  1. Just off the top of my head on the topic about the eyes at least, it might just lead to some oddness in dialogue.

    b4Ao8iW.pngxDsinaK.png

That second one is "You did not look like you particularly had eyes for battle either."

I think Lenh makes a good point too, but I don't really have a problem with the armour, honestly. The fur-lining is a bit odd to me, but it can still work fine within the context of the character.

  2. attachicon.gifanother one.png Here is a quick edit. If you like the way it's going I'll continue to work on it.

Yeah, like Pixelman said his face is unaligned.

The shading would probably need some work too.

    Also, why is he white?

    453d8a812c5e2bdb12026777fecd1446.png

    I'm sorry I don't know anyone's names but...

Purple guy with the requested edits, Manly guy with less cheek and nose, green guy with a new face.

    Great.

I have been wondering about this though.

Should I put up names and maybe character relations somewhere, just so that people know more about the characters that they're working on or something?

Most of them are pretty obvious I guess, but then some of them will be small spoilers.

    Meet everybody's new favourite character.

    vyw96v.png

    Who is this?

I also have to wonder how he can see anything, though.

He's definitely one of the better candidates for your School of Motherfucking Hair, but I don't know.

It definitely is something else though, like wow.

Fun Fact: The original version of this guy was actually my first splice ever.

That probably means that I have some major attachment issues to how he looks though, so I think I'll let others weigh in on this a bit more.

  3. Oh~

    kzDIx.pngkzG9x.png

Some minor work on the hair and the orange color, and an eye-shift.

    kzFxe.png

Felt like he was a tad cross-eyed and shifted the iris over, also redid the blink.

Great. The hair on both of them is looking a lot better shaded.

    21l8h1h.png

This happy little fucker went to the Nickt School of Motherfucking Hair.

    And some talkies.

    2e6a4x2.png

    Super Saiyan Jace?

I must find a use for this, somehow.

    And great, mouth frames.

  4. Sorry for the short absence, everyone. Stuff came up, as it does, but it's all good now.

    725ef9c2025854cbc6798b12a47feecc.png

Combined both of our efforts, plus tried this other guy's face.

Yeah I think the combination of the two faces on Kenrick is the best one to go with, probably.

As for Marco, everything looks fine except maybe his face looking kind of gaunt in the cheeks, due the shading on the right, I'd say.

I'm done with Jace; if anyone wants to do anything with him, feel free. I tried to fix the hair a little but when I tried to do too much with it it progressively began looking worse, so I came to a compromise.

    NSKVYtf.png

Re:Legato, since his design is asymmetrical (one shoulder pad spiked), may I suggest having another version where the opposite shoulder pad is spiked for when he's loaded on the other side of the screen, so the same pad is consistently spiked? It would be similar to how both of Nergal's forms have a flipped mug so his turban/Nergal-eye never switch sides on his face.

Yeah, this is fine for me. The hair troubles were probably due to how I did it in the first place, so you could have just gone for a newer style if you'd wanted to, but oh well.

Also, I'd always thought this before, and now it looks even more the case, but Jace looks a lot like a standard JRPG protagonist.

    And on the brooch:

Yeah, I'd probably just leave it out.

    EDIT: Updated the main post

  5. IfSbb0M.png

Hope you don't mind edits, Yasako. His jaw felt a bit weird to me.

Yeah, I think this jawline is better.

I think what was said earlier about the more villainous smile still needs to be addressed though. He just seems kind of "normal-happy" here, imo.

Other than that, it's looking good to me.

And hey he's got 11 Con in-game, so maybe he does do some heavy lifting here and there.

Spikes on the right have been removed, and smugness is up about 68%

    6n9abql.png

Yeah, this looks better to me.

Am I gonna need custom mouth frames now though, or would this work with his original, if you know?

  6. Is there a changelog for this somewhere? I didn't immediately see one but if you aren't keeping one/posting it you totally should as I'm probably not alone in being really into reading those for some reason.

I'm about to try this, and it looks fantastic! I'm just waiting for you to remove that little "might want to hold off a bit" edit under the download link.

Some people don't get so excited about romhacks, but to me any complete romhack is just as hype as a brand-new game in the series popping out of nowhere. Passion matters more than what's canon, I think. Sure sometimes romhacks might have worst game design (although not usually because anyone with the patience to finish one must be a long-time fan) but its not like everyone likes every official release anyways. The difference is that we have to spend money on those! But hey, it looks like you put a lot of work and love into this, and I like to think that sort of thing always shines through in the result.

So yeah, rant notwithstanding, I'm excited.

There's a small list of changes from when I first posted this up to the most recent patch, but it's not really much. I haven't changed that much between the patches outside of some balancing stuff.

The note about holding off was actually something I probably should have removed a while ago, that's my bad. I don't know whether I should leave it there or not now though, because once again I am working on touching some stuff up.

    Anyway, in other news:

    a76zlAH.png

    RIP Val's red horse 2012-2015.

  7. 5361_shel.png

I might need to make his shoulders broader and his cloak looks a little silly, but I'm lazy. '3'

Also I think he's still a tad too small, anyone mind checking if he looks dumb in-game?

@Ash discussion: He could stand not to look 14 years old.

Yeah, I'd say he is looking a bit on the small side, both in terms width and height. He's technically the same height as the original one, but here he's standing up straight as opposed to a little hunched over.

Here's Legato. Aside from the armor I made the eyes about 36% more villainous.

    QmpSnNz.png

If anyone wants to clean up the chest a bit or make other changes they're welcome to do so.

This is great. I'm not too keen on the armour spikes though, personally. The ones on the right (his left) look kinda strange to me. I think he'd be fine without them, maybe.

  8. Yeah, I try to see what people think of my hack in other areas, so I've seen a few reddit posts and stuff here and there.

There aren't any promotion items before Ash's mode. I think the earliest Elysian Whip is chapter 13.

Chapter 5 can probably be done faster if you just forget about Nella, I guess. She'll come back in Ash's mode at a promotable level that way with some good non-RNG dependent stats.

I'm gonna put chapter 19 in 16 turns down to good RNG, most likely, but I don't really remember at this point.

And I did take on yours (and someone else's, I think) advice about adding another shop into the game. On the current patch there's now one on chapter 21, with some pretty good stuff in there.

  9. Hey Sacred Blaze, what are the turn rankings for Requiem? You said in the original post that you had them figured out but I can't find them anywhere. I have a decent LTC Run on MarkyJoe1990's forum, maybe you'd wanna check it out: http://markyjoe1990.elementfx.com/mybb/showthread.php?tid=659

I do make some pretty critical complaints about your map design and unit balance though, but don't take any of that the wrong way. It was a fun hack to LTC. I enjoyed playing through it. If I remember correctly, I beat the game in 269 turns. That's probably pretty good considering the... largeness... of several of your maps.

EDIT: Here are my turn counts

    Prologue - 20 turns

    Chapter 1 - 13 turns

    Chapter 2 - 2 turns

    Chapter 3 - 6 turns

    Chapter 4 - 2 turns

    Chapter 5 - 8 turns

    Chapter 6 - 15 turns

    Chapter 7 - 9 turns

    Chapter 8 - 8 turns

    Chapter 9 - 13 turns

    Chapter 10 - 18 turns

    Chapter 11 - 10 turns

    Chapter 12 - 9 turns

    Chapter 13 - 12 turns

    Chapter 14 - 8 turns

    Chapter 15 - 13 turns

    Chapter 16 - 10 turns

    Chapter 17 - 10 turns

    Chapter 18 - 5 turns

    Chapter 19 - 17 turns

    Chapter 19x - 8 turns

    Chapter 20 - 8 turns

    Chapter 21 - 7 turns

    Chapter 22 - 15 turns

    Chapter 23 - 16 turns

    Final Chapter - 7 turns

    TOTAL = 269 TURNS

Yeah, I've seen your LP. You've beaten a good amount of the five star rankings by quite a bit actually. Like I said, I don't really do LTC stuff, so some of these will just be me doing the stages as quickly as possible without going straight for the bosses.

And yeah, I know not to take criticism too hard. Before people even said it, I knew that some things would probably be called out as issues.

I'll probably leave the map and unit balance how it is for now though, just because editing it at this stage would be a lot of work at this point. Glad you had some fun though.

I'll definitely take the stuff you and others have said into consideration if I ever do something like this again though.

As for what the rankings are, I just meant that I have written them into nightmare.

    Prologue: 13 turns

    Chapter 1: 16 turns

    Chapter 2: 12 turns (Lol)

    Chapter 3: 8 turns

Chapter 4: 14 turns (Once again, I took the long way.)

    Chapter 5: 14 turns

    Chapter 6: 28 turns

    Chapter 7: 9 turns

    Chapter 8: 12 turns

    Chapter 9: 15 turns

    Chapter 10: 16 turns

    Chapter 11: 16 turns

    Chapter 12: 8 turns

    Chapter 13: 12 turns

    Chapter 14: 8 turns

    Chapter 15: 13 turns

    Chapter 16: 13 turns

    Chapter 17: 13 turns

Chapter 18: 25 turns (God damn.)

    Chapter 19: 16 turns

    Chapter 19x: 13 turns

    Chapter 20: 10 turns

    Chapter 21: 13 turns

    Chapter 22: 20 turns

    Chapter 23: 19 turns

    Final: 8 turns

    TOTAL: 364 for me

So... yeah, those defeat boss ones clearly put us miles apart. Chapter 6 too.

  10. Thank you for the compliments!

    Spun off of Smirks edit

I think that maybe his face seems a little bit cramped? Might just be me trying to compare it too much to the one original face though, I don't know.

Seems fine otherwise with the extra detail in the hair and headband.

I plan to revamp Legato's armor. Maybe dial the "villainy" up a few dozen notches.

If there's a particular armor design you're fond of PM it to me, or I can just do whatever if you'd prefer.

I don't really have any ideas myself, so yeah, just do whatever if you're giving it a go.

It doesn't need to be anything too out there though.

Legato is in good hands, so I tried my hand at Jace. I strayed a little farther than I'd like from the original eyes, but I think the personality is intact.

    IAy0Sym.png

I didn't touch the hair because I don't have time at the moment, but if you like where I'm going with it I'll pick up tomorrow.

Yeah, this is fine. His eyes weren't good before, imo, so this is much better. I'll be interested to see what more you can do.

  11. Prologue - Chapter 22 maps (compiled screen-captures)

Credits: Intelligent Systems, Nintendo, Serenes Forest and Sacred Blaze.

    Great.

I'll make sure to add these to the main post.

This hack is, in one word, amazing.

The writing is out if this world good. I honestly think it is superior to even the most polished and well-known hacks out there, like The Last Promise or Corrupt Theocracy. In addition, the map design is all incredibly unique, and the objectives vary enough to keep it interesting. And even though the sprites aren't on the original game's level; that is a very high bar to reach in the first place. I personally love all the custom portraits, and am very impressed they were accomplished by a single person.

Basically, I'm just blown away and incredibly grateful that you chose to share this with us. Thank you so much!

Ah, well thank you for saying this. I appreciate it.

  12. I'd say use the one with my face and the new robe, though the neck is weird on that one.

    Totally not biased though.

    6202c7ab0644c02e039e00d4cab29b68.png

    Have another face~

    *Runs away*

Nice. Looks like a bit more of a hardened fighter than he did before, that's for sure.

You really are good with faces, btw, I agree.

    And now for more stuff:

    ZgoI86h.png

    • Might end up changing the colours of Ash's robe sometime later so that he looks a bit less "priest-class type" but I think that I am gonna go with this variant of him for now.
    • Legato face edit on Alusq's version from earlier. I also personally just removed the symbol on his armour for now, although I wonder if anyone feels like they can come up with something to put there so that it doesn't look so plain.
    • Edward looking the King of Thieves.
    • Thelma's got some better armour stuff going on and some more colour variance.

    Thoughts?

  13. Yeah, maybe I'll give him a base strength buff then. Looking at it, it's a bit weird that he only just barely edges over Nala in terms of strength on average. (and that's only in his last few levels)

And I'm not seeing what you're saying about the mistake?

There is another one that I've noticed, but I'm reading his DEF as 11.5 and his RES at 10.5 when he's level 20/1. What do you mean, exactly?

  14. 5-hits to kill the Paladins? Are we talking about the hard mode variants of them, because they only have like 45HP on normal mode IIRC.

Anyway, I guess I can do some character rebalancing stuff, although I obviously don't want to change up too much.

For me anyway, I've never really had any major problems using Edward, myself. I could buff his starting strength, I guess.

The no lockpick thing is just an FE8 thing, and I don't think there's anyway to bring that functionality over to FE7.

    R4o3GIA.pngl6ycKPJ.pngwfwHYme.pngRj6a88m.png

I don't believe any of these versions of him got energy rings, so maybe I'm just lucky with RNG?

Either way, he definitely does run out of use offensively in the late game, I'll admit. But then I didn't really intend for him to be great on that front.

If you want a good offensive Edward, he'll probably need a good supporter, like Gemma or Thelma for a lot of crit bonus, or some stat boosters.

  15. Wow, those are some awesome mugs! Alicia looks kind of mannish though.

Eh, that's not really a big deal imo, although I do kind of see what you're saying.

Alicia's wip... it feels like the eyes may be too far apart? (Also, I think her eye my also be a bit low, or her forehead is huge?, ...maybe her entire face is a bit too low not sure which... lol)

But yea, I'm likin' these revamps.

The eye is a little bit lower than before I think. The different angling on her face might also be adding to that a bit, but I don't know.

Anyway, what do people think about the two different versions of Ash, as things are?

I ask this not because I think a certain one is bad myself, but just because I'm not sure which one to go with.

Ash's default portrait has a hood which makes me inclined to go for the one that does myself, but then it's not like that can't be done for the other one anyway.

I do think that Ash looks kind of angry in the first one though, which isn't really him for the most part, but then again that could always be a used as angry/serious expression for Ash or something in game, like FE7 had for the lords.

  16. Happy to see this happening - this is a great project and deserves the best possible work. Since you're revisiting mugs, have you considered making a few new ones so that the maps where the original boss warps away can still have a boss?

That's something to consider, actually. If not that anyway, I may just have a particularly strong enemy, instead of the weak generics that are left.

I don't have asked for the hackers stuff, I have no clue about hacking...

I apologize, I was kinda anguished that the chapter maps (png images, screen-captured),

that I've gathered, were a waste of time, useless.

    E.g. - Chapter 16

    xCDdHhj.png

I use the occasion, to thank You for this hack, for his story and his dialogues.

Oh, now I see what you mean. I did have a gallery of my maps with enemies anyway, but yours is actually much more detailed, with the reinforcements and drops listed.

If you want to make these available, then yeah, go ahead. I could put these up on the top post as a sort of mini-guide, if you want.

  17. A plea to Sacred Blaze:

I was intrigued by the mentions, in the forum, of the difficulty of the first chapters,

so I had played and had made the maps of the chapters.

The story and game-play had captivated me and I've continued...

Alas, at Ch. 22 I've had more than enough of slaughters and, like always,

like many FE and TRS, I left it unfinished.

Can the maps be of some use, can I make them available for somebody?

Are you just asking if I can give you the maps?

    The designs, basically?

  18. Mini-update:

I'm currently working on updating some of the portraits for the characters in the hack.

As a result, a new patch will probably show up sometime in the future, although I can't really say when at this point. Might make some other small changes too, but I don't have any ideas at the moment.

If you're interested, you can monitor the progress (sort of) over in this topic in the Sprites subforum.

    http://serenesforest.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=57726

    /End of shameless self-promotion.

  19. I tried to revamp Legato, but the armor wrecked me when I tried to make it look better so maybe someone can pick up where I left off (just the face, really).

    KwqRLMH.png

There were some stray colors in the portrait, so it now only has 13 colors. I recommend using the extra three to give his under-clothing a color and make the logo on his shoulder pad blend in more. His skin-color eyes are gone because it was tough to tell where the eyes ended and skin began, but the extra colors could also be used to give him orange/brownish eyes like he used to have.

If you like what I did to him, I'll try my hand at one of the player characters next.

Val looks a lot better with her original (grey) eye colors imo. As for Andrei, he's 100% more likely to be used by me on my next playthrough.

Legato looks ten years younger suddenly, lol.

I think it looks quite good though.

Thanks for the hair redesign. Not really sure what the bit at the back was doing before, but it looks better now.

Something might need to be done about his eyes though. Maybe the colour in his eyes should go in the end or maybe or be a some sort of darker colour. Right now, he seems to have lost a little bit of the "evilness" in his eyes.

And yeah, go ahead with another character if you want to.

And yeah, I prefer the original colour in Val's eyes as well, but maybe that's just because I made it that way in the first place.

    b6mnKrt.png

I did a few edits, mostly just palette changes. but some added shading and messing with proportions as well.

Nooo, what happened to Pamela's (top-right) decorated armour?

Nah, I don't really care that much.

These are pretty good. Something about the Matthias (top-left guy) seems a bit off around and above his right eye though. Or maybe it's just me?

I was thinking about getting some entirely new mugs for the two middle guys, but they seem alright now, with the small additions of detail.

Glad you could do something about the hair on Pamela and Katarina (bottom-left). Katarina looks more serious now with the better shaded eyes, which is good as well.

Edited Val's dad. I fixed his shoulder which was being cut by the hackbox, and edited the palette to look more lively.

    vals%20dad_zps15l3fcrs.png

The lighter armour seems to interfere with the part of his hair that's the same colour, I think. Makes it look more like a blue-ish highlight than a little bit of grey in the hair.

But oh crap, I think I'd forgotten after all of this time that he actually gets cut off in the hackbox. Thanks for pointing that out to me.

  20. 8492f8f147faa7a7adddf6d9b647c01a.png

This kid's face bugged me, and you had a few stray colors in there.

Yeah, Ash started off a terrible early splice of mine before being "upgraded" to this and then he was still pretty bad so I threw a hood on him to cover up some of the badness.

This is good though. Actually makes him not look so much like a kid anymore, which he isn't supposed to.

    omg val is hot

    Agreed.

I'm glad that the spriter managed to keep keep my random idea of the high shoulder pad that I did so poorly before as well, lol.

  21. Made a quick edit on Valentine. What do you think?

    Valentine_zpsu15jp7fk.png

I think that the armour (FE8 Syrene, right?) is a little bit too big for her, maybe?

But it's not bad, yeah. I would ask if there's any way you could get rid of the extra strand of hair on her shoulder as well, because it seems a little out of place, but then again, I wouldn't be able to remove it myself if I tried, so I can't really talk.

In other news anyway, someone was kind enough to give me some mugs for Val and Andrei that I'm really digging as of right now.

    gbZL86O.png

(And if you see this, I did just give her original eye colour back to her to see something for myself.)

@Blue Druid. I noticed you gave her red eyes as well. Was that just because of the 16 colour limit or do you think it looks better that way?
