Sauna adds bonuses to lecturing by a pretty significant amount for the whole month, so I wouldn't say it's useless. Albeit you can only give that bonus to one person per month, but still.

if it's anything like cooking for temporary stat buff, you should be able to invite more than 1 person by doing multiple exploring sessions.

  2. Considering that the logo for the DLC is a representation of Sirius (wolf eating the moon) from which Sothis name is based on, it's likely that the Abyss civilisation have at least a connection to her. It's possible they're not even Nabatean, considering not even the church seems to be aware of its existance.

It also makes me wonder about the leaked 4 DLC characters : they're seems to be plot-relevant enough that I can't imagine the game just pretending that they've always been in the monastery when there's been no mention of their existance beforehand. Maybe they've fallen to the Abyss, and recently got back up?

  3. I always thought the whole point of Shambala was to be as unfitting as humanly possible to hammer the fact that TWSITD can never truly belong in the current world : regardless if they somehow manage to exterminate everything remotely related to the church or decide to make peace with it, they will never be able to go back to the glory days of Agartha, and are doomed to live in a potentially eternal lie (as it's implied they can revive themselve with the crest stones implanted in their bodies, but their true self are essentially rotten to the core).

  4. Jeritza being free DLC is very telling that the death knight wasn't meant to be merely a one-dimensional black knight copycat. I also have hope that Anna somehow have connection to the 10 elites to get more development here, but I'm probably reaching too far.

As for Sothis talking about the 2 sides of time, I assumed she was being literal, as she is is known as "the beginning" while byleth is her end, in a sense.

The things that do make me think they had to scrap plot elements are the endings of SS and CF.

    Spoiler

In CF, Rhea's death somehow make Byleth's crest disappear.

In SS, Rhea abruptly undergo some kind of degeneration and go mad.

There's absolutely nothing remotely hinting at either occurrences in the whole game.

  5. Anti-monster combat arts tend to perform a bit better, even without the effective damage, than most basic combat arts, such as wrath strike or smash. Their only restriction is that not everyone can learn them. Plus, having a guaranteed option to instantly destroy shield without using up a gambit is always nice.

As low tier,  however, definitely exhaustive strike : an art that destroy your weapon in exchange for boosted damaged based on remaining durability. I seriously don't know how to make good use of this... even if I sacrifice a recently forged steel axe, the damage doesn't really justify all the trouble to set it up.

That's what I thought (it's the opposite in the other routes). Maybe you skipped whatever flags those reinforcements to start appearing?

I did see someone accidently skipping an event that despawn TWSITD members after killing Myson by focusing on the left side, then, retreat back to the start to take care of the right, while baiting enemies from the center & throne rooms without stepping foot in them.

However, the Bolting/meteor reinforcements are triggered after Edelgard does her monologue and switch her weapons (after you enter the throne room). So that seems a lot harder to skip.

Maybe I just somehow forgot about it, but that's hard to believe...

Wait, can you stop reinforcements by parking someone on the stairs of the top left and right rooms? I could have sworn that didn't work the first time I played BL...

You can do that for the central staircase (the game can even hint at it with dialogues), but not for the 2 north corners rooms. Like I've said, I'm not sure how I managed to prevent the latters.

The only map with ambush reinforcements that I found particularly dumb was BL endgame, because the ambush spawns have siege tomes, and when you trigger them your entire army is probably in range.

It's possible to prevent those ambush from triggering, but I'm not sure of the exact condition : I basically split my team in half to cover both side, while ignoring the center room for the most part. Upon entering the throne room, the only reinforcements I had to deal with were from the center room (which didn't have any meteor or bolting).

Yeah, I definitely agree with this. But...

Sadly I don't think the nukes really make much sense. The slitherers have so. damn. many. good opportunities to use them and they literally never accomplish anything of note with them. No named character is ever killed by them, on any route.

We see Rhea leave Garreg Mach (for the battle of eagle and lion, presumably every year, if nothing else, but she obviously does it other times as in Catherine/Ashe's paralogue), why not nuke her then if she's their greatest foe?

In CF, why not nuke Fhirdiad as soon as Rhea/Seteth/etc. hole up there?

In AM/VW/SS, why not nuke Byleth (and Dimitri, Claude, etc.) when they're at Myrddin, or Dirdrieu, or various other places? Or heck, Ailell, where we know a spy reports their position weeks in advance? If the slitherers are as well-placed as the game otherwise implies, it's hard to believe that Count Rowe would know without them also knowing.

And as mentioned, they seemingly have no way to back up their threat to Edelgard in the end of CF.

The nukes in general just don't feel very well thought-out by the writers.

     - In chapter 4, it's revealed they intended to steal the remains of Seiros and didn't expect to find a sword instead : in other words, they didn't know that Seiros was still alive, as well that Rhea = Seiros until she revealed her dragon form. That's why they had no plan to nuke anything until post-timeskip.

     - Firing off a nuke expose their location, so it's a major risk for them. So it wouldn't be worth it, as long there's a chance that Seiros will avoid the attack (and she would, as she doesn't care that much about the capital to protect them at this point).

     - Remember that the empire army was winning the wars. So they didn't feel the need to use the nukes (and again risk their location to be exposed) until the tide started to get reversed. And in the AM route, Arundel/Thales didn't expect Cornelia and her robots to be defeated, and then didn't expect the BL army to ambush them while he was trying to take down the Alliance (who were greatly weakened). The surprise effect is what stopped them from using the nukes.

     - By the end of any route, the entirety of Fodlan is unified. At this point, their nukes wouldn't have made a difference, as no matter how powerfull they are, they're still lacking in ressource.

Well, based on what was datamined, Harrier, Adventurer, and Malig Knight were datamined. Which fills the caster abled fliers we were missing, and the missing Master level rogue class we were missing.

Wait, what datamine? The only one I'm aware of is that 4chan post about the wave 4 DLC units being students, and it's very shaky at best...

"Drop of a hat"? The town was destroyed because the Slitherers dropped a nuke on it as a way to tell her and Hubert not to screw with them. Killing Cornelia was an error; the entire point of that chapter is to display how she's not ready to directly confront Thales, and she pays for it by having to lie to her friends again and cover up what Thales has done for him.

I don't know where people get this impression that Edelgard can just do what she wants, because she can't. Right now her entire regime is predicated on Thales's support - she wouldn't have even been able to depose Aegir if he wasn't in favor of it. It's only after the war, when she has developed her own resources and allies independent of the Slitherers, that she can break away from him.

On the japanese version, Cornelia express surprise that Edelgard would go against them, saying something like "so in the end, we were the one being manipulated all along".

With that in mind, Thales nuking the city feels more like a desperate attempt at scaring her, but fail at it. Edelgard's army are the one in power in Crimson Flower, not TWSITD.

That would also explain why the TWSITD's destruction get off-screened : they never stood a chance once she learned to trust other peoples.

  12. For Anna, I can easily imagine her focusing on bow + gauntlet just because those have currently the least amount of relics. And I'm expecting her to have the Ernest crest.

As for Jeritza, I believe he will actually have a weakness in all weapons and strength or hidden talent in faith. Why?

    Spoiler

Based on Mercedes ' paralogue, I have a theory that Emile was just as kind as Mercedes and disliked killing, since he also have a crest of Lamine (possibly major). Peoples sharing the same crest tend to share similar affinity, though it's never confirmed whether it's coincidental or not.

However, the house Bartel's machination to create the strongest being slowly corrupted him, until he finally snapped soon after Mercedes got kicked out. The rest is history.

Following on that, it's possible he was chosen as the heir specifically because of his compatibility with the Rafail Gem : remember how the forums theorized that maddening DK would have the relic equipped, making him unstoppable? That's exactly what the house Bartel wanted!

Assuming he will only be available in CF's post-timeskip, I expect he will follow the Gotoh archetype : high base stats, and the same skills ranks he have as an enemy Death Knight, but abysmal growth (except in magic and resistance, for the sake of irony).

  13. In general, only intermediate classes are worth going out of your way for, if you only want to increase an unit's base stats. The requirements for advanced classes and beyond is too much to be worth the extra investement, and their bases aren't high enough to compensate.

That being said, I think peoples underestimate the temporary class-change stats far too much : +10 def on Forteress Knight is huge, and more than make up for the speed debuff (unlike the mounted classes), even if you have no interest in its growth.

  14. About the very first cutscene, upon starting a new game :

    Spoiler

If you assume that everything in it is Sothis's memories right before she awaken, then everything makes sense!

     - her heart is in Nemesis sword, but it's then taken off by Seiros (as revealed in chapter 4), which is why that scene of the battle abruptly end;

     - the weird futuristic-looking pictures afterwards are her memories of her distant pasts, during the Agarthan era;

     - her first meeting with Byleth is when she's starting to awake/resurrect finally within him/her, which is why she has no memories between the battle and now.

Cyril gets majorly screwed because he will never promote out of commoner and thus doesn't get better growths like everyone else. Catherine gets the incredibly good enemy swordmaster growths so she remains a really good unit, but she's still better off recruited early. Hilda will have excellent strength(enemy Brigand makes her growth 70%) and pretty much average everything else. For her in particular, starting with E authority halfway through the game is really bad, considering she has a weakness. That being said, she's still useable since she has a very easy time becoming a Wyvern Rider. But she's still considerably worse imo.

About Seteth, he has better base ranks to compensate for his late join time, one of his focuses is authority so he joins with a good level in that, and Wyvern Rider autolevels his Axe and Flying rank to B and C respectively, as those are the requirements to enter the class. Basically he was clearly designed to work as a late recruit. His speed is mediocre, but he gets a brave combat art so it doesn't really matter.

That's rather worrying for Cyril : he's an auto-recruit for the church route and only join at the end of the 1st part of the game. It would be a very annoying oversight from the dev if he's litteraly impossible to use here, outside of normal mode.

  16. 14 minutes ago, Cysx said:

There's no real cap, but unrecruited students only gain so much Wexp per month(48 on maddening). For Caspar, if you recruit him on month 12  he'll have gotten 48*12 = 576 Wexp, which puts him at C+ Axes with 4 left to reach B, and C+ Brawl with 64 left to reach B. On lower difficulties, he should have reached B on both.

Typically the best time to recruit if you want the stat bonuses but not to lose too much Wexp, is on chapter 5. It puts the character at level 11 promoted(and the game acts like they've been in their new class from level 1, hence why they'll get boosts). In general, beyond low weapon ranks(and E authority), the worst part of recruiting late is missing out on blow skills to some extent, and very few characters actually want to pay that price.

So in other word, Cyril, Catherine and Hilda get pretty much screwed over in maddening church route (even without counting the class abilities), or do they get the same perk as Seteth?

Yeah, there's been a bunch. Do I still have that lying around...(I didn't)

    XCzKMGd.jpg

Ashe gains 5 levels instead on GD and Church, and I still haven't verified Lorenz on BL/Church, but from what I recall it was around the same.
Also I've been told that on normal mode the level of students is pushed to at least 20 no matter what.

Doesn't Dedue have another factor in his final level upon joining back the team post-timeskip? I remember him appearing as level 28, and I'm certain none of my units were higher levels than the enemies pre-timeskip.
