Not everybody has your luck, buddy. Some of us are doomed to hear the ping coming from red units at least once a play session.

But my point was how low the chance of an enemy pulling a crit actually is, not necessarily just my experience with getting critted. I understand there is such a thing as enemy critical hits, but it almost never happens.

What's more, I don't see how Charlotte has unparalleled crit ratio, nor do I buy into it thanks to crits being far more helpful for the enemy than they are for the player.

Charlotte has a skill growth of 50%. She has the massive crit boost from Berserker, and with a Killer Axe, only Beruka and Arthur can really get the same ratio, and they don't do nearly as much damage. She has a solid hit chance once she's been leveled a few times, and honestly, the enemy units never crit anyway. There have been very few times in FE, just generally, where an enemy has gotten a critical hit on me. It may possibly not even be a two digit number if you don't count killer weapons.  And I have played many of the games in the series. Charlotte doesn't have to worry about getting critted because no one has to worry about getting critted, not even in Fates (unless your name is Arthur), her luck growth is 50% and her speed growth is 65%, meaning that she actually will dodge attacks often (which is calculated before critical hit ratio is in the RNG). Berserkers aren't built to get hit, they're designed to kill on the first hit with their critical ratio and monstrous strength. And when they don't, they have a safeguard in their high avoid and great HP stat. You shouldn't be dissing the character, you should be dissing the class if the problem is they get hurt easily.

For some reason I've never been a huge fan of Effie.  I've always preferred Benny as my main General for being virtually unkillable without anti-armor weapons.

Maybe if I replay Fates I can make her a Great Knight since she can bring her massive Strength to bear a little more easily and Benny does the General class's primary job of soaking damage a lot better.

I think both of them prefer General, although you might want Benny to get Luna from GK because he will never, ever double anything, so all of his damage is focused on the first and only hit. Not to mention his starting strength isn't exactly outstanding (Benny also enjoys Quixotic from Basara, which he can reclass into because of Hayato, if you're playing Revelations, Quixotic lets Benny activate Pavise and Luna all the time), although Benny should always end in General, no doubt. Also, Effie is fun to reclass (I made mine a swordmaster) because she's just good at everything, although her defense is actually not that great because she has a defense modifier of -1, even though her growth is good, meaning General is the only class where her defense is as good as it can be.

Speaking of, Charlotte's one of those units that everyone likes to hype as being good, but I just flat-out fail to see it. First off, she comes in underleveled (level 10 in chapter 13, and Conquest drops unpromoted units entirely after chapter 17). Second, she's a glass cannon in a game where defense is more important than ever. Third, she can't hit the broad side of a barn if her life depended on it, which it does because she has garbage defenses. And it DOES NOT HELP that Berserkers have a crit evade penalty in Fates. . . Could you really handle getting close to finishing an annoying chapter only to have to start over from scratch because your Berserker got killed by a critical hit from a random grunt?? Because I'd probably lose my sanity if that happened to me.

Charlotte's skill growth is actually pretty good at 50%. Her stats that aren't defense, resistance, and magic, are all at least 50%. Her luck backs her up so she doesn't get critted often, if you forge a bronze axe, she can work with that for a little bit and it gives her some dodge, and once she has gotten enough experience, she can transfer to stronger, less accurate weapons without a problem. I've actually never had my Charlotte get critted, she has a massive HP cushion, and after about one or two EXPonential Growth visits (honestly, that isn't even necessary, just pair her with someone who gives a big strength boost like Keaton), she becomes one of your best units, or at least pair-up fodder because of the huge strength boost she gives out. Charlotte's crit ratio capability and damage output are unparalleled in Fates, doing more damage than Beruka and Arthur, who have an edge over her in skill, and the only unit in the game that hits as hard as she does is Effie, who is an unfair comparison because Effie could arguably solo the game with very little support because her growths are insane.

The fact Camilla was able to win means the multiplier was doing what it was intended to do in the first place, make the outcomes not predictable.

Even though I like Lyn more than I like Camilla, it'd be hypocritical for me to dislike it when on the winning team and like it when on the losing team.  And overall, I still like it, because Gauntlet 1 and Gauntlet 2 were boring curbstomps.  I'd rather not have that anymore, and the multiplier prevents that.

Yeah, but the reason the group with more people should be winning is because more people support that team. The winning team shouldn't win if there isn't actually more support, and massive boosts to a team because they were losing horribly isn't fair to the other team. It isn't right that the teams are giving different levels of support, but the team that deserves the win doesn't get it because of an outrageous boost to the team that can't give as much support. I understand giving power to the character that has less of a fanbase, but the multiplier got out of hand really quick.

We shouldn't be screwing over a team that deserves to win because it would be "predictable."

Unpopular opinion: I still like the gauntlet multipliers, as a former Team Swimsuit Leo and lesser extent Former Team Lyn

They were the only reason Roy even stood a chance at making it past round 1.  I appreciate IS at least making it so it was a possibility that we won, even if we didn't.

I'm not saying eliminate the multiplier. But the multiplier shouldn't be able to get that high. She should have lost, but the multiplier got so high because the Gauntlet pitied her so much that she got a boost of what, 7.3?

  7. Just now, Armagon said:

Isn't Camilla's win the first time the multiplier actually worked though?

Did you see her multiplier? People were seriously angry. The multiplier should be for close matches, like Summer Leo and Summer Gaius, that was close. Camilla's wasn't close until all of a sudden her score started exploding because she was losing so bad.

  8. Just now, Armagon said:

The irony of this is that people wanted Voting Gauntlets to be more fairer for lesser popular characters.

Definitely. But really, there shouldn't be a booster for less popular characters. They lose because they aren't as popular. I'm okay with a booster, but Camilla's win showed people that the multiplier has gotten out of hand.

I think that's my root issue with Peri. I can't take her seriously. Her design is so.... odd compared to other Nohrians and her murder sprees feel like the writers didn't know what the kids like in waifus today and were like "what if we make her a sociopath? people get real turned on by those!" and it somehow failed yet succeeded spectacularly.

Yeah, I understand why people don't like her. I like her because her design is adorable, her voice is adorable, and she has a weird stat spread that I think is fun to use in comparison to the other tanky cavaliers, Xander and Silas.

I just love the Nohrian siblings in general. Are they well written? Uh, no. But do they have a ton of potential? Yes, and that's why I love them. You can read into them and find some really interesting tidbits, it's great. Camilla gets a lot of flak for her design, and while

I agree with it, it's not the worst. Charlotte's battle panties are worse, they seem to go right...up there, if you know what I mean, and she doesn't have armour infront of her crotch, only on the sides. You can't deny that Camilla is gorgeous though.

Yeah. To be fair, Charlotte is supposed to be a serious gold digger, and wants to show as much of her junk as she can :\ Camilla shouldn't have any interest in throwing herself at people, but alas... the panties.

People need to stfu about the whole 'thot' thing. I even saw a couple of videos about Caeda being the original FE thot and I wanted to...it just didn't feel good. I saw the rage during the CYL voting gauntlet when Camilla beat Lyn, and it was honestly disgusting the way people bashed Camilla. She doesn't do anything remotely sexual, she's just overly affectionate towards her siblings and retainers. Is she violent? Yes, but this can be traced back towards her past. But to me, when she says that she'll chop Selena's legs off to make sure she stays by her side, it comes across as a joke. People let Henry get away with saying that stuff, so why can't Camilla?

She shouldn't be bashed for the gauntlet. IS should be bashed because of the lack of a limit on the multiplier. Camilla shouldn't have earned the win. Because she didn't earn it :\ But Camilla doesn't deserve bashing.

Camilla having to kill her siblings is purely fanon.

Leo's claims are based off hearsay no matter the translation, but that just goes into the larger problem of how completely inconsistent the timeline of the Nohr siblings' lives and Fates in general are. I made a post about it here, but to put it succinctly Leo would have been four at most based on all the information given about Fates' pre-game timeline and thus should not be taken as a reliable source. He even says "I heard stories about the children of concubines on bad terms killing each other," which is pretty far from definitive proof.

But all of that makes sense. And I don't think the writers would just toss in a fun story about children murdering each other. I'm not saying Leo heard the exact truth, but really, it would never be any more than just gossip, because that sort of thing is covered up. And this is an excerpt from Camilla's support with Niles:

Camilla: Oh. Didn't you know? Xander is the only one of my siblings born to the queen. The rest of us--Leo, Elise, and I--we're all children of King Garon's mistresses. Different mistresses, I might add. He loved to pit our mothers against each other.

    Niles: I had no idea.

Camilla: Our mothers were the lowest of the low, trying to claw their way to a better status. Naturally, they used us as bait in all of their conflicts.

    Niles: Lady Camilla, I'm-

Camilla: You said I was pathetic, and you were right! My mother loved me, but only as a pawn. Do I dote on Avatar? Yes, I do! I remember what it feels like to be alone!

Honestly, it wouldn't make sense if this wasn't the case. Garon is a king that Leo said had a thing for women. So why would there only be four kids? And Camilla is so comfortable with killing, it would be completely logical if it was because she had done it for many years. It would tell you why they had to be so much stronger, they were in fear of being killed and had to learn how to defend themselves, because both Camilla and Leo you get promoted even though they are younger siblings, unlike the Hoshidan siblings, of which only one is promoted, who is the eldest. Additionally, Camilla says in the excerpt that Garon had all of those women at the same time, "pitting them against each other", which implies that he had probably had sex with each of them a few times and produced children, and that the children were forced against each other as bait. If that wasn't the case, then Garon just neatly had one kid with each concubine, which considering again his penchant for women, doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Xander also wouldn't have talked about this because as the first heir and the child of the actual queen, he most likely didn't have to worry about it, the concubines wouldn't have dared go after the true heir to the throne.

Yes, the Fates timeline is a hot mess. I am not complimenting the game by making sense of a past conflict. I am saying that an intelligent writer would never put that sort of information in dialogue without it either holding some truth or being a trick of some sort, but Fates doesn't acknowledge the idea of concubine children killing each other or acknowledge that it is a falsehood, meaning what you find is most likely true, because the information is there and it is not contradicted. There is no confirmation, but the player should be able to figure something like that out without the game directly telling them that Camilla has children's blood on her hands.

  11. 5 minutes ago, SoulWeaver said:

I think the real reason people hate on Camilla isn't her body type per se, rather it's the fact that here we have a character with a chance to have a really in-depth background explaining her…unique?…personality, and instead they literally just used her to push the sex appeal of the game so we end up with a rather disturbing one-note character with no explanation for why she acts so disturbingly obsessed with her siblings and Corrin. I mean, she isn't wearing pants. If you look you can totally tell she's just wearing some kind of armored leggings and panties for her legs. So no, we don't all hate on her for her body type or breast size, at least some of us are more pissed at her one-note-ness.

I don't find Camilla one-note at all. They should have fleshed out her character more, most definitely, but honestly, she was the only royal I really liked, the others were annoying (Takumi, Leo, Elise), jerks (Xander, Ryoma, Takumi, Leo), or just boring (Hinoka, Sakura). She wasn't a total jerk, she wasn't a hypocrite, she was designed costume-wise to be waifu material (gross), but honestly, there is a sort of explanation for her doting behavior.

Basically, she most likely was the only sibling that had to kill other siblings to secure her place for the throne, because she was at the right age when that all went down. In Leo and Elise's translated supports (not treehouse), Leo says that all the women who had children with Garon wanted their kids to climb the ladder to the throne by killing other kids. This explains why Camilla has no quarrel with killing. It also explains why she doesn't look like the other Nohrian siblings (they had different mothers) and why she is so loving towards the siblings that are still alive: she didn't want to kill her half-siblings. She wants to have been able to have relationships with those kids, but her horrible mother (whom Camilla confirmed was a slut and a horrible person) forced her to kill those kids before they killed her, so Camilla cherishes the relationships she can have because she wants those relationships to replace those she didn't get to have.

That alone tells you why she is not only loving toward her siblings, but toward everyone who is kind to her, and even toward some that are cold, but not enemies (like Beruka). It's a shame they cut this valuable info out in the English release, but it's all there in the original script, and there are hints in Niles' supports with her even in the English release.

I don't want to sound like I'm one of those waifu-creeps though. I'm not. I just know that Peri seems to be a universally hated character, but I really like her, and her lines are so great. She's mentally unstable and it's really funny. Her crying portrait is one of my favorite things in FE, along with Charlotte's rape face.

    Someone else likes Wolt?

I approve of this.  I always use him, and I actually have made him work, so it's not like it's impossible or anything.

Yeah, but when I got to the point where I had to make room for newer units, and I had two archers, I had to pick one, and Dorothy was just better by that point. But he holds a special place in my heart. For being one of the few Binding characters I really like.

  14. This... is my thread. This is my dream thread. Here I go, units that I use that either start terrible or are terrible:

Every recruit, Est archetype, and villager: I don't freaking care about efficiency, every unit with high growth rates, I'm using them! Donnel, Mozu, Ross, Amelia, Ewan, Nino, Sophia, Fiona, all of them 0_0 They are gods on earth if you raise them up, so why not? Especially in SS, where everything is already really easy, it makes the game almost funny how broken some of their units can be.

Meg: She's just so cute. I can't not use her. I can't do it. I have sworn to myself that once I play Radiant Dawn, I will use Meg. It's going to happen.

Dorothy: There's something endearing about her being so plain when everyone else is so "anime protagonist." Dorothy is better than Wolt, but that isn't saying much, and you get Wolt first, so there isn't much justification for using her instead, except that she's got such a homely and fairly cute design.

Wolt (attempted): I tried. I really did. When I realized he was related to Rebecca, I was determined to use him... but he was just so awful. Just terrible, every time he leveled up, it's like the RNG devil was laughing at me. But I really liked him for some reason, even though if it wasn't for this odd interest, I wouldn't like him at all?

Charlotte: Charlotte is insanely good once you train her, but her bases are so frustrating, she misses constantly and she doesn't double nearly as often, her base stats make it look like Arthur is better than her when he is entirely inferior. But I didn't know anything about her except I liked her design when I saw her in Conquest, and then her dialogue with Benny made me go, "must use Charlotte."

Benny: In Conquest, Effie is similar to Ike in that you could probably win that whole game with her and some minimal support. So there isn't a reason to use Benny instead. Except he's so sweet, and I could never abandon my cinnamon roll titan. He's just too nice to be thrown away.

Thany: I love pegasus knights, and in Binding Blade, my options are hot trash, hot trash, and hot trash -_- So I always put work into my first pegasus knight, because I will not have a game where I can't use a pegasus, even if she uses up tons of steroids. War in FE never lacks a pegasus. Blasphemy.

Niles: GOOD LORD. This was the most challenging thing. I thought there was no way to redeem him. It's like IS tried to deliberately create an amazing character and make them totally useless. His strength, his magic, they're horrible, his skill is mediocre, his defense and HP are horrendous, he may be one of the most awful non-Jagens ever to exist, and yet... I did it. I found out he could support with Arthur, and then the choir of angels sounded above me. As a Berserker, Niles was able to grow in strength, HP, and skill, and when I dropped him in Hero, he could actually survive. And perform... well

The "inferior girls": Just in general, when there's a male character and then a female in the same class that is considered their counterpart, I use the female. Wendy over Bors, Sophia over Raigh, Ilyana over Soren, Marisa over Joshua, Setsuna over Takumi, even Fir over Rutger. It's not like I'm picking them basing off of gender, it's just for some reason, IS picks the girls to have the lower strength or magic/HP and more resistance/luck (woah, resistance and luck), and I like using weak units, so yeah :\ There are some exceptions, like I use Lugh over Lilina, but mostly, I keep the girls.

Other honorable mentions: Setsuna, Hayato, Subaki, Neimi

...then every Lord who isn't Sigurd should have also never been made leader of their armies.

They honestly shouldn't have been. "Potential to be a great leader" and "inspirational speeches" should not be the only quality you look for in a leader, try experience.

So technically, Celica could totally fight Conrad to at least a draw. Because Celica's starting class is Priestess, the promotion of the female Mage.

Except Conrad is more trained than Celica and she has poor defenses. But I don't want to get technical about that.

There's no weapon triangle in Echoes though, so there's no weapon disadvantage. Also, it wouldn't have to be a one-on-one fight. In a battle between Celica, Mae, Boey, Genny, Saber, Valbar, Leon, and Kamui against Conrad, I know which side I would take.

...Fair enough :\ But really, it would start with Celica getting killed. Only Saber was in a position to immediately get in Conrad's way.

Alm being made leader of the Deliverance was just a PR move. Clive even said that he would still be handling everything else.

And i disagree about Alm not having much experience

But Clive didn't end up handling everything else. He was planning to, but Alm proved to be a popular leader, even if Clive had more experience. And experience isn't just training, it's actually being in real battles . So no, Alm doesn't have experience. Sigurd may be the only one that does, but Alm was picked to come because he was related to Mycen, not because he could fight well, though he was more ready than past lords have been (Eirika, I'm looking at you)

  16. 16 hours ago, Armagon said:

Except only a few people know that she's actually a princess. The only ones who knew were the people at Novis, Grieth (because one of his henchmen saw her birthmark.....somehow) and Jedah. Sure, the Duma Faithful is trying to kidnap Celica, but they aren't trying to use her as a hostage. Grieth wouldn't use her a hostage either.

That's factually incorrect. It is stated that Mae and Boey trained for the moment where they would have to protect Celica. And if Mae and Boey recived that training, i'm sure Genny did as well. Not to mention that Celica herself is stated to be a capable fighter. As for Saber, he's considered to be a strong mercenary. Because of this, saying that Celica's group had little idea of how to protect her is just wrong.

You're right, I shouldn't have said hostage. I should've said she's the only hope for the country and she isn't thinking enough about what would happen if she died. She's serving her purpose, yes, but I just find it a bit reckless.

Mae and Boey said in their supports that they had never actually used their magic to fight/kill people, Mae even sounded like they. They were scared and they were inexperienced. They're trained to protect her, yes, but she was lucky they were willing to "pull the trigger", per say, and they don't have any actual combat experience.

    16 hours ago, Armagon said:

I'm sure Saber could easily fight Conrad. I think you're making Conrad sound far stronger than he actually is. He's a capable fighter, no doubt, but Saber is pretty skilled himself. As for Conrad possibly striking later, it theoretically could be a part of his plan.

So she should just stay at home then? By that logic, every Lord except maybe Ike should just stay at home, because otherwise, they would be an important target.

Despite the fact that Celica's royal blood was a secret, she very well knew the risks of leaving. Why is it ok for every Lord in the series to take risks but not Celica?

I never said Mila was uninterested in working as a Goddess. I mean, she was *very* angry at Rigel breaking the Divine Accord. There's also the fact that Celica bears the Brand of Mila. While Celica herself may not know what it means, Mila most definitely does. Given Mila's nature, i'm sure she would at least listen to Celica.

Saber couldn't fight Conrad. In the FE games, especially in the beginning, the promoted units are almost always considered stronger than those who aren't, even when they are eventually overshadowed. Conrad could totally kill Saber, especially because of the weapon disadvantage Saber has naturally.

Honestly, I didn't want to get into an argument about why Lords go into battle. I just don't like Celica as a character. I don't agree with the decisions she makes, I don't like her dialogue, and when I said that she just should not go, I admit I was wrong, I just find it hard to believe that no one else wants to check out what's going on with Mila. It's my unpopular opinion, but I generally find Celica annoying, and I don't like her. So when she goes off with zero guards that have combat experience and a sort-of idea that she can fix whatever is going on, it just bothers me. That's also why Alm bothers me, especially because Clive just gives Alm control of The Deliverance because he's related to Mycen and he is relatable to the commoners, even though Alm doesn't have much experience either.

Marth has Jagen, Eirika has Seth, Eliwood and Roy have Marcus, and Celica has...Saber. Whom she knows almost nothing about. Alm has Clive and Lukas, much more guidance than a shady merc that Celica just picked up from a bar. I just can't find myself justifying her decisions. I don't like her :\

Actually, it makes a lot of sense. Sumia could tame the Pegasus, but imagine what trying to take care of it would have been like; especially in terms of the cost.

Likewise, it is very costly to maintain a war horse bred for the kinds of shock cavalry tactics employed in warfare. Not only that, but how would a commoner get such a steed? Sumia found a wild Pegasus by accident; a far cry from a purposely bred animal. If a commoner were to have cavalry, it would have to be a little hardy beast meant for scouting or skirmishes.

But an absolute zero in anything is nonsense. To say there isn't a commoner that knows how to train horses for war, or to say maybe on the continent somewhere there's a soldier that no longer serves the kingdom and trained a horse, or that the son of a royal knight was taught to raise horses for battle, possibly a noble with no ties to the government, something, anything. I just don't think there is no one in those countries that knows how to breed and raise horses for combat.
