  1. And it appears Totalbiscuit has done his usual take on this sort of thing. Man, so much video game news. How can he hold it all?

Yeah, I'm not watching that video. That guys a complete cock sucker and cares only about himself. Any time anyone ever disagrees with him, even if it's politely, he resorts to name calling and other insults. He's also plainly stated that his viewers mean nothing to him. All in all a total asshat.

Now that I'm finished derailing the topic:

Sony have been enforcing region free policy with their PS3 since the release. People who live in restrictive country like Australia and Germany have never had any problem importing their game that banned in theirs from another country, and up until now I've never seen Sony garnered any controversy because of that. The same also happened with NDS that being region free, if I am not wrong. But again, pbulic image (at least in US I think?) between Sony and Nintendo is really different. Nintendo have much larger underage/children demographic as their audience compared to Sony.

That last one is a big determining factor I'd say. Also importing games is not something that's well known outside of of the gaming community. As desperate as the media is to demonize video games I'm surprized such issues as the ones I previously brought up haven't come to light yet, but it's quite possible that it will.

This article seems to explain the mindset behind Nintendo's region locking.

I guess I can sorta see what Iwata is saying. I mean some games released in Japan are totally unacceptable in the US. Think of those games where the character seems to be very young and yet they make it a dodgy fanservice ordeal. If the game is localized that stuff can be removed, but if it had to be imported that's not an option and it could cause controversy if someone stumbled upon a copy another person bought and made a huge deal about it eventually bringing in the media and causing terrible publicity for Nintendo. The media already wishes to blame the video game industry for everything, there's no way they'd miss that opportunity.

Though I'm not sure if those type of games are even on Nintendo consoles in Japan whereas I know there are some for Sony consoles. This is just an example, there could be other instances where a game may be deemed unacceptable for non-Japanese audiences.

I'm interested to hear possible ways around these type of problems.

  3. I guess it isn't the best example but I'm not really good at pulling examples out of my head. I guess there's another one I'm really irritated by, though.

For all I know while most Avenger fans I hang out with are women, I see Black Widow under fire by a lot of male fans for being "useless" even though she outsmarted a trickster god, has awesome martial arts moves, and figured out how to close the goddamn portal itself. She's also IMO the most logical and level-headed of the team. Sure, she's not as powerful as Thor or Hulk, but she got shit done and a lot of people make that judgement of uselessness based on the fact that she's an attractive woman (and attractive women are only there for eyecandy amirite) and ignore everything she actually did in the movie just because she can't punch a goddamn hole in a building and has boobs. It's sad.

Not to debuff what you're saying, but Loki was pretty easily outsmarted by most of the characters in that movie because of his arrogance. Also that one guy that made the portal told her how to close it so I wouldn't say she did it by herself.

Again not disagreeing with ya, but that was a bad example.

  4. Going months without issueing a public statement and apology is not good PR. Without the assurance that the company is working to resolve the issues these people are only going to grow more and more irritated. That's a stain that you don't want on your brand, especially when the console hasn't been out for very long.

  5. So Ouya was funded by many generous donations from people through Kickstarter. The donations totalled over $8 million, which is way more than was the original goal. Perks were to be given to people who donoted X amount of dollars such as getting the system and controllers before most others. Sadly there seems to be a lot of donars who are not getting the perks that were promissed. And the worst part is that even though this seems to have been going on for a several months now the creators of Ouya have yet to address the issue.

Their facebook page has been swamped with complaints (and douchebags who can't sympathise with others apparently).

The vid I learned about this from:

    Strong Language Warning

Normally I wouldn't be making this topic, but since there's very little news coverage on the subject for whatever reason I thought that this should be made known. Seems kinda shit that they've gone all this time without even addressing the problem.

    Your thoughts?

    Edit: Ouya Kickstarter Page

  6. Really? Not even the british voice acting in a JRPG was interesting for you?

It was novel for the first couple hours, then it started to grate. Espacially that retarded ginger meathead (can't remember his name). But even if I adored the voice acting it doesn't excuse what I considered to be a very bland battle system.

Anyway, to the OP: it's still a nice list.

Edit: If you want really good British voice acting try Dragon Quest VIII.

  7. The main character from Xenoblade.

... and the one character (that is actually somewhat possible) that I don't really want in smash bros. No offense to fans, but I found that game and it's characters to be highly uninteresting.

  8. My favorite villager atm is Rod the pirate mouse. I don't usually get too many crazy requests from the villager (aside from bringing them fruit when there's a fruit tree literally within 5 steps of them). Deli keeps asking for rainbow stags. Those things are worth 10,000 so I always turn him down.

Also I now have Club LOL. So that's cool.

Here's a little list of bugs and fish that will won't be available starting July 1st. If you're working towords filling up your encyclopedia and/or museum you'd better hurry up and catch them or else you'll have to wait quite a while to get them. (Or you could time travel, but that has too many cons for my liking)
