    it's my pleasure to

    on that note, catria's name is consistently displayed as "cattria"

    additionally, are minor bosses' names being updated to their equivalents in echoes? i found that barth (the pirate boss of the leon/valbar/kamui join map) uses his name from echoes here but garth (boss of first celica map in act 3) instead uses the name "garon" and i'd like to know if i should point these out when i see them

    Thank you!
    Most likely I forgot to update Garth after I changed Digraphs
    Same case with Catria, I'll get to fixing those asap

    playing gaiden for the first time using this patch and all is well except for the name of chapter 2 which i assume is "celica's leave"

    oddly enough celica's name in dialogue is completely fine

    Thank you for this! The reason Celica is fine is because I changed Digraphs for the names, and forgot to update chapter 2. Keep these screenshots coming! I really appreciate it! Updates may be slow since Im working on FE3 but I am taking note of things I need to fix

    I'd be happy to put the word out on the Fire Emblem subreddit and see if we can round up some play testers there. I didn't even know about this patch as I don't regularly visit here. I only found out about it because Mega Koopa wrote up a history of Fire Emblem fan translations and mentioned it there. So a lot of other people probably don't know about this either. I'd been hoping to see a more up-to-date patch for Gaiden with the official name localizations. So I'm glad you've taken that up.

    Is that the same as you're doing with FE3? Or what kind of updates are you making there? I'm not really aware of the status on fan translations on that one.

    The FE3 translation is similar, but more polished, I started it when I was 19 and I was just completely re-writing book 2, and updating the names of course. I didn't know how to read japanese back then so I took a lot of creative liberties with the translation. I have thought about going through and re-writing but I think I'll just polish out and bug fix what I have with FE3 and leave it at that. as for sharing it, yes please do, the more playtesters the better.

    Thanks for updating this patch! You should upload it to Romhacking.net. I didn't even know about this patch until I saw it mentioned in a FE translation history Mega Koopa put together and posted on the the Fire Emblem subreddit. I'm glad to see Gaiden getting a little love as it seemed like it was one of the last that still needed a little polish to update the names to the official translations.

    You mentioned you were still working on it. What are your further plans for the patch?

    Yes! Though right now I'm mostly focused on finishing my as of yet unreleased FE3 update patch, as I feel that game needs it more. Once I'm done there I'm gonna focus on polishing out this patch, I feel it's mostly complete but it has yet to be play tested thoroughly, if you can spread the word to anyone interested in sending images of bugs here that'd be appreciated as it would expedite the workload.
    I'm not sure if it would be appropriate to post it to romhacking without the original translator's consent, so i have to ask for that but I'll do it when I'm confident with the hack and after FE3

    I know this is a late response, but I finally got around to playing through the patch. And I noticed a couple of errors. The first thing I noticed was with Silque's name being accidentally rendered as Si&ue" and Tatiana missing an a in her name. Also, with the spell list, I noticed you shorthanded Expel and Seraphim in order to fit the old spell names, but you can easily get around that if you modify the pointers to take advantage of extra space.

    By that, I mean for example, when I did FE1, Sheeda was six characters and Katua was five characters, but their updated names, Caeda and Catria, have five and six respectively. So, what I did was use the location where Sheeda was stored and use that for Catria's name, and use the location Katua was in for Caeda's name. Then I'd look for the pointers that referenced their name locations, and swap them so the right names appeared, without needing to use extra space.

    Also some of the terms aren't updated. "Shaman" should be "Cantor", "HiKnight" should be "Fiend", and "Wizard" should be "Arcanist". Some weapons are also not updated, some of the Blessed weapons are still called "Holy", and the "Speed Ring" is still called "Quick Ring." I also don't think you needed to rename the Bolt Sword to "Levin Sword" since the Levin Sword that appears in Archanea, Awakening, Fates and Three houses is a different weapon from the Thunder Sword that appears in Gaiden, Jugdral, and Engage. Obviously "Thunder" wouldn't fit, so keeping "Bolt" would have been fine.

    Aside from those few criticisms, this is a nice patch. I thought it'd be impossible to make a patch using all the official names, especially with Luthier, Delthea, and Mathilda, that's a lot of text characters being eaten up with their names alone. So, I'm impressed.

    Thank you so much!
    It's been a while since I thought about this project since right after I started real life hit me in the balls like, 10 times in a row
    The double Python could be because I got confused somewhere and accidentally named someone python due to the old name
    Silque was already fixed, at this point I don't believe I got around to the class names/I did them but had to move back to an old version cuz I messed up and the rom wouldn't load. I probably should've clarified that this wasn't finished and was a personal project
    Oops =w=

    Thanks for this super accessible tool for this, really helps with my rando runs to be able to enjoy (Or just shenanigan) my randomizer runs, and on the more shinanigan side... between the original and the bonus sprites, there doesn't seem to be a hawkeye available, which would be super nice to be able to edit towards just for the sake of giving multi berserkers some variety. ;~;

    Sorry for the late reply kinda took a break from FE for a while ;w;
    I will get to work on that, problem is I did these so long ago and I do not remember HOW I got these all done. But I'll figure it out and try to update it by the end of today lol.

    I don't know if its labeled something else or I don't have it, but I can't find a normal shaman in fe recolor and this.

    Well, It should be included in the Normal FE Recolor, Its not labeled Shaman for whatever reason
    Same with the Druid, Cavalier and Armor Knight. I believe it is labeled Sorcerer
    If you still cant find it I suggest trying to redownload it.

    Thanks for adding this but I have to ask where is the Rogue sprite? I've been searching around trying to find its sprite board with no luck

    Sorry I missed this earlier
    The Rouge Sprite should've already come with FE Recolor, Maybe check the most recent version?

    I'm looking for the knight sprite and definitely can not find it. Also the colors are not aligned for the ranger sprite but I guess everyone can fix it by themselves.

    The Armor Knight Sprite is included with FE Recolor, and it works for all 3 GBA games, it's labelled Lieutenant though, if that's what your asking for. Also, Thanks for letting me know about the Ranger sprite, I'll get to work on that right away

    Edit: I've triple checked, and the Ranger sprite seems to be working perfectly. You must've accidentally messed up the palette order, that's the only explanation I can think of why its not working for you.

  10. So, If you don't know what FE Recolor is,1) Why are you here, and 2) It is a program made by BwdYeti. (Link Right here)
    It's a very cool program that lets you recolor sprites from the GBA era of Fire Emblem. However, it is missing a lot of sprites, and while the Pirate one is easy to find, the rest, like the FE6 exclusive Sprites and ESPECIALLY the monsters from FE8, are really hard to find, to the point where through all my digging, I could only scrape up a tutorial on how to make sprites compatible.

    So I made pretty much all the sprites I could, and they're all here: Missing Sprites Here, Ta Daaaaaa

    These include all the Monster sprites, Most, if not all FE6 Exclusive Sprites, and some missing sprites from FE7.
    I also did some work on some already existing Sprites, so that it shows more versions that use it's palette. For Example, the Female Druid sprite uses the same Palette as the Male Druid, however the original FE Recolor Sprite image only showed the male, so I put in the female. I marked the ones I worked on under revised so that you don't have to change anything, its just so that you can see it for an example.

    Directions
    Step 1: Extract all to a safe Location where it wont cause any hassle for you
    Step 2: Go into Missing Sprites>Sprites and Copy all the Pictures there into FE Recolor>sprites>battle_sprites
    Step 3: Go into Missing Sprites>Data and Copy all the .dat files into FE Recolor>data>sprites, This makes it so that you don't have to manually re position all the Palette indexes.

    For the Revised Sprites: Same steps as 2 and 3 except be sure to delete/move the previous .png and .dat files before adding them.

    UPDATE
    I've added The FE7 Female Thief Sprite, It could be the FE6 Sprite, but It was just easier to make an all new one.

    -Added Berserker (Hawkeye) and a Lucius Sprite on the Bishop image.
    Notes
    So I have tested all the sprites I could with BS Palette assembler, however, I could not test the Monster sprites, Zephiel's sprite, or the Manakete-transformed sprites. Please tell me if they don't work too well in-game and please provide screenshots. Also make sure its correct on your end. Also, If I missed any sprites, please tell me, as I'll make it and add it on. Thank you in advance! And I hope I was of help.

  11. Is there any functionality with FE6? I want to be able to edit my randomized sprites for that game but I cant find any sprite sheets in the image library that comes with FE Recolor
