  1. hmm that does sound like a pain. on the other hand if I was to allow use of a short bow/fire, a well-leveled Lute with fire could probably take out Tirado
  2. derp. good point XD would anyone be interested in a recording of a Slim weapon run? I personally like the idea
  3. Not sure if anyone else wonders about these things, but I was contemplating different ways to do a playthrough of SS and was wondering if anyone has ever done any of these because they seem like interesting challenges if done on hardmode or something. 1)20/0: No promotions, solely level 20 tier 2 (tier 2 if considering pupil/journey/rec were tier 1) characters No pre-promotes This isn't really too bad imo. Level 20 Myrrh is good, and with stat boosters Ephriam/Eirika could probably do good damage with their Sacred twin weapons. Also, there's always knoll with luna :D 2)NCGT Only these characters (plus eirika b/c of necessity) promotions are only allowed at level 10 (if possible) Neimi = sniper Colm = assassin w/1 lockpick garcia = warrior (no speed boosts allowed) Trainees = Super trainee promotes I picked these 6 (7 including Eirika) because they seem to be not too respected and/or agreed as generally crappy. Hero!Garcia is generally better b/c of the speed boost and sword, Assassin colm isn't as good as rogue b/c of lack of skill points, why the heck would someone make Neimi a sniper if not for sure shot in Link arena, and in US Sacred stones, the trainees utterly suck (partially true in the JP version). 3)No money, everything used is dropped/traded from other units (This could be used in conjunction with another challenge set on oneself, maybe something like only using a few units or something, because this isn't all that challenging unless you grind valni so much your weapons break) 4)Slim Slim weapons only (lances and swords) No magic No bows No axes *This forces a necessity for level 20/20 General gilliam with a slim lance to kill formitis to end the game, so that could generate some negativity... If anyone had any other interesting ideas, feel free to share! ^^
  4. In theory then, no mounted units period and no natural staff class (cleric, troubador, priest) would be ideal. Also, I don't usually ever end up using warp staves and rescues whenever I play. In addition, my playstyle doesn't exactly require rescuing, and warping with crappy characters might not be the best idea. As such, i'm happy with heal staves and physic **Just realized, has anyone looked into promo gains for a knight -> gk? and also, according to the averages posted for Giliam, he seems to end up with all around worse stats as a GK than Gen.... Starting to think GK is the worse idea. If I was gonna screw myself over, I wouldn't take the +2 con bonus turning from knight -> Gen and all around better end stats for the +1 move. I might just think wierdly though and am missing something
  5. Promoting to super in Jap does not give a con bonus, but the trainees are uber stat-wise disregarding Con. I dunno if I'd really say that CON gain makes or breaks the character, but you may be right considering Amelia can't even hold an iron lance without penalty, ross can't hold an iron axe without penalty, and ewan can't even think about using any other magic than fire. All in all, thinking solely that CON makes or breaks a unit, the super trainees actually suck, and considering in story mode I can only get 1 body ring to up con for the guys, it makes for tough decisions. I haven't even recorded the first episode cause I wanna get everything straight here. Final verdict: Super trainees here we come... =D PS: I wonder if this could be considered an attempt at making myself actually rage at the game XP I actually think that less units might be a good challenge for stuff like the Phantom ship in ephriam's route, or Hamill Canyon in Eirika's, and then in end game, chapter 20 will be a pain in the rear.
  6. The max stat caps for super trainees in Jap Fe8 were actually massive if you look in the localization ->gameplay section. Growths weren't too different if I remember too, but I meant more max stat caps. Considering the fact I doubt i'd get them to max stat naturally though doing a run this way, i guess I should make them super trainees for kicks and "masochism". Personally, I enjoy them.
  7. Wow, never knew that. I mean i knew you got double xp from silencer kills, but valks I had no idea about. In that case i might pick mage knight for l'arachel ALSO!! i didn't mention something kinda vital... I play fe8 on my comp as Seima no Kouseki, not SS, so in regards to the super trainees, I really should stay away from them. Growths aren't too big of a difference, but I feel i should mention this for the argument on super trainees...
  8. I guess an editted list is in order now. Franz - Left out (I'm not using him) Gilliam -General Ross - Fighter -> Warrior Garcia -> Warrior Vanessa -> Falco Moulder -> Sage (i guess, I don't really see how uber elfire is, and slayer is more helpful endgame) Lute -> left out (because she's helpful either way imo) Artur -> Sage Joshua -> Assassin (most (m) myrmidons -> swordmasters) ok Natasha ->tempted to leave out, because valk = rescue and movement, while bishop is slayer (which I already shared my thoughts on for moulder) Colm -> Rogue (Personal preference is assassin cause lethality :3) "Assassin is worse because Colm has low skill." yeah, but I also usually give Colm an A support with Neimi for the 7.5 % crit bonus Neimi -> Sniper is agreeably worst decision Forde -> Great Knight 'K Kyle -> Paladin 'K Tana -> Falcon knight (statistically she's worse this way) Eh, either way Amelia ->General? Gerik -> Left out Marisa -> Left out Ewan ->summoner (I've never actually made him one, so this would be fun) L'Arachel -> Mage Knight "Anima vs Exp Boost." Exp boost?? Cormag -> Wyvern Lord Knoll -> summoner new thoughts? this would probably be what I go with.
  9. How is lute better as a mage knight when her magic is more likely to max (making it 30 as a sage and 25 as a mage knight)? Also according to the Serene's forest stats she'd end up with worse growths as a mage knight. not to mention it's anima/staff for Mage knight and anima/light/staff as sage. If there's better con bonus from becoming a mage knight, I guess, but to me it seems mage knight's the worst option.
  10. Sheesh I didn't actually expect fast answers o.o Regards to Hawk: -I guess hard's the way to go indeed, especially without valni to make everything easier - More or less I'm hoping for a challenge, I do believe that Fe8 is too easy >_< (I'd be more than willing to go for low amount of units, but some assistance on how to do that would be appreciated) -I actually feel inclined to disagree with you on super pupil/recruit. In my opinion they turn out the best for me, but I agree on super journeyman sucking bad -I always thought Garcia was meant as a Warrior honestly, though yeah, he does need that speed... -(derp 1) oops, not paying attention to class change choices, I always make her a bishop anyway -(derp2) sorry I didn't actually fact check myself on when the game came out, I just knew I had been playing for a long time - I can try LTC, but i've never even considered it when playing, i've always kinda just killed everything in sight and I don't exactly know the speedy tricks to zip around the maps L95: I made this list on the fly, kinda wasn't thinking about it :/ you're right, ranger>>>>Sniper Neimi I guess I have to think harder on this. thanks and sorry >-< If I was to do the playthrough like I intended, I doubt anyone would really reach level 20, not even Seth. but it's an interesting idea.
  11. So basically, I've played through FE8 around 10 times through both the entire time I've had it (since it came out back in 2005) and on my computer and I have to say, even though I haven't gotten to the crazy point of having all units (even the after game ones) level 20 with max stats (including con) yet, I can't help but get bored of the same old same old path I take. SOOOOOO, I've decided to do a "Worst promotion choice" playthrough that I will put up on youtube. It goes something like this: -Units are promoted according to worst possible stat outcome so level 10 promotions are ideal, and then I choose something crappy like a hero ross (whose stats are basically the worst possible on average when a Hero) -No arena abuse -FE7 style with no tower of Valni, no skirmishes, etc -Normal mode for balance In theory, if I was to try to stick with level 10 promotions, I would be forced to use pre-promotes like Seth, Dozla, Rennac etc. if I didn't have the promo item. In Eirika's/ephriam's case, I cannot exactly help them going above 10 because either way if I was to pick one route or another, they'd just become level 15 when I meet up with them on Chapter 15 Also, just so I get everyone's "agree" on the worst possible outcomes, I have a list made up of what the characters will change into based off of the Serene's forest average stats page for FE8 right here but I've also made notes in spots that cater to some of my own stigma of what is the worse class to change someone into. Franz - Great Knight Gilliam - Great Knight (most people turn their knights into Generals) Ross - Fighter -> Hero Garcia -> Hero Vanessa -> Wyvern Knight Moulder -> Sage Lute -> Mage knight Artur -> Sage Joshua -> Assassin (most (m) myrmidons -> swordmasters) Natasha -> Valkyrie Colm -> Rogue (Personal preference is assassin cause lethality :3) Neimi -> Ranger Forde -> Great Knight Kyle -> Paladin Tana -> Falcon knight (statistically she's worse this way) Amelia ->Cava -> Paladin Gerik -> Ranger Marisa -> Swordmaster Ewan -> Mage knight L'Arachel -> Mage Knight Cormag -> Wyvern Knight Knoll -> Druid Well, that's about it. Hope to hear some feedback on these preferences ;D PS: if you watch the actual episodes, hope you enjoy!
  12. So surprisingly, I haven't seen many people noticing this about the "Devourer of Time" FE7 Romhack. I've been playing it through on hardmode, and, Just as I would prefer a romhack to do in Fire Emblem, it made attempts to screw me over throughout my many arena abusing endeavors. This and another short Devourer of Time video I put up are just kinda funny moments that I've been a part of. Hope you enjoy! and beware, 100+ Hp warriors will end you. PS: and Nini's Grace is ungodly OP http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e0dbJIif4u0&feature=youtu.be
