Give them the entire weapon triangle at base but with E ranks in everything, and you promote to the appropriate Tier 1 class upon hitting D rank in the respective weapon.

    THIS.

Though, if Fire Emblem Switch is only going to have a maximum of three weapon types per class, I would simply leave out bows.

But with this in mind, now we need to know which specific Tier 1 class they would promote to (e.g. Mercenary vs. Myrmidon).

Fates - Is Nyx Bad?  I see people say she's bad, but i don't see it. And also Felicia.  Felicia's one that is hard for me to pass up, even though I like female corrin more.

A typical Nyx Level Up from my experience will consist of Magic and Speed and maybe Resistance and that's about it.  Her low Skill is particularly troublesome.  I saw one person call her a "magical loli Gonzalez", but I find that to be an insult to Gonzalez, who at least had far better HP in addition to comparable offensive stats.

She makes a good mother for Ophelia, Forrest, or Rhajat, though.

FE4: Ulster and Larcei. Foot units where foot units really only slow you down. Also Johalva/Iucharba, just due to the uniqueness of him, even if basically everything that makes him unique also makes him bad.

FE5: Tanya I like to use for unit variety, and also as an on-map boost to Orsin, even though bows are pretty bad in this game. For whatever reason people seem to HATE Troude, but I've used him a few times, and he's never been a bad unit. Statistically he's fine too, but yeah, people hate him. I also put a lot of care into Lara to get her to promote all 3 times.

FE6: Any axers. I always use Geese, usually use Gonzales, and sometimes use Lot, even though axes are dogshit in this game. I also like to use Oujay, and my tendencies towards using Ests continues with Zeiss. And I'll shill out the 10k to get uber-Hugh, who usually becomes my go-to Anima user if I decide against using Lilina.

    ...

    FE14: Charlotte.

I really wanna use Iucharba if I ever manage to get past the first generation of Genealogy of the Holy War, if only because he's the closest thing that game has to a playable Brigand.

Tanya is turning out shockingly well in my current playthrough of Thracia 776 and I imagine it'll be really fun to use her and Osian together when I get around to promoting him.  I figured Troude was disliked mostly for not being Shiva or Mareeta.

I would've used Geese as my Berserker instead of Gonzalez if he hadn't gotten RNG-screwed.  Maybe I'll use him if I play Binding Blade again and take Elffin's route where Gonzalez ends up worse.

And yeah, Charlotte is definitely one of my favorite units to use in Fates because of how hilarious it is to see her with such high Critical.  She'll probably be the only non-Child Unit in my current playthrough of Fates: Revelation who gets an S-Rank weapon.

  4. 1.  Bring back weapon durability, but make weapons more durable than in previous games.

    2.  Bring back Thracia 776's Capture system, but with some modifications.  Like, if you clear the map while still holding some captured enemies, said enemies can be held prisoner (unless they're plot-relevant, of course) and may be bribed or persuaded into joining you like in Fates, or possibly even sold for ransom.

    3.  Give us an Avatar with as little plot relevance as possible and allow the player to choose his/her class from the beginning.

    4.  Assuming S-Supports and Child Units are coming back, limit possible S-Support partners to perhaps three to five (mainly to discourage writing a large number of low-quality Support chains).  If same-sex S-Supports are also coming back, bring back substitute characters like in Genealogy of the Holy War to compensate for the Child Units you'd lose.

    5.  Reclassing limited to one alternate class, period.

    6.  Keep Thieves with debuffing 1-2 range Daggers, that was a great idea.

    7.  If Laguz/Taguel-esque units are coming back, allow them to transform into different types of beasts like Manaketes could in Mystery of the Emblem.

    8.  Bring back Weight and Constitution.

Those are the major ones I can think of.

  5. Fighter.thumb.png.761e0aaeb8edc2ebb09a99cd190e0e89.png

The Fighter class's design is mostly based off the one from the GBA games with added gold trim around the sleeves and bottom.  These Fighters promote into Crusaders (renamed War Cleric class) instead of Warriors; that promotion has been given to the Hunter class instead.

    Brigand.thumb.png.3a030d80960b1c4c24d93b9c3bfd0643.png

The Brigand class's design is actually based more on the Pirate class's design from the DS games, with an added Arabian (is that right?) twist.  Aside from the new female design, there's not much else to say about it.

    590f1e08da4ad_WyvernRider.thumb.png.65c030147ec960fccbf8a982a13d69ba.png

The Wyvern Rider's design is probably the most challenging I've yet had to do.  The main problem I had with making it was how I could make it look more distinct from its pegasus-riding counterpart.  Unlike with the previous classes up to now, I did not base it on any official designs, instead basing it mostly on my Pegasus Rider design with changes (that is, a little more armor) to make it look 'heavier' than what a pegasus might be able to handle.

  6. I hope that they show off as many good games as they imply they are by their "big plans".  I definitely want to see FE Warriors and FE Switch and especially SMT Switch.

I also expect to see more of Super Mario Odyssey, since that actually looks rather interesting.  I wouldn't mind seeing a new 3D Kirby platformer, though I wouldn't expect it.

  7. My favorites:

    1) Megami Tensei (specifically the main series), mainly for the challenging gameplay and demon fusion, but also the generally thought-provoking nature of its stories and its tackling of difficult subject matter

    2) Fire Emblem, again mainly for the strategy gameplay and other mechanics, though I often have to resort to grinding or Arena Abuse

    3) Ratchet & Clank, as the series that truly got me into gaming in the first place when I was little

    4) Ape Escape, with its unique gameplay and controls making it a criminally underrated series considering that it introduced the world to the legendary DualShock line of controllers

    5) Kirby, largely for the cute character designs and stories, which have since gone on to influence my own art style and preferences

  8. Well...  I usually don't think about prioritizing one over the other.

I guess normally I get weapons first if withstanding enemy attacks isn't the biggest concern I have.

The main exception would probably have to be the Megami Tensei series, especially in the first game where Nakajima and Yumiko start off very weak and have hardly any means of healing.

  9. Soldier.thumb.png.f40de55439a3d878f2900b7c55dcd778.png

The Soldier class's design here mostly resembles its Awakening/Fates appearance, but with a different helmet and a mail skirt to make it look a little less anachronistic.  They share the option of promoting to Doppelsöldners with Mercenaries.

    591b877e37be1_HeavySoldier.thumb.png.c4353ec4174e61f9ebef961377921319.png

Here, the Knight class is instead known as Heavy Soldier to fit a more Roman theme.  I tried to make the design look particularly bulky while also bearing a passing resemblance to a Roman soldier (mainly in the shoulders, helmet, and shield).  This is especially important since the Reman military uses many of this class.  These Knights can also promote into Barons for more Resistance and the ability to wield Tomes.

    Cavalier.thumb.png.eb46c75b1eecd14795bef1f146904984.png

These Cavaliers are meant specifically to look like light cavalrymen to contrast themselves with the more heavily armored Knights.  They also wear turbans reminiscent of Hardin and Alec from Shadow Dragon and Genealogy of the Holy War, respectively.  They are Lance-locked and gain Swords upon promotion to Paladin.  Speaking of promotion, instead of Great Knights (which will not be appearing in these class drawings), these Cavaliers promote into Dragoons, an original class of mine that acts as a tankier alternative to the Paladin and rides a flightless dragon called a drake.

    590e316660246_PegasusRider.thumb.png.ca50ca8159f111e350cd06c344156024.png

In my class drawings, Pegasus Knights are known instead as Pegasus Riders (like in Thracia 776).  They are more covered up in my depiction than in traditional ones, as I imagine it must get rather chilly while flying through the air.  Male Pegasus Riders wear something resembling a modern-day flight suit (altered to fit the archaic/Medieval fantasy setting).  Female Pegasus Riders now wear full-body tights under their clothing, but are otherwise unchanged.  Also, they can now promote into Griffon Knights to gain the ability to wield Axes.

I like your ideas! I really like that you post skills and promotions. I love doppelsöldner class (I introduced it in my class chart too, but with name Conqueror). I wish you post more ^^

And you can take a look to my class chart if you want :3

Soon ill illustrate my class tree with sprites (maybe after my university exams u.u)

Thanks!  I have all of the Lance-wielding unpromoted classes ready, but would not like to post them too quickly.

  11. With the Lords out of the way, I can start showing the other unpromoted classes.

    Myrmidon.thumb.png.e7db28a55e4ac25bf0caadd676108dd9.png

For the Myrmidon class, I tried to do something that looked more like their GBA/DS appearances, yet still looked different.  ...Okay, so I pretty much just adapted Inigo Montoya's (from The Princess Bride) costume into a more simplified appearance for my drawing style.  Most of the less formal groups (like bandits and villagers) would have these as their main Sword-wielding units, with Mercenaries being employed by wealthier ones.  Oh, and these Myrmidons can also promote into Mage Fighters for added ranged utility with Tomes, since Assassins, their traditional alternate promotion, wield Daggers instead of Swords in my class drawings.

    Mercenary.thumb.png.53eab0502ced48b31293196457c692a7.png

I have less to say about Mercenaries.  I wanted to do a blend of their GBA/DS and Awakening/Fates designs, so they have the same uniform as GBA/DS Mercenaries, but the shoulder shield from the Awakening/Fates ones instead of that weird half-chestplate thing.  Instead of Rangers, they can promote into Doppelsöldners (basically the Landsknecht class from the Staff of Ages hack and Mangs's FE8 PME hack) for the added ability to wield Lances.

  12. Starting off, we have both of the Lord classes I created for protagonist OCs:

    590d3a3f56c05_Lord(Claudus).png.385914717872aa279408a8b3daaf86a1.png

The first variant is for Claudus, a prince of the kingdom of Rema (based off the Roman Empire, if you couldn't tell).  He and his half-brother Cato are both the sons of the king, though Cato takes precedence as inheritor of the throne since his mother is the queen, whereas Claudus's mother is a concubine.  When their father dies and Cato ascends the throne, Cato makes Claudus a commander of the Reman army and Claudus reluctantly carries out his father and brother's operations of conquest.  As a unit, Claudus's main focus is on Strength and Speed, and his promotion, Knight Lord, is essentially a modified Paladin class that can also use Staves in addition to Swords and Lances.

The second variant is for Carol, the last living member of Rema's original royal family.  Her family was overthrown in a coup led by Claudus's father; her mother took refuge with a merciful bandit chief who eventually became her father.  She grew up in the neighboring kingdom of Ferenca, subsisting as a counter-bandit who targets other bandits and returns their loot to the needy.  Unlike Claudus, Carol focuses more on Skill than Strength to offset her inaccurate choice of weaponry in Axes.  Her promotion, Great Lord, is essentially a modified Warrior class that also wields Swords in addition to Axes and Bows.

Carol starts a rebellion against Rema's attempted annexation of Ferenca and other kingdoms, so Cato sends Claudus to stop the rebellion.  However, Claudus, who sympathizes along with his troops with Carol's cause as someone who opposes Reman imperialism, cannot take it any longer and changes sides, and so Claudus and Carol work together to thwart Cato's plans of continental conquest.

    Lord (Carol).png

  13. So something I've been wanting to do for a while is make a full set of profiles for my ideal Fire Emblem class tree.  Each one is a set of class uniforms (both male and female for each class) followed by class bases, max weapon ranks, weaknesses and promotions (if applicable), and Skills.

The Skill system I thought of works like this:  Each class has 1-2 Class Skills and a single Learnable Skill.  Class Skills are, as you would imagine, tied to the class and are not retained when reclassing, except when the old and new classes have a Skill or two in common.  For example, if a Swordmaster reclasses into, say, a Sage, his/her Class Skills would change from Pursuit and Critical +10 to Focus and Miracle.  The Learnable Skill, on the other hand, is obtained when the unit reaches a certain Level (usually 10) and always carries over between classes.  For example, given the above scenario, if the Swordmaster had Astra when reclassing, then he/she would keep that Skill, unlike the fixed Class Skills.

Tharja. I love her character a lot when she isn't being weirdly abusive.

Sothe, Charlotte, Fiona, Wendy, Marisa, and Natasha are all semi-bad units who I really like. I love their designs and personalities.

I love using Charlotte for her big knockers Critical rates.  In fact, she's probably one of the reasons I like axe users (especially Berserkers) so much.

  15. I'd like to see class designs that adhere more to the GBA art style and have some sort of historical inspiration, if not accuracy (such as Great Knights as Byzantine Cataphracts for example, War Monks/Clerics in Crusader garb, or even Heroes as Viking foot soldiers)

As for fanservice, I have no problem with it as long as they keep it subtle (which probably won't happen).

  16. I have an idea, but it's more from a story perspective than a gameplay one.

Earlier, your main character and his/her allies would be serving the antagonist kingdom with one of the playable units (specifically the Jagen character) being the protagonist's evil commanding officer.  In the chapter in which your group formally defects from the enemy kingdom, this Jagen character would become the chapter boss you'd have to beat.  The main purpose of this would be to really display how much stronger your team has become since the beginning of the game.

  17. Most of these probably aren't really new classes so much as they are reinterpretations of older classes, but I'll put in my two cents as well:

-a non-flying class that rides dragons (could be thought of as a tankier but slower alternative of the Cavalier class)

-an armored promotion for Mages; basically like Generals, but with more Magic and Resistance in exchange for HP and Defense (in other words, a newer version of the Baron class from the Jugdral games)

-an alternate promotion for Myrmidons that wields tomes, if Thieves are going to start wielding daggers like in Fates (basically the Mage Fighter class from Genealogy of the Holy War with an appropriately Eastern design)

-a transforming class similar to Laguz/Taguels that can transform into different types of animals like Manaketes in the Archanea games (for example, it could transform into a wolf for balanced stats, a bear for Strength and Defense, or a hawk for Speed and Resistance)

  18. What I think would be best is if the player got control of two Lords.  One would be the traditional Sword wielder who is part of the current ruling family, and the other would be a commoner/bandit Lord (preferably wielding Axes or Daggers) who was part of the original royal family and is supposed to be the real heir to the throne.  The two would have to work out their differences and band together along with their respective allies to resolve whatever crisis is threatening the land.

  19. Things I'd like to see:

    1) At least one main character with a non-Sword weapon (preferably Axes or Tomes).

    2) An Avatar character whose class you can choose at the very beginning and who has little impact on the story; perhaps the story could be presented as a firsthand account from your Avatar of his/her experiences serving under the main character(s).

    3) Different modes for story progression, such as a "free mode" that allows the player to grind indefinitely and a "fixed mode" that disables grinding and instead uses Bonus EXP like in the Tellius games.

    4) Weapon durability and weapons that are more expensive than in most other games, but also more durable.

    5) If Child Units are coming back split of the game into two arcs, one for each generation (like in Genealogy of the Holy War).

    6) At least one playable Brigand/Barbarian (because those are cool).

    7) A story focused around more common folk (as opposed to royalty), such as villagers or bandits.

  20. Hello to everyone here on Serenes Forest!  I'm Von Ithipathachai and I thought this would be a good forum to join!

I am primarily a fan of the Shin Megami Tensei video games, but have also been getting into Fire Emblem.  I started with Awakening and have been trying to play the older games; as to which games I've beaten, I have Gaiden, Mystery of the Emblem (Book 2), Binding Blade, Shadow Dragon, Awakening, and Fates under my belt.  I tried playing Genealogy of the Holy War, but overall didn't find the gameplay to my liking.  Currently I'm playing Thracia 776 (on Paragon Mode) and am finding that game more enjoyable.

In addition to DDS-NET, the Megami Tensei forum I'm part of, I'm also active on DeviantART and Tumblr, so perhaps you could check those out and provide feedback.  I'd appreciate it greatly.  Anyway, thanks for taking the time to look at this!
