  1. Doug was not pleased that the sky was no longer his domain. The sky was filled with giant lizards ready to rip his face off. Judging from the ground, it seemed they had already done so to the former occupants. Most surprising of all, they also call themselves the Reliants. That was news to Doug; he thought they were all dead. He really hoped Niko wasn't involved in this. He flew down to Serge and co. to set a few things straight. "OK, full disclosure. I don't think we even had wyverns back then, so I don't know who these guys are. ...You didn't piss Niko off before he left, did you?"
  2. Jam felt a little guilty when Shad mentioned getting more supplies. She bought the chocolate for herself, not the entire group. She'd have to make a mental note to keep it hidden so no one else started eating her stash. More importantly, she wasn't sure she had enough gold to pay for food for everyone for however long the trip would take. The dancer didn't want to resort to eating her new clothes. She looked at her small pouch of gold before turning back to Shad. "You think Greta would pay me back for produce?" Jam asked, eyeing the stands of vegetables and fruits. "I mean, we'll need a lot for a bunch of people and our livestock."
  3. "Well, I tried." Doug's attempt to alleviate Serge's panic attack didn't take. Fortunately, his underlings gathered around him rather than fell apart with him. At the very least, Doug was not the center of their ire. With that, the rider took off to continue looking out for that enemy hideout.
  4. Doug was in fact going to fly off and leave Angus to deal with Serge. Yet in his heart, he figured he better try and smooth things over. He came over upon his pegasus to do just that. He was there to witness Serge continue cursing like sailor. The crazed look in his eye reminded Doug of their first meeting in that pub. It made Doug wonder why Niko hired him in the first place. But anywho "Look," Doug said to Serge, "it's not that bad. No one knows who you guys are. There are no original members to recognize. All you got to do is change your group name! Like...I don't know...Serge's Heroes! It's new! No one has past grudges with Serge's Heroes!"
  5. "Dick move, Niko" It appeared Doug would be the one to break the tragic history of the Reliants to Serge and co. He sighed as he began the tale. "Well, it was back when the Reliants were a much bigger organization. There were like dozens of us. I was only on for a month when we took this last job. Some shady organization tried to coax the leader into backing off. Being the Reliants, we took the job anyways. When we got back to base, everyone was dead. Then we were ambushed. Me and Niko got out and made it to Wyke. We met with Lady Adele and...here we are." Sensing that Serge was about to blow his top, Doug casually mounted his steed and prepared to fly off. "So...I'm gonna go scout for this hideout while you're thinking about that. Just wanted to let you know, if you're ever in Deira, might want to...not be the Reliants, in case these people still remember."
  6. Doug scrunched up his face: he knew he stepped in it when Serge started questioning what he was talking about. He knew Niko was keeping their past a secret until things were calm, but he assumed that secret passed to Serge when Niko left. This was awkward. It was made more so when Angus mentioned a previous bout that ended rather poorly. "No, no. Not THAT massacre," Doug said to Angus. "This one happened way before me and Niko met you guys. I mean, I'm sure Niko told everything to Serge before he left." Doug turned to Serge to get confirmation. "You know? He told you what happened in Deira, right?"
  7. The rough terrain had no bearing on Doug as he flew upon his pink pegasus Agathon. He was scouting ahead to see if he could spot something that looked like a bandit hideout. Nothing really came across his line of vision, so the rider descended down towards the others. His old career as a Reliant seemed like a distant memory after his induction into nobility. The responsibilities of running Dougistan were a far cry from his work with Niko, but that didn't mean he couldn't pass on some sage advice. Doug landed near Larissa, one of the only two recruits he recognized. Time to play catch up. "Hey Larissa," Doug greeted, "how's the merc life treating you? It's been really crazy, what with Niko leaving, me becoming a ruler, and Serge taking over. I'm surprised he took the job. He even kept the name! That was pretty ballsy, what with the massacre and all..."
  8. "What? We're going to a foreign land. They may have never heard of chocolate. For all we know, all they have are...eels. Ew. Best to stock up now." Jam shuddered at the thought of a tray of slimy eels wriggling across a plate as she finished paying for the chocolate. The dancer led the way into a much busier side of town. It was a gathering of restaurants and pubs, filled with plenty of sailors from the nearby docks. With the abundance of people came a seemingly equal number of soldiers, some perhaps sneaking a drink before going back to duty. Though it probably wasn't a good idea to hang around in the area, there was a butcher close by. The racks of hanging meat lined the stall like curtains. Very gross curtains. "Hey Eva. Still need something for Sasha?"
  9. Doug took a break from his doodles to watch the drama unfold. The wizard had objected to Cass' request. Doug leaned in towards Angus to share the entertainment. "Dude, I think Cass is going to beat up the wizard," Doug whispered. Things got more heated when Emmet sided against Cass as well. "Oh, Cass is going to beat up Emmet and the wizard! Also, I think Emmet likes the wizard." The whispers continued up until Cass retreated to a nearby wall. Doug wished all meetings were this exciting. "Damn," Doug added before returning to his notes, having gotten his hopes up.
  10. Doug was hoping to gather ideas for Castle Dougistan from their latest conquest. Sadly, the fortress was empty. Doug had joined the others in listening to the wizard. Also, they had a wizard now! All grand tales often had a wise wizard showing the heroes the way. With Doug right in the middle of it all, this could only mean good things for the legacy of Dougistan. The wizard spoke of three separate objectives. Doug wasn't sure what all of them entailed, though rescuing the captain would haved seemed most important if they ever intended on leaving this country alive. Yet others were preparing to split. The archer Emmet was interested in the wizard's path, while Cass wanted to follow Adele, presumably for entirely different reasons. Doug wanted to hear more details, so he stayed silent while the wizard explained. All the while, Doug was jotting down more Dougistan ideas. [spoiler=Doug's Notes on Dougistan] 1. Castle Dougistan: Three floors, public tours, secret room for Doug! 2. Need theme song: find bard 3. Mascot? Maybe pink pegasus character. Family friendly! 3b. Related: Legendary woman warrior: Alotta Titz. Hypnotic (topless) fighting style. Make giant statue in center of town. Family friendly??? The rest of the page consisted of sketched for the aforementioned statue, all of which were too crude to reproduce here.
  11. Jam was having trouble answering Eva, for her mouth was filled with samples of both varieties. She had to stop herself from eating the entire sampler, much of which was smeared across her mouth. The dancer took a napkin to clean herself off before making her decision. "Definitely chocolate," she answered, looking over selection, "but nothing too fancy. And something I can't finish off before we leave town. So..." Jam grabbed what appeared to be two giant bricks. Both were made entirely of milk chocolate, yet felt like actual bricks. Fortunately Jam didn't have to worry about weight: Shad had kindly volunteered to carry all their things! "Thanks again Shad," Jam smiled as she placed the bricks onto the ever-growing pile of things Shad was carrying. She went back to the chocolatier to pay before she was tempted by more treats.
  12. "Hey guys," Jam interrupted from her quiet enjoyment of the banter. "We should probably get moving. Plenty more to see. That, and I think the shopkeeper is looking at us funny." With that, Jam was walking out of the clothing stall. She made a beeline for the candy shop, now that the lines had died down. This was an actual building, yet it remained filled with a rainbow of colors despite the crowd from earlier. The dancer was looking upon giant bricks of chocolate when the chocolatier approached her. He adjusted his chef hat and approached the potential customer. "Sweets for the sweetie?" he asked Jam, his tone sounding as though he had practiced the line many times that day. "Aww," Jam still found the sentiment sweet, just like the offerings before her. "You know, I can't decide. I'll be away for quite some time; who knows how long before I come across a place like this again." "Well, I do have samples." Jam's eyes widened as the man revealed a massive tray of chocolates and candies ready for the taking. With dozens of flavors to choose from, she wouldn't have to worry about lunch that day.
  13. After a rough session of healing with Cass (Doug's leg still smarted over her admonishments), Doug returned to the enemy to deliver his vengeance for the prior injustice. Fortunately, Claire was able to wrap up his vengeance before he got too bloody again. With the leader down, everyone was gathering about to discuss the next move or talk to their new friends. Meanwhile, Doug proceeded to fly to the top of the enemy castle. If there was already a flag up there, he knocked it down. In its place, the dress-flag of Dougistan was raised for the new age of rule. "Behold, Dougistan's first foreign conquest!"
  14. Would it be alright if I get the shop group moving? Sorry I haven't posted in a while.
  15. Doug's victory over the ballistician proved short-lived; it was an ambush. He had failed to see the javelin jettisoned from the castle and into his side. Luckily, Doug wasn't impaled, but he certainly needed a breather. As the rider lowered to the ground, a bandit took the opportunity to finish of the duke. The axe tore into Doug's back; if it weren't for a mysterious healing, that would have been the end of his legacy. Yet Doug stood back up, much to his enemy's surprise. "If you strike at the Duke of Dougistan, you'd better finish. DOUGISTAN DOUBLE!!!" Doug followed up with an attack, twirling his lance into the bandit's face. One strike hit one side, another hit his left. The bandit was down. Claiming victory yet losing lots of blood, Doug got back on his pegasus and headed north to regroup., completely forgetting about Claire. He made a beeline for Cass, but really wasn't in a state of mind to ask for healing. "DOUGISTANDS!" he shouted in her face, which roughly translated to "I've lost too much blood to form a coherent thought. Please help." Fortunately, that was specific enough to warrant a healing. Doug would live to fight another day.
  16. Like a good leader, Doug had to leave his Lady Claire and return to war. Before the ballista operator could play another round of "How Many Shots Can Fit Into Angus", the rider swooped over hills to strike. The flag of his people would be planted into his sternum! "You shall be pierced by the leader of Dougistan! The hills cry out for it!" Doug moves to 10,8. Attack Ballista with Overflag.
  17. Doug wasn't about to let a young maiden lay upon the ground alone. The rider left his steed to recover while he walked over to Claire. "Here," Doug began as he gave her a hand to help her up. "Probably, should find that ballista before it gets back up and running." He figured not mentioning the crazy trip here would make up for his part in the fiasco.
  18. "Thanks, Angelica," Jam replied, beaming at the positive attention she was getting from her friends. "But look at Eva! She's practically a native." She was surprised at Angelica's sudden appearance, but not as much as Shad's. Was he here to help carry their things? That was so nice of him! "Oh, Shad, you don't mind carrying a little more? Can you hold onto my things while I pay? OK thanks!" Jam didn't even bother to wait for a reply before handing him her old clothes, running off to pay for her new outfit. Meanwhile, the shopkeeper looked over Eva and was satisfied. Compared to Jam's "Kigen-inspired" style, at least the tall one was trying to fit in. "Ah, the yukata suits you," the shopkeeper said to Eva. "You'll have no problem fitting in." After quoting a reasonable price, gold was (presumably) exchanged. The shopkeeper's attention was then drawn to Jam. "Oh child," she sighed, "Just...don't walk the streets alone."
  19. "Will do- wait, TOO LOW!" Doug was about to land to pick up Claire when Angus threw her straight into him. She came too low for Doug to catch in his arms. Rather, Claire slammed right into the pegasus's side. While Doug had managed to grab Claire's arm in time, the pegasus was thoroughly pissed off. Doug could not pull Claire up before the pegasus zoomed off in a frantic panic. "No Agathon, no!" The trip was filled with twists at high speeds. All the while Agathon was biting at Claire's clothes, determined to bite her off of him. Doug struggled to keep gripping Claire's arm while controlling the pegasus, resulting in a very lopsided ride. All the while, they were flying low, Claire's body narrowly missing some of their fellow soldiers along the way. After one particularly sharp turn, Doug lost his grip, sending poor Claire straight into the sun-soaked beach below. Fortunately, they were flying low, so permanent injury was unlikely. Well, for Claire at least. Doug finally managed to stop Agathon. The pegasus began heaving: apparently, motion sickness was a thing for pegasi. The irder looked over, happy to see that they didn't kill off the mage. "To be fair, this was not entirely my fault." Doug to (12,7), Drop Claire to (12,8)
  20. "Almost done, I'll be right there," Jam replied to Eva. She was still getting her new outfit just right. She left the stall with her new look, much to the chagrin of the shopkeeper. Jam was wearing a long sleeve jacket similar to the kimino, though not nearly as complicated. It folded over itself to keep closed, similar to the dresses she was looking at before. She couldn't find any floral patterns for the jacket; white was the only color available that wasn't terribly drab. A matching undershirt kept the rough material of the jacket from bothering her. Jam paired the Kigen-style top with a pair of black leggings and matching leather slippers. Jam was happy with the compromises in style. The shopkeeper was not. "What? This is not what a lady of Kigen would wear! What about the kimono? And where is your obi?" "My what?" "...Your belt," the shopkeeper sighed. "Oh, I'm gonna use this scarf my friend Erion gave me," Jam happily replied. She proceeded to wrap the scarf around her waist, adjusting it to an acceptable length. After attaching her sword scabbard to the "belt" and slipping her tome into her jacket, the dancer felt her look was complete. "And that uwagi is for men!" "Well that would explain why I couldn't find any flower patterns..." The shopkeeper buried her face into her hands. Jam had butchered thousands of years of tradition with her fusion of styles.
  21. "Oh my..." The shopkeeper was looking over Eva. It wasn't so much height as build. She was clearly a warrior. In her experience, the shopkeeper found warriors to be less accepting of traditional feminine garb. Still, if Eva was interested in Kigenese garb, she'd start there. "If you're interested in something more casual, I also carry yukata. They're made of lightweight material, perfect for the coming summer. Here, this one should be in your size." The shopkeeper pulled out a pink yukata covered in a pink flower pattern. The outfit resembled a robe and came with a giant sash belt and a pair of wooden sandals. While the outfit allowed for walking, running would be difficult. Riding any sort of mount would be almost impossible without looking indecent. "Yes, you will look like one of the residents in Kigen with this outfit. Pink is a very popular color among young women. You are fortunate that I have one left." In reality, she didn't get many tall women; the outfit was merely left over. Meanwhile, Jam slipped away and started gathering randoms articles of clothing around the stall. While she wanted to have Kigen look, the dancer would put in her own style to suit her needs. She disappeared into a changing booth in the back.
  22. Doug stuck around as he watched Angus get into ballista range. If Angus dies, do I get his land? Doug moves to 17,5
  23. "Well then, I'm going to look for clothes," Jam proposed. "I wanna look the part in Kigen. Maybe we'll find a butcher shop along the way." As the three walked further into the city, the number of soldiers stayed steady. That is, it remained unusually high. None of them gave the group a second look, so their passage went unhindered. Jam was glad for this, as she could better enjoy the sights around town. They passed a candy store, but the line inside was too long. Wyverns probably didn't enjoy chocolate very much anyways. Jam soon saw a vendor selling all sorts of outfits and made a beeline to the seller. The large stall, apparently named "Abroad Look", had a variety of dresses and outfits. They were organized by country of origin, so it was easy to find Kigen styles. The owner, an older woman of Kigen descent, approached Jam to assist. "Ah, what can I help you with, child?" the woman asked. "Well, I plan on being in Kigen for a bit, so I'm looking for something to help me blend in." "Then I recommend browsing our selection of kimonos. Please, have a look." Jam was led to a variety of long dresses in different colors. She wasn't fond of many of them: most would wrap too tightly around her, restricting her movement. As a dancer and occasional fighter, none of these dresses would do. "Uh...do you have anything less...tight. I dance for a living, so I would like something that doesn't restrict movement." "Mmm..." The woman said, though her tone was disapproving. She wasn't angry, but concerned. "I've seen dancers around Ursium. They would not be approved of in Kigen. Such dances would be deemed too racy. Some would consider such dancers as tricksters, temptresses trying to lure men away from decent families to bear inferior children and ruin the next generation of warriors." "But I don't want to have anyone's children! I'm just looking for something for something I can at least walk in." "...There might be a few things here, but keep the skirts at the ankle. Kigen is a very conservative society in such matters." Jam sighed. This was going to be a lot harder than she thought.
  24. I glanced through the docs a bit. If this goes through, I'll convert Jam to Tactician and just flavor the names of her skills. Not sure what to do with weapons; Tacticians can't use light magic, but they can use swords. I'll see how her stats add up and plan accordingly. Will there be some sort of story element to explain the changes? Regarding the current system: If the next battle is our last in the current system, should we forget about saving up points and spend them now? I assume everything is reset once the new system goes through.
  25. I'd have to play with it before making any final judgements. It took me a while to get used to the current system >_>.
