mage will ALWAYS target Julius over everyone else!  But if you don't do that, then the guy could attack just about anyone.  So once you have Fee Berserk the Hel Mage, you can THEN have Althena put Julius to sleep.  If you have Sharlow, however, then yeah; Fee is the only flier required.

You don't need to put Julius to sleep as he is guaranteed to attack Julius turn 2 and it's impossible for Seliph to seize in 2 turns.

Edit: Actually you can get a 2 turn on the last castle but it requires you to sacrifice a turn on Freege castle which is a less reliable way to do the map. This is such an odd ball scenario that I'm not even sure why we are considering it.

and you also NEED her for LTCing strats in Final if you didn't get Sharlow's Berserk Staff.

If for whatever reason you aren't grabbing the berserk staff, you would use the berserk sword on Fee. Altenna is legitimately the only unit the whole game that costs turns to recruit, even Faval/Asaello and Hannibal can be recruited without turn loss. Altenna is likely the worst unit in an LTC setting so this really isn't an argument in her favor.

Besides that, I've found using him to be outright...frustrating, at times.  I HAVE to have either passed down the Return Staff to Nanna, or passed down the Return Ring to Leaf; otherwise, I have to wait a while before I can even get them to any of my Chapter 7 castles.  And if I want to promote Leaf at Chapter 8...I also can't easily do THAT unless I have said Return Ring or Return Staff.  Otherwise, I have to manually walk him all the way down to where the main castle is.  These aren't crippling issues, but I still feel like I have to work around his starting positions more than I do most of the other units in this game.

You can also have Lana Rescue him. It should be mentioned that there really isn't that good of a reason to put too much effort into promoting Leif for chapter 8 if you didn't pass down the rescue staff. The one thing though that you seem to not be taking into account as much as I think you should is how useful A rank staff on a horse is. He can fix up the movement problems of foot units and in general help you get around maps much more quickly, he leads every charge so the redundancy argument really doesn't work with him because there is no reason not to bring him with you. It's less that other units make him redundant and more of he makes other units redundant.

With that aside Ares is pretty cool. He can actually damage Arvis with decent hit which is something not many units can say. His high damage output makes him one of the few units not falling off by endgame so 8/10 seems fitting.

  12. Quick pairing, in fact it's Brigid's only viable LTC pairing. Patty gets pursuit and Midir can pass down rings for her to get a nice amount of gold to pass around so it actually is fairly good for her. Faval gets charge which is alright but he is mostly the same unit.

  13. Interface was making the argument that foot units are not that good in this game. What's so hard to understand about that? It's not a joke and it's not implying efficient play at all.

    About you edit, Interface asked:

Do I really need to preface an opinion with a disclaimer? I'm not an efficiency player at all...

    And you responded with:

    6 hours ago, FionordeQuester said:

I'd...say it'd be a good idea whenever you say things like "you guys need to do more of X, and start doing more of Y".

To me this reads like you are recommending that users put a disclaimer about their playstyle.

  14. 1 hour ago, FionordeQuester said:

Indeed; that's why I never go after people's play styles.  The only reason I bring it up is because Inference asked if he "really had to put a disclaimer" for every time he criticized someone's way of playing.  He seemed to be expressing frustration over my response to him; that, to me, implied that he never wanted a counter-argument to start with.

Hence, I told him that it would be a good idea to put a disclaimer at the beginning of his posts if he doesn't feel like having a discussion about what he said.  Otherwise, yeah; my natural instinct is going to be to tell him exactly why I disagree with him.

This exactly not what happened at all. Interface is claiming that they started a new run of FE4 and are having trouble using foot units and thinks foot units should receive a harsher score because of how disadvantaged they seem to be to them. You immediately assumed they were talking about "efficient play" and attacked their argument on that false premise. They weren't talking about how to play the game or anything like that and they shouldn't have to explain how they are playing because it had nothing to do with their argument in the slightest. Not every argument calling foot units bad is about "efficient play" but that is the conclusion you seem to have drawn. Every part of your argument was built on a false structure of their argument so in the end you essentially said nothing other than "I don't agree with you".

  15. Lex!Arthur is pretty strong but he does rather poorly against long range weapons. With a magic ring on promotion with Thoron he will have 36 attack that with critical should bump his attack to 72 which should 1 shot all non boss enemies and even a few bosses.Vantage gives him first attack so he can usually get away unscathed on an enemy phase allowing him to stay at low HP. Azel is better for inexperienced players but if you know what you are doing Lex is far superior.

  16. Shanan shouldn't have problems surviving a hit from Ishtar. If my math is correct she has 52 attack and Shanan has base 38 hp and 4 RES. With a barrier ring he is guaranteed to survive at level 18 thanks to his +100% hp growth. Usually for me he is around level 17 by that point so he would just need +1 res or to proc his extra 20% hp growth once to be able to survive. He needs 1 point in strength to 2HKO her with a brave sword as well but most characters can do that.
