  1. Cool to see the BN Legacy collection is finally happening!

    2 hours ago, vanguard333 said:

Officially, there were six games, but the last four games had multiple versions: Battle Network 3 was divided into Blue and White versions (but apparently only outside Japan), Battle Network 4's versions were Red Sun and Blue Moon, Battle Network 5 had Team Proto Man and Team Colonel, and Battle Network 6 had Cybeast Gregar and Cybeast Falzar. So, if you consider the different versions as separate games, it adds up to ten.

More specifically, Battle Network 3 started out as a standalone game, then a few months later a new version called Battle Network 3 BLACK was released. Both versions would become the basis for the localized White and Blue.

In addition to the six mainline entries, there's Network Transmission, Battle Chip Challenge, Wonderswan, 4.5 Real Operation, and Operation Shooting Star.

  2. I'm thinking of changing my selections, saving some of my current choices - like Tetra/Toon Zelda and Twilight Link/Wolf Link & Midna - for DLC. Basically, I'd like my list of starting additions to include the more "vanilla" fighters I'd want to add, while an upcoming DLC topic I plan on starting will have more of the flashy, gimmicky fighters.

  3. For fun, I thought of this little game where we each get to choose 16 new fighters to add in a theoretical Smash 6's base roster. Both first party and third party fighters are allowed.

    1. Waluigi
    2. Tetra/Toon Zelda
    3. Twilight Link/Wolf Link & Midna
    4. Dixie Kong
    5. Waddle Dee
    6. Krystal
    7. Octoling (Echo of Inkling)
    8. Alucard
    9. Proto Man
    10. Mega Man X
    11. Zero
    12. Chun-Li
    13. Dr. Eggman
    14. Crash Bandicoot
    15. Spyro the Dragon
    16. Shantae

Oh god, we're approaching the singularity where every vaguely anime-looking franchise gets Musuo'd, aren't we.

    Ace Attorney Warriors when?

Spoilers since I'm going a bit off-topic here.

    Spoiler

Funnily enough, a Capcom franchise getting the Musou treatment most likely won't happen, at least not from Koei Tecmo due to the two companies' bitter relationship. If anything, Capcom would develop such a title in-house since they already have their own Musou equivalent, Sengoku Basara.

Fact is, Musou encapsulates so much of what we see in Japanese action film, television, and video games that it's easy to adapt them. That said, Final Fantasy is long overdue for a Musou title (I mean c'mon, the series has a Warrior job and traditionally featured teams of heroes known as the Warriors of Light), and a Nintendo Warriors game (basically Super Smash Bros. meets Musou) would be extra-exciting due to putting a wide variety of video game characters in the Musou format.

Kirby Warriors would be a pleasant surprise that fits with the Kirby series' blend of cuteness and action. Between the various Kirby copy abilities, the growing roster of popular co-stars lead by King Dedede and Meta Knight, and even playable Helpers, I'm surprised one hasn't happened already.

A manga/anime series that seems prime for the Musou treatment is Dragon Ball. Unlike most Musou adaptations, most of the characters likely to be playable in a Dragon Ball Z Warriors would canonically be literally powerful enough to wipe out entire armies of mooks. Watch Frieza, Cell, or Majin Buu obliterate an army of Red Ribbon Soldiers or Saiyans and tell me that's not perfectly in keeping with their capabilities. If anything, the playable characters would have to be nerfed compared to their canon versions in order to explain how common grunts with guns could do any damage to them.

Another prime animanga would be My Hero Academia, easily one of the most popular modern manga/anime series. They would probably want to opt for an original story for this one, maybe armies of mutants or robots created by a new original villain.

But, this topic is for Xenoblade Chronicles 3, so I'll save most of the Musou speculation for the proper topic.

All the same, I imagine by the time Smash 6 is announced, there will be demand for Noah to join Smash 6 just like there was demand for Rex & Pyra in SSBU (which ultimately was fulfilled, sort of).

  5. It would take away from the happy ending we and Link deserve after going through all that trouble. It would feel like a slap to the face, a mockery of our effort and expectations, like the game was going "Haha, you saved the princess, but she's an old woman now. Sucks to be you!" If they'd sprung that on us, BotW would probably have become one of my least favorite Zeldas. I might even have outright hated it.

Besides, Zelda has divine blood in her. For all we know, that may well imbue her with some kind of longevity or even eternal youth. At any rate, it's clear she wasn't existing in a normal form during her imprisonment of Ganon.

  6. I would have hated if the game ended with Zelda being old. All that time and effort would feel wasted. No, I'm fine with Link and Zelda reuniting the way they did. I wish they could have reunited near the beginning of the game and traveled together. Ever since ALttP, they've had potential for a game where Link and Zelda travel together, yet the closest we've come to that is Spirit Tracks and there Zelda spends most of the game as an incorporeal ghost that can't interact with most characters. I want an honest-to-goodness Link and Zelda adventure.

On a related note, I also want an honest-to-goodness romance dynamic between Link and Zelda. The series has teased it for years, and we even got a couple instances of Zelda outright kissing Link (on the cheek at least), but we've never really gotten to see them as a proper couple. It's high time they took it to the next level. I want a Zelda game where Link and Zelda's couple dynamic permeates how they interact, like holding hands whenever Link helps Zelda up a cliff or when sidling along a wall, or watching them cuddle up together when resting under a tree. It doesn't have to be all lovey-dovey all the time, but I want to see affection and intimacy. Link/Zelda has long been my favorite video game couple, and I'm aching for a game that realizes their potential as such.

  7. (Dang it, accidentally posted the topic early. I'll be filling this out over time. Please be patient! I am of course open to suggestions.)

Since the original topic I made over a year ago died, I figured I'd give this concept a second swing. An eight-in-one fighter consisting of eight Robot Masters from the Mega Man series with Dr. Wily as a background character similar to Pokemon Trainer. Unlike Pokemon Trainer, Wily doesn't have the ability to just switch Robot Masters on the fly (mostly for balance's sake). Instead, the player chooses which Robot Master to play when first selecting DW&RB and whenever they respawn (during a short window of time). Thus, each Robot Master has a full-fledged moveset of their own with one exception: the Final Smash, Wily Machine, in which Wily deploys his Machine from Mega Man 2: The Power Fighters to attack with a beam cannon.

Each of the eight also has access to either Power Gear or Speed Gear via Shield + Special, referencing Mega Man 11's cycle of Robot Masters who all likewise had one of the two gears. Robot Masters with Power Gear active will hit harder and their Specials will be enhanced. Robot Masters with Speed Gear active will naturally move and attack faster.

    Guts Man

    Spoiler

Naturally, the most popular Robot Master leads the list. Guts Man's signature Special Weapon is Super Arm, and he's unique among the Robot Masters here for the fact he's the only one who doesn't use his with Neutral Special; rather, Super Arm affects how he picks up and throws objects and even opponent fighters. Guts Man simply lifts the object in question above him with one hand and can freely walk and jump around without losing any speed. Thus, his lifting abilities surpass those of even Donkey Kong.

Guts Man is quite heavy, and is vulnerable to explosions.

    Gear: Power

    Specials

    • N: Guts Block - Guts Man summons a block in front of him that he can pick up and throw. This ability comes from Mega Man Powered Up. However, here Guts can only conjure two blocks at once to prevent him from trapping opponents. When Power Gear is in effect, Guts Man summons a large boulder above him and throws it instantly.
    • S: Pile Driver - Guts Man dashes forward with his hand transformed into a spike. If Guts Man hits a solid wall or a Guts Block, he'll bounce off and cause an explosion.
    • U: Power Jump - A high jump performed with the aid of leg rockets. When Guts Man lands, the tremors he creates can trip nearby foes on the ground. This references a recurring ability among Robot Masters and enemies in the Mega Man series to jump high and crash down, as well as the recurring ability for heavy Robot Masters to stun Mega Man upon landing.
    • D: Concrete Shot - A weapon borrowed from Concrete Man, another construction Robot Master built by Dr. Light. When Power Gear is in effect, Guts Man fires three shots at once.

    Quick Man

    Spoiler

The fastest of the eight, and commonly the face of Mega Man 2.

    Gear: Speed

    Specials

    • N: Quick Boomerang - Quick Man's signature weapon. He shoots out three boomerangs that zero in on nearby targets.
    • S: Break Dash - A chargeable dash attack, borrowed from Pluto of Mega Man V. The longer the attack is charged, the farther Quick Man will dash.
    • U: Top Spin - Quick Man ascends by spinning like a top. This weapon is borrowed from Top Man of Mega Man 3.
    • D: Scorch Wheel - Quick Man conjures four fireballs which roll forward. This weapon is borrowed from Turbo Man of Mega Man 7.

    Shadow Man

    Spoiler

The swift and cunning ninja, and most popular RM of Mega Man 3.

Shadow Man is swift yet lightweight. He's not quite as fast as Quick Man

    Gear: Speed

    Specials

    • N: Shadow Blade - Shadow Man conjures a large shuriken and throws it.
    • S: Tengu Blade - Shadow Man throws a spinning green blade forward. When used while dashing, Shadow Man will slash rapidly with the blade instead. This weapon is borrowed from Tengu Man in Mega Man & Bass.
    • U: Triple Blade - Shadow Man leaps upward and throws three sword-like blades in a downwards fan formation. This is a nod to Blade Man's Special Weapon.
    • D: Shadow Copy - Shadow Man's body becomes distorted for a few moments. If struck during this time, he will turn out to be an illusory fake and the real Shadow Man will appear and strike. This is loosely based on Copy Vision from Mega Man & Bass as well as Gemini Man's ability to create holographic clones of himself.

    Ground Attacks

    • N: Yamato Blade - Shadow Man throws kunai shaped similar to Yamato Spear.
    • S tilt: Shadow Claw - A claw attack similar to Slash Claw.
    • U tilt: An overhead chop from front to back.

    Freeze Man

    Spoiler

Arguably the coolest-looking ice Robot Master.

Freeze Man retains traction on slippery surfaces and is himself immune to freezing. However, he is quite vulnerable to fire.

    Gear:

    Specials

    • N: Freeze Cracker - An ice crystal that breaks into smaller ice crystals on impact.
    • S: Ice Slasher - A piercing ice projectile borrowed from Ice Man, who Freeze Man admires greatly.
    • U: Tundra Storm - A vertical icy whirlwind, borrowed from Tundra Man.

    Splash Woman

    Spoiler

I would be remiss to leave out the Mega Man series' only female Robot Master boss as of this writing.

Splash Woman has built-in swimmer, meaning she won't drown in water (she's designed for water, after all). Her movement is a bit slow, but her attacks have excellent reach thanks to her trident.

    Gear:

    Specials

    • N: Laser Trident - A piercing laser shot fired from Splash Woman's trident.
    • S: Water Wave - A watery projectile that travels along the ground.
    • U: Bubble Rise - Splash Woman conjures a bubble beneath her that lifts her upward. This is based on a stage gimmick that first showed up in Wave Man's stage and later returned in her own.
    • D: Water Shield - An orbital shield of eight water bubbles, borrowed from Pump Man.

It is the year of our Lord (Arceus) 2022, we are approaching the ninth generation of Pokemon, a multi-billion-dollar worldwide franchise... and there's still no voice acting. Not even the vaguest grunts that Zelda's offered for nigh-on twenty years now. It's the biggest, most obvious thing they could be doing to improve their oft-derided presentation aspect, and Game Freak refuses. Not that I was expecting any better...

What's really egregious about this is that Pokemon Masters EX, a smart phone gacha game, has voice acting. If Nintendo can afford VAs for that, you'd think they could put out here.

  10. I'm liking the Scarlet Professor more, but Violet's turbo jet dragon mascot is arguably the cooler of the two. I'm guessing both mascots will be part Dragon, with Scarlet's being either Fire/Dragon or Fighting/Dragon and Violet's obviously being Electric/Dragon. That's...actually quite close to Reshiram and Zekrom. Are they reusing their type combos for this game?

    5 hours ago, vanguard333 said:

Interesting that gen 8 Pokémon such as the snapping turtle and the coal Pokémon are returning for this game, though every time I see the coal Pokémon fully evlolved, I still think it should've evolved into a steam locomotive or something like that; its first form has a wheel, its second form is a mine cart, and yet its final form is a generic rock ogre; what?

Not gonna lie, a Rock/Steel Train Pokemon sounds ace.

  11. Hyrule Wars

A mashup of The Legend of Zelda and Fire Emblem. The setting and characters are Zelda, while the core gameplay and class system is pulled from Fire Emblem.

Reason why I doubt this will happen is the same reason I doubt Paper Zelda will happen: the thought of two series actually sharing ideas like that is inconceivable to Nintendo. Though we did get both Hyrule Warriors and Fire Emblem Warriors, so who knows. But outside of Smash, Nintendo rarely does crossovers between their own IPs.
