Its not a sob story. Its me not understanding. But thats immaterial: It said in the inserting maps portion that I should know how to use offsets and pointers, "Knowing the offset of some free space in the ROM," "Basic hex editing knowledge" and "Arithmetic in hexadecimal." Now, I'm not sure if its me being willfully ignorant, or me just being stupid, but I don't understand these. I get caught up in the technical terms and the "You should know how to..." parts, and THATS what I'm not really getting. What do all these things mean? Feel free to be harsh. :P

Epsilon's Question List: (He's sorry if these need to be pt somewhere else, or if they were already answered.) How does one use FEditor in conjugation with Nightmare to hack fire emblem?How do I actually get MY custom faces into the game? And make events and stuff like that? How does one insert maps and stuff to actually make a new fire emblem hack, and not just with new characters? How does one change the text? How do you assemble it all together when your finished? I have FEditor Adv, the .nmm files for Fe7 & 8, and Nightmare (NOT 2.0). I've read the ultimate guide, but I'm still stuck. What are some short little things I could do to practice, and how would I start? I'm actually really interested in this stuff, it looks like fun! And I don't really care about the work load. Hit me, please! And don't jst tell me to read a guide, please... I can't really understand it all that well. Call it an information overload...

sonofabitch.... If someone can make a program like Nightmare, or FEditor... Can't they figure out how to remove the 16 limit?
But whats a good exercise to start out?

They're entirely different programs, you just use them when you need to. The 16 color limit comes from the game limit itself. 16 is the amount of colors in one palette in GBA games, the people who initially programed the GBA FE's decided that 16 colors was enough for the character mugs. So we have to deal with it.

So how would you use both? And is that where the 16 color limit comes in? And what's the deal with the color limit, anyhow?

FEditor is the program you use to insert battle animations, character mugs, and text.
Nightmare is basically just a hex editor, only it puts it in terms that a person can understand easily, and changes hex values in certain areas.

Hold up: What's FEEditor? I have Fe7-8nmms, AND the regular version of nightmare (not 2.0) and the ultimate tutorial, but whats FEEditor? Can I do stuff on there that I can't in Nightmare?

Start playing around with different nightmare modules and FEditor Adv, once you have a sensible grasp on them, try to understand event hacking, and start up your rom hack.

Astra, I have a question for you. Question being this:
Theres a LOT of words in the "Ultimate Tutorial" romhack guide. I know that inserted mugs have to have 16 colors or less, but thats it. How does one get started with the hacking thing? What sort of stuff do you practice with, first?

Do you need any more characters/Are you taking submissions? Cause this looks pretty sweet, and I don't think my mugs are to bad.
